Using color corrector on only part of the frame

Im running FCP 5.0.4 and need some help color correcting something. I am editing footage that someone shot and the colors are completly unbalanced in the frame. Meaning the left side of the frame is red, making the person look like a cherry, whereas the right side of the frame is fine (well, good enough I should say). Nothing that I know how to do helps but I am not the worlds most knowledgeable when it comes to using all of the effects that FCP has to offer. I have used the Color Corrector 3-way utilizing the dropper in the whites to white balance the clip, but how do I only edit the left side to get the red out?
Any info would help thanks.

There are several "proper" ways you could do this, but if the scene is split as drastically as you say, you might get away with this little cheat...
Place the clip on V1 Copy the clip and place the copy on V2, above the first clip.
Double click the top clip and open the Motion tab.
Crop the clip so that only the side you want to CC is showing.
Add the CC filter to the top clip and adjust it as you like.
Go back to the Crop adjuster in the motion tab and add some feather to soften the divide between the two clips.
If that won't work then you have to start playing with the CC filter and learning how to use the "limit effect" controls. Works well, but can be time consuming if you are not that familiar with CC.

Display only part of the STRING field, but search ALL field

Hi all,
I have a field VARCHAR2(4000) that holds a lot of text.
When I make a report in APEX, it shows in each row, ALL text, so the report is very "ugly".
I want to limit the display of that column for only the first 60 characters.
I tried to use the SUBSTR function, that worked, but the search option will search for the text only in that 60 lenght characters, and will now search in the rest (not displayed) part of the field.
Is there a way to do this full search and display only part of the field?

You can have the 'substring' column displayed to the user, but have another column which shows the full text lets say it has an ALIAS of "*SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT*" in the report definition(and is among the displayed columns).
You can hide the large text column(SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT) using JS as
$('th[id="SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT"],TD[headers^="SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT"]').hide()
Note: ^= syntax used to match data column even when break formatting used
You can make sure that the column stays hidden even after an IR filter or refresh by binding it to the refresh event of the IR by
$('#apexir_WORKSHEET_REGION').bind('apexafterrefresh', function(){
$('th[id="SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT"],TD[headers^="SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT"]').hide()
change the string "SEARCH_LARGE_TEXT" with your column's alias

Quality suffering, (looking pixely), after using Color Corrector in FCE?

I need some help and I'm sure someone here has the answer I'm looking for! I am editing a short film with FCE4. I have converted my original footage, (shot with an EOS 550D at 720p), using MPEG Streamclip to Apple Intermediate Codec for importation and editing. On a few clips, I have had to do some color correcting, (using the "Color Corrector" filter). Unfortunately, these clips lose their sharpness afterwards and look somewhat "pixely". What am I doing wrong?
The above screen shot is after Color Corrector, (although it is diffucult to see my problem in this small pic). The edges become rough and unsharp, which is most evident in the book on the left.
The following pic is WITHOUT Color Corrector.
What can I do to resolve this????

MtD: BINGO! I had the Render Settings at 50%, which I feel is sort of a beginner's mistake. However, I have to say, I have used color corrector before and not experienced this problem. I wonder if the settings somehow changed themselves with some update? Curious. Anyways, I changed it, re-rendered, and now it looks great. Thanks again.
To anyone else with the same problem, go to "Sequence" and then "Settings" to change the Render Settings to 100%
And now I am just curious: why would you ever want to set your Render Settings to LESS than 100%?

sign into the App Store with your own AppleID

Exporting only part of the Sequence

I do not have any in and out points on my sequence, but when I export, only part of the sequence exports. I have chosen numerous encoding presets, tried placing in and out points at the beginning and end, but it still does not work.

I've tried exporting through DV NTSC and DVCPRO720p60.
Say if I had a 10 minute sequence, then it'd only export 3/4th of it.

Syncing only part of the playlists

Hi,
Is it possible to sync only part of the playlists? It seems that if I remove some of the songs from my hard drives, iTunes removes the files from my iPod as well. For example, in my iPod I have a playlist called ABC that contains a song DEF and GHI. If my hard drive no longer has these songs and the playlist's removed in PLAYLISTS, playlist ABC and the songs in my iPod will be deleted after I do a sync. How do I keep the songs in my iPod when they're no longer in my hard drive?

If I select just one of the many playlists I want to update, it seems to update just that playlist and remove everything else.
iTunes won't remove anything from the iPod if you are Manually managing your music.
To remove songs from the iPod, YOU have to select the songs and delete them yourself.
Just like if you want any songs on the iPod, YOU have to select them and drag them to the iPod.
So it doesn't do incremental synchronizing?
If you are manually managing your music on the iPod, it doesn't do ANY syncing.

Thunderbolt connection to projector doesnt work: only part of the screen is projected. Solution??

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.
If you've gone through ALL the troubleshooting steps and you're still having the problem, then you most likely have a hardware issue and will need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

How can I highlight part of the frame and track it as it moves around in Final Cut Studio?

I'd like to highlight part of the frame by reducing the brightness of the surroundings. My idea was to duplicate the layer, reduce the opacity of the lower layer to 80% and crop the top layer to the area I want. Problem is this, how can I then follow the area of interest as it moves around the frame without laboriously keyframing and adjusting the cropped area every frame. Moving the cropped layer moves the content so that's no good. I definitely have the wrong approach here ... struggling ...

Regio blur (which I have and love btw) won't help me as I want everything sharp. I thought of using a box wipe transition the san duration as the clip with a cut in the middle to set the effect on and having it at 20% for example throughout and keyframing the center postion as required. Two problems with that, can't find a simple box wipe in effects (only centere wipe) and when I try it with other unsuitable wipes the size of the wipe changes when I adjust its centre position despite having the start and finish at the same percentage ... still working this one!

Removing light reflex in part of the frame of video

Hi
I need to remove some light reflex in my video (sample picture below).
I cannot open the AVI / MOV files in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. Is there a chance to make this correction (limited to the small part of the image) using Adobe Premiere Elements 10 or Adobe Premiere Pro CS6?
How should I do it? These are some 3 frames.

Was the camera on a tripod?
If so, you can easily mask out that part of the frame and use the Levels effect to cut the glare..
Because of the horizontal portion, you probably need to use the 16 point garbage matte. There are actually 9 points so the 8 point mask won't do the job as well. You could use a track matte, but it won't allow you to animate it as easily if it is necessary.
I put the image on track 1 and a copy on track 2. I applied the garbage matte effect and the levels effect to track two.
If the camera was not on a tripod, you can animate the matte but it is going to take a lot longer.
I created my matte with both images showing, but if I poke out the eye on track one this is what I see:
Did I understand it correctly? Is this what you wanted to do? I didn't make the window frame too dark. You can still see some highlights, which is as it should be, I think.

How to copy only part of the music media folder and library to another Mac

I run iTunes in Mac OS. The iTunes music media folder is now located in an external HD because it´s quite large (2T). The problem is that I´got a second Mac and I´d like to copy -in this second Mac, only part of my music using only its internal HD (300 Mb) . How can I do this copy while preserving art and play-lists?

Grep to replace only part of the found text

I'm using ^.+~> to search the begging of a paragraph up to an EN space, but is it possible with GREP to format just PART of the string found?
There are roman numerals that precede a period and an EN space and I want to apply formatting to just the roman numerals, leaving the period and EN space alone.
I did found one post that mentions using "some" but I'm not familiar enough with GREP to know how it works.
Can anyone commend a good source for GREP coding?

Try this:
^(.+)(?=\.~>)
I just changed your original code to use the period and en-space as a positive lookahead -- it'll only find characters at the beginning of the line if they're followed by a period and an en-space, but will not include them as part of the found text.
If these items all have the same paragraph style applied to them and that style isn't used anywhere that you wouldn't want the formatting, I'd also consider setting this up as a GREP style. You could also do it as a nested style applying your character style up to (.~>). (Don't include the parantheses - I was just trying to make it clear what the expression to use is.)

How do I use cookies to control which part of the timeline to play from?

I have created an animation with Adobe Edge. My site uses Concrete5 and I am pulling in the Edge content into an IFRAME on my home page (there my be a better way to do this and I'm open to suggestions). I want the animation to play from the start when someone first visits the site, but if during their browser session they navigate back to the home page, I want the animation to only play a shorter segment of frames near the end.
My question is, how do I use cookies to acheive this? I'm new to javascript/jquery.
I've included the following code on compositionReady, (found in another post on this forum) but don't have a clue how to continue...

Remember that JS works just fine within Animate, so on your compositionReady, you can read your cookie and then set the play based on that. You should probably uncheck the autoplay for your Stage and control the play of your Stage from the compositionReady.

With 2 devices, how do I sync only part of the library on one device? That is, sync only music and not the podcasts.

Trying to sync part of a library on one device and all of the library on another. Not finding any options to select only parts of a library to be sync'ed. Any help appreciated.

In ipod menu in iTunes, tick the "manually manage music and videos" then select the items that you want to sync. Cheers!

ITunes syncing only part of the song to this particular iPod?

I'm trying to sync a long mp3 (approx 16 megs and 34 minutes in length) to my iPod video, but iTunes only syncs about 7 minutes of the recording, then repeats that same seven minutes over and over again until it reaches the length of the original mp3. I've tried resyncing the piece, rebooting my iPod, and changing the mp3 so it reloads it to the iPod differently and nothing works. The mp3 plays fine in iTunes and on my iPod Touch, but I really need it on my older iPod, too. I'm using iTunes 9.0.1.8 and the iPod has the most up-to-date firmware that I know of for it loaded on it. Any help would be appreciated.

when you play the song on the ipod, have you tried using the jump to option to jump past the point where the song starts repeating?
Have you tried converting the file into another format? ie right click on song in itunes, chose convert to ACC.
have you tried restoring the ipod? warning this dose delete every thing off the ipod.
