Using colorchecker for camera profile

Created photo then used file menue, export preset, xrite.  It worked but I never got a change to select a name.  It came up as "profile". What am I missing.  Found the profiles but my camera  Cannon Rebel 4ti is not listed.  Is there an easy way to change or delete these profiles?

This may help. Don't forget to also calibrate your WB with the new profile using the gray patch next to the 100% white patch. I save this as a new Develop preset with only 'White Balance' and 'Calibration' (Camera DNG profile) checked. I found this necessary as the WB was different when using the LR WB presets.
Be careful when renaming camera profiles. Any images already using the profile will revert back to 'Adobe Standard' since it no longer sees the profile with the "old name." Try to use something descriptive like '600D CCPP Sunny.' This will help identify them if you decide to use the Adobe DNG Profile Editor for creating or modifying camera profiles.

  • Do ColorChecker Passport camera profiles move with the image?

Hi. I work in an office where 3 of us process DNGs into psd's. When using a colorchecker passport-made camera profile on User 1's mac, we then open the image on User 2's mac. If we look at the DNG in Camera RAW on User 2's mac, the camera profile User 1 chose is no longer listed in the camera calibration tab. Is this a problem? Does the info still hold in the DNG for User 2? Is the only solution to for User 2 to copy the profiles from User 1? Thanks, in advance, for your help!
    -Bret

Look in the Camera RAW preferences, and see if you have Save to XMP or Save to Camera RAW Database set for where to store settings, and also whether you have Update JPG Preview enabled or not for the DNGs in question on User1’s computer.  I don’t know if having both of these enabled would help store the profile for use on User2’s computer or not.

  • Time frame for Camera Profile Beta?

What might be Adobe's thinking in terms of releasing a final version of the new Camera Profiles? Not as idle a question as it might seem. It sounds like many LR users have added a new profile as an automatic Import choice; and as the weeks go by, significant numbers of photos must have been given one of these excellent developments as a starting point for further tweaking.
As the profiles are in public beta, and Adobe Labs state they want user import before finalizing the release; it is germane to ask to what degree does Adobe plan - or indeed need to plan - to provide compatibility between a series of profiles that might be subject to further modification, and those applied during the interim (beta) period? And also how long that interim period is likely to last?

The beta profiles will never just disappear. When we do release the final profiles, they will be installed such that both profiles appear in the calibration popup. The beta profiles will only go away if you manually delete them.
If the user choses to manually delete the beta profiles, Camera Raw/Lightroom will automatically switch any previously adjusted images using the beta profiles to the final profiles with the same base name.

  • Point registration using cpd for camera calibration

    Hi,
I do not know whether or not I could use Point Set Registration: Coherent Point Drift (CPD) for correcting the error of my 3d positioning using an overhead camera.
I have already done the intrinstic and extrinsic camera calibration but I still have errors between the measuremed position of my tracking object and it's true location. ( I track a board with 4 blobs which should give me the x,y,z of the tracking board)
I would like to find the mapping between my measurements and true positions for those measurements which I can then use for new points to decrease the positioning error.
I have been playing around in matlab with the cpd code here https://sites.google.com/site/myronenko/research/cpd
I can find the transform but I dont know how to use it for new data points. It seems like the transformation matrice is a set of weights for each data point that it has been given. I added new points to the Y set and I get a new position for those points which seems to be ok but I really have no idea how the method deals with the unseen points or how the transformation can be used for your new data.
Thanks a lot for your help

    Hi zeinab.t,
I am not quite sure what you exactly want to know.
From your explanations, I think to root issue is a not correct calibration of the vision system. To go a bit deeper:
Calibration is used most frequently for stereo vision systems to calibrate two camera to get a correct 3D image in the acquisition. You wrote, that you are using only one camera. So how do you calibrate the camera? Which functions do you use? How is your vision application setup? A small draft may be helpful. Waht software do you use?
About the tool you used in the link, I can not say anything, since I do not know, how this works in the background.
I think we should keep our eyes to the root cause problem, so you do not need any transformation things that could potentially bring errors into the measurements.
    Best regards,
    Melanie

  • My Procedure for Camera Profile Betas (1&2) & Presets

I went ahead and installed the Beta 2 profiles without deleting Beta 1. I had presets called:
    1. Adobe standard
    2. Canon standard
    3. Landscape, etc
    4. all the others
The preset folder name is appropriately: Profile
I just updated the Beta 1 presets with the Beta 2 presets by right-clicking the original preset and selecting update with current settings. The only current setting I had selected was camera calibration with the Beta needed for the preset.
Now, when I select a preset the new Beta 2 presets are used. I still have available the Beta 1 presets by going to the camera calibration panel.
Hope this helps because I've seen a lot of questions about deleting the old beta 1 etc.

There was no need to install the beta profiles as LR 2.7 comes with its own set of final profiles, so you could get rid of the beta versions.
If you're on a Mac they're located at Library > Application Support > Adobe > CameraRaw > CameraProfiles
In there you should only have two folders labelled "Adobe Standard" and "Camera".
LR automatically recognizes your camera, so all the choices you see in the drop-down menu only apply to that particular model. Besides the Adobe Standard profile you will find other choices that resemble the camera manufacturers' rendering styles for certain camera models. It looks though as if the E-520 is not supported, so you might only see ACR x.x.

  • IMovie locks/crashes when using firewire for camera and disk

I've been archiving all my old movies from my Mini-DV camera. My setup is as follows: Mac OSX 10.5.6 and iLive '09 (latest updates), Intel Mac Mini (2008 version), MiniStack external Sata drive, and Canon ZR-60 (firewire). I have the camera hooked into the external drive's firewire cascade port. Typically, this is what happens:
I auto-import my tape and when the tape hits the end, iMovie hangs instead of re-winding the tape and stabilizing the media. Unplugging the camera from the FW bus usually solves the problem when the stuck "updating thumbnails" progress bar appears.
Last night, I tried manual import and got a different result. At random times in the import, iMovie simply crashed and created a problem report for Apple. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Will I ever be able to use more than 1 device at one time on my FW bus reliably?

iMovie seemed to work correctly once I had the Cannon ZR60 still daisy-chained off the FW external drive but stored the movie events to the internal SATA drive. After stabilization, I quit iMovie and then manually moved the events to the external drive. This is kind of a pain but better than discovering that my import failed at random times.

  • "Matrix" is only Camera Profile for 7D in update?

    I am using PSE8 and a Canon 7D on Windows 7.
In the original ACR my drop down only offered "Beta" for Camera Profile.
I downloaded 6.2 today which I believe is the newest update for PSE8 and the only option for Camera Profile is "Matrix".
What must I do to get Camera Neutral, Camera Standard, etc?
    Thank you!

For Elements v8? Never...Camera Raw 6.2 is the last version of ACR that will work. You'll need Elements v9 to update ACR further.
But as has been pointed out above, the free DNG converter version 6.4.1 (which is not tied to a Photoshop or Elements version because it's a stand alone app) can install additional DNG Profiles as part of the installer...
The DNG Converter can be used to convert raw files to DNG for cameras that are not supported by previous versions of Camera Raw.

  • "Embedded" camera profile for .dng file?

Why does Lightroom 5 show "embedded" as an option for camera profile for .dng files created by my pentax k-30?  I thought that "embedded" profiles did not apply to .dng files?

A JPG can contain color profile data not just a reference tag containing the name, although other Google results indicate that the APP2 segment is only has 65533 bytes of data and if the profile is too large for that then it is either chunked somehow or written into an XMP segment:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/imageio/metadata/doc-files/jpeg_metadata.ht ml#color
“If the ColorSpace of the image is based on a non-standard ICC Profile, then that profile is embedded in an APP2 marker segment. If the ColorSpace is not based on a non-standard ICC Profile, but an app2ICC node appears in the metadata, then an APP2 marker segment is written with the appropriate standard profile. Note that the profile must specify an RGB color space, as the file must be JFIF compliant.”
EXIFtool can extract and embed a profile:

  • Histogram inconsistencies with Camera profiles - Camera Raw

    Hi,
I've been going nuts with this issue for a year now since Adobe released the camera profiles for Camera Raw. Something tells me this shouldn't be happening.
Well exposed pictures taken with the D300 show an inconsistent histogram in camera raw when using the Adobe camera profiles for the D300.
This is a shame because I prefer the colour rendering of the camera profiles to that of the adobe standard profile.
    This is the problem:
With the D300 I get a correct histogram in Camera Raw only if I choose the ACR 4.4 or the Adobe Standard profile. By correct I mean with black and white points filled to the edge of the histogram.
If I choose the camera neutral, standard, portrait or vivid suddenly there's an empty area in the histogram's blacks. Effectively the black point has been shifted quite a bit and I need to push up the slider for blacks up to 30 or so to get the black point back to the right place. While with Adobe standard the blacks are correct at 0 or so. Check out the pics here below.
Is this normal behaviour, or is there something wrong in my settings?

Nice pic of brain Bill. Still, I would   take it without any harsh light and rather use longer exposure with  tripod. You can see some sort of light source in left bottom part of  brain. I assume it was a flash gun or above by lamp. Then you may get  much better result ;-)
Thanks. The shot was taken using the Nikon R1C1 closeup flash unit using the diffusers to help eliminate glare. With such specular sources, one must adjust the light sources carefully to avoid glare, but the only sure way to eliminate the glare is to use crossed polarizing filters. Still, the subject is short scale and one must set the white and black points.
Now, to discuss your posted shots. If anything, your posts confirm my initial assertion, since you are correcting post processing and not by changing exposure in the camera. The corrected images are from the same raw expsosures with postprocessing. By the way, if you post your screen shots as PNG, you will eliminate the artifacts around the text.
I put some links of  images to explain my point since we still talk about something else.  (cannot insert pics via adobe).
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn.jpg
Brilliant example of screwed up "I have  been there" photography. Exposed not very well and at worst light  possible. Must go there once again and fix my incompetence.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn2.jpg
Cairngorn is short scale because of atmospheric haze. There is no way to correct that with in camera exposure, but you could have exposed more to the right. Nonetheless, you have captured the whole dynamic range of the scene and exposing to the right would only improve the signal:noise. You had to use the exposure and black slider to set the white and black points, which only confirms what I said in my previious posts.
somehow "fixed" previous image. just for  fun and learn PS CS4.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad.jpg
overexposed image at first glance by  untrained eye.
Hrad is a high dynamic range scene with blown highlights. Your use of the exposure control to bring down the highlights darkens the rest of the image to an undesirable degree. It would have been better to use recovery to tame the highlights. A better approach might be to deveolp for the highlights and shadows separtely and merge the results as shown below. Again the correction is in postprocessing. There would be no way to do that with a camera exposure. The use of +1EV in ACR in HRAD3 only worsens the highlight clipping.
    http://imagingpro.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/expanding-the-dynamic-range-of-a-single-raw-fil e/
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad2.jpg
same image with 1EV extra without of any  detail loss. miracle of digital sensors.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad3.jpg
final image. it is just for web, so no  bother about burned sky...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka.jpg
again, overexposed image at first glance  by  untrained eye. we don't care about clipped shell in the left middle  of image. it is not main interest of pic...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka2.jpg
..and we again get 0.50EV extra which  corrects clipping.
I don't see any evidence of overexposure. The highlights are well short of clipping and the shot is grossly underexposed--not exposed sufficiently to the right. Nonetheless, the full dynamic range of the short scale scene has been captured and the shadows are well above clipping.
In case some will wonder  about weird setting of ACR. It is just for web and I still don't know  all tricks of PS. Furthermore, I prefer to spend time in nature rather  than in front of computer.
The settings of ACR are indeed wierd. Thomas Knoll recommends setting the highlights with the expsoure slider and the midtones with brightness. An alternative way of doing this, introduced with Lightroom, would be to set the midtones with exposure and control the highlights with recovery. A black point setting would likely be required as well. Again, no way to do that with an in camera expsoure, validating my previous assertion.

  • Specific camera profile in camera raw

I’ve just started using Lightroom 5 & Photoshop CC in Creative Cloud and understood that there would be a specific profile for my Panasonic GH3 in Camera Raw, that is I expected the programme to suggest default adjustments specifically tuned to the characteristics of my camera. I can’t find this anywhere in the programmes, indeed the only reference to my camera/lens combination is in the metadata and camera Raw seems to work on an Adobe default.
    Am I missing something?
    Jeff Hodgson

What profile options you have depends on how many profile Adobe ships for camera and how many profiles you save for you camera. The name may seem the same for other models but the are for a particular Camera model. The The Pull-Down profile menu jsy does not display the camera model.  If you look in the folder Adobe stores the Camera Profiles you will get an Idea of how many profiles are on your system. I'm on Windows the root folder for Camera profiles is "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles" It has two sub folders "Adobe Standard" and "Camera" in "Adobe Standard" adobe stores all its standard profile for all the cameras it has profile for.  The  "Camera"  has sub folders for each model camera and those folders may have several profiles for the camera model.

  • Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor beta 2 now available

    Hi everyone,
Beta 2 of the camera profiles and DNG Profile Editor are now available. Please visit here and enjoy:
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles
I hope to have more detailed release notes/changes for you soon. You are welcome to ask questions, but please note that it may take a while for me to respond.
    Eric

    Eric,
I followed very carefully your instructions for installing the new beta2 profiles and deleting the beta1 profiles, but have the same problems as many others. I'd like to provide a bit more information. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and have installed Photoshop CS4, updated with ACR5.1 and Lightroom 2.1 final release. As others have described, the default for all of my images was set to one of the Camera profiles (Canon faithful beta1), but now the profile name in Lightroom is blank. I tried looking at the other profiles and it does indeed appear that the beta2 profile is being used, but if I then reset the image it now shows ACR4.4, whereas the image had been imported with the camera profile as default. Also, if I open an image in ACR5.1 that was specified to use the same camera profile, it now shows ACR4.4 and it is not using the beta2 profile of what I had been using, I can see this by selecting the other profiles. Going back to Lightoom, I guess I could select all my images and select the Canon faithful beta2 profile, but then the mark shows up bottom right of the image showing that they have all been edited/modified, is there anyway to get all my images using the profile I was using but the beta2 version, without this happening and how about new imports?
    Thanks, David.

There was a change to the behavior of LR4.4 and ACR 7.4 to look for camera profiles only in the user level location not the root level. What OS are you on?

  • Camera profiles with .tiff files

I have a camera not (really) supported directly by LR - so i use .tiff files created by the camera bundled software.
This works fine, and i have earlier had help from this forum regarding lens-profiles using .tiff files, with great success.
Now i would like to be able to use my own camera profiles with LR with my .tiff files - when i open the RAW files (an old version is supported, so they can be opened) the profiles are availiable as expected, but when i change to the .tiff version of the file, the profiles are gone.
    What can i do?
    Best regards
    Henrik - Denmark

In the Camera Calibration tab the only profiles that will be available are for RAW files. Tiff and Jpeg files are already rendered and you will only see "embedded". When you shoot in raw mode applying profiles and adjusting white balance are major benefits in post processing, both are already baked into files rendered by the camera. Or in your case by the camera manufacturers software.
Maybe your camera is supported by a newer version of Lightroom. What version of LR are you using and camera model?
