Using computer account & user account together?

Hi,
I would like to do it to get more control on preferences.
1.do you get any trouble using user account and computer together? is it doable?
2.Also, is there any faster way then entering mac address by hand in WGM?
Thanks

Replying to this since it is related...
We just upgraded servers and our lab clients to 10.5 over the summer. importing the preferences from the 10.4 OD setup, we had dock preferences for the computer lists, that previously combined with dock settings for our user groups. Since the computer lists are now groups in 10.5, is there no way to combine preferences for a user group and a computer group? Checking the checkbox for combine with User's dock in the computer group or user group just adds the generic OSX icon dock to the managed dock.
It just makes it annoying for the different images on the different computers in the school since some might have office 04, some 08, while some apps we had for students on all machines would have the same file path for dock purposes.
We also have a lot of emacs and ibooks still running 10.4, I haven't had a chance to look at dock preference combining for those clients yet.

  • Checking Computer AND User Account against AD without TLS

    Hi Folks,
i am working on a customer site with 5500/ACS5.2/AD/WZC. The Customer looks for a good Authentication Scenario but decides against TLS. So we tested PEAP with checking the AD for a valid Computer Account and User Auth. But, if i use a Laptop with no Domain Computer Account but a valid User Account, i  can gain Access. Is it possible that the ACS can check for a valid Computer AND User Account and successes the Client only if both Accounts are available and valid?
    Regards, Michael

Hi Nicolas, thx for this Hint. I did  today the Host Lookup and "was machin auth" thing, but anyway, my own Laptop
that is not in the Domain can connect with a Domain User ID to the Network. Any Hint or Trick? I saw on other Discussions you referred to that some Users did an AD Rejoin, what do you think?

  • Can I use the same user accounts for both Lion & SL?

I have one Mac that I can upgrade to Lion but it is the one that the entire family uses every day (I only can use it (and administer it) on weekends), so I have to make sure that there are no problems and no issues so my plan is to:
Move all of the users accounts to a different drive.
Configure 10.6.8 (SL) to use the user accounts on the different drive.
Back up SL to a bootable drive.
Repartition the Mac for a SL & Lion partition.
    Reconstitute SL on both partitions.
Upgrade one SL partition to Lion.
I should now have a partition for SL and Lion that both use the same users accounts so when I (and then my family) are comfortable with Lion, the switch will be transparent.
Any problems that I am unaware of (and how to remediate it)?
    TIA.

There are a few discussions here on the topic that I was planning to employ:
Moving Home folder to different HDD From Mac OSX Snow Leopard via Terminal?
Moving some Users to different volume
How do you move a user account to a different drive?
Another way of doing it is to move the directory, and then alter the user's home directory using the NetInfo utility (Tiger) or Directory Utility (Leopard). In both, you can change the user's home directory from the command line in Terminal.app like so:
    $ sudo dscl . -create /Users/user NFSHomeDirectory /Volumes/volname+/+user
In the SL System Preferences -> Accounts one can select a user's account, right click and choose Advance Options presents the screen below. This is how I intend to point each OS to the same user account on an external HDD.
    Does that answer your question?
    TIA.

  • Sharpener Pro 3 has problems in Aperture as the Pre sharpener continually asks one to buy or activate and the Output Sharpener causes Aperture to hang. Have removed all duplicate fonts and tried using a new user account. Any ideas?

I am experiencing problems with Sharpener Pro 3 as an Aperture 3 plug-in. These are:  the Pre sharpener continually asks one to buy or activate and the Output Sharpener causes Aperture to hang. Following discussions with Nik Software I have removed all duplicate fonts and tried using a new user account. Neither of the courses of action worked. Have other users experienced these difficulties? Can you suggest an alternative remedy?

  • Why am I getting this message on my e-mail account: User account temporarily unavailable for system maintenance

Why am I getting this message on my e-mail account: User account temporarily unavailable for system maintenance?

Is there a solution to this issue?  I have an iPhone and an iPad that sync with Outlook using iTunes.  Every now and then the contacts, calander and notes become unchecked for both the iPhone and iPad.  When I recheck them and "Apply" I get this message:  The information on the iPad is synced with another user account.  Do you want to sync this iPad with the information from this user account?
As far as U know I have only one User Account.  I see that many people have this issue.  why isn't there a solution?

  • One computer, two user accounts, two libraries - how to share??

My husband and I each have an account on our Dell computer. We each have an iTunes library and would like to have the two libraries shared with each other. We've put them in the shared documents, shared music folder. We also set our preferences in each of our iTunes accounts the location of the library. My library updated to the shared account, but without any of the music purchased from his account. His library shows no music at all - it won't update to the shared file. When we open the shared music folder - all the music is there. It just doesn't come through to iTunes. Help!!!

    Hi Lou18,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
If you have used iChat to enter two .mac account screen names then you have to view it as one iChat. Whichever settings one of you sets then that will be the settings the other sees.
However if you mean you have set up two Mac User Accounts on the Mac you will need to check that she is actually opening her Mac user account and has not added her .mac details to your iChat.
There is a possibility that you are talking about Family Accounts or a email Alias for one .mac account in which case one of you will need to use a different screen name for iChat.
Now this new Name can be AIM or a trial .mac.com name as these will work after the 60 days is up. It is the Linked .mac accounts that do not work for iChat.

  • Using Time Capsule to host iTunes library for use by multiple user accounts

I have recently purchased my first Time Capsule (2TB, delivered December 2010). I have also recently begun to share a single iTunes library with my partner (ie. we have separate user accounts, but following the instructions found at http://steve-on-sakai.blogspot.com/2009/07/really-sharing-your-itunes-library.ht ml, both of our iTunes apps open to the same library).
I think i've done everything correctly, as everything will work as expected ... once we are able to force our way into iTunes.
My knowledge gap seems to be with my understanding of how Time Capsule and its "Data" folder work.
I've moved our entire iTunes folder into the Data folder on the Time Capsule, and i understand that only one of our user accounts can have iTunes running (that one must quit iTunes before the other user will be able to launch iTunes).
What happens sometimes, seemingly dependant on who has signed into their account first, or who has launched and quit iTunes first, is that iTunes will not launch; we are required to choose an iTunes library. This is easily enough done, except when the Data folder is unavailable to that particular user at that time (indicated by the "do not enter" symbol). I've noticed that disconnecting and re-connecting to the Time Capsule will get around this.
I stumble through these steps whenever possible, but my partner is nervous about having to do all of this when i'm not available.
Naturally, what i would like is for either of us, at any time, to be able to simply launch iTunes without issue.
iTunes preferences on each accounts show that our iTunes Media folder location is "/Volumes/Data/iTunes/iTunes Music", and both checkboxes are checked for keeping the iTunes Media folder organized and copying files to the iTunes Media folder.
I suspect that my problem might stem from the fact that i initially followed the instructions given at the above steve-on-sakai blog post, using our Shared folder. Since then, i have moved everything to the Time Capsule, and i wonder if the Terminal command in Step 7 should be repeated for the Data folder ... but i'm not "literate" enough to know what i'm doing there (but wise enough to know i shouldn't mess around with Terminal if i don't know what i'm doing).
I have spent hours browsing the discussions here and elsewhere, and i can't seem to find anything that specifically addresses my issues. I have learned a lot from my searches, but i felt that posting a new question was my best option. I hope that i haven't duplicated anything.
I hope that someone will be able to fine tune my efforts so that everything will "just work".
Thank you so much, in advance...
    Bill.

Two things that are not clear
    - I think it is not possible to have iTunes running at the same time on two Macs in the discribed setting.
    - I think over a wireless connection, it will reduce speed.
    Anyone with experience?
I think what you mean is that it's not possible for two Macs to access the same iTunes library (ie. the same collection of media files) at the same time. From my research, this seems to be the case, and that's not my issue.
In my particular situation -- one that i'm sure is shared by many others -- my partner and i have separate user accounts on the same Mac, +entirely sharing a single iTunes Library+ (ie. same media files, same playlists, etc., as if we were a single user) and as long as we remember to quit iTunes whenever we walk away from the Mac (allowing the other to log in and launch iTunes and access our common library), this is not a problem.
And that is when my particular problem arises: when we launch iTunes, we are often asked to choose a Library (a series of navigations that my partner isn't entirely comfortable with), and occasionally the Data folder on the TimeCapsule is unavailable.
As for the wireless connection to our library, this has not so far proven to be an issue. Depending on what other activities are going on at the time (ie. TimeMachine backups or background Internet activity, i presume), i have only rarely experienced brief interruptions in music streaming from the TimeCapsule (<1 second). In fact, last night, we watched a movie on the laptop, with the file streaming from the TimeCapsule, and it only hesitated a few times, and again for less than a second.

  • Can I use two Windows User Accounts simultaneously?

    Hi
I use my pc for two businesses. Presently I have two user accounts that I have to switch bewteen by logging off each time - disconnecting my broadband.
Is it possible to run the two accounts simultaneously?
    Regards,
    Grant Basson
    [email protected]

    Hi Grant,
You can use the Windows shortcut to have two or more user account active at the same time. The short cut for this is to press and hold the 'Windows' key on your keyboard and also press the 'L' key. This will then cause the Windows log-on screen to be displayed but without logging off the first user account.
    regards,

  • Why is a new user account created every time I upload files from my old PC. Can't you just use the same user account all the time?

I'm a new Mac user and am finding my way slowly around it. One question: why is a new user account created every time I upload files from my old PC?

Because you're using the Migration Assistant, and it can't migrate data to an existing user account. Transfer everything at once or use a different method.

  • What do you use to create user accounts?

I have used Passenger to create my school's user accounts in the past. Since upgrading to Mavericks Server 3 I can't import the user accounts from Passenger. Does anyone know of a program that will create user accounts for 10.9?

I downloaded the Passenger 4.2 beta and was able to export a user list that included passwords that I could import into Workgroup Manager 10.9. The format of the export file has changed for 10.9.

  • Some computer, three user accounts. Should TM be "on" in each account?

    Hello everyone, and happy holidays!
I have an iMac with three user accounts. I'm doing my first full back up with TM, but am not sure if each account's TM setting should be "on." My guess is that if TM does a full back up of everything, that it doesn't make a difference, but I don't want three huge redundant copies.
    Any thoughts / advice?
    Thanks,
    Vincas

Now worries, TM will back up everything regardless of what account you are in. But more to your point, it will not make unnecessary duplicates. The only issue might be that it runs more often than needed if it is set up in every account.
If you are the house geek, set it up in your account.

  • Computer vs User Accounts on Windows PC

Trying to set up iTunes Match but concerned by warning about the computer being associated with e Apple ID. It is a family PC and other users have their own iTunes accounts as Users on the PC. By accepting does this mean they can not use their Apple IDs as different windows users - or even set up iTunes - match for themselves?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
On their users, they won't be able to use iTunes Match. You can do it only on one account

  • Can I have both Nano and Shuffle on one computer/same user account?

I have a Nano that I use daily and also just purchased a Shuffle to take to the gym (I'm a bit paranoid about the Nano getting broken, lost or stolen). I'd like to have some of the same music on both devices. Can I do that? (I've yet to plug in my Shuffle in case one overrides the other.)

    Hi MNRobin,
Yes you can! I suggest reading Knowledge Base Document #200432. If you want, you can select which songs go on which iPod by Manually adding songs, playlists, podcasts and audiobooks.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon
