Using computer manager to determine user session and files open in a remoteApp session

Hello All,
I have remoteapp users the use Sage 50, QuickBooks and a MS Access based program.
When the users are connected to the remoteapp I cannot see them using the computer manager in windows 2008 R2 server, using taskmgr I can see the user on the networking tab, and on the process tab I can see the access, quickbooks, and peach (sage) processes
but I would think in computer manager I would see the quickbooks access db and sage files that the apps open but I do not. Is this normal and if so is there a way to monitor remoteapp users application /file use?

If they are accessing the files locally then they will not show up in Computer Management.  One way you can see open files is to use Process Explorer.  In Process Explorer you can select the process and then in the lower pane view you will see
file and other handles (make sure lower pane view is set to Handles on the view menu).

    How do I set up two profiles on my computer but still utilize all programs and files?  I want to set up two profiles so my wife and I can utilize two iTunes accounts and different internet settings, but when I set up an administrator profile for her and log in. I don't see all of the stuff that is on the administrator profile (mine) that was created first

    A second user account is separate; with separate preferences and data,  but can share the same apps as long as they're in the top-level Applications folder, not an Applications folder inside another user's home folder.
    Sharing files is a bit different; you can put them in the special Shared user folder, or grant permission to specific files/folders in one account to a different user.

    I usually just put my Power Mac Tiger 10.4.11 to sleep when I'm finished. But sometimes if an electrical storm is pending I like to shutdown but sometimes I have so many applications and files open I hate to. Is there anyway, maybe even with third-party software, that I can completely shutdown without closing anything and start up later and have all apps and files reopen??

    But I did read about it working on other than Laptops...
    OS X only has only one "sleep" option. You cannot change its name, but to change its behaviour, I use SmartSleep on a Mac mini (though in the MacBook-like "sleep & hibernate" mode). It works for a mini, though the website only refers to MacBooks.

  • Help! Stumped after trying 5 R's and using computer management

    Hi, I have an iPod 4th generation with a click wheel. Recently, when i tried to update using 7.02, my ipod said i needed to reconfigure to original factory settings. I tried to do so, and went through all the "5 R's." None of the worked, and then I tried to go to Computer Management and change the location of what my ipod was being read as when connected to the computer, unfortunately nothing even showed up under computer management, yet when I click on my computer and look under the folders, it's located on the E or F drive. I read another post that says to change it to like N or O, but currently I can't even access that. Also, each time I plug my ipod in, itunes says that I need to reformat my ipod to windows setting, but it's an HP ipod, so I'm not really sure why that would be. Any help or suggestions?

    dont worry. my ipod JUST did that afew minutes ago. it went dark and wasnt being recognized by itunes. its my third day with it so i was freaking out. but all i did was hold down the menu button and the center button at the same time for afew seconds and it snapped right out of it. it may not even work the first time so keep trying. once you see the apple logo youre okay. but if nothing shows up just take it back to an apple store[not where you bought it mostlikely] and they'll return it and get you another. hope it helps.

  • 2 user accounts using 1 iCloud drive account, different folders and files for each user.

    I have two user accounts on my Mac. One for work and one for personal use.
    They both share my iCloud and iCloud drive account. My issue is that when I update the files in my work account the changes do not take place when I log into my personal account on my mac.. I find this strange seeing as I am only using one account for both.
    This means when I am working and make folders or rename files and folders they only appear when I view iCloud Drive from that user profile. When I try to view iCloud drive from my personal user account or other iOS devices like my phone the old changes remain.
    Has anyone any ideas why this is?

    Because iCloud drive is not shared between users.  Each account has it's own storage.  It is NOT shared.

  • Using Media Manager to Cut up Long Media Files

    After reading the chapters in the manually quite thouroughly, I still can't make Media Manager to do what I want it to. I need several long media files broken into smaller files, for use in soundtrack pro.
    I captured 17 Tapes worth of footage from start to stop, and then logged them and turned individual shots and taks into subclips. After importing each subclip into SoundTack Pro, I realized that it will import the entire original media, and not just the sub clip, thus I decided that I needed to break up all my actual media files, into smaller files. (If there's a way around this, seeing as how working in SoundTrack with an individual Takes audio is my goal, I'd love to hear about it)
    So, I tried to use media manager. I set it up with "use existing" media selected, "Delete unsed media from selected clips" selected, "base media files on" set to clip names, and did NOT select duplicate selected clips and place into a new project. I did NOT use handles.
    After it was done processing, it did not break the files into individual takes (the way the subclips were made) like I wanted it to. It did break the files down smaller, but it includes multiple takes and multiple shots in each file.
    Can someone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to do? Or, if someone can show me a work around for the using subclips in SoundTrack pro (I know this is not the SoundTrack pro Forum) then I would do fine using the clips how they are.

  • Missing User settings and files after disabling Filevault on Lion

    I just installed OS X Lion on my mac and everything worked fine until I disabled the legacy filevault on my system. When the machine rebooted it had wipped out all my settings and files it would seem. After a bit of searching i found my files in the /Users directory. However the files are placed inside a folder called myusername.fvCopy. If I change any settings in my account like removing apps from the dock and reboot the changes haven't taken effect when it boots back up.
    I have no idea what to do about this.
    Any help is much apprciated.

    I fixed it by logging in to a different account and deleteting the broken homefolder via the terminal and renaming the myusername.fvCopy to myusername.

  • Making pull down menus and file open dialogs speak

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create some applications that include speech
    assistance for the visually impaired. there are two things that are
    causing problems:
    1. I can't make the file open dialog boxes speak. I would
    like to emulate the behavior of third party screen reader
    applications that speak the identites of GUI elements as the user
    tabs through them. I am able to do this for custom dialogs made
    with the MUI Xtra by putting voiceSpeak commands in the callback
    handler so that as each widget gets focus during tabbing, it speaks
    its identity. But this doesn't appear to be possible with file open
    dialogs created with FileXtra.
    2. I have created pull down menus using installMenu. This
    works great, but I would like the user to be able to navigate these
    menus using the arrow keys, and have each menu item speak as it
    navigated to.
    If anyone has any ideas about how to accomplish these things
    in D11, I would be very grateful.

    Likewise on this screen there is 'Cancel' and 'Done' Buttons', what is the difference both close that screen.
    I am assuming the 'Done' Buttons saves any manipulation of exposure or colours you may have made? and the 'Cancel' just forgets them?
    Is there a manual for this product; that one can reference, screen by screen? explaining what each option actually does.

    If you are opening a raw file (.CR2), both routes are identical, because you have to convert raw files in ACR anyway.
    If you are opening a jpeg file, you can open the file directly in the Elements Editor (Open),

    Cancel does cancel every edit you have started. You are back to the original file.
    'Done' saves your edits, as you rightly assume.
    'Open' saves the edits and send them to the editor for further editing if you want, for local retouch or using layers for instance.
    'Alt Open' does not saves the edits, but sends the edited result to the editor.
    'Save' is only used if you wish to convert the raw files to the DNG format.

    I have recently come back to Mac after using only Windows for 15 years. I LOVE my new iMac, but am finding one thing extremely annoying.
    Whenever I open a folder, application, or file, the contents are displayed as they were when I last closed it. For example, the first item may not be displayed on top (the window or file is scrolled down), a sub-folder may be open so that its contents are displayed as well, etc. I find this PARTICULARLY annoying with iPhoto (I want to start at the top of an album every time I access it).
    I would like my folders, applications, and files to open as they do the very first time they are opened EVERY time. Is there any way to make this happen?

    You could move them back to the beginning before you close them.

    Hi All,
    It seems to me like a bizzare occurance that the Mac O/S caters for mulitple user profiles on one machine and iTunes allows for mulitple users to have seperate libraries on one machine but I cannot use one Mac for itunes Match.
    My wife and I share the same mac, we have an iTunes account each and seperate music libraries but I cannot use her iTunes match as it will lock me out for 90 days on my iTunes match.
    This is crazy? am i missing something.

    By using Service Desk scenario of Solution Manager you can convert an issue to an OSS message and follow it up.

  • Help using FileMakerPro 12 with OS 10.6 and file sharing

    This topic is posted here because it deals mostly with file sharing and OS 10.6.
    A business wants one (and only one) computer on the network to have several FMP data files on employees, and then have five computers with FMP client software open and modify those files.  Password protection is not important.
    It seems that:
    1.  The Mac having those data files must have a fixed IP and that IP must be used by the accessing computers
    2.  File sharing turned on.
    3.  The data files should be in a folder in the SHARED folder of the Users folder
    4.  Proper privileges need to be assigned to that folder
    QUESTIONS:
    •  1.  Is there any way for the guests to access the single computer without knowing the IP ?  Must the IP of the host computer always be fixed ?
    •  2.  Can sign on be facilitated by placing an alias of the folder on the dektop of the guests and storing the password, such that the guest merely clicks on the alias and the folder opens displaying the data files on the host computer ?
    •  3.  Since licensed FMP will be on all of the computers, the data file should open up with the client software on each computer, and any changes saved bat to the host.   Has there been any corruption by this technique ?
    •  4.  What happens if the host computer attempts access of one data file  at the same time a guest is accessing ?    Is access denied ?
    •  5.  In this setting, is "the Cloud" (with name and password protected web access) superior to local file sharing ?
    They are on low bandwidth ADSL.  The CEO of this business does not want to use "the Cloud" to host the data files, and doesn't want to use a stand alone local server.

    Please read the following and don't do what you are proposing.
    iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
    It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
    If you use an iphoto library on a TC.. one day it will corrupt and all your photos will then be lost.
    PLUS.. The TC is not a NAS.. it cannot back itself up. Time Machine cannot backup Time Capsules as it is a network drive.
    That means you will have no backup of the library you just corrupted.. so don't do it.
    It should be stored on an external drive plugged into your MBPr and HFS+ formatted.. otherwise the consequences are dire.
