Using Content Engine for SOCKS Proxy

We have a CE566 integrated with an ICAP server in a proxy role for our network.
we are experiencing issues with a Java applet that many of our users use with an outside vendor.
Here are the test results from Sun's Java J2RE development team who we're working with:
The trace log shows SOCKET connections via ports 80 and 443
failed.
network: Connecting socket://server.domain.com:80 with proxy=SOCKS @
/1.2.3.4:8080
[SimpleConnection] userloginname: connect attempt failed
network: Connecting socket://server.domain.com:443 with proxy=SOCKS

Does anyone have any information in regards to using the CE as a proxy in this regards? I have obviously found command language for http; https; and ftp - but nothing for other methods

The site he's accessing required SOCKS proxy. The ACNS does not support SOCKS.

give ur
1.document name as message type
2.give ur recordstructure as Details,,Header,1,ITEM,
3.mention ur keyfield.
conversion parameter
Header.fieldFixedLength - give the field lengths
Header.fieldNames=mention all the field name
Header.keyField=enter the value of keyfield
Header.endSeparator='nl'
repeat the same for Item

Cisco Content Engine for Content Filtering

Hi All,
I am looking for a low end solution for Content Filtering and would like to use Cisco Content Engine.
1. The documentation said that Websense, Secure Computing SmartFilter (does not require separate SmartFilter) & N2H2 support is there on the CE. I used configurator on CE 510, but it did not give me option for any of those. I would appreciate any input in this regard.
2. Also, I assume that once I get a Content Engine, I don't need to use Microsoft Proxy any more, please confirm.

You would have to Install the Smartfilter software on the Content engine that would work with the ACNS software running on the CE. SmartFilter software operates inside your network to control user access to external Internet resources and allows you to restrict access to World Wide Web pages, newsgroups, and FTP sites.

The Content Engine does the job of storing content locally and serving it to the users, so you would not need to use the Microsoft Proxy.

Content engine for video on the LAN

Hi
I have a video server on the LAN. I want to position the content engine on the LAN to use it for stream splitting to avoid loading the video server. Can i do this i.e. placing the Content engine on the same network as the source? Or could I use the Content engine module on the router. If so then how do I connect it?

Using accrual engine for reversal of month end provisions

Hello everyone,
I am working on a requirement to set up accrual engine for automatic reversal of month end provisions (like electricity expense provision at month end which will be reversed on first day of next month).
I understand that accrual engine is meant for handling accruals and deferrals. But having seen the manual option of FBS1 and F.81, I felt there must be an option in the accrual engine also to handle provisions and their reversal. Also, I saw some comments in this forum that using accrual engine it is possible to automatically reverse the postings.
So I set up a test scenario in sandbox client with basic configuration for Manual Accruals (accrual type, methods, object category, number ranges, account determination)
After that I created an accrual object which automatically created an FI document for the provision entry. So far it is fine and working as expected. Now, for reversing the document, I see two options:
1) Reverse entire accrual run; or
2) Reverse the accrual object.
By reversing the accrual object, I was able to post a reversal FI document. I am not sure whether reversal of entire accrual run is right option since SAP help recommends to use this in case wrong key date was used.
But both options require manual execution for reversal.
Am I missing some other option? Is there any other option/setting in the accrual engine where it is possible to set up automatic reversal of a month end provision? Only if this is not feasible, I would look at other solutions (like FBS1+F.81 or FBS1+background job for F.81).
Any inputs/pointers from the learned members will be highly appreciated.

As far as I know, all clients I worked with preferred using "FBS1+background job for F.81" as they found this more flexible (adapt job variant and possible dynamic selection), easy to maintain and well understood by accountants (rather than using accrual type, methods, object category...)

Content engine 510 - transparent proxy stand-alone

Hello to all,
after studying architecture examples about Content Engine 510, I found that there is two modes:
1) standard proxy
2) transparent proxy
I need the transparent architecture !
But every example about transparent mode seems to include a router or a switch with a particular level of software, that can send http requests to the Content Engine to have cache.
I don't have any of these components.
I simply need to have a Content Engine that receive any kind of IP protocols on one ethernet, and route it to the other ethernet plug, except that if it is http protocol, it will cache the pages.
Is is simply impossible to configure the Content Engine 510 that way ?
Is the transparent proxy mode always requires a router or a switch to give it the http flow ?
If it is possible, where can I find some configuration examples ?

Olivier,
You'll need to have a router running wccp in order to redirect http requests to the cache. Withouth this, the cache has no visibilty of traffic on your LAN.

All.
We are in the process of designing our landscape for SMP 3.0, where we will expose Agentry functionality, and are currently looking at the Reverse Proxy technology to use.

Common Requirements for Reverse Proxies - Landscape Planning and Design - SAP Library
it is stated that any reverse proxy used:
Does not remove any HTTP headers.
Sets a timeout period, if used, that is greater than the timeout used by the clients.
Is this all the requirements that must be fulfilled for a reverse proxy ?
We are looking into installing a common Reverse Proxy technology, that can handle reverse proxy requirements for multiple platforms.
Hence I need to specify the requirements, in relation to SMP, for this technology.

Socks Proxy Authentication

I have working socks proxy with Java Mail 1.4.5 without user name/password but wish to support socks proxies that require user names and passwords.
I have tried using an authenticator on the Session.getInstance(Properties, Authenticator) object but I get an error saying incorrect user name/password on my socks proxy.
My sample code is below:

I am using this method for socks proxy support in java mail.
If your proxy server supports the SOCKS V4 or V5 protocol (http://www.socks.nec.com/aboutsocks.html, RFC1928) and allows anonymous connections, and you're using JDK 1.5 or newer and JavaMail 1.4.5 or newer, you can configure a SOCKS proxy on a per-session, per-protocol basis by setting the "mail.smtp.socks.host" property as described in the javadocs for the com.sun.mail.smtp package. Similar properties exist for the "imap" and "pop3" protocols.
Message in Proxy logfile is:

I have confirmed user name and password several times and tried extra ones just in case but no luck.
Does anybody have any ideas. THe fact that it tries to authenticate the login on my proxy server suggests I'm trying the correct method to connect to me but can someone confirm this for me?
This proxy has this user added as I set it up myself.

Content Engine caching video content?

I am currently running ACNS version 5.5.11.2 on a CE510 Content Engine. I recently had to replace the unit and when I set up the partitions for the new build, I elected to go with CE510#disk config sysfs 10% cfs 45% mediafs 45%.
Before the cfs was setup to use the whole box. I was thinking that the mediafs partition would start to cache video content. Does that happen automatically or is there some other setting to make that happen further. How do I determine if it is getting any use?

A content engine can cache files transfered via ftp but not https [as the content is encrypted].
It can cache whatever file, including video, audio, ...
Content routing, content switching are just names.
They refer to how the traffic will be intercepted and forwarded to the content engine.
You could simply use a proxy solution and have your users setup their browser to use the content engine as a proxy, or you could transparently intercept http/ftp traffic via a router running wccp, or you could use a Layer7 device like a CSS to intercept the traffic and redirect to the content engine.

if you were planning to use the IIS for reverse proxy as well , then you can have this functionality with SAP Web Dispatcher.

You can work with that repository as long as you are using the portal as a frontend for the backend system but not to store content created in the portal itself.

Javadoc newbie - how to get "USE" content

I don't understand how to get content from the USE button. At the moment all my attempts produce a USE button which links to a page stating something like "No usage of root.package.class".
My current argument string for Javadoc is something like
-d c:\Doc -use C:\Source\
This doesn't work (produces a nice set of pages with the above problem on the "USE" page). To be specific there is no USE content even for two classes in the same package where one is used by the other.
I've tried guessing some longer combinations of terms leading up to:
-d c:\Doc -use -sourcepath C:\Source\ -classpath C:\Classes\ -subpackages root.packageA root.packageB C:\Source\*.java
though still to no avail. Please can someone offer some advice? Thanks very much

No. Imports are considered by Javadoc to be part of the implementation. If you notice, javadoc does not document imports. Imports are completely ignored by Javadoc, other than to resolve names.
A "use" is where a type appears in a declaration, not an import or other implementation.

Should the Cisco Content Engines be used as a proxy appliance

Should the Cisco Content Engine be use as a proxy appliance like a Blue Coat appliance, Squid cache engine, ISA server, etc...
I am pretty sure it is but just need some feedback on past experiences. Customer would like to by a Cisco product for Web filtering/proxy.
or is it strictly used to help with web base applications.

the CE is basically able to check every request it supports. If you are using 3rd level products like smartfilter, websense or webwasher you can use the features of those products to supress/forbid certain requests(i.e MSN etc.)
