Using Contribute CS5 to edit site created w/Dreamweaver - PayPal button size issues

I'm using Adobe Contribute CS5 to edit my web site that was built with Dreamweaver on a Mac.  I have a PC with Windows XP, 1G of ram, a 40G hard drive (used only for programs and operating system) a 1 terabyte external hard drive for all files, etc.  I use MSN Explorer for my browser.
I have done extensive editing and everything works fine except for when I edit or add PayPal buttons.  The site was built using "tables" for most everything as well as all of my price lists.  When I add a button or edit button properties, that row of cells doubles in height, in the "editing window" they look okay but when I publish the page they take on the doubled height.
I contacted Contribute tech support and they say Contribute is working properly and the problem is with how the button code was written in Dreamweaver.  The tech said even though the button looks like it is the proper size, the code tells it to take up more space thus giving me the cell height problem.  My standard price lists do not have any lines defining rows and columns but on one page I have been experimenting with I have given the table a line value of 1 to enable me to see what is going on, you can view this page at; http://www.hopscrimshaw.com/birds/owls1.htm
My Webmaster and I parted ways a few years ago so seeking help there is not an option, she won't return phone calls, reply to e-mails, etc.
Any help solving this problem would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,   PapaHop

I am also having this problem and any answer would be greatly appreciated. The code <p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"> </p> gets added whenever text edits are made. This seems to create spaces on the page which pushes content out of alignment. The code gets put into the navigation, the text and anything above the text being edited, jpeg sliders, images, etc.

  • Contribute CS5 - cannot edit pages

I have just installed trial (full) verstion of Contribute and I connected, can navigate between pages etc without any problem in view mode.
However when I click the edit button it says (after trying to download the page and set up some files to work in): "Contribe encountered a network or file system error. Please try the operation again and contact the administrator if the error continues to occur." and does not create an editing page. If I do it again it creates an editing page but it is only the template and no text (apart from what exists in the template). If I add some text and publish it, it adds the text to the page I was editing adding it to the text already there (but which was not viewable in the edit page).
Any ideas why this is happening? I have never used this programme before. My provider has no idea why this is happening and is not familar with Contribute. Any help to resolve this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please clear the preferences and try.
Delete the Preferences in Library –
Go to “<username>/Library/Preferences/”   and delete the folder  “Adobe Contribute CS5”
Delete the Preferences in locale -
Go to “<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/”     and delete the folder  “Contribute 6”
If the above doesnot help then check if there any other versions of Contribute on the same machine and clear them also along with CS5 and try again.
Check publishing a plain page from Contribute and reediting the same.
Can you try editing any other page with a different template ?
Could you try the same on any other machine and check?
Can you share the URL ?

  • I cannot gain access to my website using Contribute CS5

I have Contribute CS5 on a Mac running 10.7.5 and used to be able to access it but cannot now.  I CAN access the site on the internet fine and using YummyFTP can upload to it fine.
When I use the CS5 Wizard to set up the connection I end up with "Access Denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."  I have double checked all the inputs, I called my ISP and went thru everything there = all permissions are open to me, I'm usign the proper user ID and password and she can get to the site also.
When I do get the CS5 Wizard going it says in a dialog screen "Downloading 'cthub...etc....csi'  and nothing else happens.
Another dialog that comes up is -- "Contribute cannot verify your connection information.  /  Please contact your administrator for assistance."
I have talked to the ISP and we can't solve it between us.

I finally gained access as a User but I cannot call myself an Administrator = it says my password is wrong but I put in the password for my website access - what other password are they talking about???

  • PHP MySQL sites created by dreamweaver mx 2004 crash on safari

    Hello,
The title says it all, but i will elaborate.
I develop PHP, MySQl driven database websites, I use
Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I work on a macintosh, using both safari
    version 2 and 3.
i have noticed that whenever I post a database item (add,
edit to table) my safari hangs and I get a page cannot be displayed
error after 1 minute or so, even though the db function went
    through.
Now, this only happens with safari and it only happens with
pages I build with dreamweaver, any hand coded websites I build do
    not do this.
i have posted this on the apple website with no response, I
am hoping someone here can help me.

  • Site created in Dreamweaver is stuck on Flash upgrade

    RE: www.garyhendrycustomhomes.com
This site was created in Dreamweaver CC. Every functioning aspect of this site works perfectly and acts normal when previewed offline in a browser.
However, when I complete an upload of the entire site and bring the url up in my browser, I get a white page with this message:
    Please upgrade your Flash Player.
Already have Flash Player? Click here if you have Flash Player 6 installed.
I am on a Mac running OS 10.9.1.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm not seeing it.  Only your Gallery page appears to be using Flash.  Do you have the latest Flash player installed on your system?
FYI, Flash is pretty much dead these days since the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices can't support it.  To reach a wider audience, you should replace your Flash slideshows with jQuery.  Cycle2 is a very nice plugin.  http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle2/

  • Canot edit site created on old mac notebook on my new one

I created a site using iWeb on my old Mac notebook. Everything worked fine,
Then I bought a new MacBook Pro and gave my old Mac to my partner, after deleting my acount and all data on it,
I thought that since I have my iWeb data files on my iDisk and I am using the same .Mac account as before that I would be able to edit the existig site with my new notebook.
However, whenever I open iWeb on the new MacBook, the only option I am presented with is to create a new site. If I say 'cancel' then the programme shuts down. There seems to be no option for opening and editing an existing site. I have searched through all the help and found no answers.
Am I stuck with a website that cannot be edited and am I forced to re-do all the work I did because I upgraded my Mac? Is there no way to import that existing site into the iWeb on my new Mac?
This whole experience is leaving me feeling very frustrated. I would appreciate very much finding out how to be able to edit my existing site with the new Mac I bought -- part of the reason for buyig it was better performance on iPhoto and thus making it easier (I thought) to use iWeb.

Yes, unless you have a backup of the Domain file that was used to create the site.

  • Upgraded to Muse CC can't edit site created in Muse CS6

I just created my first MUSE site in CS6 and was very happy until I upgraded to Muse CC. Now I can't edit the site. I really don't want to spent a day rebuilding it. What can I do?

Thanks for your reply. Problems solved. I had inadvertently locked the items
on one of the pages and could not therefore edit it. The real problem was me
being new to MUSE and not yet understanding the nuances.
    Thanks

  • Editing old site created in Dreamweaver

I have to edit my website (created by someone else in Dreamweaver for me about five years ago). The only thing I really need to change is the "last modified on ..." date - so a very simple edit.
I have all the files but can't remember how to edit them. I tried to open the "index" html file in Dreamweaver but it's not letting me make any edits in the code panel. Is that not the file that I need to edit?

    Hi Kate,
sorry, didn't see before, that you already solved your editng problem. Here a hint in the ftp-direction and only to show you another way to all these really good and correct advices, I'll try to give my recommendation:
For various reasons I prefer to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server, with a program which works "outside" of the DW. Therefore I am using filezilla with great success and it looks for me easier to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:

  • Editing site created with template: can't see nav menu

This is potentially a stupendously dumb question but I have
never used DW templates before with editable/noneditable regions,
and I need a little guidance.
    I am using DW8.
I am preparing an estimate to make some minor changes to a
website that was created using DW templates. I downloaded and saved
a few of the HTML files, the css file, the default.dwt file, and
the lbi files to my local drive so I could noodle around in there
and scope things out. The odd thing is that the navigational menu
is missing from the downloaded files. Will the answer be obvious
once I have access to the full directory of web files? I did see
code for an alternative menu for older and Mac browsers, and there
is js language instructing to "write menu to screen" if that helps.
Code for the dwt file is attached.
    Thanks so much in advance

    > and there is js language
    > instructing to "write menu to screen" if that helps.
then the menu is probably all or partly JavaScript.

"attachments" don't transfer to the newsgroup version

  • How do I edit site created by iWeb on iWeb - oddly no option seems to exist

A year ago, I created a website with iWeb - saved it to a folder and uploaded it to our corporate server. I believe at some time in the past, I was able to quickly edit the package and rehost. Now I am unable to "find" the folder from iWeb. I placed the folder package in the Sites folder but there seems to be no option to load and edit the package from the iWeb menu - it keeps asking me to select templates and start from scratch.
I created the site in Tiger and am now running Leopard. Due to complications during the Leopard install, I had to replace my hard drive, but I was able to slowly migrate everything (?) back to the Leopard install. As I said previously, I have the website folder package and can open and verify that the contents are intact - I simply cannot find a way to get it into iWeb to edit it.
    PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

I placed the folder package in the Sites folder but there seems to be no option to load and edit the package from the iWeb menu
Clearly you know very little about this application.
Due to complications during the Leopard install, I had to replace my hard drive
You're the only person I've ever heard of in the history of computers that claims to have ruined a hard drive with software. Clearly, you know little of operating systems as well.
I have the website folder package and can open and verify that the contents are intact - I simply cannot find a way to get it into iWeb to edit it.
This statement, again, clearly indicates the desire to import published html back into the iWeb application. This is the "root" of your post and Kirk spoke to it directly.
Your intentions here are clear to most of us; you really don't want to solve your problems--you would rather disrupt this forum. I myself answered your Leopard issue weeks and weeks ago, yet you continue to bash Apple with most of your posts.
They don't respond to you in the Leopard forums anymore. I suggest the good people here stop responding to you as well.

  • Cannot use Photoshop CS5 to edit in PSE 5

When I try to"edit in Photoshop" with Photoshop Elements 5, Photoshop CS5 loads, but the photo does NOT, and I get this error:
"an error occurred while attempting to edit the file in the external editor"
    Suggestions?

I wish I could solve your problem but I can only broaden it:  I'm having a problem with editing as well from PSE7.  PSE does properly pass a JPEG over to CS5 but when I save the file as a JPEG in CS5 it asks if it is OK to overwrite rather than just allow the save.  If I exit immediately after saving the JPEG it prompts me to save it as a PSD.  Whether I save again or not when I return back to PSE the edited JPEG and PSD files are gone and the image is locked in the Organizer.  I had to exit the organizer, restart the program and remove the edited version from the Organizer - which complains because the file is missing.   Perhaps there's a trick to enabling these programs to integrate cleanly but I haven't figured it out yet.

  • How to upload site created with Dreamweaver via FTP to the iWEB server?

    Hi everyone,
I recently created a site on Dreamweaver and want to upload the site, via FTP to the iWEB server. My questions are the following:
    1. What is the FTP host address?
    2. How do I connect to my website via FTP?
Any help on the following questions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hello Lauretta and welcome to the forum.
You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info.

  • Meta tag error in site created by dreamweaver

I recently checked my site www.bestical.com at The W3C Markup Validation Service and there are error in it
but  added all the meta tags by standard Dreamweaver tools
    so which one is wring?

Short answer:  You're using an HTML5 doc type which has a different set of specs for valid meta tags and other HTML syntax.
    Introduction to HTML
    Where you have this:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="fa">
Language must be expressed in the <html> tag like this:
    <!doctype html>
    <html lang="fa">
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">

  • Can you use Muse to maintain a site built in Dreamweaver?

I  currently have a website that is being maintained in Dreamweaver - but I would like to move to an application that is a little more user friendly. Is this possible?

You'd have to rebuild the site in Muse (which, may times, will take less time than the original dreamweaver site). If the site is responsive and multiple pages update often, I wouldn't recommend a switch to Muse as of now due to extra time needed for updates on tablet/phone versions, though some of that can be worked around with Business Catalyst content holders.

  • Can Contribute CS5 publish to secured PHP pages?

I have created a site that has standard HTML pages and a members section that uses PHP pages with the Dreamweaver restrict access server behavior to limit access to authorized users.  I'm trying to use Contribute CS5 to update or create new secured pages (ultimately the client will do this) but it only seems to work for the static HTML pages.
When I open the login PHP page, I can enter the user name and password, but the page that I am then directed to (set us as part of the login user server behavior) returns a script error telling me "Spry" is undefined on a line that dosen't spry.  I can either continue running scripts on the page or not (same behavior results), edit the page and then try to publish it, whereupon I get an error saying that either the server is busy or I am not authorized to publish on the site.  But without exiting the app, I can then go to a static html page, edit and successfully publish it, so it seems that the problem is associated with the restricted access pages, as though session variables aren't being recognized.
    All help appreciated.  Thanks.

OK, found the problem. There was an incorrect path to a javascript file in my header navbar that only effected PHP pages that were in a file off the root.  All non-PHP pages, being in the root, worked fine.
So the bottom line is that Contribute works properly, and the problem was a path error that Contribute was in fact flagging.
Only wish that I had seen this before I changed all of the PHP pages to HTML and revised the login pages to so all of them I needed to update were non-PHP.  OUCH!
I guess I get 10 points for answering my own question... but not worth it.
