Using control option to adjust brush size and feather

I saw this cool shortcut for adjusting brush size and feather by holding control option and then dragging left right or up down
to adjust the brush but in the video when he clicked and dragged to adjust the brush displayed red while being adjusted and
I can't seem to get the red rubylith to display so I can't see the brush feathering when adjusted.

And whether that works (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > GPU Settings) depends on your graphic display card (and its driver).

  • Adjustment Brush: Flow and Feather

Not so much a question, as an observation. Maybe it will help somebody.
I'm not a big user of the Adjustment Brush. I tend to use it occasionally for applying Clarity, Highlight Recovery, or applying/removing Sharpening.
I'd never much paid attention to the Flow and Density settings before today, and I certainly never really understood the Flow setting. The Feather setting never seemed to work as expected too. So, I just spent 10 minutes with a 50% grey image and a -2-stop brush, getting to the bottom of it all.
Density is the easiest setting to understand: it's like a percentage limit on effect opacity. So 100 means that your brush can deliver 100% of your chosen settings.
Flow was a little tricker to fathom. I expected Flow to control how fast the "paint" comes off the brush. But, no matter how slowly I move the brush, it doesn't come out any thicker. Maybe Flow is the wrong word. I worked out that you had to paint the same spot several times with a low Flow setting to get full Density. It's like Single Pass Density.
Feather is where I came unstuck. Setting any more than 0 give you a two-circle brush cursor. To me, this suggests that the inner circle is solid, the outer circle is clear, and inbetween is a gradient curve. In reality, the brush paints well outside the outer circle (increasing with Feather amount), and isn't solid at the inner circle either. This explains why I've always gone over the edge with a feathered brush, and why it always looks bloody awful when painting an exposure adjustment. Thank goodness the guys added Highlights to the brush settings.

    Rob Cole wrote:
To be clear (and I think this is what you were saying too): Flow controls amount of paint per unit of time, regardless of brush movement speed..., for example:
flow = 100 -> you'll get full amount of paint instantly, that amount determined by density.
flow = 0 -> there will be zero paint coming out, so not a useful setting.
    flow = 50 -> somewhere in between...
No, that's just it: it's not what I was saying. It is what I expected, but not what I found. Time has nothing to do with it. You can take as long as you like, and no more paint comes off the brush. That was the point I was making, and why I said I thought that "flow" was the wrong word. To me, flow is time-related (volume per second).
'Flow' seems to work by rationing the amount of paint in each stroke. It is only built up by extra strokes.

How can I set together  to  my PS5 or Ps6 in order to change brush size and opacity at the Intuos Pro Large?

The MTU setting on the interface is the layer 3 packet size. In this case, the MTU is set to 1500, but the largest frame size transmitted on the interface (including layer 2 headers) is 1516. It sounds like you are experiencing another problem at the LES.

  • The"Auto Mask" option of Adjustment Brush in Camera Raw

In Camera Raw, I saw the "Auto Mask" option at the bottam of all the slides of Adjustment Brush, what is this option for?
When you halt your mouse in this option, it prompts that it is for adjusting the sensitivity of brush's edge, but I don't understand what does it mean exactly.

    No.

Might as well go into Photoshop and spend 30 minutes doing my own mask if the excessive haloing can't be improved.
Many of us were hoping Adobe would invest in improving the auto-masking technology for Lr4, but didn't happen. Fingers crossed for Lr5...
As is, it's only marginally useful...

  • Change brush size and hardness with CTRL-OPT-DRAG

It may seem like an odd question, but I just can't use the shortcut to change size and the hardness of the brush in CS5 : Ctrl-Opt-drag
I work on a MacBook Pro with a magic mouse. As soon as I click on CTRL, at the tip of the pointer, a small box appears (the icon of a menu) and then if I click, the small brush menu opens.
I work on a french keyboard and I don't know how to get to change this shortcut since I'm not looking to reassign a key but an 'action'.
I've reset all the shortcuts to original settings in the keyboard Preferences.
Oh, and yes, I did select the OpenGL option.
It sounds really easy but it's driving me crazy !!!
If anyone has an answer, that would really help !
    Thanks,

Ruedis, thanks for your input, but on a Mac, a Ctrl+Click is the same as a windows Right click (and one can Right Click with a mouse on a Mac), the Option key is the equivalent to the Windows Alt key (on my UK keyboard, it is also ALT that is written on the key. The Windows CTRL key is called Command on a Mac.
So, on a Mac forum, saying CTRL-OPT-DRAG equals to saying ALT+Right Click on a PC one.
    In short:
    Win
    Mac
    Right Click
    Ctrl+Click
    Alt
    Option
    Ctrl
    Command
    Shift
    Shift
Don't let this discourage you, please continue to share your experience, but be aware that sometimes, the problems are not cross-platform.

  • How to change local adjustment brush size when unselecting ?

Perhaps a stupid beginners question but i cannot seem to find this one..
Using the local adjustment brush i can change the size of the brush using the [ and ] brackets
However.. when i make a small error and want to erase brushed-area by using the ALT key then the brush size seems to be fixed to one size ???

    Erwin,
As they say, there are lots of ways to skin a cat.
Erase mode uses a different setting for the brush size. You can adjust it, but not with the brackets while the Alt key is held down. With the Alt held down, you can still move the size slider in the brush panel with the mouse.
I can't speak for Macs, but on Windows, my scroll wheel works to change the size of the brush, whether the alt key is pressed or not.
If that won't work for you, you can click on the "Erase" text button in the brush panel and then use the bracket keys to change sizes. You'll be in erase mode even without holding down the Alt key. In fact, in that mode, holding the Alt key puts you back in "paint" mode.

  • How to adjust Brush size?

I can't find a Brush size that is smaller than any of the provided brush sizes.
Using the Pencil tool isn't possible as I need the Brush's pressure options (I work with a tablet).
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

scale your stage to suit your needs.  when you want a small brush, scale up the stage.  when that's not needed, return the stage to 100%.
i would think you would only use a small brush for minute detail work.  scale up the stage when working on those details.
normally, your stage will be at 100%.  use the magnifying lens to drag a magnifying rectangle around regions where details are needed.
your work-flow should not be impedded by the need to do detail work.

  • Options to view file size and type?

Where can I turn on options on an image and get the file size and type?
    Thanks.

    Stan,
You can see the file type by hovering over the file in Library view and it will show the file name followed by the extension like jpg, nef or tiff.
Alternatively in library mode go to grid view it will pixel size of the files as well as the name of the file withthe format.
If you are not able to see that go to View>View Option.
Check the option show header with label
    Hope thatt helps.

  • Help regarding brushes, sizes and such like...

    Hi...
Am trying to create some art for some large posters...
    I. Brushes:
    1. Have created several brushes... apply them along a path... not possible to change the colour of fill or stroke... Have to Expand Appearance and the fills become a problem. So what does one do? Set colour in the master and keep saving the brushes as brush-red, brush-green, etc.?
    2. Gather Brushes are not vector...? To manipulate them – distort, warp, etc., – one has to first Expand Appearance. Question: are they still vector at that stage?
    II. Pen tool:
Find it very irritaing that every time one wants to creat an anchor point one has to revert to the Anchor point tool... and even then, clicking doesn't seem to be enough. One has to actually drag a wee bit before the anchor point gets converted. Must be a short cut or simplified workaround that i'm missing??
    III. Sizes:
227 inches; Seems to be the max width... crazy... surely it should depend on total size? Meaning w x h and the raster settngs...
    Cheers!

I presume you use the Convert Anchor Point Tool (flyout from the Pen Tool) in b.
It may be easier to answer if you show what you wish to obtain: Illy has no way of knowing how you want the wave curved unless you tell her. If you just want a rounding (of your choice) at the Anchor Points of otherwise straight segments, you may use Effect>Stylize>Round Corners, otherwise you have to establish the curving somehow.
Wouldn't it be so much easier to have the anchor point convert on the click of the convert tool... or even double click... or double click of the direct select tool (white arrow) or even have a right click fly out option to convert? Or am i missing something?
2/ Size. Yes, can draw to a suitable scale... but then how / what / who increases it to actual scale at time of printing?
This is a recurring issue. Usually the printer.
    Hi Jacob...
Yes, i meant the Convert Anchor Point Tool (CAPT)... And i'm talking generally... you know.... say you want to create a wavy line... one generally clicks a few points and then goes back to get the waviness just right... that's what i mean... the whole thing seems a bit cumbersome... go back, use (CAPT), then too one has to drag a bit.. then use the Direct Selection Tool for actually getting down to business... so much easier if a double click by the DST or the a single click by the CAPT converted the anchor point... even a right click fly out with an option... FWIW. Was just hoping there was a short cut key or something which, combined with the click of some tool, converted the anchor point.
Regarding size... if you take an ai file to the printer how does he increase it (the scale)?

  • How do I change header/footer print options for font, font size, and color?

I know how to change the text for web page print of footers/headers. I can see no option to change font, font color, or font size (such as available on IE). I want to change the font, font color and font size of the footer/header when I print a web page. I read the FAQs, found nothing that seems to fit. Can you assist? or is this option available on Mozilla. I have the latest/greatest version (set to auto update).

OK, my question was about how to change font/color in headers/footers... This suggestion changes the font/color in the text, but NOT in the footers, unless I want everything in the same font/color. I need footers/headers in RED BOLD. I can do this on IE, but there does not seem to be an option for Mozilla.

  • Borderless printing in Lightroom 5--Mac Yosemite, Canon i9900.  Selected 8.5x11 borderless media, but LR insists on printing with borders.  Tried adjusting cell size and margins, but LR won't allow setting to zero.

LR won't allow me to adjust the margins below minimum values of about 0.25 in.  Borderless printing and 8.5x11 borderless media are selected.
LR also won't allow me to increase the cell size.  It seems to have a maximum of 8x10.68.
Aspect ratio of the image I'm trying to print is 8.5x11 so it should be a perfect fit.
When I print the same image in Photoshop, it prints borderless just fine on the same printer.
    Mac, Yosemite, Canon i9900.

I have had some more trials to print without boarders. This time, it was inside of iPhoto. I had made a greeting card and wanted to print to a custom size. but without the ability to select the size as a boarder less size, I was unable to print directly. So instead, I had to save as a pdf > save pdf to iPhoto and then print the image as a photo (instead of a card).

  • YIkes....I can't seem to use my cursor to change the size and shape of my boxes!

Okay, so I am very new at AI and I was working on an assigment for my class when the
cursor quit giving me the option to resize anything!
I have an assignment due tonight and I'm a little bit upset.  Does anybody know
what I am talking about and what I need to do?

Sounds like you turned off your bounding box.
Command-shift-b on the mac is the toggle, or from the view menu - show bounding box.
