Using CS150 to load balance
Using the CS150 to load balance between two or three servers, want to filter the HTTP url that is returned from the server to the client. It is showing the port number and a login.... ie.
http://weblogic:771/login.asp
I want to remove the :771/login.asp
Any ideas? Having a hard time finding any documentation on Cisco web site.
Bill
Bill,
In general, the CSS will NOT modify a URL being sent to a client from a server. The can send a "redirect url" back to the client given certain criteria coming in from the client. As far as return traffic to the client from the server, the CSS simply routes or mac forwards the data without any manipulation of the url. The only thing the CSS will modify is the ip address of the server in a NATing senario.

Is it possible to use Apache with load-balancer ?
Hello,
I'd like to know if it's possible to set up a load-balancing solution made of: Apache Web Server + Hardware Load Balancer+ Cluster of Weblogic Nodes.
In the documents I see Apache server is used only with the HTTP Proxy plugin. But I'd like to use the hardware load balancer to ditribute load to Weblogic nodes.
Is it possible to do it ?
Thanks
FrancescoHi,
The configuration you are talking about is possible. All the information is here http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/cluster/load_balancing.html#1026240 , and here http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/cluster/bigip.html#618892

Email send issue using "Mail Server Load balancer" (Cisco ACE 20)
Please let me know if someone have experienced this kind of issue or any suggestions.
The send email action was working file in MII with smtp mail server on port 25. Recently basis did a change in mail server ip address and they installed a new Load Balancer . The Load balancer is between SMTP and MII. After this change MII does not send email (unknown source error). now MII send email action has ip address or qualified path of Load balancer in MII send email configuration instead of direct ip address of SMTP server. Below is the error message in Net Weaver logs.
MII still sends email if direct ip address of email server provided but not through email Load balancer .
Any suggestions ?

Using StoneBeat WebCluster load balancing with WebLogic
Hi,
I have done some testing of WebLogic Server with my company's StoneBeat WebCluster
distributed load balancing software. This might be one more option to consider
as a load balancing solution for WLS. It is advanced in the sense that load balancing
is really dynamic, there are no single-points of failure (distributed architecture)
and there is a very good, configurable test subsystem that runs on each cluster
node to check for overload situations, HW/OS failures, ...
In the initial testing, the WebCluster load balancing works with WebLogic replication,
although there are some cases that need mroe consideration (please see below).
I had to get a patch to WLS6SP1 on NT to make WLS' multicast work when there are
several NICs on the cluster nodes.
However, there is one case which causes problems:
- I have 3 cluster nodes
- P: 2, S: 3 (SessionServlet = 1)
- 2: offline - P: 3, S: 1 (SessionServlet = 2; WebCluster randomly selected a
new node to handle the connection)
- 2: online - P: 2, S: ? (SessionServlet = 3, WebCluster redistributes the load
when a node goes online)
- 2: offline
- P: 3, S: 1 (__SessionServlet = 1__) NB!
The log messages show that when node 2 comes back online it retrieves the replica
from the secondary (node 1) and not from the primary (node 3). After a while (5-6
minutes), node 3 tries to update the replica on node 1. Node 1 considers this
a stale update request and removes the Primary 16... (node name) and then the
secondary for 16... (the replicated object). Then there's a message (still on
node 1) that it is unable to find object 16... Back on node 3 the primary for
16... is removed.
From the WLS6 documentation (under the discussion of using replication with external
HW load balancing solutions) I thought that this case would have been handled:
- it is stated that after the failure of a node, if the HWLB box sends the next
request to a node where there is no replica, WLS is able to retrieve the replica
- to be fair, this is what happens: when node 2 came back online, it retrieved
the replica from node 1 (the secondary) - I suppose that there is an assumption
that if a request arrives to a node without a replica, the primary __must have
failed__
Is there any way to get around this problem?
Admittedly, WebCluster has a problem in that the stickyness of connections is
not perfect: - when a node goes online, a connection that was correctly persisted
(based on either source-ip or source-network address) may be moved to a new node
since the load is redistributed. Our load balancing is very dynamic, but doesn't
maintain a list of who is connected to which node when resistribution takes place

Rick,
You may want to look at the Alteon and F5 configuration we have on edocs.
Take a look at the following URLs for a possible solution

Using the network load balancing from the nodes itself
I have installed a 2 node Sun Cluster 3.2, configured a shared ip resource and attached to it a scalable network aware resource working on the two nodes. I have crashed the process on one of the node in such a way that the cluster could not restart it again
In this status I tried to open a connection from another server and the load balancer always sent the traffic to the node that was up which is as expected...
If I try to open a connection from the node on which the process is failed then I get a connection refused meaning that the load balancer is not working in this circumstance.
Is this a bug/ a mis-configuration/ or just an inherent cluster problem.
Is there a solution to this issue?
Regards
DanielTo answer your first question, no, there isn't anything you can do.
Here is what my colleague suggested while I was away:
Zone-clusters scalable services still require shared-IP zones, which means requests from one app to another would still bounce back due to loopback. Probably wouldn't help here.
They could isolate the services that must talk to other services into their own failover group on exclusive-IP zones. Other services can be setup as originally planned. But maybe there are too many such "dependent services" for this to be useful. Also, each failover service must have its own IP address.
Finally, can these web services be configured so that it tries multiple addresses. In that case, if the shared address foo for service X bounces back (due to X having crashed on the local node), the app itself would retry with address bar for service X? This allows for uniform configuration across all services, namely:
- try shared address
- try node 1's own address (either public or clusternode1-priv)
- try node 2's own address
You can fine tune it so that configurations on node 1 only use node 2's address as backup, and vice versa. I don't know if that is any help.
As for your second question, the answer is that Solaris Container Clusters allow for consolidation and isolation of clusters onto a single set of nodes. Normal containers don't really allow you to consolidate complete clusters in quite the same way. See http://www.sun.com/offers/details/820-7351.html for more.

Using AE with Load Balancing Router?
Hi,
I have two Adsl cable from differents ISPs and one Airport Express (AE), I'm using one adsl in AE and wireless from AE works normaly, when the adsl link fails I change to another ADSL cable. I bought a Dlink DI-LB604 (Load Balance Router) that has 2 Wan ports to receive the two ADSL cables that I have. My question:
Will the Wireless network work if I connect my AE in to Dlink Router using Ethernet cable?
Tks
fsoatofsoato, Welcome to the discussion area!
My question: Will the Wireless network work if I connect my AE in to Dlink Router using Ethernet cable?
It should. It shouldn't be any different than connecting it to any other Ethernet connection. -
Iview contents missing when using FQDN Cisco Load Balancer
Hello Experts,
We are using Cisco load balancer to distribute the load across the portal servers. Everything was working fine, but after upgrades to the latest support package stack SP18, we ran into some odd behavior. Some of the contents on the iview are blank when using FQDN load balancer URL e.g. http://sap1234.corp.com/irj/portal . But those blank contents does show up if we donu2019t use FQDN e.g. http://sap1234./irj/portal . At this point we are not sure where to start troubleshooting?
Any helps would be appreciated,
Dave

Using CSM to load-balance two sites
Hi there,
I currently use CSS11500's at two of my sites and I'm able to use source-groups to achieve site load-balancing behind a single VIP. So basically I have a VIP that has servers in both the local site and remote site. Is something like this possible with the CSM? I suppose there's the nat server or nat client commands, but I'd like to be able to maintain original client IP address if possible, or at least maintain the original client IP for connections that stay local to the site.
Thanks,
BrandonHello Brandon-
It is not directly possible to pick and choose what servers are natted on the CSM like the CSS and ACE can do.
In the CSM, you configure nat under the serverfarm specifically.
Ex.
serverfarm Client_Nat_Example
nat server
nat client REMOTENAT
real 10.10.10.1
inservice
natpool REMOTENAT 172.16.35.5 172.16.35.5 netmask 255.255.255.0
If you were to devide up the traffic prior to hitting a serverfarm (maybe use a policy that matches specific subnets for your clients), then you could nat to only certain servers.
Ex.
access-list 2 permit 5.5.0.0 0.0.255.255
serverfarm Client-Nat-Example
nat server
nat client REMOTENAT
real 10.10.10.1
inservice
serverfarm No_Nat
nat server
no nat client
real 20.20.20.1
inservice
natpool REMOTENAT 172.16.35.5 172.16.35.5 netmask 255.255.255.0
policy client_remote
serverfarm Client_Nat_Example
client-group 2
vserver HTTP
virtual 172.16.35.7 tcp www
slb-policy client_remote
serverfarm No_Nat
persistent rebalance
inservice
With this config, the CSM checks global access list 2, anything that matches a source of 5.5.x.x subnet would go to the serverfarm with the remote servers. Anything that does not match 5.5.x.x would use the default serverfarm under the vip (No_Nat serverfarm). This is not optimal, but there is no parity between CSM and CSS when it comes to per-server NAT. -
Using ACE to load balance HTTP/S traffic between client & proxy server using tcp 8080
Folks,
I have a scenario where ACE is in load balancing connections to a bunch of Websense servers in a one-armed topology. ACE presents a single VIP to web browser clients and each client's browser proxy configuration is populated with the VIP DNS name. Traffic then gets load balanced between the Websense servers. The problem arises due to Websense requiring the 'X-Forwarded-For' HTTP header in order to obtain the source IP of the client.
ACE inserts this header into the standard HTTP 'proxied' traffic but doing this for HTTPS traffic has required the configuration of the ACE SSL proxy client server.
So the problem I have is this:
How to configure ACE to load balance both HTTP & HTTPS applications using a single VIP and tcp port number ie tcp 8080
The ACE hardware being used is ACE20-MOD-K9 - MODULE
I have attempted to use a L7 class map to match all ciphers and attach this to a L7 Policy-Map but the documentation highlights the fact the 'match cipher' configuration is only available on the ACE appliance.
I believe I am on the correct track. The HTTPS traffic must be identified and used to match against PolicyA and HTTP traffic matched against PolicyB
I'm looking for ideas! I'm hopeful someone must have solved this problem previously!!
Regards,
SimonHi Simon,
The classification has to work on different ports. Whether client types http or https doesn't matter to client. His request will reach VIP which will classify the traffic based on port, protocol first and then it can look into further detail to send the traffic to appropriate serverfarm.
You can class-map match-any xxxxx
2 match virtual-address x.x.x.x tcp any
and then you configure further classification on the basis of L7 like url, header etc.
But again, you will still need SSL termination on ACE.

Kanwal

Send Email issue using "Mail Server Load balancer" (Cisco ACE 20)
I have asked this question in SAP MII forum too but it appears issue could be in NetWeaver Mail API.
MII still sends email if direct ip address of email server provided instead of Email Load balancer but not through Load balancer .
Any suggestions ?

I don't have experience with Blackberry, but, as the document mentions, the first thing to do would be making sure that the connection timeout is set to something high enough
You can find more details on how to modify this value at the link below:

Using Azure internal load balancer (ILB) for Sql Reporting Services
I am attempting to implement a scale-out SSRS deployment using the Azure ILB feature. I have created 2 Sql Reporting servers using the azure images and have created a ILB endpoint on both servers. I am then attempting to access the servers via the
ILB from my .Net web application. I can access the report server from my browser and am prompted for credentials using forms authentication. there is no issue accessing the reports from a browser however my web application cannot access the reports
and returns a 500 error. I have a hunch this is due to an authentication issue due to invalid kerberos proxy authentication.
Does anyone have any information regarding the possible authentication mechanisms that are supported using Azure ILB?Thanks for the response Swallow0417, but as I stated I already had configured this to work in a browser. I should have mentioned that I already had set the machine key and altered the rsreportserver.config file as mentioned in
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281307.aspx.
It turns out this was due to the extended data validation that was introduced in SQL 2014.
This page led me to alter rsreportserver.config so that:
<RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>Off</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>
<RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>Any</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>
After restarting the report server service my application now can make the requests for the reports successfully. I'll provide the other steps I took to hopefully help someone else in the future:
1. Create 2 or more SQL servers in an Azure availability group on the same service in a Reports server scale out deployment. The SSRS Service account must be a domain account or it will not work
2. Create an Azure ILB using powershell and add the endpoints on your http(s) ports on the server in step 1. I also set the endpoint IdleTimeoutInMinutes to 30 on both endpoints as it seemed like there was some possible timeout issues. the endpoint MUST
also have DirectServerReturn Set to $true
3. disable the loopbackcheck see method 2 here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
create a DWORD registry key value 1,
DisableLoopbackCheck,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
4. Configure View state validation by setting an identical machine key on all servers behind the azure ILB
5. Create a Host record in your AD DNS for the Azure ILB IP Address.
6. configure hostname
and URLRoot in rsreportserver.config - see
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281307.aspx
Setting the hostname tag breaks the report manager url. It is only
required to set the URLRoot tag. I do not think it is required in this configurtaion only for Windows
NLB
6. Configure the authentication method in rsreportserver.conig
<RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>Off</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>
<RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>Any</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario> -
Hi,
Has anyone tried using Microsoft NLB for Livecycle with JBoss clustering and get it working? Able to login to livecycle's admin ui page with the NLB IP
My enviroment:
- 2 jboss application server (different IP address)
- Horizontal clustered
- LC ES2 installed on both servers
For those who setup successfully, hope you can share your experience.
Thank you.Thanks!
Just a few more questions...hehehe
In the document: Configuring LiveCycle ES2 Application Server Clusters Using JBoss.
Page 35 item 3.4. Have you had to configure the Caching Locators? If yes, where did you put them, in only one machine or in all of the nodes?
On page 29, iten 2.7 (Testing the JBoss Application Server cluster) says that for testing we can run the command specifying the server, in my case is:
run.bat -c lc_sqlserver_cl -b <ipAddress>
But in the Appendix C: Configuring JBoss as a Windows Service, it says: call run.bat -c all -b <ipAddress>
So when should I start JBoss with "lc_sqlserver_cl" or "all" ? -
Can I use VIP to load balance Coherence Extend?
Hi,
It is possible to provide a list of remote addresses for a remote cache configuration as shown below:
<remote-cache-scheme>
<scheme-name>remote-scheme</scheme-name>
<service-name>ExtendTcpCacheService</service-name>
<tcp-initiator>
<remote-addresses>
<socket-address>
<address>server1_IP</address>
<port>35501</port>
</socket-address>
<socket-address>
<address>server2_IP</address>
<port>35501</port>
</socket-address>
</remote-cache-scheme>
Now is it possible to use a VIP instead of individual IPs for the same purpose?
I tried it and failed. The error was caused by "RequestTimeout". I verified the VIP configuration and it was correct.
Does anyone have similar experience?
Regards,I haven't worked with VIP, but my vague recollection regarding VIP is that:
(1) A VIP address can only be bound to a single server as it's primarily a fast failover mechanism, so you'd still need a set of them.
(2) VIP isn't intended to be used without CRS. As Coherence includes its own cluster management stack, it would be unusual to configure CRS as well.
One would normally use a general purpose loadbalancer (HW or SW) to achieve your goals, which is a supported configuration.

NFS and ISCSI using ip hash load balance policy
As i know all these days that the best practice for iscsi is to use single nic and one standby with " route based port id" ButI have seen in a client placethat NFS and iscsi are configured to use"route based ip hash" and multiple nic and it has been working all these days. i can not see that iscsi does multi path there.I was told by the sys admin that it is ok to use that since the both protocol are configured in same storage and it does not make sense to separate it ,his explanation that if we want separate policy then use separate storage that is one for nfs and other for iscsi, i do not buy that, i might be wrong. He pointed his link below saying that you can use ip hash.http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalI....Is it ok to use " route based ip hash for iscsi as on the link?
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks CommunityWhen you create your uplink port profile you simply use the auto channel command in your config:
channel-group auto mode on
This will create a static etherchannel when two or more ports are added to the uplink port profile from the same host. Assuming your upstream switch config is still set to "mode on" for the etherchannel config, there's nothing to change.

Defining SERVER_NAME to use RUN_REPORT_OBJECT on a hardware load balancer
Hi everybody,
We are deploying a Forms application on OAS (actually Forms & Reports Services - FRS) 10.1.2.0.2 using a hardware load balancer, that distributes workload between two FRS instances on separate computers.
Forms work without a hitch, but it is executing reports that's not working.
The problem is that when using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT you have to supply the REPORT_SERVER parameter, and each computer has a different report server name, but you don't know in advance wich FRS instance you are going to connect to, because the URL is that of the load balancer.
We thought that omitting the report server name from the report_object would do the trick but then we get an "FRM-41211 integration error" message
What would be the right o recomended way to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Miguel. What would be the right o recomended way to solve this problem?I don't know what would be the right or recomended way, I can say how we solved the problem in our Forms/Reports applications.
We have a lookup table where each machine has some parameters configured, one of which is the reports server name. The first form in each application identifies the machine where it's running, and reads corresponding rows in that table.
