Using CS4 in a CS3 Training Course?

I've just acquired DW CS4. I have website experience, but none with DW. Our local tech school is offering a course in DW, but it's based on CS3 and that's the software we'll be using in class. I asked about potential training problems, but the registration office couldn't help and the instructor has not responded. Registration deadline is fast approaching...
For those familiar with both versions, do you think a DW newbie could beneift from such a course? Be totally lost? Not worth the time/cost?
Thanks for any feedback.

It depends what you hope to get out of the course - and the quality of the instructor.
Dreamweaver CS4 has added new features, such as Live View, Related Files, and the Code Navigator. It also has two modes for the Property inspector: HTML and CSS, whereas CS3 has a single mode.
I teach Dreamweaver at an authorized training centre in London (Highlander), and was very frustrated having to continue teaching on CS3 for the first three months after the release of CS4. My frustration was based on the fact that I think CS4 is so much better. However, earlier this year, I was asked to teach a course on Dreamweaver MX, which is about seven years old. In many ways, I was pleasantly surprised, because there is a great deal of continuity in Dreamweaver. Although I missed the features that I now use on a daily basis, the older version was reassuringly familiar.
The real issue is the quality and skill of the instructor. To get the most out of Dreamweaver, you need a solid understanding of HTML and CSS. If the instructor simply goes through the motions of teaching you what the various bits and pieces of Dreamweaver do, it will be a waste of time. It will also be a waste of time if the course teaches you old-fashioned techniques, such as table-based layout, and using "layers" (AP Divs) for layout. The difference in versions of Dreamweaver, in short, is the least of your concerns.

  • How to use CS4 extention on CS3?

Is there any way we can use these extension for CS3 or they are designed only for CS4?
If they are designed only for CS4 wht should a person do who has already bought CS3?
Extension like Lightbox, Thickbox, Flash Gallery etc

Some extensions can be installed in previous versions. If you've tried to install them and you can't install them (getting a message that CS4 or higher is required or similar message), then you can't install them into CS3. Of course upgrading is an option, but if that's not good for you for whatever reason, then what you can do is to add the code to your page/site manually rather than via the extension. Some extensions are based upon open source JavaScript libraries and have downloads with instructions. I'm sure that Lightbox and Thickbox are available in that way, just search for them on Google.

  • How do I get a Connect Training Course to update my Captivate Presentation Version?

I am using a presentation with quiz created in Adobe Captivate 5.  I am using this as a online training course on Adobe Connect.  I published the first two versions, which are reflected in user reports in Connect.
However, I have made some important changes to the Captivate Presentation, and have published them to the Adobe Connect Server in the correct location. On the connect Admin page, it shows the updated version date/time for creation and uploading.  But when I have someone go to take the course, it is still the previous version that gets loaded.
How do I force or get the most updated version to be used on Connect?

It could be a 'caching' issue with the browser....so easy first check is to clear your browser cache then load Connect and the link again... Still not correct?
Then only thing I can suggest is you post the question to the Connect discussion group (as I don't know much at all about file management in Connect....)

  • OPENING CS4 FILES IN CS3

Is there any way to open up CS4 files in CS3? If not, would I be able to just cut and paste from CS4 to CS3? Thanks.

From CS4, export the file in INX format. Then you can open it in CS3 (assuming you have the most recent update of CS3). Of course, you lose anything you've created using CS4 features, so examine it carefully.

  • Training course recommendations in UK?

    Hi,
Firstly, I'm aware this probably isn't the best place to be posting about training course, but didn't rally think it fitted anywhere else.
My company have asked if I would like to go on a Web Development course. Obviously I said YES!
But now I am tasked with working out what would be the most useful things to learn and where?
I would class myself as a great graphic designer / beginner to better than average web designer. The type of things they would like my to be able to implement is online surveys, gather customer information, customer databases and so forth. Basically I would be implementing the marketing departments, well, marketing!
So I thought I should be looking at PHP & SQL? Maybe some XML? What would others say? Also I'm looking for a reliable company, any suggestions?
Ideally in the Bristol, Gloucestershire or Birmingham area, however London would be fine.

I'm the instructor for the Dreamweaver CS4 - Getting Started three-day course offered by Highlander (http://highlander.co.uk), an Adobe authorized training centre. I normally teach at Highlander's training centre in London, but also do training off base (in February, I taught a course in Leeds). The course I teach is described as "designed for those with no previous experience of webpage / application development". As a result, it starts from the basics, but gets into quite advanced territory by the end of the three days, particularly if participants already have a reasonable knowledge of web development (as many of them do).
Highlander also offers a PHP/MySQL course. Although I specialize in PHP/MySQL, the course is not taught by me. However, Highlander has discussed the possibility of me doing a more advanced Dreamweaver course that includes PHP/MySQL. Offering such a course would depend on sufficient people signing up for it. You might want to ask your company to inquire about arranging such a course, even though it's not currently listed on the training schedule (the person to contact is the Managing Director, Andy Gardiner).
In case you don't know who I am, I'm an Adobe Certified Instructor for Dreamweaver and the author of a series of books on Dreamweaver, PHP, and MySQL (http://foundationphp.com).
Of course, there are other training companies in the UK that others might be able to recommend.

  • Downgrade Premiere Pro CS4 project to CS3 possible?

Is it possible to export a CS4 Premiere Pro project in such a way that it will open in CS3? Is there any neutral format such as InDesign's .inx format?

    Tam,
I rather doubt that you can do a direct transfer of a CS4 Project to CS3. Your only course might be to Export your CS4 to DV-AVI and Import that file. It will have all of edits in place, so you will not have the individual Clips. You can use the Razor, to "create" individual Clips, but you will NOT have Handles on these. You could eliminate all Transitions and then extend each individual Clip to include Handles, but you'll then need to re-set all Ins-n-Outs.
Now, you might get lucky. Whiled doing some testing for another user, I Opened his CS3 Encore file in Encore2, without even thinking - dang if it didn't work to about 90%. I think it would have worked 100% had I had his Assets and exact folder structure, but that was not what we were testing.
You might just try Importing the .prproj file into CS3 and X-your fingers. As I started, I would NOT expect this to work, but who knows. If it does, even to a degree, please report back, as this is a common question with each new release.

  • Question for Anyone Using CS4 Production Premium with Windows 7

I'm testing Windows 7 at home with CS3 Production Premium and have not had any issues. Of course CS4 is quite a bit different.
Anyone using CS4 Production Premium on Windows 7 regularly? Any issues to report?
    Thanks

Thanks for replying to my post:

"I notice that when I open an old CS4 project and PPro asks you to locate the file, that the "show only exact file name" tick box seems to have no effect.
This is on Windows 7 RC 64bit."
On our systems at work that have XP and Vista + CS4 Production Premium.  I've noticed this with preview files in particular and possibly some others, I don't remember. The "show only exact file" checkbox is greyed out. This is somewhat annoying because projects can have a huge number of preview files with long  cryptic names making it a pain to locate the correct one manually to get the ball rolling. If I don't think it'll take too long to re-render, I just select "skip preview files".
We bought 3 licenses for Windows 7 and I'm encouraged by the performance, reliability and features on my home test system (RC 64) that has CS3 installed. Can't wait to get rid of XP and Vista.

  • How can I edit a CS4 doc in CS3?

A client's sent me an InDesign CS4 doc to edit and then return back to them. I have CS3 and can't open it because it needs me to install loads of plugins or upgrade to CS4. CS4 is no longer available. If I buy CS5, and edit it using CS5, the client using CS4 won't be able to open it. Any solutions?

Either have them exprt the file to .inx for you (not ideal) or download the CS4 trial and use it for 30 days and make sure you finish in that time. You can get that here: Download Adobe CS4 and CS3 Free Trials Here (incl. After Effects) | ProDesignTools
Make sure you follow the directions on that page TO THE LETTER or it won't work.

  • CS4 upgrade from CS3

    Hallo,
Hope this is the right place to post this.
I have Encore CS3 installed now. I am not sure if it is worth for me to upgrade to CS4.
I mostly use the flash export to web from encore. Will I get much more in this function in CS4 compared to CS3?
I tried to install the trial, but apparently only Premiere works as trial :-(
    Thanks in advance.
    /Ulf

    >I mostly use the flash export to web from encore. Will I get much more in this function in CS4 compared to CS3
It all depends on what you mean by "much" more, but yes, I think so.
You get a much larger selection of output settings for Flash, including several widescreen resolutions, and you can export streaming video for use if you have a Flash Media Server (Encore CS3 can only export progressive download). You can also choose to export F4V (H.264 for for higher quality video, but requiring Flash Player 10 - Encore CS3 only exports FLV) It's also easier to set a link to a web page than it was in Encore CS3.
If these features aren't very important to you, then little else has changed in Encore CS4 Flash export.

  • Add participant to a training course after course follow-up?

Scenario - training course (business event) has been completed and the 'follow-up' action has taken place.           An additional course participant was found to have completed the training course and therefore needs to be added.     I have added the additional participant to the course via the normal 'book' process in LSO_PSV1.   However I cannot find a way to do the follow-up for the additional person - the fields are greyed out and am unable to mark the 'Confirmed', 'Passed' etc fields.   Without completing the follow up for the additional person, the training course will not be recorded in their training history, and they will not receive the qualification associated with the course.      Regards Paddy M

    Hi Paddy
Though the fields are greyed out, select all functionality would allow you to change the values in the second screen. However, it could lead to changing the data of other employees since the system allows only to select all participants. Hence, i have suggested other solution :-).
Anyways, good to hear that your problem is solved for adding a participant to followed up course. Did you think about cancelling a participant from followed up course? in such case you may have to remove the imparted qualification automatically. FYI, you can use BADI LSO_CHECK_BOOKING with method cancellation for this purpose.
    Hope this is useful.
    Best Regards

  • What additional resources are required to do the TestStand training courses I and II?

I have the TestStand course manuals for courses I and II and am currently trying to refresh what I learned a couple of months ago when I took the courses.  I'm at the point where almost every VI required comes up broken because additional libraries are required in LabVIEW.  Why aren't the additional required libraries listed in the course documentation?  What are the additional libraries and how do I get them?

    Hi there!
If I had to guess I would say that you're missing the TS support API libraries for LabVIEW... Since those are the only 'special' libraries used by any of the examples in the TestStand 3.x or 4.x training manuals.
I'm going to assume that you have some recent version of LabVIEW (8.x?) and some recent version of TestStand (3.x) installed? Unless you took the NI training course more than a few years ago, in which case you might need earlier version of TS, LabVIEW version really shouldn't matter. Evaluation copies ought to be sufficient so I wouldn't blame those...
(If you don't have LabVIEW at all. Make sure you have the correct LabVIEW Run Time Engine version, as that's a pretty common source of TS errors... But without LabVIEW half of the exercises in the training manual are moot anyway...)
In your LabVIEW install path, (C:\ program files etc...\LabVIEW 8.x\)  look for the folder path "vi.lib\addons\TestStand\", it ought to be full of a few *.llb files that TS would furnish to LabVIEW when the product is installed.  Sometimes when you install things in an unexpected order, or if you have multiple LVs installed, these items don't get put where you expect.
If the folder is empty, copy what you need from... the TestStand install path (C:\ program files etc...\TestStand x.x\) folder "AdapterSupport\LabVIEW" and restart LV. This might get you up and running.
If the folder is not empty. Try running a MassCompile from your LabVIEW Tools ->Advanced menu, there might be a version incompatibility issue...
Feel free to send me an email if you're still stuck. But there aren't any external dependencies/hardware drivers needed for the TS training sequences...
    Cheers!

  • Cannot open CS4 inx in CS3

Ive have been trying unsuccesfully to save CS4 back to CS3 and nothing will open. I've even created dummy files with nothing more than a box on the page and they still don't open. CS3 will begin to open them, flash the file up and then it just dissapears.
    Running CS4 6.0.0.352
    Running CS3 5.04.682
    Mac OS X 10.411
I've tried converting fonts to outlines also to no avail. I also installed on another machine (G5) with the same result.
Any thoughts? I really need to find a way to get this to work. Most of the work I do is VDP and none of those plug ins are working in CS4 yet. Data Merge is not working properly in 4 yet to my knowledge either. Most of my work is too large for Data Merge anyway but I would rather have it as an option at least.

    10.6.8
Have a client that prepares a CS4 inx file from my CS3 doc after she makes changes. Never an issue. Can't open hers today in CS3.
    Plugin error message:
"Use one or more plugins not available, blah, blah"
    These are listed:
    Conditional Text.IndesignPlugin
    WorldReady.IndesignPlugin
Says to update my plugins in next box and lists virtually all of them.
I can create CS3 inx files and open them no problem. Tried disabled 3rd party plugins, no change,
Corrupt file from her? A recent CS4 update that might have broken it? My CS3 is current

  • Sony EX1 files - import ok in CS4 but not CS3 - why?

    hi all
I've hired a Sony EX1 for the weekend, and CS3 (version 3.2 with EX support) will not import the video files - it gives an error message and teh files are nowhere to be seen.
I have looked online in various places and the general consensus seems to be that if you import the entire folder and then, although you still get the "unsupported or damaged file" error message, the files should show up ok.
    They don't. Not in CS3.
In CS4, the import works fine (although I still ghet the error message). The problem is, I find CS4 totally unstable, and unless massively successful patches are introduced, I will never work with it again (it cost me hundreds, maybe thousands of pounds n written-off editing time the only time I used it, because of constant crashes both on my laptop and my Dell system, and it still crashes regularly on the rare occasions I use it). I much prefer to work in CS3 which I found comparatively stable.
How come CS3 can't import the EX1 files, when everywhere I am look on the internet tells me it can?
Would be grateful to hear from anyone else who's had this problem .
    thks a lot

Be sure you use the Sony XDCam EX Clip Browser software to import the footage, as opposed to drag & drop the folders/clips.
Theoretically, you should be able to just D&D the BPAV folder, but there have been reports of wierd problems doing it that way.
I've used the EX with CS3 a lot, with no problems, but I always import with the Sony software..
RE CS4- what OS and how much RAM do you have? 32 bit/3-4GB is touch & go for CS4 HD editing; 64 bit/ 12-16GB is magic.
    Good luck

  • CS4 better than CS3 for Leopard?

    Hi,
I've been having some trouble with Adobe CS3 (especially Photoshop) on Apple OS X Leopard. Does anyone have experience with CS4 on this platform, and if so, is it better in terms of compatibility and/or memory management? Or is it just a bunch of new features? I would really like improved stability for my Adobe software.

"keep in mind that many of the people that have responded are not running Leopard so they are just repeating rumors they have heard on this forum." - that's not the case, I am running Leopard using CS4. Main issues are slightly carelessly put together compatability between the OS and the CS4 Application Frame, and windows. Otherwise everything is roughly Ok. There are some hard drive usage issues too, with Occasional crashes during heavy scratch activity - and these
may be Leopard related issues. I use CS4 about 80% of the time.
Check your graphics card is compatible as Jim said, although you can still use CS4 very well with Open GL turned off if you need.

  • Installing photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite

    Hi,
I would like to install photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite on the same drive.
Is it possible?  Should I uninstall photoshop cs3 (not extended) from the drive first?
Should I use the WinCS4Cleanupscript before I do that.
I dont want to uninstall the whole suite cs3.
    Thanks for your advises

CS3 will co-exist quite happily on your computer with CS4.
Do not remove it until you are completely satisfied with the new version!
There is absolutely no need for the clean script at this point. It is only to clear up after messed up un-installs.
