Using D-Link Wireless G USB Adapter - help?

I purchased this today to work with my older iBook (900MHz G3) whose Airport card was swapped out to replace our Emac's one which failed a while ago.
I managed to install and connect to the wireless network on which our other two Macs are successfully connected, but I couldn't connect to the internet, nor was the older iBook picking up a valid IP address from the DCHP server. I tried every thing I could think of - restarted the Airport Base station, the ADSL modem, the iBook itself numerous times. I tried assigning a manual IP address, and putting all network information in manually too. Nothing worked. I also made sure the iBook was running on the power cord, not the battery - made no difference.
I also tried disabling the WEP security - that didn't work either. I should say that when I assigned a manual IP address in the 10.0.1.x range, Network Status claimed it was connected to the internet - Network Diagnostics and the browsers all disagreed and refused to load any pages.
I've now read bad things here about the D-Link USB devices but before I take this thing back to the shop, I'd just like to give it one last chance - if anyone has successfully used it to connect to their wireless network. I can't exactly say it doesn't work since it detected the network, but unless it connects to the internet too, it's useless.

Will it work with an older (G3) iBook? I've read Linksys don't support Macs - is the bridge actually driver free?
The thing is with this D-link dongle - it's working. I even got peer-to-peer connection just fine with my other laptop. I just can't connect to the network and I can't see how's that a fault with the equipment per se - except the Airport cards manage it just fine. Visiting friends with PCs have this problem from time to time too. I wish I knew what caused it.

Hello.....I just recently bought a linksys WRT150N router and am having problems connecting a computer that uses a Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB Adapter. This computer's operating system is windows 2000 and it cannot find the network I setup.....Even when I double checked that the router was in mixed mode.....Can anybody help?

I am having a similar problem with my WUSB54GC adapter connecting to my WRT54G router 100 feet away with only a single stud wall in between.  Sometimes the computer connects automatically and sometimes I have to restart windows or use the repair connection wizard to get the computer to connect.  Using Windows XP and Mixed infrastructure network with SSID broadcasting disabled.

    Proc: AMD
    OS:  Windows XP Pro
Since the nstallation both of the PC are crashing (BlueScreen) quite often. This was an rare event befre these devices were nstalled.
Crash seem to have been causedby
    ms6823.sys or NDIS .
This becoming annoyace and may resut in damaged har drive/ Loss of data. And MSI is not getting good reputation.
Help from any souce FORUM members and/ or MSI staff WILL BE greaely pprecaited.

    Hi everyone,
I also encountered the same problem or even worst.
    Here are the details below.
    System:
Intel S875WP1-E entry serverboard latest bios P14.
    Intel Pentium4 3.06 Ghz
    2x 256MB DDR
    2x 120GB Seagate SATA HDD - RAID1
    1x 40X CDROM
    1x Generic floppy
Windows XP Professional + SP1 + security patch.
    1x UB11B Wireless 11b USB Adapter (ms 6823).
    Drivers tried:
Original drivers came with the CD.
    Latest from MSI support site.
As long as the UB11B is physically connected to the server and regardless it is hook up to an AP or not, the system will just go to BSOD without any reason. And this will happen just within 15 minutes
When server crashes, I always need to rebuild my array. I also encountered the same error as the NDIS.sys but not all the time. And sometimes other xxxxxx.sys files.
Alternatively, I used Intel PRO/Wireless 2011B LAN USB device. And it was working perfectly.
Can anyone from MSI support provide some inputs.  We really can not use this MSI UB11B on this server.
Maybe there's any beta driver or firmware that we can use for this BSOD problem. We will be glad to try it.
    Thanks,
    George

  • LinkSys Wireless-N USB Adapter

I just purchased a LinkSys Wireless-N USB Adapter (WUSB300N), and I was wondering how to get it to work with Mac OS X 10.4.10? I have searched the LinkSys site and Google for drivers for this product, but none have been made. I was also wondering, if my product does not work with Mac, if there is any other wireless USB adapter that is compatible with Mac OS X?

If it needs to be USDB, this is the only one I found...

  • How to use a high power wireless-n usb adapter

I recently purchased a kinamax high power wireless-n USB 2.0 adapter to boost my wifi signal. The data range is 802.11n. The only problem is that I can't use the adaptor. The box says that the supported OS is MAC OS X. But when I connect the adapter nothing happens. There is not even sign that the USB adapter is connected. Can anyone help me?

    Hi Kelvin,
I understand that you want to control pins on your serial port using LabVIEW. Since you are using Windows XP, only LabVIEW version 7.0 will be able to control the pins. The pins can be controlled by modifying the values of the access registers that windows associates with each pin. If you are using LabVIEW 7.0, then the VI's located on the Funtions >> Advanced >> Port I/O palette should help you assign values to the proper pins.

  • Using printer as wireless and USB cable hook-up:

I have a HP 4502 e all- in-one printer and I want to use it with my old computer with a USB connection and my laptop with a wireless connection. Can I do this without having to disconnect my USB cable to my old computer?

    Hi,
YES you can have both USB and wireless connection for the same printer. For this you have to install the software on both the computers. For your laptop connect it wirelessly and for your desktop connect it through the USB cable.

  • Using Apple Pro Speakers with MacBookPro - Adapter Help???

I just got a brand new MBP which is awesome! I am having a lot of fun with it.
However a real bummer I noticed is my old Apple Pro Speakers would not connect into my MBP jack. I have done some initial research on this and it seems like the only way to have them connect is get an adapter, Griffin iFire? I looked into that a little and unless I missed something that product isn't being made anymore.
Can anyone offer any other links / ideas on how I get get these speakers to work? They worked great on my G4 and have an iSub so I would hate to not be able to use them anymore and have to outlaw more money for newer speakers.
    Thanks again for any help!!!

The iFire adapter by Griffin did the trick, and it works like a charm. Although the iFire is no longer being manufactured, you can still find them on eBay or through some online computer retailers. Thanks everyone for their help.

  • D-Link DBT-120 USB adapter needs new firmware update from Apple

I purchased a new DBT-120 USB/Bluetooth adapter for use with my iBook (Clamshell). unfortunately, it's not allowing connections to headsets as I intended.
I have a DBT-120 B1 at home which works fine with my headset but that adapter worked only after updating the firmware with Apple's updater.
unfortunately, the firmware updater will not recognise my new DBT-120 which is a C1.
Apple, please update the firmware updater for the new C1... soon!
has anyone else written a firmware updater for the DBT-120 adapters so that headsets can be used with OS X?
    regards,
    Gregory

    I have the same problem w/ my DBT-120 v. C1
I tried installing bluetooth firmware 1.2 and Bluetooth Firmware Updater gives me the error:
"This Bluetooth device is not supported
This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."
I also tried installing version 1.2.1 but during installation that gave me the error: "This update is not needed on this computer."
I have an iMac Intel Core 1 Duo 17" that will hopefully support the headset when it finishes charging, but I would like to be able to use it on the go too.

  • Wireless(g) USB Adapter

Can anyone recommend a USB dongle that will work with OSX10.4? I would like to share my wifi with my G3 iBook and can't find much on this subject, surprisingly.

The USB wireless adapters require you to install drivers. These drivers are usually only compatible with some versions of the Mac OS and are prone to failure if you change the configuration of your Mac.
So, I recommend something that works 100% of the time instead of something that is cheap and will cause frustration.

  • Dell wireless 1450 wireless usb adapter

Hello, I recently bought the airport extreme and can get connected fine with my macbook, but when I try to connect the Dell PC using the Dell wireless 1450 usb adapter I can´t find the network, eventhough it finds other networks. I have tried with not having password protection and still nothing. would be great if anyone had a solution to this problem, thx in advance Kolmodin!

further info: wireless windows configuration is on, advanced settings set to any avialable network and nonpreffered net on auto, powersaves off, ap's us a ssid but are not encrypted no wep, ap's have to be added to the wireless networks via the properties of the network connection and when the signal is dropping it loses the wireless networks tab in this menu as well.

  • OS X driver for Airlink AWLL6070 wireless USB adapter?

Is there any one know the Driver for Lion and SL for Airlink wireless AWLL6070 USB adapter.  Airlink web site does not show any Mac driver support.  I use this adapter in window and it works fine. I want to use it on Mac too.

    kappy,
just like you mentioned, the driver did not work.  I force my lion boot into 32-bit mode but it didn't work as well.  I look at the /var/log/install
    "PKLeopardPackage <file://localhost/Users/john/Downloads/MAC-airlink-awll5077/10.6/Installer.pkg# rtl8192sus.pkg>"
    It was installing rtl8192sus.pkg
I believe it is driver for realtek chip.
I somehow spot in system profile that airlink awll6070's manufacture chip is Ralink.
    802.11 n WLAN:
      BSD Name:          en4
      Product ID:          0x3c27
      Vendor ID:          0x14b2
      Version:          1.01
      Serial Number:          1.0
      Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec
      Manufacturer:          Ralink
      Location ID:          0x1d110000 / 4
      Current Available (mA):          500
      Current Required (mA):          450
I search ralink.com and found that there is a driver for mac.
    http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3
I download and install 10.6 version of driver on Lion. well, it seems to work now.
I forced my system to boot into 32-bit because one of the driver did not work in 64-bit mode.
I will give it a try to boot into 64-bit mode to see if it work.

  • Powermac G4 and Wireless USB Adapter

    Hi
I have upgraded my Powermac G4  Dual 450 to OSX 10.4.9 (10.5 still won't go on even with Leopard Assist?). Anyway, I bought a USB adapter to try to connect to the internet (Lm Technologies 802.11N 150Mbps Fast Wireless NANO USB Adapter). Does anyone know how I set this up? It appears as a choice under Ethernet in the Network settings under System preferences but I have no idea what settings to use. The disc with the drivers only has info on how to get it running in Windows. I did go back to the seller but as yet no response.
As for Leopard, I still get what I always got when trying to install. The grey box with the multilingual message telling you to shut the machine down plus lots of text over the top. Without booting it up I remember the last line says 'we're hanging in there'. Not sure if it is an open firmware message or something. The general theme is one of 'this isn't going to work'.
    Thanks
    Phil.

That gray box with various languages is a kernel panic.
You have hardware that is incompatible with the Leopard software that you are using.
Whether the issue is the Leopard disc is not retail (gray, OEM disc), or, if you have incompatible third party hardware installed, only you know.

  • How to get wireless usb adapter linksys working to get on internet?

Hi, does anybody know any general way to get my linksys wireless g usb adapter to work on Solaris 10? I plug it in and nothing happens. This is a question
Edited by: Usulyre on Nov 4, 2007 9:56 PM

A general option would be to search the HCL on bigadmin.com and buy/swap/barter for a supported adapter.
Another option is to switch to OpenSolaris and search the aforementioned opensolaris community for supported hardware and then buy/swap/barter for supported hardware.
