Using DB9 as a remote?

Hello Everyone,
I have a quick and (hopefully) simple question about DB9 controllers.  I would like to have a DB9 connect into a Leybold Turbo Controller 700.  I was told by the company that although the back of the box looked DB9, it establishes and tells the controller to start/stop based on electrical signals, not really transmit/receive connections.  I was told the following:
Pin 7- 12V
pin 6- GND
pin 8- Start/Stop Signal (power 8 b/t 11-26V for system to start; remove power and it should stop)
3 & 4 are common
My main question is this: If I plug my DB9 straight cable into my computer and the control box, is there a capability to assign voltages to particular pins or is this difficult/impossible to do?  Should I be building some sort of relay using a NI DAQ?  What does everyone recommend?  Thank you.  Below is a pin picture I beleive, but I received these details from the company and wanted to ask this question on the side.

The DB9 that is on your computer is an RS-232 port.  It will NOT do what you want.
What I would do is find a Digital IO card from NI and make it control a relay.  The relay will apply whatever voltage you want to the pin 8 or disconnect the voltage (when off).

  • How to use my apple tv remote on my macbook?

    Hello, I have an Macbook pro 15 inch retina from 2013 (model number A 1398) and I want to use my apple tv remote on my macbook. But it won't work. When I look on the internet, they say I have to go to system preference -> security and privacy and then you can find your infrared but mine don't show the infrared.
    So can somebody help me to use my remote on my macbook please?

    I do not believe that the newer Mac's support this. You should look at the front bezel and see if it has an IR sensor. If it does, follow the instructions here:

  • Will an Infra-Red Adapter work with a macbook pro retina display so I can use the apple TV remote for presentations?

    I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations.  I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote.  Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display?  Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection.  Im looking for  a remote that worked like the apple TV remote.  My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac.  I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter.  It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good.  Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

  • How to prevent others use their iDevices to remote control apple tv?

    Hi All,
    I'm wondering that does anyone know how to prevent others use their iDevices to remote control my apple tv?
    settings
    1. the apple tv is in the school.
    2. all students could access the Internet
    3. The apple tv is sharing the same Internet with students.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    The remote app uses homesharing, therefore anyone wanting to control an Apple TV with the remote app would need to know the home sharing ID and password.

  • TS2972 How can I stop iTunes on my computer to start whenever I use the Apple TV remote to select a new program?

    Whenever I use the Apple TV remote to choose a new program, iTunes starts on my computer and starts playing from the playlist. How do I prevent that from happening?

    Your computer is picking up the remote's signal. Go into system preferences - security - general. Click on the padlock and go into advanced. Check disable remote control infrared receiver.

  • I want to buy an Apple TV device but I need to be sure of its benefits. I have contracted a Satellite TV. Is it true that if I connect Apple TV to system, I can watch TV through IPad wherever by using wireless and App Remote

    I want to buy an Apple TV device but I need to be sure of its benefits. I have contracted a Satellite TV. Is it true that if I connect Apple TV to system, I can watch TV in my IPad wherever by using wireless and App Remote??

    If you have an iPad 2 you can wirelessly mirror it to your TV via the ATV device. If you have an iPad 1 then you can use airplay but not all apps are enabled to push video, as the developer needs to do this.
    You can also view all local content from iTunes or your iPad, pushed via airplay/home-sharing.
    The other services available are iTunes movie rentals, TV shows (past purchases viewable from the cloud), Photo Stream, Netflix, Vimeo, Podcasts, Youtube, Sports etc.

    No, the iPad has no IR receiver. (I think you mean "Airplay" and not "Airdrop", by the way.)

  • How to recognize if application is installed using "Install Application on Remote Desktop" option on Windows Server 2008 R2

    How to recognize if application is installed using "Install application on remote desktop..." option in Control Panel in Windows Server 2008 R2?
    Basically, as administrator, I can't say if the user installed application using "Install application on remote desktop..." in Control Panel or he just installed it by clicking the .msi executable. I can't find anything that makes any difference.
    I could not find anything in the registry. I am quite confused.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Please make sure that you are using category view of control panel-programs to check the application. And in addition to “install application on Remote Desktop server” user can also use command line also.
    change user /install
    change user /execute
    change user /query
    “The first time you run the application, it searches the home directory for its .ini files. If the .ini files are not found in the home directory, but are found in the system directory, Terminal Services copies the .ini files to the home directory, ensuring
    that each user has a unique copy of the application .ini files. Each user should have a unique copy of the .ini files for an application. This prevents instances where different users might have incompatible application configurations.” (Quoted formthis
    article).
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks,

  • How do i use the apple tv remote app to navigate the apple tv?

    Hi everyone,
    I've been given an apple tv remote from my step father. I couldn't honestly tell you which model I'm afraid. He's lost the remote.
    I've managed to get the apple tv turned on using a youtube that explaned how to set up with an ethernet cable. I can even airplay stuff from my itunes. However I want to pair my existing remote and I can't work out for the life of me how I use the apple tv remote app to navigate whilst on the apple tv main menu.
    There's just no option to do this, despite the youtube vid seemingly doing it. Has a previous update of the app rendered this featured obselete?
    Some clarity or help on how I can navigate the apple tv using either my iphone or macbook would be great. That way I can pair my existing tv remote for future use.
    Thanks everyone in advance!
    James Wright

    Purchase a replacement remote.
    The remote is required for configuring the ATV and setting up the remote app on iDevices.

  • Trying to update my ipod software so I can use my Bose Sounddock remote

    Hi,
    I have a 30 GB 5th Gen ipod that is running Version 1.2, apparently I need version 2.2 to use my Bose Sounddock remote. After searching the Apple website to find a way to download version 2.2, Apple kept bringing me back to the latest itunes 7 download which is supposed to alert you to any ipod updates. So I have downloaded itunes 7 which tells me my ipod is updated with version 1.2. How can I get 2.2 on my ipod?
    I notice other people are having similar problems with no solutions, thought I would give it another try, any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Jessica
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Version 2.2 of the software is designed for a different model of iPod, most likely the third generation models, and is older than your model of iPod. The current version of the iPod software for your model is version 1.21; if the remote doesn't work with this version, you probably can't use it with your iPod.
    The version numbers are determined relative to the release of the original iPod for first through fourth generation full-size models, and relative to the release of the first iPod with that product name for other iPods, including the iPod photos.

    hi all,

    do I need to install SEM-BCS in order to use this DataSource? Can I just install BCS component only?
    I am slightly confused as where SEM-BCS should be installed, on BI or ECC system?

  • RMI -How to use JFileChooser to see remote computer FileSystem

    i hav made a program in RMI which uses JFileChooser to show remote-machine File System. i have made my own FileSyatemView class (MyFileSyatemViewClient which extends FileSystemView) and override all the methods of FileSystemView Except getFileSystemView.
    Similarly i have made my own FileView(MyFileViewClient).
    i fed these to the JFileChooser. And object of JFileChooser i am recieving from the server through remote method getFileChooser(). Thus the code is like:
                             MyFileSystemViewClient mfsvc; //Defined Globally
                             MyFileViewClient mfvc; //Defined Globally
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)

    // "fi" is the FileInterface through which we access server-side methods.
                                  jfc.setFileSystemView(mfsvc);

                             return null;
    //.....................................................End of the MyFileSystemViewClient.......................
    Thus each method in the class MyFileViewClient brings the required information from the server. BUT we are getting two problems:
    1) so many folders at the server-side are shown as files in the dialogbox.
    2)dialog box shows all "folders of the desktop" of the local filesystem and some more "local drives without any name". when i click a folder in the dialog box which is on my local machine, nothing happens. they are just the icon with the name but don't show the content. although i can easily see the drives of the remote filesystem and browse through except for the problem stated above at no.1.
    ok guys now its your turn to speak up.....
    plz give some suggestions and comments..
    ciao!!

    sry to all friends there who can't read the code clearly. as per the suggestion i am putting the code afresh..
    the main client class which binds to the server contains following piece of code :
    MyFileSystemViewClient mfsvc; //Defined Globally
    MyFileViewClient mfvc; //Defined Globally
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
         if(ae.getActionCommand().equals("Open"))
              mfsvc = new MyFileSystemViewClient();
              mfvc = new MyFileViewClient();
              try
                   JFileChooser jfc=fi.getFileChooser();//Requesting JFileChooser object from server.
                   // "fi" is the FileInterface through which we access server-side methods.
                   jfc.setFileSystemView(mfsvc);
                   jfc.setFileView(mfvc);
                   int retval = jfc.showOpenDialog(null);
                   if(retval==JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
                   getf = jfc.getSelectedFile();
              catch(Exception e)
              System.out.println("Error Occurred In OPEN :"+e);
    }i again like to convey that, "fi" is the FileInterface through which we access server-side methods.
    MyFileSystemViewClient class looks as :
    public class MyFileSystemViewClient extends FileSystemView
                   public MyFileSystemViewClient()
