Using DHCP with a cFP-20XX across a different subnet

I have a cFP-2010 that will work great when set up with a static IP or DHCP as long as it is on the same subnet. If I set it for DHCP then move it to a different subnet, MAX can no longer find it. Do I have to use a static IP when going across subnets, or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks,
Steve

Selmore,
Not 100% sure this will work for FieldPoint controllers, but for some
other NI controllers (e.g. CompactRIO) if you give a name to the
controller in MAX and set it to use DHCP, then when its IP address is
assigned by the DHCP server its name is registered as a DNS name. That
means you can use that name to communicate to it from a different
subnet. By using ping commands you should be able to demonstrate if
this works for FieldPoint or not; I believe it should.
Hope my answer is clear enough and helps.

  • I'm hooked up to the ethernet using DHCP with manual address. It's running (green) but my internet (Safari, messenger, email) doesn't work! Help!

I'm running an iMac with Mountain Lion. Not only do we do accounting work on this computer with AccountEdge, but the computer functions as a server to another computer in a different state.
Anyway, I set a static IP address (Using DHCP with manual address) on it (to allow for a VPN to the computer in the different state) and it is connected (green dot) - meaning that the other computer in the different state can connect to us via that ethernet line - but for some reason Safari, Messanger, and Apple Email won't work.
But if I switch a dynamic IP (DHCP auto), I can use the internet (Safari, messanger, email), but the computer in the different state can't connect to this computer.
How can I fix this so that the computer in the different state can connect to this computer and that the internet (Safari, messanger, and email) can work at the same time?
    Much thanks!

No but if they are using a VPN Tunnel for the connection that restricts all internet traffic over the tunnel. Which means you can't use that same computer to broswe the internet or connect to other computers or devices on your LAN.
I'd need to see the actual setup, router and the IP addresses you are using.
Networking and remote networking is fairly easy when you are in front of the systems you are working on. Doing it over the internet on a forum is almost impossible. Tha is why I suggested you get local help, like the person that originally set it up.

  • Leopard : Network : Unable to use DHCP with manual address.

After installing Leopard on my Macmini (PowerPC 1.42Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD), I found my IP address obtains different IP address than Panther and Tiger use. Then I go into System Preferences -> Network -> select Ethernet -> select "Using DHCP with manual address" in the "Configure" combo box, and change the IP address from 192.168.0.8 to 192.168.0.100. Once I hit apply, the network connection never comes back. There is no complaint that another computer is using the 192.168.0.100 IP address. This works if I am using Panther or Tiger on the same computer.
    Any help is appreciated.

Setting the DHCP to a number you want to use can be very useful in a busy environment. I usually choose to use numbers that are outside of the range of numbers being controlled by my router (Westell).
Port Forwarding for services like ARD, Azureus, or any server application break when the IP number changes for any reason.
Some routers will not allow numbers outside of a restricted range of numbers that can be set up in the router configuration menu's. In this case, I find out if the router is assigning numbers from the high or low end and make sure I assign numbers at the opposite end of the range.
My Westell router does allow me to use numbers other than the range of 50 numbers it has been told to use for DHCP, but I have also encountered problems when trying this on a wireless connection.

  • Unable to connect to internet using DHCP with WRT54G behind ISA 2004

    Hello,
For starters, the Linksys WRT54G is located behind the ISA 2004 Sever firewall. The gateway for the LAN and internet segment is set at 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 for the WLAN segment on the ISA box. All the proper network rules and access rules have been created. If I set the adapter card on the lap top with a static IP, e.g. ip address as 192.168.2.3, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.2.1 and primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 the lap top can connect to the internet through the WLAN segment. At this point the WRT54G is set for internet connection type as automatic configuration DHCP, local IP address as 192.168.2.2 subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and DHCP server disabled
When using DHCP on the WRT54G by enabling it and setting the Starting IP address to 192.168.2.3, I cannot connect to the internet. When using the CMD prompt and doing a ipconfig /all this is the result
    I get       DHCP enabled: yes
                   Autoconfiguration Enabled: yes
                 IP Address: 192.168.2.3
                   Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
                   Default Gateway: 192.168.2.2
                   DHCP Server: 192.168.2.2
                   DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
Is it possible to configure the WRT54G so that the default gateway can be set? Each time I change the Local IP address of the WRT54G e.g. 192.168.2.10, the default gateway gets the same IP address.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karl

In the 54g, setup an extra route to the other default gateway.
    ie; route 192.168.2.2 mask 255.255.255.2 gate 192.168.2.1

  • WRT610N incorrect DNS setup using DHCP with 1.00.03.15

I just noticed this last night and probably could explian my poor network performance since upgrading to firmware 1.00.03.15.
All of my computers using DHCP, both wired and wireless, Vista & Linux, show DNS1 as 192.168.1.1 or the routers IP address.  I know that 1.00.03.15 fixed a DNS vulernability, but I can't believe this is by design.  Looks like another bug to me.
I reverted back to 1.00.2.10 for now, problem goes away.  Hopefully the performance will improve.
    Anyone else experience this?

Spoke too soon.  Firmware 1.00.02.10 also experiences incorrect DNS setup when using DHCP.  I upgraded back to 1.00.03.15 and set the static DNS ip address on the main router setup page.  Seems to be working.  Hopefully Time Warner doesn't change there DNS ip address that often.

  • Can ARD 3 now share a screen across 2 different subnets

We have one central office. Clients access that office via a VPN. We can then share our screen with them as we work on a proof of a project.
It's a great solution, however, we can't with ARD 2.2 get it to work with two clients at once over the VPN.
An old Kbase article said that it wasn't possible to route screen sharing to two different subnets in the 2.2 version. But rather required all clients be on the same subnet.
Does anyone know or have the ability to test to see if this is different is 3.0. I'm hopeful that it is, as I can no longer find the old Kbase article saying that it wasn't possible.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Still no reply as to if this was resolved. I'm not so much worried about the move on the client side. As once we upgrade we have the luxury of upgrading everyone at once. I think that will be a smooth process.
However, our motivation to upgrade is dependant on wether or not the ability to route traffice over multiple subents is fixed or not. So we'll wait and see. If anyone can easily test this. I'd love to know. Sounds like a few other people are hoping to hear something as well.
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do I set up my AEv5 using DHCP with a Netgear DG834Gv5?

    Hi,
I've recently bought a MBPro and love it.
I then bought an Airport Extreme to extend my available Wi-Fi distance and increase its speed. It's good, but it's not currently set up as I'd like it to be.
    My kit...
    Netgear DG834v5 Modem/Wireless Router
    Apple Airport Extreme v5
Currently the AEv5 is set up in Bridge mode, with the wireless of the Netgear switched off completely. As I understand it, this makes the Netgear a wired modem, from which the AEv5 acts as the replacement (improved) Wi-Fi mast.
I want to change the AEv5 from Bridge mode to DHCP/DHCP+NAT for the following reasons...
    - I can then set up a 'guest' wi-fi network.
    - I can then see a full list of the devices interacting with my Wi-Fi signal and block any potential intrusions.
I don't know the implications of whether or not the AEv5 controlling the NAT is a good thing or not, so...
    - Can someone please explain the difference and benefits/drawbacks of the AEv5 controlling NAT as well as DHCP?
    I then need to know...
    - How I can turn off all DHCP/NAT/DHCP+NAT on the Netgear?
    - How I can set up the AEv5 to do the DHCP/NAT/DHCP+NAT itself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've spent hours searching the net already with no luck. I'm out of my depth and out of ideas; if someone knows anything that could help me it'd be great to hear it!
    Cheers!

Can't help with Netgear, since I have not used the device that you have there, but can offer a few thoughts about the AirPort Extreme.
Currently the AEv5 is set up in Bridge mode, with the wireless of the Netgear switched off completely. As I understand it, this makes the Netgear a wired modem, from which the AEv5 acts as the replacement (improved) Wi-Fi mast.
Correct. This makes the Netgear a wired modem/router, since it is also configured to handle DHCP and NAT services for the network.
    - Can someone please explain the difference and benefits/drawbacks of the AEv5 controlling NAT as well as DHCP?
If you want to enable the Guest Network, then the AirPort Extreme must be configured to provide DHCP and NAT services.
If you open AirPort Utility on your Mac, click on the AirPort Extreme icon, click Edit, then click the Network tab at the top of the screen, you will see that the AirPort Extreme is currently configured in a Router Mode of Bridge Mode.....which is the correct setting for the AirPort Extreme with your Netgear modem/router.
To make the AirPort Extreme provide DHCP and NAT service, you would change the setting for the Router Mode to DHCP and NAT.  But, do not do this....yet.
The DHCP only setting on the AirPort cannot be used if you want to enable the Guest Network. This setting is rarely used, and would only be required if your Intenet Service Provider is furnishing you with a bank of fixed IP addresses....usually 4 or 5......to use for your connection and devices.
    - How I can turn off all DHCP/NAT/DHCP+NAT on the Netgear?
Seems like that would be a question for Netgear support. It may....or may not....be possible to do this.
Even if you do this, there will be no guarantees that this setting will work correctly with AirPort Extreme.
But, before you consider doing this, it would be good idea to check with your Internet Service Provider to make sure that they will support this type of configuration.
I'm sure that you will agree that it would be of little value if you configured the Netgear device to turn off DHCP and NAT and function in Bridge Mode, and then had a connection issue....and your service provider refused to help you.
Perhaps your service provider has a simple modem that they could offer to you. That would work with the AirPort Extreme and you would not have to worry about trying to configure the Netgear to do something that it was not likely designed to do.

  • TS4268 How to use iMessage with 1 apple idea across 3 devices (iMac, 2 iPads)?

I am using iMessage across 3 devices with 1 apple id. This has worked sofar. Currently the iPad 3 refuses to accept the apple I'd. How can I solve this?

    Dear AnaMusic,
Actually it did not solve my problem. But I probably did not explain it correctly. I want all my devices to get the same messages. At home I have an Imac and an Ipad and then i use one ipad at work. They were set up with one Apple Id and used to work perfectly on that id. However suddenly the Ipad at work rejected the apple id  and I thus do not get any messages. The Imac also stays inactive. I have checked the apple id and nothing is wrong. It all works well. Except imessage no longer functions. Any suggestions?

As Dan says, that will work fine in most cases. All you have to do is tell TM via +Change Disk.+ You'll have two separate, independent sets of backups.
But, if you go several days (at least 10) and have a large volume of changes between "swaps," TM may do a full backup instead of an incremental one. That's probably what happened to Dan, and isn't a problem if your TM disk is big enough, and you do not have the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in TM Preferences > Options.

  • AP groups with same vlans , same ssid but different subnet.

    Hi Members,
I have a Cisco Flex 7500 in my datacenter and I need to connect 100 sites , each site with 2-3 APs , each side has its own network and is independent of other sites , the site only need to comunity locally and do not need to access any centralized applications.
I am trying to achieve this by Creating 100  different AP groups and assiging 2-3 AP in each groups for each branch, I will achieve WAN failover resiliency by creating flexconnect groug , the issue I am facing are as below .
1.Since all the sites has same setup , the AP and clients on all sites are in vlan 2 , so when I try to create 2 or more AP group with same vlan, it restricts me of doing so , I cannot create diffrent AP groups mapped to same Vlan .
2.If I keep the APs and Clients in the same subnet , I dont think it should be a problem , but I need your second opinion.
to give you an even better picture , look at the topology enclosed , and my question is if both STAFF and STUDENT APs are in same vlan but in 2 different broadcast domain , how would I create the AP groups.
    Thank you

Thanks for the reply Jenn , here is my situation.
I have 2 sites lets day , site A in virginia ,  site B in Maryland.
    SiteA - 10.1.1.0/24 - vlan 2
               10.1.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.1.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
    SiteB - 10.2.1.0/24 - vlan 2
               10.2.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.2.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
both the sites will have a single ssid "XYZ" and will switch locally only.
howin my understanding the way I will deploy this is as below
1.I will create WLAN with ssid "XYZ".
2.I will create 2 AP groups lets say "Site-A" and "Site-B"
3.I will map the APs in site A to AP group "Site-A" and APs in Site B to "Site-B"
4.I will create 2 dynamic interfaces one for each AP group , now this is where I am facing problem , when I am creating dynamin interfaces , I need to specify the subnet and vlans when creating dynamic interfaces , since the vlans used is same on both sites , its not letting me create 2 interfaces with same vlan id.
in my understanding HREAP is only majorly used for WAN failover and local authentication so I am not concerned about that right not , my prime work is to udnerstand the AP group and working.
if you still need print shot let me know I will have to go at site.
also validate if my thinking is right on the 4 steps I have mentioned above , I am new to wireless and whatever I have learned I have learned in last 10 days .
    Appreciate your help.
    Thank you

  • Configure WRT54G Wireless Router with PUBLIC IP address and use DHCP for internal computers

Hi,I have an Internet online service with 5 public IP addresses. The router and the AP are connected to a switch. I would like to configure a WRT54G wireless router with one of this IP public Address and use DHCP (with private ip address)  for the computers that will connect to the AP. As the AP is connected to the switch it is possible that other wired computers that are connected to the same switch can obtain an IP address from the DHCP ?
     Thansk in advance

Thanks for your help. Please correct me if Im wrong. After connecte the equipments the way you suggestI setup a static IP address (The public IP)  in the WRT54GI enable DHCP in the WRT54G with a range from 10.10.0.100 to 10.10.0.200 (as an example) The gateway is the Public IP address right ? How do I route the 10.10.0.x addresses to the public IP address. Thansk again

  • "sticking" IP address using DHCP

I have a problem of a "sticking" IP address when using DHCP to connect to the wi-fi network in my office. Every time I connect I get assigned the same IP address, usually a high number like 192.168.1.182 or 240. My connection then gets progressively slower and slower.
When I can't take it any longer a I use DHCP with manual address to force a lower number, and then my connection speeds up for a while. The MBP eventually sets itself back to DHCP, however, and then the problem begins anew. Sometimes I then cannot connect at all, until I delete the network and re-add it, putting in its password again. Any ideas what the problem is?

I suspect it's not the IP address per se but your changing of it that "speeds" up your network access, and it's likely because of interference or other environmental factors.
The issue with Wi-Fi connections is the transmit rate constantly changes as interference and other factors do.
The next time you connect, click the AirPort menu bar icon while holding down the option key and note the value shown for "transmit rate." Later, when your connection slows down, do the same and see if it's changed drastically.
Also note that "forcing" a lower number is likely wreaking havoc on your network, as you're in all likelihood stealing an IP address from the router's DHCP range that it doesn't know is in use and therefore it may assign it to some future client.
I'm sure your IT folks, if any, would also have an issue with what you're doing for the same reason.
