Using different libraries when travelling

Gretings all, here is my situation. I was bought an IPOD mini just before I embarked on a 6 month trip. Now I am on that trip and the music I transferred to my IPOD before I left is boring and I want to change it. So... I have bought some nice new c.d,s and want to get them on to my IPOD. I obviously do not have my old pc with me that I used to do the original transfers so I am in an internet cafe and I have managed to download and install Itunes and it recognises my IPOD etc. When I transfer or create new playlist the IPOD says "updating" when I choose update but nothing copies to the IPOD. Please bear with me as I had this device for all of one day so have no idea about Itunes really. From reading some of the other posts it seems that this might nbot be possible due to legal wrangles so I am not really sure. The bottom line is that I have bought new music and need to get it on to my IPOD from a different computer than was originally used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe worth mentioning that when I first connect the IPOD it comes up with a message saying this IPOD is connected to another library, do you want to remove the link to the old library etc... seems to me there that if I say yes it will delete anything on my IPOD. I dont want to do that obviously.
many thanks for any help

First off, you're correct, don't "link" to another library.
Instead, open the Preferences screen, and put the iPod into "Manual" mode.
Then you can manually manage the songs on the iPod. You'll need to rip those CD's to the computer itself, and then copy the ripped songs by dragging and dropping them from the iTunes Library onto the iPod icon.
In Manual mode, you'll also be able to expand the iPod and Manage its playlists directly.

How can I use AirPort Express when traveling?
Connect the AirPort Express to the Ethernet port in your room.....to be able to create your own private wireless network in your room for multiple devices.
You will still have to pay the hotel Internet charge for one device, if the hotel charges for Internet access.
If the hotel only provides wireless service, then a single AirPort Express will not help you.
However, if you have two AirPort Express devices, then you can use one to "join" the hotel wireless network, then connect the second Express to the first using an Ethernet cable and create your own wireless network for multiple devices in your room.

  • How can I separate playlists from different libraries when two or more users do login in the same computer?

We've got two computers. I access my iTunes on both of them. I've got an iPod nano. But another user access his own iTunes account in one of these computers. He's got an iPhone. When I login in this one, I share all my playlists with him, and vice-versa. How do I do to separate these libraries without deleting one of them?

  • Using an iPod when travelling as iTunes Library

    Hi,
My iTunes library is currently an external hard drive, but when I travel with my iBook and iPod, I would love to use my iBook speakers to play my iPod library. I tried naively once just plugging it in a hotel room, but it didn't work. What do I need to do to get it to work?
    Thanks so much,
    Phil

    Phil,
A better solution would be a portable audio system such as the inMotion series by Altec Lansing.

They'll sound a lot better than your iBook speakers.

  • Using different libraries and HDD

    Hi All,
I recently purchased a HDD for use through my Time Capsule as an external storage device for music and movies etc. This purchase was based on advice received from guys at the Apple Store, but I don't know quite how to set things up to work properly.
What I want to do is save all of my music to the HDD and access it remotely when I'm at home, and I want to have some music on my computer so I can listen to it when I'm away and sync it with my iPhone. I've transferred all files from my iTunes folder to the external drive, and I've also transferred all the random, unsorted stuff from other drives. I now have a library on my computer but no files linked to them.
Firstly, how do I consolidate all of the music on the external drive? Secondly, how do I create two separate libraries?
Once my digital media is sorted I'll reload all of my CDs, so do I just save them to my computer, and then transfer them over to the HDD once they're done?
I'm sure this is all very simple, but I haven't got a clue where to start. Any help would be really appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • How do i use IPAD wifi when travelling

I have been extensively using IPAD 2 . I recently decided to upgrade mine to IPAD3 . I bought one at the grove apple store and before that asked the salesman the difference in the IPAD 2 AND IPAD 3. He said the resolution of camera and picture was good and the memory was 32GB ( then one I bought) . Thinking it would give me a better speed and features and that all the existing facilities of IPAD 2 would be available since it was not mentioned by the sales man, i bought the same. Later I found when I opened it a couple of days later that there is no provision for sim card slot and only wifi CAN BE USED. wITH A RESULT where there is no WIFI connectivity as in most parts of the world it is useless. This aspect was not informed to me by the sales man . otherwise I would not have purchased the same. I think the person should have told about this. Now I am stuck with a near useless IPAD as I cannot carry two IPADs one for wifi USe and other with 3G facility. I feel I have been cheated

The mifi is an alternative  to keep the one you have (Mifi is verizon's one, other cellular companies have their own versions)
There is a lot of free wifi out there and even apps that will give you a database you can access off line to find them.
Like was also said, you have 14 days, take it back. The 14 day return/exchange is standard at the apple store, other retailers have their own rules.

  • Using Shared Libraries When Not Logged In

Is there a way I can use a shared library from my laptop when not logged into my iTunes account on my main computer? It kind of defeats the purpose if I have to have both iTunes running.

Yes, I'd like to be able to access my shared library from my laptop. I'd like it to function so that my home PC (which has the original library on it) does not have to be running iTunes. For times when I'm logged off or not running iTunes (because it uses a lot of the computer's memory, and other users find it quite annoying).
I'd just like to know if there are any third-party mods, software, or any other option to perform this task.

  • Can I ask, if my wife and I have seperate profiles set up on a windows laptop and are currently using different libraries on iTunes, can we use the same library? It seems a terrible waste of space if there are artists we both want to listen too.

Is this purely a copyright issue? For instance, I gifted her an iTunes album at christmas, so if we were to link to one library, I shouldn't be able to listen to this should I? I have about 160 albums in my library, and she has about 300 individual tracks in hers. Our tastes overlap, and music takes up space on my hard drive, so surely she should be able to link to my library too... or is this just a can of worms in waiting...

You can share your libraries within the same household:

  • How do you prevent the itunes trailers from playing in a different language when traveling abroad?

I am traveling in the Dominican Republic and I was looking to download a move, but I wanted to watch the trailer first.  The trailer played well but in Spanish and I don't speak or understand Spanish.  How do I change the setting so all trailers play in English?  Does the same apply to what I download?

You can only purchase items in the iTunes store country you are physically located in and have a credit card and billing address in that country.
How do I change the setting so all trailers play in English?  Does the same apply to what I download?
    You cannot change it.
Yes, it applies to previews as well as downloaded content.

  • I want to change to local carrier sim card when traveling. Do I need to get an unlocked iphone 5?

I live in the US, and want to buy iphone 5. I am having a hard time to figure out which iphone 5 I should get. I will use the phone in the US most of the time. Therefore, I will purchase a plan from a US carrier. I also want to use the phone when traveling in Asia. I don’t want to use international roaming because every time I travel, I need more 1,000 minutes talking on the phone. Do I need to get an unlocked iphone 5? I heard iphone 4S can change sim card at local carrier. Does iphone 5 have the same option?

"Do I need to get an unlocked iphone 5? "
    Yes.
There has been no announcement about the release of an unlocked iphone 5 yet.
"I heard iphone 4S can change sim card at local carrier."
If it is unlocked then it can use other SIM cards.

  • Using external libraries in eSWT on 7.1

    Hi again.

  • 2 ipods, 2 computers, use different library?

We have two computers in our house and two ipods. They both use different libraries. Can I copy music from both libraries to either ipod? Does one ipod have to only be linked to one libary?

You can do this, Doreen. You just need to set both iPods to manually update songs and playlists. Automatic updating will no longer be possible, of course, but you'll be able to grab music from either computer (manually). See this for more.

  • HT1206 I buy apps in my iPhone using different Apple IDs. Which Apple ID should I use to authorize the computer when synchronizing iPhone with iTunes?

I buy apps in my iPhone using different Apple ID. Which Apple ID should I use to authorize the computer when sync iPhone with iTunes?

    Hi again,
After a little further research, it appears that you would need to create separate iTunes libraries in order to be able to continue to purchase and download previously purchased items on the same computer, for two different Apple IDs. Sorry - but my husband and I have had the library we sync with authorized for so long, that we have not run into this issue, but it appears that you will get an warning when you try to authorize the second ID on the same computer, indicating that another ID is already associated with it.
So, you will probably have to set up separate iTunes libraries for each ID:

Sorry for any confusion - hope this helps!

  • When using different profile, I can't get it cleared for security

Due to trouble with Flash, I changed/added a ff profile.
When I then tried to sign in to yahoo, I got screen saying for security purposes I had to verify my ID. I had a choice of several methods, text or voice to cell, email to different email.
I tried both texting my cell and getting email. Both times, I got code. I typed it in and clicked on 'submit'. Nothing happens.
The image remains the same. It looks like I did not click at all. I have repeated this, sometimes clicking 8-9 times. still no change.
In order to reach my yahoo mail, I had to go back to my earlier profile. I may as well change back to old profile and as changing did not solve the problem with flash.
But I would still like to know what is going on/ how to fix it.When I travel and use different computer, I have to do this, verify ID. I want to know how to force the verifcation through.
    Thanks
