Using different SIM (legal unlocked by o2 UK)

Hello everybody,
I have an iPhone 3GS in the UK. o2 offers to unlock the iPhone to use a different SIM for free. I used this service and got the message that my iPhone is unlocked and I have to switch the SIM and connect my iPhone with iTunes afterwards. I did so, but always when I switch off my iPhone, for example when I used an airplane, and switch it on again I have to connect the Phone with iTunes. This is quiet annoying, because right after the flight I don't have computer with me.
My questions is: Is this normal, or did I do anything wrong? Can I change this so that my phone doesn't have to be connected with iTunes after switched on with a different SIM?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you a lot to everybody.
I don't know what the solution was at the end but now I can change the SIM cards without using iTunes between all the time.
I tried what you guys suggested. I made a back up and restored the I phone. During this process I got a message that the I phone is going to activate, at that it will take a moment. After 30 seconds it said that the phone is activated.
So I could be that the restoring process was the solution or that I just disconnected the phone to early from the Computer / iTunes before that the process couldn't be completed. Perhaps I will find out in the future when I have another iPhone. But I hope that the next iPhone, which I will buy, will be sold without SIM card lock anyway!
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!

I am trying to activate a first gen iPad with WiFi and 3G. When I go to Settings, Cellular Data, and View Account to activate the iPad, I get an error message that says, "SIM is Invalid.  Pleae use a different SIM."
There is a SIM PIN option, and when I click that it asks for the PIN.  I don't have a PW for the SIM (the iPad was a slightly used gift, and none of the paperwork came with the iPad).
Any ideas on how to activate the iPAD?
    Thanks!

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

  • Contacts using different SIM card

My son is going abroad and will be using a SIM card provided by an international calling service provider.  He has an iPhone 5.  Will his contacts still show in his phone even with the new SIM card?

Just like most cellular phones, the iPhone uses a SIM card to determine the phone number, carrier, and features are available for the account. However, the iPhone does not store contacts and phone numbers on the SIM card
    So yes

  • Using different sim cards?

Hello, just have a quick question. I got the Iphone 4 for christmas (I live in Canada) and I have the bell network. I was wondering is it possible to use my i phone over in Ireland with my vodaphone sim card? (I live in Ireland half the year). I think i have to get a different card, like a smaller one so it will fit into the sim slot. I'm just really hoping I don't have to have two phones anymore.... any thoughts or suggestions?
    thanks loads!

If the iPhone 4 was purchased for a lower subsidized price or direct from bell at full retail price the iPhone is locked to Bell. Currently bell does not offer unlocking for the iPhone. So it will not work overseas or on another carrier.
If the iPhone 4 was purchased direct from Apple (online or in an Apple Store) at full retail price then it should be unlocked.

  • I have buy 4s it's unlocked and its working with different carriers in Bahrain but in Pakistan I try to use different carriers's sims but its showing sim is not valid , not compatible? any one please help me out this

Try restoring the iPhone to factory settings. If you are having difficult restoring, put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and see if that then works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, or if a restore to factory settings does not fix the problem, then your iPhone may have a hardware problem. You can only get the iPhone serviced by Apple in Canada, so you will have to take the iPhone there or send it to someone you know in Canada who can get the iPhone serviced and send it back to you. The only option for getting service in Pakistan would be to pay some unauthorized repair shop to attempt a repair, after which Apple will no longer provide any service even in Canada.

  • Legally Unlocked 3G - how can I use when vacationing in USA?

I have a 3G iPhone, legally unlocked by Optus (standard in Australia). I'm going to be visiting the US for a vacation shortly, and want to use my phone for both US phone calls as well as data.
Obviously I don't want/need some kind of permanent subscription.
Any suggestions for a good strategy would be appreciated.

An iPhone unlocked by Optus in Australia will accept a SIM from non-Australian networks.
I was in the USA recently. You can purchase a cheap Motorola AT&T Go Phone in places like Walmart for $14.95. I did this in Hawaii. You then call them via a 1-800 number on another phone or via the website to activate it. You will need to provide US address details, including Zip code. You can then use the SIM from the Go Phone in your iPhone. The $14.95 does not include any call credit. You have to purchase that by the standard means. Check out http://www.att.com/gophone .
When unlocking a phone you should ensure it is unlocked before you leave the country. It is a lot harder to rectify once outside the country.
There are two main GSM-based networks in the USA: AT&T and T-Mobile. With an Optus SIM you can roam onto either. With an unlocked iPhone you can even use a T-Mobile SIM. I believe you won't get any 3G service on the T-Mobile network as it uses a different band than those supported by the iPhone, although someone may correct me on this.

  • I want to take my iPhone abroad for a few months, how do I use a different SIM card in my phone?

I'm travelling around America for two months with a tour company (Trek America) that offer a SIM card that enables cheap calls back home and within the US. What do I need to do in order to unlock my phone to use a different SIM card?

Contact your wireless provider.  If they don't provde that service then you can't unlock it.

  • Using a sim in an unlocked iphone 4

    Hi.
    Can someone help me please.
I have an iPhone 4 that was locked to a Vodaphone contract. The contract has ended and Vodaphone have had the IMEI deleted by Apple from their locked IMEI list.
They have emailed the original owner (family) to say it is unlocked now and that a sim that has not been used before should be put in it and it should be linked to tunes.
I have a few questions, please can someone help me.
    1. I am in Spain but I have a '3' payg sim. If I put this in and link it to my I Tunes will it work ok, as I am not in the UK or should I not do anything until I return to UK in four weeks.
    2. Once it has been successfully been linked to I Tunes , can I then swop the SIM over to a local payg for different countries (as I travel a lot).Someone has told me this is not possible that it will lock to the sim that is in the phone when it is linked to I Tunes, which defeats it being unlocked.
Thank you, really appreciate it if someone can advise on these points.

Thank you. But I would be grateful if anyone can please answer my 2 points that are not covered by the link you suggested.
I appreciate your suggestion and assistance but I really need to know a) if I can put a different sim in from abroad and link to iTunes and b) if I can swop sim's anytime as someone told me it would lick to the first sim I put it.
It has even unlocked by Apple at Vodaphones request already. But I don't want to put a foreign sim in it and find it locks to that company and I can't use it in UK.

  • HT201328 Hi there, I just got the iPhone 5 from Optus with 24 months contact now I tried to unlock to use Vodafone SIM card but I can''t unlock pls can can tell is any other way to do. Thanks

Hi there, I would like to know how to unlock Optus  iPhone 5. I got an iPhone 5 from Optus new phone is only 2 months old and the phone is on 24 months contact . Now I tried to unlock but I can't unlock if I can unlock my phone so I can use in oversee next week. Can you please help me and tell me what to do to unlock to use other SIM card that's is not Optus only. Thanks

Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Why do you think they would do so before you complete the terms of your contract? I don't know specifically what their policy is, but most carriers won't do so unless they are legally required to.
If you didn't want to use Optus, why did you sign a contract with them?

  • How do i unlock iPhone4 to take different sim provider

how do i unlock iphone4 to take different sim provider

The process is contact your network supplier .
    Ask IF they offer unlocking.
IF yes request the unlock and pay any fees requested.
Your network supplier then contacts Apple to request the White listing (Unlocking) of your phone on the iTunes servers.
Apple do this -It takes anything from 3 days to several weeks to complete.
On completion Apple confirms this back to your Network supplier (NOT YOU)
Your network supplier contacts you via email or SMS inviting you to connect your iPhone with your computer via the supplied USB cable and launch iTunes and follow on screen prompts through to the "Congratulations your iPhone is now unlocked" screen.
All these steps need to be carried out with the ORIGINAL SIM and by REGISTERED account holder used when setting up the phone.
Once the Congats...... screen has been reached you can swap out the REGISTERED SIM and replace with a compatible SIM on another network.
    CAVEATS
Only the original SIM and Account holder can initiate an unlock- If you bought the phone used/second hand you CAN NOT UNLOCK through official routes
Once unlocked use of a Mobile Virtual Network SIM (For an unsupported carrier) may result in difficulties sending SMS messages.
You may have to go into Setting /Network/Cellular/Cellular Data Network and enter the correct settings manually.
Further caveat Cellular Data Network menu is SIM card dependant if its not supported you CAN NOT change the settings manually then you may need to contact the SIM card company - They can send a setup SMS if they support this process.

  • Does the iPhone 5 come unlocked so I can put in a different SIM card?

I'm going to study abroad in Germany for a few months and want to make sure I can use my iPhone 5 from Verizon with a different phone company over there by just using a different SIM card. Can the iPhone 5 be used with any carrier via the SIM card?

I never had a iPhone, but I have been researching that exact question.  It seems that Verizon iPhone 5's automatically come sim unlocked.  Which is not a full unlock where you are able to delete certain programs you were not able to delete when you first bought the phone.  A sim unlock will allow you to use other sim cards for other companies, but you will not get LTE data. According to Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney: "she says there's no plans to lock Apple's handset at a later point. In other words, you should be free to use a Verizon-locked iPhone 5 on any compatible GSM and HSPA+ networks for as long as you'd like, including with AT&T and Canadian carriers. Of course, this still brings the caveats of having to both buy a Verizon model, either at full price or with a contract attached, and track down a nano-SIM for the carrier of choice. It could nonetheless settle the question of what carrier to pick if you regularly need a passport when you travel.  I believe this article will tell you all you need to know.  if not, you can go to verizon if the phone is locked, and have it sim-unlocked, as long as you have a account with them in good standing.

If you don't find your answer with this link, just type "does Verizon's iPhone 5 come unlocked"  in the search box on that site.  about 10 recent articals comeup saying it is, but it doesn't say if you get 3G or any kind of data.  just says, you wont be able to get LTE

  • Confused by what phone number shows up when iMessaging internationally after using two different SIM cards/numbers

I have a legally unlocked (by AT & T) iPhone 4s which is being used in Australia. First I had a "global" SIM card in it with a +44 (UK) phone number. I used that to text, iMessage and also used Whatsapp.  Then I switched to a local SIM card with a +61 (Australian) phone number. The weirdest thing happened-- can anyone explain?  I texted someone with the second/current Australian SIM card to a friend within Australia using data to do that and it was received as a text message coming from my Australian phone number. Then I walked into my building and my phone switched to wifi automatically (which I know is normal) and the next text message I sent her arrived as an iMessage but it arrived from my +44 number. That was the old SIM card no longer in my phone. I got a text back from her saying, "Who is this?" because she didn't recognize the +44 number! So, now I'm totally confused! How is that possible? The +44 number SIM card wasn't in my phone--so how could she get the iMessage from that number? Please help! What can I do to fix this?

You can try turning off/on iMessage to have it see your +61 Aussie number...

  • Use an iPhone 5 in 2 countries with 2 different sims?

I travel between the UK and Spain alot. Can I use an iPhone 5 (purchased outright in the UK and contract-free) in both countries with 2 different sims?

Yep, but you may have trouble getting a nano sim in Spain until the iPhone 5 is officially released there...09/28/2012.
Make sure you purchase your phone from Apple...the ONLY source for officially unlocked iPhones in the UK.
