Using Director to create an interactive animated comic? Advice to know if Director is the right tool

Hi all, I am looking for advice regarding interactive animated comics.I am creating animated comic sequences using After Effect,
but I would like to introduce an extra layer by adding interactivity in the mix (branching story for example).
I believe Director can do that, but I want to be sure it is the right software before I start digging in too much.
My main question is about portability (standalone, web and IOS/Android) and to have a pipeline which is futur proof. Is Director really going to move on and survive the next few years? Is Adobe Edge (still in beta) not going to take it's place? How versatile is Director to export for different platform?

Creating simple slideshows - is Catalyst the right tool?

I am a photographer and I want to create a slideshow of 100 images or so to promote my business. I was doing this with iDVD and it's simple - but doesn't support HD and has no provisions for a "Ken Burns Effect". I've used iPhoto and it does everything I need, but can't really burn a disk of the slideshow that works on PCs or Macs (that I know of). I am fairly proficient in Photoshop.
Here's my needs:
- drop in a series of photos
- create an order of the slides
- a simple transition between slides (could be just a fade)
- be able to do a manual Ken Burns on each slide (define start position and zoom / end position and zoom). So as that image is displayed it is moving somehow.
- automatically fit the slide duration to a mix of music
- burn a disk of that slideshow in HD (1080p or 720) give it to potential clients - they should be able to pop it into their Mac or PC and be able to play the slideshow just as I created it.
So is this something I can do easily with Catalyst? Is there a tutorial specific for this kind of need? Is there a better app for this kind of thing?

If you are looking to create DVD that is viewable on a TV or something that is viewable on a computer? Either way, Flash Catalyst is not the right tool. It might be part of an overall solution, but it might get very messy to develop. I would take a look at what Lightroom might offer, or try asking in a photography forum. They might know a tool that might fit your needs.

What's the right tool to use to migrate forms modules.?

I'm in doubt deciding which might be the right tool to use to migrate forms modules from 6i to 10g.
The obvious choice seems to be Forms Migration Assistant. However I found Metalink Note: 201344.1 which clearly states :
"We recommend to use ifcmp90 as there may arise some issues due to the migration assistant ifplsqlconv90. ifcmp90 upgrades the 6i fmb to 9i fmb whereas ifplsqlconv90 upgrades obsolete plsql , such as built-ins like set_alert_property. So it is advisable to use the ifcmp90 instead"
I have a newer version of FMA and i've done some test and it compiles and upgrades forms modules, but does not generate fmx files. So i conclude one should user FMA first and later generate fmx files either one by one or batch compile.
Please any comments are welcome ....!

correct. You use FMA first and then compile the FMX files. You can also use the Forms builder environment to perform the migration, but FMA is more convenient to use.

How to use Flash to create an interactive diagram

Hi all.
I am an extreme newbie. I would like to create an interactive diagram and somebody said I should use Flash to do it.
The idea is to create an organisational chart (like the ones you can produce in MS Word 2010). Each position will have its own box or button. When a user clicks on that box or button, a Word document or internet link will be activated and take the user to this other resource.
Is it possible to do this in Flash?
The reason why I am choosing Flash is because I would like to make alot of these diagrams and they have to go into Moodle. Apparently Flash is the only program I should use to import the diagram into Moodle.
Can anybody please help me with some advice on how to do this?

For the diagram end of things... start by creating the diagram in Flash. Whatever you intend to use as clickable items, create them as movieclip symbols so that you will be able to assign instance names to them. You assign instance names by selecting the object on the stage and entering a unique name in the Properties panel where it says <Instance Name>. That name will be used in the code you will use to create the clicking/linking functionality.
The the linking end of things, start simple... create a diagram that has just one item to click and get that one item working. What you learn from that can be applied to the larger version. The same as stated in the first paragraph applies. The only additional info you need is creating the actual code. To help with that you need to decide which version of Actionscript you will be using, which might depend on which version of Flash you are using. AS3 is the most recent version of Actionscript, and it first came into being back with Flash CS3.
The first thing you need to do to make a movieclip useful code-wise is to assign it a unique instance name. So you drag a copy of it out to the stage from the library, and while it's still selected, you enter that unique instance name for it in the Properties panel... let's say you name it "btn1"
In AS3, to make a movieclip work with code, you need to add an event listener and event handler function for it. You might need to add a few (for different events, like rollover, rollout, clicking it, but for now we'll just say you want to be able to click it to get a web page to open. In the timeline that holds that button, in a separate actions layer that you create, in a frame numbered the same as where that button exists, you would add the event listener:

The name of the unique function for processing the clicking of that button is specified at the end of the event listener assignment, so now you just have to write that function out:

Is Captivate the right tool to create info-graphic videos?

I need to create a short video explanation of how a data management software organizes information. This shouldnt be too difficult, but I want to visually emphasize the point with colored shapes (that represent data) and moving objects (to show how they go from unorganized to organized.) Thins would just require a lot of animation on my part, but I think it should work.
the project will be published as a SWF on the internet and I am using Captivate 5.
This seems like it will work, but I'll probably have at least 30+ objects on a slide, maybe more. Do you think that this can be done in captivate to good effect? If not, do you have any reccommendations of other software?

It is not always really necessary to have all objects on one slide...

Created a waveform, but I don't know how to repeat the waveform.

As my VI, I wanna creat a specific waveform for testing. But when the first loop ran out, the looping is stop.
How can I make it continuously operate? It is urgent, Thanks for your help!
and one more question is how can I combine this signal VI to my main VI ?
the signal output connect to the Select Signal 3. But seems it can not communicate between two while loop for passing the data.

the MainVI stops when you press the Stop2 button. Don't press that button to make it iterate more often…
Your subVI is very convoluted and will get a honorable mention in the RubeGoldberg thread. Maybe even in the "Why locals are bad" thread too…
- Don't abuse local variables: use wires instead! Please clean up your "signal" VI in that fashion.
- Afterwards rethink your logic. Why do you do the same operation 9 times in your VI? Why not use a loop instead?
- To integrate that VI as subVI in your MainVI you should remove it's while loop - or atleast make it run just once per call. Having a separate stop button in a subVI is (most-often) a NO-GO!
Btw. are you in the same team as Adithya working on a very related topic?

I am in the process of trying to send some "photos" from iPhoto to a self publishing company and they want it sent CMYK as opposed to RGB. The "photos" were printed beautifully for 2 books I created at an earlier date. I want to send in the right format

How do you convert iPhotos to CMYK? I want to send "artwork" which are essentially photos to a self publishing company for a children's book and don't know how to do this. The iBooks I created are beautiful and vibrant. Why can't I just send the photos? They want all artwork tiff and CMYK with at least 300dots on resolution?

Photoshop is a very expensive application. GraphicConverter can convert RGB files to CMTK and can set the PPI to what you need:

Interactive Animation

Hi
I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers on creating an interactive animation in Dreamweaver CS5.

What I would like to do is 'on mouse over' each book to pop out and 'on mouse down' link to another page.
Is this possible or should I use Flash?

How to use SNRO to create daily number range?

Dear all,
I would like to know how to use SNRO to create a daily number range.
We would like to have the following sequence. The first 8 digits are date and the last 2 digits are number sequence. Each day, the last 2 digits will start from 01 again. i.e. <8-digits date><2-digit sequence>
For example, today is 22 May 2006,

Tomorrow will have sequence like this:

I don't there is a automated way of doing as the dates do NOT follow a numbering sequence. What you can do is to create a number range for getting the last two digits every day and manually concatenate the date with the serial number.
However, as you have to reset the counter every day that might be a issue.

The command above about creating a group only works for the root site of the site collection, because the scope of the user group is site collection level, these groups
can be used in all the sites in this site collection.
With the existing groups in the root site, we can add users into them and grant specific permissions of a specific sub site to these groups.

Has anyone used BC to create a temp agency website?

I need a lot of help! I'm just starting with BC, but I used Joomla for almost every client. I need to create a new site for my client that is on joomla. This is a temp agency and I need to be able to create job applications and a resume uploader as well as a section for companies who need workers to sign up. I don't know if BC is the right solution or not because I've not seen it done on here yet.

Almost certainly. You can use any program which does what you want: the end product has to be an .mp3 or .m4a file. After that it's a question of making the feed, either writing it yourself or more likely using a program or online service.
Audacity is a useful program, and free, and you can certainly do the sort of things you need to make a podcast. I prefer Amadeus Pro, which costs $59.99 and has recently been updated with better multi-track facilities: I always fled that Audacity was awkward to use by comparison and occasionally flaky, but we're probably splitting hairs here: it would certainly be a good place to start.

If u activte planning file entries in back ground ur system take care about creating planning file entries automatically. For those materials which are Having MRP type other than ND.
If ur MRP type is ND then there is no Entry in Planning file.

Creating an interactive DVD from a Keynote presentation

Does anyone know how to create an interactive DVD from a Keynote Presentation?
I tried the export to Quicktime option, and then brought that QT movie into iDVD. The problem is that the interactive pauses between slides that I get with the QT version, isn't there in iDVD. The transitions turn into chapters, and when you play the DVD, one chapter goes right into another.
I'm sure someone has dealt with this before.

Be careful with terminiology. WIth Keynote 3 you can create a linear DVD, that works the same way a show in Keynote works if you plan to move through the show in the order you built it (complete with all the builds). What it does NOT appear to do is allow you to make a non linear DVD, which is, if you put a button/hyperlink on a slide, it won't work in the DVD. See my other thread about this for the reason why. I'm praying the next version of DVD Studio Pro will read iDVD projects, which would allow us to customize what Apple creates for us automatically.
