Using Discussions for Resource.
Hello;
everyone!
Now I have some problem about Discussions for Resources.
I give a test user Read permission of a folder. If he acess the discussion on this folder through the Details dialog,he can delete only his own discussions, posts,or replies that no one has reponded to yet.I know discussions of this type are also available on the portal homepage.I created a new KM Discussion iView .However, when this test user acess discussions through this iview, there is a <b>delete all topics</b> button,he can delete other's topics.
I must emphasize the fact that I use the KM dscussion iview .someone suggest me set Layout set.But I can't find Layout set in the property of KM discussions iview.
My problem:
1. If user acess discussions through KM discussions iview, there is a d<b>elete all topics</b> button,he can delete other's topics.
2. I can't find <b>Layout set</b> in the property of KM discussions iview.
3. If user acess the discussion through the <b>Details dialog</b>,he can't search the discussions content. However,I have creat a discussion index, and set the data source is collaboration.
Regards!

When to use @Resource and when to use @EJB for dependency injection
Hi,
When do you use
@Resource and when do you use @EJB for dependency injection?
ThanksCaptain obvious: Use @EJB for injection of EJBs, and @Resource for everything else.
There was a discussion about this very topic quite recently, perhaps you can find it through the search. -
New Discussions: for day time use only? (-: A darker blue, please!
Thanks a lot Mods for your efforts.
I spend some time on these boards every day, so I can see things are going better and better.
I like the new Discussions better than the previous, especially everything that comes with this new ability to put much more on one page (like being able to see A LOT (not only five) of "Recent topics in this category", or that the topic's titles can be longuer than before, or being able to read the whole thread without jumping to "the next 15 posts" like before. I set "My Posts" to "50", this too was not possible before. Etc.)
Now my request:
At first I thought, like many others, that the "blue dot" and the "blue half-dot" were too small, and that we couldn't see the small grey "New!" because it was not red.
Now after all this time since Nov14, I finally understood what was wrong, because
(1) the new kind of eye fatigue I didn't experienced before, and
(2) a change in my computer's room lighting configuration.
The real problem is not the blue dot size (altough I'm sure if it was a square it would work better), it is its environment.
We have a white line after a light blue line, and this is a great feature to differenciate between topics. Works great within a thread too, to differenciate posts.
But one side effect of this is that the whole page "feels" slightly blue.
I'm not sure, but a human eye physicist could perhaps explain another kind of (more insidious?) side effect caused by the alternance of lines. Perhaps depending on which color are chosen for them?
Anyway, there is no problem with a page that "feels" blue, when the text is black.
The problem starts when the text ALSO is blue. Especially light blue...
I find the text blue color too light. Even the "visited link" purple is too light.
Given that the background is blueish, I mean. Otherwise it'd be fine.
This was not easy to understand, because the [defect/effect] is not obvious: the overall picture is nice.
But it became obvious to me when I saw that I have no problem IF I set my screen's brightess to "very bright".
New Discussions: for day time use only?
==> Please, would it be a problem (or too difficult to set perhaps?), to try a darker blue text for two or three weeks, see if we like it better? (along with a slightly darker purple for the visited links).
Thanks again for all the great work!

Best Practice Advice - Using ARD for Inventorying System Resources Info
Hello All,
I hope this is the place I can post a question like this. If not please direct me if there is another location for a topic of this nature.
We are in the process of utilizing ARD reporting for all the Macs in our district (3500 +/- a few here and there). I am looking for advice and would like some best practices ideas for a project like this. ANY and ALL advice is welcome. Scheduling reports, utilizing a task server as opposed to the Admin workstation, etc. I figured I could always learn from those with experience rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. Thanks for your time.hey, i am also intrested in any tips. we are gearing up to use ARD for all of our macs current and future.
i am having a hard time with entering the user/pass for each machine, is there and eaiser way to do so? we dont have nearly as many macs running as you do but its still a pain to do each one over and over. any hints? or am i doing it wrong?
thanks

Haven't been able to use pages for a while. Keep getting following message. Have tried reinstalling iWork, but no luck. Same problems with Keynote and Numbers/
Have you moved Pages from its installed location? Or just dragged a copy to your current system?
It can't find some of its resources apparently.

Here is the etrecheck report. Any suggestions of some other maintenance I can perform on my computer? A mac tech did a system diagnostic and found nothing wrong with the hardware. I have already reinstalled Mavericks, so it seems like the next step is wiping the harddrive clean and starting over, but I want to avoid that if possible! Can anybody help?

0 B Page-outs1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Want to Use eHD for Primary Storage
Good day,
My question basically is: How do I change over to use my eHD as my primary storage instead of using it for back up through Time Machine? AND Can anyone explain how to do it as though I just plugged in a Mac for the first time yesterday?
Background: About 2 years ago with some great advice from people who answered a previous post I purchased a 1TM OWC external HD. I was down to 4GB left available on my internal and I find myself in a similar situation now with only 11.93GB left on my internal HD despite the 1TM eHD which is only a fraction full.
2 years ago when I originally connected my eHD I was given the option to store directly to eHD OR use it for back up through TM. Being a novice to it all and for whatever reason, not sure why exactly but at the time I chose to back up through TM. I was having issues with getting TimeVault turned off and was overwhelmed etc. etc.
Anyhow--flash forward 2 years later I am filling up my internal again with only the 11.93GB left that I mentioned. According to OmniDiskSweeper a good 142.9GB of it is coming from my movies---mostly the events vs. projects of course but 142.9GB none-the-less. I know when I import movies from my camera I can choose to direct them to the OWC but because the internal shows up first by default, sometimes I rush import without changing it to the OWC, hence filling up my internal.
Basically what I really want to do is store everything directly to the eHD and I am not sure how to do it. Is there anyone that can walk me through the process in simple, simple terms? Although I feel I've come a long way in 2 years I still consider myself a novice.
Yes, I have read many posts, threads, discussions but with different suggestions so not sure what is right. I am not familiar with this stuff such so I end up being afraid to "try" any of it for fear of losing my pics, movies forever. Or having to re-do them somehow. I read about just moving iMovie but too many options as to how and not sure which is right. Most forums are for people who know more than I about this already and suggest things like change events to view by volume (did it) but then I read stuff like open volume where events are stored and drag to volume you want to store it. Well for someone like me that raises more questions than answers. What volume? Do they mean in my case drag to the eHD? Will this keep everything the same as I had it? Will I still have my dates? Titles? Some discussions say copy. Do they mean move? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Really I want to just store directly to eHD for primary. I want to be able to open iMovie, iPhoto and have everything just like I do now but with all that glorius 1TB storage. I don't want to redo anything---just move and run off the eHD. Possible? If I simply unplug my eHD and reconnect---will I get the option I did 2 years ago to store directly to the eHD?
UGH!
Message was edited by: dgc0225 to re-arrange wording just after postingHi BDAqua,
If it's "easy" I would consider getting another 1 to 2 GB.
I read a post before I posted here that referred me to Ken Stone's site about formatting and partitioning but I couldn't change the "Volume Scheme" like in his examples. My real ones were greyed out so I didn't have the option to select. And honestly--reading on it's pretty complicated (based on my lack of knowledge with this) and I'm afraid I would screw it up anyhow. Anything else besides partitioning?
Anyone know what happens if I just turn-off Time Machine? What if I unplug the eHD and plug back in and start over? Like a re-boot of sorts? Too good to be true? -
Why doesn't SAP use SAPUI5 for this and that
This is my personal opinion about this topic! Again and again I stumble about this and now I want to share some of my thoughts about this topic. I want to share this from a point of view, when I was not a SAP Employee - I worked at a SAP Partner company - because this best reflects the view from the outside.
1. SAP "wants" us to use SAPUI5
I don't think that "wants" is the right word - the right word is offers! In terms of: hey now even included in your license and open sourced (because you wanted it so). Look - we build sooo many Fiori apps with it - and put in some great enterprise features (right to left, accessibility, translation, ...) and it is responsive. So if you want to build Fiori-like "apps" - there you go - this is your technology to go! This is what I understood.
I was very very very happy that it was build with open standards. But the main point for me another thing - (because I worked with Sybase Unwired Platform and SAP Mobile Platform) OMG an open data protocol!!! OData FTW! I could use ANY front-end technology and consume SAP data - the protocol is REST based - a dream came true. And so I did - yes I played around with Sencha Touch and OData, I used data.js and used it in a standard HTML5 application. We played around with an iOS application we already had and consumed the data. I feed the data into d3.js. I prototyped around with SAPUI5 and I have build apps with it. Brilliant, so I could choose whatever UI technology I wanted.
I always had the feeling, that SAPUI5 was meant for B2E applications - and building many of that - and they should look and feel the same and I can theme the apps. I can use it when I want to make my applications SAP like - so that the user thinks the apps are all the same and everything fits nicely into the Fiori launchpad - great if you want to build partner apps. In my ex company we won a SAP Pinnacle Award - for a native iOS app, no SAPUI5 in sight - but we have received an award, so SAP did not "want us" to use SAPUI5 ;-)
2. Is it the right UI technology for everything?
At my ex-company I was dealing with mobile applications and web apps. I always knew that I get the best user experience when I write a real native application and if you want it to look like in a very specific way with awesome UI --> you would not do it with a write-once-run-everywhere HTML5 super-styled wrapped (phone gap/cordova) app - you would write the apps for the specific platform and it should feel like it was written for the platform. SAP offered us the SAP Fiori Client that I could enhance the user experience for the Fiori apps, but I was never told to use SAPUI5 it for everything.
The same discussion goes on with: why was the new SAP website not build with SAPUI5, or the UX Explorer (eat your own dog food), or a useful internal app - why Angular, or the other way around why do we even use SAPUI5 and not Angular JS itself. Back to the past - SAP did never tell me to build a website with it, or to build something tiny and small with it (a widget) - or to enhance parts of a website with it - or to build something super-specific with it.
And yes maybe the UI in a mobile app was not SAPUI5 but do you know if it uses Gateway with OData or the SAP Mobile Platform, was the API managed with Apigee, was HCI involved in getting the data from different sources, was it maybe wrapped with SAP Mobile Secure, did it maybe use a HANA backend or some of its features (predictions, text analytics, ...) - are some backend parts maybe hosted on HCP - who knows? So yeah, maybe other SAP technology was involved which you don't see, but in the end it made your life simpler.
Instead of arguing around why this and that was used for this and that - can we save our energy and instead look at the result - which is all what counts - that it was the right UI technology with the right user interface which makes the user happy? I stated something like - does Google use AngularJS for everything? Nope. They offer us something great we can use. Right, maybe AngularJS is not as important for Google like SAPUI5 is for us. But we have something with which we can build our day-to-day business apps with and we do so.
3. We missed great opportunity in not using SAPUI5 for this and that
Let's think about how projects are going: you want something, you look at the costs, you choose most efficient option. Yes this could mean reusing an existing native application which was written long ago and you pimped it up. Or you had outsourced it to a company which wrote a similar app. Or you bought the source code. Or you have some cheap internal staff which could do it (students, trainee), or you could outsource it cheaply. Or all you have is people with experience in this and that technology. Or it must look in a very very specific way (because marketing says so) and you go native. Or it maybe should even differentiate itself and should look NOT like a Fiori app. And no - I don't think - this is my employees view - we are not for example an event app producer. We normally build business applications. And I don't think that we can write an app from scratch "just" for an event in a certain technology. Yes it would be nice if this and that would use SAPUI5, I think if it would be possible in terms of time and costs and UI wishes and hundreds of other factors we would do it with SAPUI5.
Working at the partner SAP showed me over 50 Fiori apps, now hundreds of Fiori apps are released. SAP now showed that SAPUI5 is going big with S/4HANA. We have seen the Simple Finance solution. I was walking around at the CeBIT this year and I was impressed myself which cool apps and screens have been shown with SAPUI5. I used the SAPUI5 app on a Samsung Smart Watch myself. The SAP Web IDE itself is built with SAPUI5 in its heart. I don't need any other "proves" that SAPUI5 is great. I have seen great use cases for it, but I also know myself when I would use other stuff.
4. My conclusion
There is never every anything which can cover all different use cases. One-size-fits-all clothes also does not fit for everyone even if it says so. If someone creates something great don't judge it by the UI technology. Judge it by the experience and the value it creates. There are reasons why this and that was chosen. Use what fits your needs best with your requirements. Make the end user happy!Hey Denise,
Thanks for pulling this discussion into SCN. Makes it much easier to discuss compared to Twitter. But I also have to apologize in the beginning that my answer now exceeds 140 characters by 50 times.
Let me share my thoughts and personal opinion as well. I will try to look at it from a strategic point of view, as you – as the technical UI5 expert - have already covered the technical perspective.
SAP recommends using SAPUI5 where it fits to customers’ requirements
Let me begin with a clear statement from my perspective: It makes no sense that SAP takes customer decisions.
Of course, customers expect SAP to help them with their strategies and decisions and of course we are helping. But at the end, the decisions have to be taken by the customer who needs to take the specific conditions of the company into account. The most important condition in the context of UX is the end user. But we shouldn't forget the business strategy as the most important influence factor. I’m not saying that technical decisions are completely unimportant, but I would like to point out that other things are more important for a company.
As a result, it wouldn't make a lot of sense if SAP would just want every customer to use SAPUI5. To me, customers need recommendations leading to solutions that satisfy their needs and requirements.
There is not that one UI technology that serves all needs
This headline might be a challenging statement and I can already imagine reactions to it. But in fact I can confirm this sentence easily. You always have to combine different technologies. Some of them are from SAP others not. The selection and combination of these technologies is different from customer to customer because the requirements are different. There are still reasons to use Web Dynpro ABAP and I’m still recommending SAP NetWeaver Business Client, POWL (Power Lists), WDA Chips, FPM based on the given environment of the customer. And obviously there are also reasons for UI5.
SAP already proves the usage of SAPUI5
In general, I see two different use cases here: Developing custom applications vs. adopting applications from SAP.
In the one case, customers want recommendations on development environments and UI technologies that consider their development requirements and existing conditions (e.g. existing skills, given implementations). SAPUI5 is a great UI technology and there are some special aspects that make the decision obviously easy. If I want to create simple business applications that can be connected with my SAP system easily, especially in combination under responsive conditions on multiple devices and targeted for casual and/or occasional users UI5 might be the right choice for many. Exactly this pattern is what many customers are searching for these days. So, the recommendation for UI5 comes quite often.
Whether or not SAP proves the usage of SAPUI5 in their own world is to me more connected to the use case where customers want to adopt SAP applications. And in deed, SAP is using SAPUI5. There are hundreds of SAP Fiori applications that have been built with SAPUI5 and there have been a lot of other applications developed using SAPUI5, too. And again, there is a huge need for applications for casual and/or occasional users, so that’s a big reason for SAP to create such applications.
Websites vs. Business Applications
This discussion was triggered by some statements in twitter, that SAP sites such as sap.com, SAP UX Explorer or the latest mobile conference app are not developed using UI5. Actually I see these to be websites but not business applications. I have never told a customer to build a website in UI5 and I would continue to do so.
Maybe we need to discuss the difference between a website and a business application. I guess it is not easy to find a common understanding here, as the borderlines between several worlds have disappeared in the last years.
Some years ago it was more or less easy to differ between:
Native desktop applications running on a specific desktop OS
Native mobile applications running on a specific mobile OS
Browser-based applications running in specific browsers
Websites, basically running on many browsers
In the first three categories we saw business applications. 1 and 2 were selected especially when specific functions of the device and OS where needed to be accessed (for example the camera of the mobile device, the fast rendering capability of the desktop). 3 was also used for business applications but in most cases on desktop browsers.
Today, one can develop browser-based applications that look like native applications and even can access the devices like native applications. Responsive design breaks the borderlines even more. Now, browser-based content can be rendered perfectly on a desktop browser as well as on a mobile phone and a user might even not be able to judge whether it was originally intended to be developed for the one or the other.
So maybe there is no big difference anymore between websites and browser-based applications. But there is still a difference between browser-based applications and browser-based business applications, where additional requirements such as integration into business systems are drivers. Here I see SAPUI5 as a very cool UI technology.
That’s just my 2 (personal) cents,

I use Outlook for my email on the Safari web browser, and about 90% of the time when I want to attach a pdf or jpg file it fails and about 50% of the time when I want to send a standard text massage it will also fail and the email massage crashes. The only way I can get my Outlook to work is if I switch to Firefox web browser. I would rather not switch to a new web browser if I don't have to.
It seems like what ever the problem is that its related the Safari web browser, because it works fine on the Firefox web browser.
I think its some kind of plug-in failure because it giving me a LOC ERROR:
LOC ERROR: Unable to locate localized string for resource ID 5007.
How can I fix this Plug-in?
And, yes my softwer is conpletly updated…That's an Outlook issue. You'll probably get better responses posting on the Office for Mac forums.

[SOLVED] Getting freezes after using dwm for some time and exiting it
Hello, I have an Asus Ux51, with a fresh (less than a month) arch installation. If I recall correctly I had a couple of freezes in other occasions but I don't remember much about those so I rather focus on the only freeze I can more or less reproduce and I've been having lately. After using dwm for some time with a couple of programs opened (rTorrent, browser, and some terminals for instance), if I close dwm or just press the power button to shut down, it starts closing everything and either stays with a black screen, or hangs while X prints the log information. It's not always though, for example, if I just boot it, open dwm and close it without giving it much use it usually closes fine.
Tried googling a bit to see the usual ways to troubleshoot this but didn't get really far.
This is my /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Found this recent thread in the forums, I'll give REISUB a try late, but the times it freezed I remember trying to blindly reboot it, or switching off virtual console and couldn't.
In case it's of any use, this is my # uname -a
Linux arch 3.10.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 26 11:26:59 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Could it have something to do with the nvidia optimus setup that this laptop has? When installing arch I found out that there was no support yet for it so I'm just using the intel drivers (following what the arch wiki said).
Any ideas or advice to point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Last edited by contiver (2013-08-16 20:25:34)I don't start st in my .xinitrc. I launch it from dmenu and usually everything is fine. If I launch it from dwm's internal command using Alt-Shf-Return, X freezes 100% of the time. A workaround was suggested by st's main developer to call st like this:
static const char *termcmd[] = { "/bin/sh", "-c", "st", NULL };
but it didn't work for me.
Very rarely X will freeze anyway. I haven't been able to pin it down. When X fails, my journal returns this:

On a Windows 2008 R2 server that had been working fine, all of a sudden some shared folders became inaccessible. Clicking on them returned the following: "<Folder> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. A device attached to the system is not functioning."
If I create another share with a different name for that same folder, it works fine. If I delete the original share then recreate it with the same name, I get the same error. However, if I right click on the problematic share and select 'map
network drive' that works. So this would not appear to be a permission issue.
I discovered this problem because the path for mapping the home folder as a property of their AD account stopped working.
I have tried most of the common things found on the internet. I've tried accessing via IP, same issue. While I only have a couple 2003 servers, those can access this resource.
At this point, I'm pretty much out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated. I also have some reports of potential issues with some printer mappings too which I will have to investigate in the morning.
If anyone has a solution to this I would be extremely grateful. Thank you.Hi,
Can you access the shard folder locally? Is a specific server cannot access the shared folder? Please try to Boot your server in Clean Mode to check if some third-party software cause the issue.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource CLOSE cursor
Hi,
I am a new member of this forum. I am working with a problem we got a few weeks ago. It is from a Pro C batch executable running on 10 threads dealing with >800 data accessed from multiple tables. The error as reported came from a package.function call.
This is the error I encountered:
process_item~G****, D***~-60~ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource~PACKAGE ERROR = CLOSE cursor C_***** in package R***.I*** 7641
The cursor is a simple SELECT cursor without Table or Record locking.
My questions are:
*Upon the occurrence of this error, is the execution already at the CLOSE cursor line or did the error occurred between the OPEN cursor and the CLOSE cursor? There are several lines of code in between OPEN and CLOSE:
- one that calls for a package.function that simply stores parameter values to a variable
- another one which fetches the cursor. The group that holds the cursor values is only used by a single function in the package
*Is it possible for this CLOSE cursor to cause a deadlock? What could have caused this?
*From what I know, Oracle deals with deadlocks by aborting the deadlocking process while others continue, but this deadlock caused our program to hang. How is this possible? Could the root cause of the deadlock be from our threading program? This is a rare occurrence and happened only twice this year.
Thanks,

only DML statements throw ORA-00060 error
