Using Dreamweaver without roaming user profiles.

In the college I work at, we have a single Windows R2 2008 domain of consisting of hundreds of Windows 7 workstations that students use to do their work.
Due to various network performance issues, last year we stopped using roaming user profiles for both staff and students, and instead use home directory redirection for things like desktop content and favorites. But we have hit a problem with the Dreamweaver CS5.5 application. Students using it are said to be having to repeatedly set up Dreamweaver connections to the same FTP server, in effect re-configuring Dreamweaver after login before they can use it.
I've not had any confirmation from Adobe, but it appears that because roaming profiles are not being used, the local profiles that Dreamweaver saves settings to is resulting in students having to re-configure settings whenever they log into a computer.
Is there a way that Dreamweaver can be forced, via a group policy or other means, to save/load its settings to/from the home directory of a user so that the user can then log into any computer on the domain and the Dreamweaver application will automatically load its saved settings for that user?

Setting the Roaming profile is a Computer configuration
Setting the Exclusions is a User Configuration.
Hopefully you are applying the Computer configuration to an OU with Computer objects and the User Configuration to an OU that contains the User objects?
Is loopback processing affecting an of the OU's that are parents of the Computer objects OU (or the child OU itself?)
If you are not restarting the computer, then your profile will remain locked and user settings will not be able to write to the registry to change the location.
Have you:
enabled the user exclusions
gpupdate /force
reboot the computer
login
I know under some circumstances profile redirection/roaming can take two reboot cycles to apply correctly.
Can you run the Group Policy Result Wizard from GPMC for the correct user and computer to ensure your policies are applying as you think they are?

  • Need help with roaming user profiles, home folder on server - symptoms after Windows reinstall on workstation

Hello. I have deployed roaming user profiles in our home office. We are using Windows Server 2012 on our datacenter computer, which has a partition with all our home directories. All was working beautifully for quite some time.
I re-installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop. I am able to log in to my profile from the new installation.
The problem that has started happening seems to be some sort of permission problem with my home directory, but I am not sure how to go about diagnosing it. I haven't changed anything in the policies or remote profiles.
    The symptoms:
When I try to run an installation program from my documents/downloads/desktop (remote) folders, UAC asks for the administrative credentials as expected, and then I am asked to enter my user credentials. If I do so, I sometimes get a message about duplicate
connections to a share, and the installation program does not execute. "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or
shared resource and try again." I am confused, because I am entering credentials for the same user name as the one I am logged in with.
To work around, I have to copy the executable to a folder on my workstation hard drive and run it from there.
Another symptom is when I download anything from the internet, chrome will reflect a "Failed - Download error" message with the download. If I re-attempt the same download several times, eventually it will succeed. This appears to be due to my
downloads folder being on the remote computer.
I am looking for any guidance on how to remedy these symptoms. I suspect there must be a setting I have forgotten to change in the local computer, because nothing has changed on the server since it was operating properly.
    Thank you for your time.

ISE 1.2 with patch 8 has been installed and Works fine.

Scenario is EAP Chaining which does machine authentication + User Authentication
After NAC Agent Pops up and Posture Assessment is successful, Users cannot see their Home drives and few other Network Drives.
Sometimes during login we get the Error Message "User Profile cannot be loaded" and "User cannot Logon"
Also while logging off We get the screen "Your Roaming Profile was not synchronized"
All the Home Drives and Network Shared drives IP addresses are already added in the Downloadable ACL's.

  • Windows 7 Themes will not Roam with Roaming User Profiles

    Hi,
If I install a theme pack from the Microsoft Personalization website, it will install on the PC I am currently using. However, if I log onto another PC, the theme will not roam. I mean the wallpaper collection, the sounds, the screensaver, and the window
color. I am using a GPO to delete user profile on logoff, and I am using folder redirection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Could you please tell more details about the GPO which was set to delete user profile on logoff? Are we in a domain environment?
Before going further, please run gpresult /v on a command line with the admin rights and then post back the result.
If I understand rightly, the user logged on with a newly created profile every time as there is no user profile settings(deleted every time on logoff) for the user to load.
As the user profile settings is deleted, any changes made are no more available.

  • Use Department field from user profile

    Hi,
When user uploads a document - "Created By" takes its name automatically.
We need the data of the department of the user also.
I see that i can change the column to display any field from user profile in the "Created By" (user name / email/ department...).
What should i do in order to use more than one field? (it's like set 2 "created by" columns to each doc - one to get the user name and one for department).
It is for use department values in search.
    keren tsur

    Hi keren,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get user name and department for the user who created the document.
I recommend to get the department using the default Created By column and use workflow to get the user name from Created By column in a new column.
Create a workflow associated with the library and set the workflow to start when an item is created.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Office 2010, Appdata, Roaming user profile and Normal.dot

    Hello,
We have roaming profile on our domain users and they are working fine within the network.
When they are at home using the same computers, they login with a cached copy of their domain profile.
    Server is 2008 R2, Windows 7 x64 clients and Office 2010 x64 package.
When the users go home, they get "The file Normal.dot cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents" and "Word cannot open the existing file (Normal)" error when they open Word 2010.
If they use VPN or connect remotely to the network, everything is fine. But when they are at home and just want to open a document from their USB stick, this happens.
The users Documents, Desktop, Favorites etc are mapped to DFS shares in the network.
This of course means, they don't have access to them at home, which is fine.
On the ADM template for Office 2010, the User Template path is set to  : "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"
AppData folders is redirected to localprofile for the above to work and under the "Exclude Directories in romaing profile" we have added the entire "AppData\Roaming" (we are testing so that is fine for now) but still the "Appdata\Roaming"
travels with the roaming profile which means the Template path becomes unavailable (or so it seems) when the users disconnect from the network.
But what is confusing is, I can still browse to the above path manually, but Word 2010 some how seems to think its not there.
We do not want to use Offline feature (yet), and want to find if there is any other method of solving this.
    Ramu V Ramanan

Thanks Jeff. I don't want to go down that second path, autorecover is not our foe here, its the 'Templates folder'
As for the first part, that doesn't work. The problem is word still looks for the path "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates" which it thinks is not
available, when it is (as its exempted from being roaming using the registry value/GPO). Moreover, when the user is disconnected from the network, they can't click Modify and change the path, it simply doesn't do anything when you click Modify on
the screen to change the path to the template file.
We are considering ditching the roaming profiles, especially because the machines are now travelling outside the network. Or creating a special folder in all those machines where we can put a copy of the normal.dot. This is only affecting about 100 such
users, other users who have local profiles on the machines are fine.
    Cheers,
    Ramu

  • Migration from Roaming Profiles to User Profile Disks - RDS 2012 (R2)

Hi, I'm currently in the process of tweaking our RDS 2012 environment and have a question I hope someone can help me with....
The users who log onto the Collection are currently using roaming profiles stored on a 2008 R2 file server, but I'd like to move them onto User Profile Disks (looks to be a lot of pro's to it). Is there a way to migrate users profiles from roaming profiles
to User Profile Disks? We already have a lot of users on the farm with roaming profiles and I'm guessing if UPD is enabled, it will only take effect with new users? I need to do this without too much hassle if possible
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot able to move\migrate the roaming user profile to new User profile disk on server 2012\R2. You need to move them manually. Please refer below thread.
Is it possible to migrate local profiles to user profile disks?

  • Can I use iPhone 4s in China without roaming charges?

We are leaving for China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore in 2 weeks. I want to purchase an iPhone 4S, but want to use it without roaming charges. Can this be done and how?

You can buy and unlocked phone (http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=iphone+4s+unlocked) and then purchase service from the local country you're visiting and insert their SIM.  It would probably be cheaper to purchase a short-term international plan from a local carrier though.  Call the major carriers and ask; here's a list:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937.  (Be careful about purchasing a phone outside of the country you're in; the warranty is country-specific.  If you buy one in Singapore you won't get warranty service in the U.S.)

  • Workflow Manager & User Profile Service Application for Extranet Web application

    Hi,
Recently i have setup HA WF Manager farm and associated it with Intranet web application (on-prem). Now i want to use the same farm for our extranet environment (on-prem) but extranet environment is not associated with UPA. Since user profile application
is not available for extranet environment so workflow does not work.
Now if I try to use existing UPA or create a new UPA for extranet environment, then i am exposing users data to all partner and collaborators. But for workflows to work it is necessary that users profile should be there in profile database.
Is there any way that I can run workflows in extranet environment without exposing user profile data to partners/collaborators? Thanks.
    -Prashant

Thanks for the reply Paul, but this does not solve the problem.
Actually in MySite web application external users group is not at all added with any permissions but just to check your suggestion i have given permission to externals group with Deny Read permission. Now UPA is associated to the extranet web application
and when i access user profile data using RESP API using a partner account I can still see the data. For e.g. I am using this URL
    https://extranet.abc.com/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetPropertiesFor(accountName=@v)?@v='abc\uname'
When I hit this URL in browser using partner account, it shows the profile data of the account passed in the URL.
MySite web application is https://mysite.abc.com and on this web application external users group is added under policy with Deny Read permissions. Thanks.

  • Nokia Suite filling WIndows 7 user profile

I am limited by my institute in the size of my Win 7 roaming user profile. Nokia Suite has created two directories
    ./Appdata/Roaming/Nokia
    and
    ./Appdata/Roaming/Nokia Suite
    the directory
    C:\Users\nmak1\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\IntelliSync\352429051011000\Configuration
    is particularly big.
any way to have Nokia Suite store these files to another location?
    matt

I think this location can not be changed, nokia suite uses it as an image of your mobile. And  '352429051011000' this is your mobile IMEI no.
You may delete that folder named "352429051011000" and reconnect your phone , suite will make this directory again with new database.
But do not delete the folder permanently first time, if anything goes wrong u can restore the folder again.

  • Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.
    I have two problems.
First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, at
logoff, the system event log contains these errors:
The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.
The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:
It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected"
before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?
    Second:
Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved
    the problem described below.
My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk
file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD and
always logs on with a temporary profile.

We experience less to zero problems after an outage with our User Profile Disks when we use the option: "Store all user settings and data on the user profile disk". Other then when we use the other checkbox (even though all checkboxes
    underneath are checked).
Our test setup was, an RDSH 2012 r2 server(s), with an 2012r2 server holding the share.
We first tried the "store all user settings" for the User Profile Disk, we logged several accounts onto our RDSH Server we then disconnected our server which holds the share to simulate an outage. After about 5 minutes we connected the
server again holding the share. When the share comes back online, we logged off the users and logged them back in. The result was a valid profile for all the accounts including their last changes from before the share got disconnected.
The exact same test was done with the option: "Store only the following folders on the user profile disk" with all checkboxes underneath checked, which gave us corrupt profiles.. We also did these tests by giving the server holding the share a reboot instead
of an disconnect from network. This gave us the same result. Each test was done at least 2 to 3 times..
I hope others can confirm this as well in their situation, as it seems to be a bug within that specific checkbox.
Looking at the above tests, the best way in my test cases were to exclude the default folders (f.e.: \Documents) if you would like to redirect them instead of using them inside your User Profile Disk. Redirects can be done through GPO Folder redirection
options or GPO registry combined with Environment Variables.
Even after several attemps to simulate an outage, i get left with consistent profiles. I've now also included an hard reset of my virtual machine (that gave the same results as a disconnect of the network card). This was all done through using the: "Store
all user settings in the user profile disk". The other option left us with inconsistent profiles. I hope others can confirm this as well..
Looks to me that the type of connection towards the User profile happens different. You can see this when looking at the C:\users\<username> and subfolders if you use user profile disks. The 2 options show different symbols as well.

  • 2 User Profiles, One Mac

Hi everyone.  Here is what I've got:
    1. MacBook Pro running 10.7.2
    2. TWO Profiles on that MacBook pro.
    3. Two Iphones (one for me, one for my wife)
    4. Two Ipads (One for me, one fore my wife)
    5. We use ONE AppleId
So, I have registered one of the iphones, and one of the ipads with the cloud. No problem. I tried to register one of my profiles on the mac with the Cloud, Let's call it "Home" and it says: "You can't sign in at this time. Try signing in again."  So, I go to my other profile on the mac, let's call it "Work" and it signs in to Icloud just fine. Can I NOT use iCloud with two user profiles? That seems so strange to me when i CAN use it with multiple decices (iphones, ipads, etc...)
Thanks for any help that you can give.
    Bachman618

You can use the Shared folder in your /Users folder to share files between user accounts.
EDIT: You could also use a folder shared by two Dropbox accounts.

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
using 3rd party tools, still no change.
2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • Huge ntuser.dat.LOG1 since upgrade to Windows 8.1 prohibits roaming of user profile

    Hello,
a few days ago my PC (part of our domain) first started to have problems with my user profile. Our domain uses roaming profiles with a size limit of 30MB. My user.dat has a size of 12.5MB. Up to now this did not cause any problems (and does not cause any for
most users of our domain having a user.dat of similar size). However, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I repeadly have problems with my profile exceeding its maximum size. After checking my profile, I found a ntuser.dat.LOG1 with 12,5MB in size and a ntuser.dat.LOG2
of 2MB. As far as I know these files are used to store temporary transactions for the user.dat. But why are they this large? Together they almost completely fill the profile. As an interesting side node the last modification of ntuser.dat.LOG1 dates back more
    then seven days.
What is further puzzling me: ntuser.dat.LOG1 and ntuser.dat.LOG2 are not synchronized with the roaming profile on the server. At least they are not on the server. However there used to be much smaller versions of these files which could have been transfered
before the profile size exceeded its limit. Since these file seem not to be part of the roaming part of the profile, they should not count for the roaming profile size. However, they definitely do. Neglecting the registry files the largest file in my profile
is less than 500kb and there are very few files of this size. I checked locally as well as on our server.
Deleting the local profile and starting fresh using the roaming profile from our server does work for a day or two but then I run into the same problem. Especially, loosing all local profile data is inconvenient. I could start a new with a completely new
profile, but I am not convinced that it is a profile issue. In our organisation my computer is one of the first to move to Windows 8.1. Since my profile worked without problems for years now, I am worried that I ran into a Windows 8.1 issue. As users normally
start to complain about a roaming profile not synchronizing only after their local copy broke, I'd like to make sure that this is a isolated issue.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any hint on how to solve the problem?
    Regards,
    Oliver

No, I did not find a solution. However, we moved away from roaming profiles and rely on folder redirection only. That works for us. Since we can redirect the most important folders there is no more need for roaming profiles (at least in our case).
