Using e-mail reminders with Gmail

My e-mail account are all Gmail, and apparently this causes my e-mail reminders to go into my gMail web mail but not get forwarded to my Mail.app because they were sent by "Me." Is there a workaround this in iCal, Mail or Gmail?

Try turning the account off and on and see if they disappear : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    MAIL Preferences / Composing / Addressing / Send new messages from account of selected mailbox = SHOWING as the option to use.
    This is only happening in one of my four email accounts...
    Thanks for your help!

    As Ernie said, you need to create an SMTP server for each gmail account with the correct username and password. Be sure the correct server for each account is listed in the SMTP box and check the box to use only that server for that account.
    Gmail's default behavior when sending from one account through another account's outgoing server is to change the address to the server which is used. Same goes if I send a message from my ATT/Yahoo account and use gmail's server to send through. It will change the ATT address to the gmail address.
    There is an option in gmail's settings under the Account's tab under Send Mail As. You can add different gmail or other accounts such as Yahoo to this and choose how the gmail server handles it. You can set it to send as the sending account and not change the address. I've used this many times for my ATT account for sending through gmail when ATT accounts were having problems.
    You can add the different accounts to each gmail account you have.

    I am using the Mail Program with my Gmail acoount. It works fine except Mail automatically bcc:s me on every email I send. I checked the Mail preferences and the box is unchecked in the composing section "Automatically cc: myself".
    This does not happen when I use the Gmail.com web access, only when I send emails through mail.

  • Mail.app with gmail setup question

    hello,
    i have a large gmail account i have been using with mail.app for a long time and all works normally. however the "gmail style" is getting a bit out of control for me with the duplicates in sent/all mail. my processing is simple, after reading an email i archive it (so my inbox is always clean) so it means i move it to all mail. but since sent messages are also in all mail i'm pretty sure mail.app is storing these messages twice and whenever you search for messages you always have to filter through the duplicates. I think there are some newer ways to sync mail.app with gmail and i just wanted to ask what's the best solution to this common issue?
    thank you,
    rick

    thanks for the reply. yes that is what i do sorry if i wasn't clear enough. actually the messages coming in are not duplicated since once i move them to All Mail there is only one copy there in All Mail. it's the sent messages since they are saved once in Sent and once in All Mail. does that make sense and how do other deal with this?
    thanks again,
    rick

    How can I use apple mail (linked to gmail) and get it to only do autofill on the contacts that I have in apple address book? Everytime I write an email on the Apple mail app (as well as in Gmail) it recommends a bunch of emails that are not my contacts. I want it to just autofill for the contacts that I have in my address book. Is this possible? Thank you. I have an Imac Intel version and an Iphone 5 phone.

    Problem with Thunderbird email:
    When I send email using a mailing list, with my email included in the list, the message shows up in my Sent list and others receive it but it does not come to my email Inbox. The same problem occurs when I send the email to the mailing list addresses individually. When I send a simple test message to myself, I do receive it in my Inbox. Can you help me??

    Are you using either cc or bcc? Is googlemail involved? Some email providers suppress cc's and bcc's to oneself since you will have a copy in your Sent folder.

  • Using Verizon SMTP Server with GMail

    GMail now offers sending from an external SMTP server.  I have Verizon FIOS and would like to send email using outgoing.verizon.net (so that the email appears from another non-gmail account without the "on behalf of..." header information).  However, when trying to configure the GMail settings, I get the following message:
    Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
    [Server response: Remote server does not support TLS code(500) ]
    I am using the correct username/password.  Is it possible to use outgoing.verizon.net with GMail?

    Where are you trying to configure this? Is it a web-based page or in a client? If it's a client, which one?
    For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up  fictional account "[email protected]" and the password for logging into that  account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
    The settings for using Verizon's outgoing server would be:
    Server: outgoing.verizon.net
    Server Requires Authentication: Yes
    Username: fakeacct
    Password: fakepassword
    Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)
    These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server name is: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
    Hope this helps!

  • Messages getting corrupted in Mail app with Gmail

    I'm having a following recurring problem with Mail app and my Gmail (company) account: At least once a day Mail app database is getting corrupted / out of sync with Gmail account. Mail is showing most of the mails correctly in the UI but some of the new messages are not the right ones but rather copies of older, typically already deleted emails. I.e. Instead of showing the real new msg content (subject, sender, msg body) it is showing in its place an older already deleted msg. How do I know: I go and check what Gmail webmail shows in browser window.
    Rebuilding account sometimes works, often not. Usually I have to rebuild, close mail app, start again to get it back in sync. I have tried once deleting all Envelope-index files in Mail Library so that it did a longer rebuild. Helped for few hours and then this started again. Mail app is getting corrupted at least once a day. Very annoying because I cannot trust what I see, but have to check constantly webmail, which I would rather not use as my main tool for mail.
    This problem started already with Lion and continued with Mountain Lion.
    I guess next step is to delete all my account & setting and re-configure Mail app. Any other tips?

    I'll chime in here to say that it affects me too.
    Using gmail and mail ActOn to move messages around in mail.app. I'll start trying to see if I can make the corruption happen without using ActOn. I didn't have this problem in 10.4; and I only spent a week with 10.5 so I don't remember it happening then.
    How do you identify the messages in the the finder for deleting so they can be re-downloaded? I've been accessing my corrupted attachments through gmail's web interface, so your work around would be easier than mine, assuming there is an easy way to find the right message.

  • Using "send mail as" with google sync

    I recently migrated from an Android Phone to the Iphone 4s. I set my mail, contacts, and calenders up to sync through google sync. It is working well except the "send mail as" feature. I run 2 different email addresses through my gmail. I have my personal gmail address and my business domain address I use for work. On my android phone when I am composing an email on my phone I have the ability to choose wether I am sending the mail from my business or personal email. I have found this feature extremely useful.
    I got very excited after I read that you can enable "send mail as" on google sync with ios. I went to google sync site on my safari browser and enabled the feature. I then synced the phone again. I don't know what I am missing but I do not see an option in the mail app to change the address I am sending from? Is there something else I need to enable or I am missing a simple menu that is hidden? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

    Very helpful.  Please stop spreading your FUD* you elitest know-it-all.
    This is NOT a google issue. It's an APPLE issue.  APPLE'S iOS Mail App does not properly support IMAP, the very popular, very standardized protocol with which gmail (and countless other mail services) communicates with any 3rd party.  (for clarity theres' also POP3 but doesn't matter here).
    Let's look at a few simple observations, k?
    Sender aliasing with gmail (once configured in your gmail account) works with
    Thunderbird - a real IMAP client -and I think even with Outlook, arguably useless as a mail client by many yardsticks.
    It works in Thunderbird on Windows.
    it works in Thunderbird on a Mac.
    It works in Apple Mail.app, on a Mac.
    It works in the gmail app on iOS.
    Are you getting the sense there's a pattern here??  I am!
    It works EVERYWHERE there's a decent mail client to support it...
    But it doesn't work in APPLE'S MAIL on iOS.**
    Hmmmmm...
    Oh, ok.. you're right.  Must be a gmail thing...
    oh wait, didn't work when I set up my business email server either...  hmmm.
    Nahh.  You're right.  Still must be gmail's fault...
    </sarcasm>
    * Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt.
    ** It could probably work in ANOTHER imap client on iOS but we'll never know what such a thing looks like because AAPL won't allow it (!!?)  It could even work in Apple's client if they'd bring it up to circa 1998 standards..

  • Repeatedly mac mail corrupt with gmail

    Hi,
    On a client's macair with IOS 10.9.2 he uses Mac Mail, with 4 mail accounts. Two are simple POP accounts.  Two are IMAP accounts sync with business Google Gmail accounts.  Three times in the past 6 weeks one of his Gmail accounts (e.g. [email protected]) becomes corrupt where Mac Mail does not send.emails and stops showing new incoming email.  Just this one Gmail account.  Mail continues to work OK from other devices with this account loaded (e.g. iPhone, one other machine with this account loaded or via browsers).
    Connection Doctor, Rebuilds do not resolve the issue.  Plenty of free space on the unit.
    To fix it I remove this account then add it (as new) again.  Then all works well for a week or two. Fortunately as an IMAP account no emails or information is lost.  About 2.04 GB in this account, so it takes time to re-download.
    So what s the underlying issue and what do I do to prevent this from recurring?  Help!
    Thanks

    update. Maverick Version is 10.9.4, Mail is V 7.3
    Within Mail, going to Mailbox, Sync shows just this one account greyed out.

  • I get an "SSL" error when trying to configure my mail settings with Gmail.

    I have been trying to configure Gmail on my IPod and I keep getting a message that it cannot connect with SSL. I did not have this problem on my old IPod, which I replaced recently. I restored the settings on my new IPod from a backup on my computer and everything else has been working fine except the mail. Has anyone else had a a problem with Gmail? Any way I can get around it?

    - First try resetting the iPod:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
    button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next, go to the GMail settings and turn off SSL.  Try and then if necessary, turn it back on.

  • Difficulty consistently syncing mail.app with gmail IMAP

However, when I move a folder from inbox to a gmail folder (within mail.app) that gmail folder shows up as empty and only through gmail webmail does it show up!ail! I've got four emails in my @W-F folder on gmail, but while the @W-F imapped folder shows up in mail.app, the emails within it do not. Please help with this syncing problem. I sincerely appreciate it. Hi patrico.
    If I’ve understood it correctly, it’s as if Mail was simply not checking for mail on the server...
    Could it be that the account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
    What’s the time interval chosen in Preferences > General > Check for new mail?
    Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail ON or OFF?
    <hr>
    Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
    To make accurately reporting this information easier, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you may just copy it from this post and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You may then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

    You can use InitialContext ic = new InitialContext() only if you are using a startup class, servlet or a JSP i.e
    server side code.
    If you are using a java client you need to use Context ic = getInitialContext();
    Try this code
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.activation.*;
    import javax.mail.*;
    import javax.mail.internet.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.InetAddress;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import java.util.Date;
    public class MailTo {
    public static void main(String args[])
    try {
    Properties h = new Properties();
    h.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    h.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");
    Context ic = new InitialContext(h);
    Session session = (Session) ic.lookup("testSession");
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.transport.protocol", "smtp");
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", "XX.XX.XX.XX");
    props.put("mail.from", "[email protected]");

    Message msg = new MimeMessage(session2);
    msg.setFrom();
    msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.TO,InternetAddress.parse("[email protected]",false));
    msg.setSubject("Test Message");
    msg.setSentDate(new Date());
    MimeBodyPart mbp = new MimeBodyPart();
    mbp.setText("This is a mail sent to you using JAVA Mail API and Weblogic Server");
    Multipart mp = new MimeMultipart();
    mp.addBodyPart(mbp);
    msg.setContent(mp);

  • Using icloud as primary incoming/outgoing mail server with Gmail

    VZW CDMA/LTE IPhone 5-16gb
    I won't provide my serial # unless certain digits have aNy bearing upon these issues.
    I was wondering if anybody could help me configure my iPhone 5 to use the icloud mail server as the primary server for both my icloud account and my gmail account as well?
    Is this possible to do or do I still need the gmail server as well?
    I've read that the icloud server provides message encryption as well..?
    Any help would be awesome. I just feel like with having 3 email accounts, it's sucking the power out of my phone and it also tends to get very
    Hot at times under any kind of load (playing a racing game for over 20 mins, syncing device, etc)
    Is this also not normal as well?
    I just feel as if this phone should be much faster, especially handling processes, sync, even my wifi speeds suffer over a wifi connection between 20-30mbps DL and 12mbps upload. I've tried resets of network settings,,airplane on/off, renewing lease, closing programs etc.
    Can someone please help, it's greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Chris A.

    I got SMTP relay through Gmail working with the help of this little tutorial. Basically you just need to tweak the Postfix config files to leverage SSL.

  • Mail Crashes with Gmail

    I'm having trouble with Mail.app crashing when I try to set it up to use my gmail account. It is able to do the little mail wizard dialog, is able to log into gmail fine, and sets up the account. Then mail crashes.
    So, I tried setting it up on a different mac - gmail setup fine on my 2nd machine. I then had MobileMe sync the info over to my 1st machine.
    Mail crashed on the 1st machine. And, more importantly, mail will start, wait a few seconds, then crash.
    So, I deleted gmail from the 2nd machine, synced with mobileme (so I won't sync over the gmail account that is crashing). Next, I removed ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail..plist. I signed out of MobileMe (from System Settings). That should remove MobileMe as a source of problems.
    I started up Mail. Mail now has no accounts (as expected), and asks to set up an account. So, I try to set up gmail. Mail crashes after it sets up the account. And it keeps crashing when I try to restart mail. (After a couple of seconds).
    Again, I deleted all mail preferences, which lets me at least start mail again.
    Next, I tried creating a "new" username (OS X User account). From the new OS X User Account, I started mail.app. I added the gmail account. And everything worked... no crash, nothing.
    So, now I'm wondering what is "wrong" with my normal account such that I can't use gmail. When I deleted my ~/Library/Mail folder, any mail "Bundle" applications went with it. Since I'm seeing the same error after removing ~/Library/Mail (with no bundles in it anymore), I'm doubting it's the one mail bundle I've been using.
    Is there anything else to check?
    ps. I'm not interested in any other email clients. Any suggestions to use something else will be ignored.

    It gets weirder:
    If I "trick" Mail's setup by having it use some random server (so I can manually input all of the settings), I am able to access gmail via IMAP & SMTP.
    So I can get it to work... BUT, there's a "funny" caveat:
    Under Mail's preferences (Accounts tab), there is the 'Description', 'Email Address', etc. information.
    Well, if 'Email address' is a bogus address, it works (Still the correct username/pw/server information, though).
    If I set it to the actual email address, Mail then asks to save the settings - and if I click "yes" mail immediately crashes.
    O.o
