Using E51 as a modem to dial a data call

Hi,
When I send the following to the phone via the USB cable:
ATDT0211234567
I get the message: 'NO CARRIER'.
What exactly does this mean? If I use a regular modem + phone line the system works fine.
TIA.
Glen.

I'm sorry but this is a hard question for me to answer. I believe that you will have to turn to our developer site to get some info about this.

  • E50 as modem - answering incoming data call?

I'm trying to use an E50 as a modem to answer incoming data calls to a properly configured Windows Server 2003 RRAS setup (I know RRAS is set up correctly because I can make incoming calls via a landline modem).
The phone answers the incoming data call, and bleeps for a couple of minutes, then drops the call. There's nothing in the event log saying that anything got from the modem driver into the RRAS system.
    Where do I start looking?

You have incoming data activated from your mobile operator?

I get the following error message when I connect a usb ethernet adapter to my new MacBook Pro: Unsupported - You cannot use an Apple USB Modem with this computer. I live where we only have dial-up and the Apple Store said this is what I need. In addition, when I connect the phone to the connecter it falls out, it will not click in.

Why are you using a usb ethernet adaptor? Just plug the modem into the usb port.

  • Using a Bluetooth phone as a dial up modem.

    Hi,
When setting up my phone with my MacBook I'm given two options: Connect to the internet using GPRS, or use it as a phone to dial in to a provider.
In Canada data access is very expensive, but would using my phone as a dial-up modem count on my bill as data access or would it show up as a regular call?
    Thanks.
P.S. My wireless provider is Rogers, if that matters.

I think SIG has the answer, but I tried to find out on their various sites... seems that until you take the Hook, they won't tell you what the Line costs, then the cost of the Sinker will only be revealed once you get the Bill!
I think if they've picked up any traits from down here in GW land, that whatever YOU want to do will cost more than expected, and use the worst option for you!

  • Internet connectivity using E51 modem through USB

    Dear ALL,
I have been using my E51 as a modem for my laptop. After 2 days of usage the USB driver reinstalled automatically. After then I couldn't use the phone to browse the net. Whenever, I try to establish the connection the program says connection could not be established as another program is accessing or the modem is not configured properly.
After, trying lot of stuff. I uninstalled all the nokia programs from my computer.
Yesterday, I downloaded the latest PC Suite 7.1 and installed it. But when i click on the internet it says modem not found. Later, I couldn't find the USB icon at the bottom most toolbar.
The issue with drivers usually come up when the USB is disconnected manually (Usually we have to remove it safely by stoping all programs).
    Can NOKIA please help me?

Try going to your pc control panal > add/remove program > look for pc connectivity sollution > change > repair.
you must be logged in with the admin account.
-then try to connect using one touch access from PC Suite again.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

sophieinsydney, these boards are for user-to-user support only. They're not the place to get support from Nokia. If you want to get help from Nokia, you should use the 'Contact us' link at the top of the page to contact your local Nokia team.
You might also want to read over the Discussion Board Guidelines which is something everyone should read before posting on the boards. It explains this and other things.

  • Using C6 as a modem via USB in MacBook Pro

I'm having trouble connecting my MacBook Pro to Internet via C6.
I would like to use it via USB. My system in Mac is 10.5.8
Can someone tell me what to do?

Do you have an IBM / Lenovo Laptop?
I do and I checked the event logs and noticed failure 680 which indicated that no dial tone could be obtained (cable not plugged it) or similar symptom.
I used to receive the error "one touch access failed to establish a network connection" using the Nokia PC Suite. I checked under start | settings | network connections and selected properties on the valid dial-up device. Then I noticed that the device was using the Internal Thinkpad modem instead of the Nokia. This explained the error 680 as the Thinkpad modem was not cabled to the phone line. After changing the connect using device from thinkpad to Nokia all worked well.

  • Using N95 as a Modem Via USB on O2UK Network

Hi I am trying to connect to the internet with my laptop using the N95 as a modem via USB. I have tried a couple of different ways to do this. I've tried using the one touch access in Nokia PC suite and it gets up to the part where it says "verifying username and password" then says unable to establish a connection. I have also tried connecting from the "connect to" tab in the start menu on xp (also tried vista) and selecting my mobile as the modem through which to connect. I am an O2UK Customer and i have been told the user name and pass to use to connect is user=mobileweb and password=password. Im sure this is true because it does get past the verifying username and password bit when i do it this way. But when it gets to the "Registering your computer on the network" part it fails.
What am i doing wrong. I have tried this in both GSM and UMTS mode.
are there any other O2UK Customers who have managed to use their N95 as a modem? If so please can you post here and explain how i do it.
Any help is greatly appreciatedMessage Edited by n95nooby on 29-Oct-200703:05 AM

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • My imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an 2wire DSL modem.

Help my brand new imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an "2WIRE" DSL modem.  Windstream tech service is useless.  i can connect with the built in router through Ethernet or wireless, but still no connecting to internet, help!  windstream said everything is working on their end, yea right.  What i do know is that both the mac and ipad work at other places and can connect with wireless connected to the internet, so i know it's not the apple products.
these are brand new machines with lion.
This is my first mac, so I’m still new to how it works, which is not helping either so a detailed help would be great.  Please help before my wife losses it
    thanks

There is a 2701HG-B, and a 2701HG-D.  If not labelled on the modem, ask Windstream which one they presently supply or how to tell the difference.
By the way tell your wife it isn't that bad.  At least you have an ethernet DSL modem.  There were times where DSL modems had RJ-11, USB, and Ethernet, and all three were used to provide access.  At least now only the craziest DSL providers still use those modems.

  • Can I use a non-FiOS modem for secondary ethernet from FiOS coax

I intend to set up a home theater PC to connect to a TV located in a different room from the current FiOS modem/router (Actiontec MI424). I may use an HTPC 'extender' in the room with the TV, connected by HDMI.  However the Ceton Echo extender requires a direct ethernet connection, CAT5 I think.  What I'm considering in a few months, when my Verizon contract is up, is to drop all service except high speed internet from Verizon.  Then I could use the coax currently connected to the TV instead to connect to a modem or MoCA device which would output CAT5 ethernet to the HTPC extender.
I am not knowledgeable about ethernet and TV signals.  From what I can gather, a MoCA connection is preferable to a powerline network and maybe even better than running a long CAT5/CAT6 cable from room to room, which I don't want to do.  There is an Actiontec MoCA device available that claims to 'convert' from coax cable internet input to ethernet output.  Would this work to supply the Ceton extender using the FiOS coax that currently supplies TV signals to my Verizon set-top box?
Even more preferable to me, I currently have an unused Zoom cable modem/router that is Docsis 3.0 certified and which worked well for Charter internet supplied by coax.  It is less than 2 years old.  Could I simply use this Zoom modem with the second FiOS coax in the living room, instead of buying a new MoCA device?  That would mean I would be simultaneously using two coax-connected modems for ethernet: the Verizon-supplied Actiontec and my own Zoom modem/router.   If not, what is different about the MoCA device vs. what a cable modem does?
I think what I don't understand is whether there is a difference in the signal currently available from the coax supplying the TV: is it 'normal' cable TV/internet that the Zoom modem should be able to convert to ethernet, or not?  If this is possible, would I need to have Verizon do any configuring of it?  I did try to connect it myself and was unable to make an internet connection.  How do the providers control whether you receive through the coax ethernet-only or ethernet plus TV.  I get that the phone service is just a form of VOIP managed through the Verizon ONT in the basement.
    Solved!

MOCA frequencies are above those used for TV and can coexist on the same coax.  All you need at the TV is a 1x2 splitter rated 1Ghz or better.  One side goes to the TV.  The other wide goes to the MOCA adapter.

A cat5 connection is most preferable.  Second the MOCA.  Third is powerline networking.

There are a number of available MOCA adapters.
    What is a MOCA Bridge?

That Zoom cable modem won't work.  MOCA and DOCSIS are two completely different technologies.
BTW, the Actiontec is NOT considered a modem.

VZ can enable or disable any of three services provided by the ONT individually.

  • Using built in Fax modem to fax out

I'm going start this by saying... Only if Macos X had a proper Chooser like function like classic Mac OS, and that the new Macos X help system is not as good as Apple Guide of Classic (disappointing seeing X was the meant to be the be all end all of all operating systems)...
But anyways, seeing that I have an iMac at work that only boots up in X I have been struggling to get the send/receive faxs from the computer.
I have diagramed the partial setup I have and wish to use the built in Modem that's inside the iMac Flat 17" G4 version to send receive Faxes.
    Here is the scenario.
    - I have a setup consisting of iMac G4 with X.10
    - I have a managed to see outside world via ADSL hookup
    - The ADSL line and the Fax line are two different numbers
    - Currently Only the Fax is connected directly to the Fax point, I need to also link up the Mac to the same point. Is there a splitter for such a thing?
    - I have set up the Fax so I can actually print from the Mac to it
    - I have set up the Fax so I can only send/receive faxes from/to the cannon
    - I have set up the printer/fax Preferences so to receieve fax that are based on the Fax point # and the the check box is check for allow to receieve faxes
    - I have FAXstf installed on my machine, does it conflict with the new System Faxing properties found in X.10?
    - I followed the directions presented to me from the Help docos, and the system always told me, 'Fax will be transmitted after disconnecting from Network', and it never did anything.
What are the correct procedures to follow in order to get this thing to work? Images would be nice... Reading docos isn't my thing, they remind me of the online help which MS has in place for all their applications... Web Docs is not as intuitive as guiding a user through the process like Apple Guide used to do. Just a suggestion to the Apple developers out there;/
    The diagram setup is:
    <pre>
DATA POINT <------------------> ADSL MODEM <--------> TELEPHONE POINT #1
    ^
    |
    |
    |
    v
IMAC <------------------> USB HUB <--------> CANAN 850MP MULTI FUNCTIONAL PRINTER
    ^
    |
    v ^
    INTERNAL |
    MODEM |
    ^ |
    | |
    v v
    <-------------------------------------> FAX POINT #2
    </pre>
hope the above isn't hard to understand.
    Cheers

I need the dedicated fax line due to the security system using the phone line, and that the fax should be used for faxing and telephones used for talking, unlike the previous guys comments... POTS means nothing!... People still fax you know, just like they still print... and gee the printer has been around for a little while longer than fax
But anyways... I tried to do the Fax PDF, and thats where it gets stuck... it tries to ring out but no can do. I tried this using a direct link from Mac to Fax point. Seeing that it didn't work I then hooked back the MFM to the fax point in order for the company to receive/send faxes at least from the machine.
The only reason as to my enquiry in the discussion forum is to see if I can set it up so both the MFM (fax) and the imac can send/receieve faxes at the same time or seperately. It would be beneficial to receive and send from the imac, as I'm sure we all know that printing out documents can get lost, especially when you just have one copy, and so this would at least keep an electronic copy of the item. However, during the evenings, it would be ok to have the fax machine recieves faxes or have the fax machine send faxes during the times when the computer can't. The imac is an administrative computer and at times the engineering guys need someting quick, but whats to say that the administration lady can't do it at that point in time... then they need to fax it.
The point is, is there a device which I can hook up so that the 56k fax/modem device in the imac and the MFM (fx) can go through the same point?
    thanks

I will be travelling abroad but use time machine and modem at home. Do I need to leave these switched on while away for iCloud to work?

No. iCloud has nothing to do with Time Machine on your computer, and as long as your computer has synched all desired content and settings to iCloud, not only does the modem not need to be switched on, your computer doesn't need to be on either.
