Using e51 in Japan

Hello
I wonder if it is possible to use in roaming my Nokia e51 in Japan (mostly with sms),
and what setting should I use for best results.
E51 is using umts/gsm or data transfer for sms - which setting should I use.
As I know Japan is using WCDMA system.
thanks for reply
Robert

  • Using iPad in Japan

I will be studying for a year in Japan.  I want to buy and bring an iPad.  Any advice on which one?   If I want cellular service which carrier is likely to be most useful in terms of compatibility or do none work?  Thank you

You may want to contact the program with which you'll be studying about information on getting cellular service of any kind while you're there. My understanding is that it can be a bit of a challenge for non-residents.
My other observation about traveling in Japan is that there are a lot fewer WiFi hotspots than there are in the U.S. I carry an Airport Express with me so that when I'm in a hotel that only has a wired connection, I can create my own hotspot.
    Best of luck.

  • Using Wifi in Japan

Will my ipt work in japan if wifi is available?

You're welcome. You won't have a problem with your iTouch being able to connect, the real challenge will be finding a hotspot that you can use.
Aside from a handful of Starbucks, a smattering of Fon users and Comfort Hotel lobbies, there aren't many open hotspots in Japan. The few free hotspot services like Freespot require user registration in advance before you can get access, and NTT's Flet Spot service requires PPPoE and your own ISP account (PPPoE isn't supported on iTouch).

  • Using iPod in Japan

My son is going to Japan. I'm wondering if he'll need some kind of adapter in order to safely use the charger for his iPod Mini. Anyone have experience here?
iPod Mini   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I don't own an iBook, but as with the iPod, if it's an Apple standard power adaptor (the one included in the box), you won't need a voltage converter.

  • Can i use iphone in japan

can i use my iphone in japan

Can you please specify whether you are planning to use their sim card, or international roaming?
Only Factory unlocked iphones will work with the sim card in Japan. All you need to do is put the sim card in and it should connect.
If you have a carrier locked iphone, then it is not unlocked and is locked to a carrier. If you try to put their sim card (I believe Softbank?) it will not work. You can only use it as international roaming, which can be quite costly.

  • Internet connectivity using E51 modem through USB

    Dear ALL,
I have been using my E51 as a modem for my laptop. After 2 days of usage the USB driver reinstalled automatically. After then I couldn't use the phone to browse the net. Whenever, I try to establish the connection the program says connection could not be established as another program is accessing or the modem is not configured properly.
After, trying lot of stuff. I uninstalled all the nokia programs from my computer.
Yesterday, I downloaded the latest PC Suite 7.1 and installed it. But when i click on the internet it says modem not found. Later, I couldn't find the USB icon at the bottom most toolbar.
The issue with drivers usually come up when the USB is disconnected manually (Usually we have to remove it safely by stoping all programs).
    Can NOKIA please help me?

Try going to your pc control panal > add/remove program > look for pc connectivity sollution > change > repair.
you must be logged in with the admin account.
-then try to connect using one touch access from PC Suite again.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • IPhone 3G: can I use it in Japan?

In a year or so, I may be moving permanently to Japan. If I buy an iPhone 3G here in the States, sign up for the 2-year contract and everything, will I be able to transfer my service to Softbank in Japan (by swapping out the SIM card)? I realize I probably need some way to unlock the phone, but is that the only technicality? (besides having to pay AT&T an early termination fee)
    Thanks.

Well the iPhone 3G phone is itself is fully compatible with Japan's cell network. The problem revolves around differences in how the 3G network is accessed on the iPhone 3G vs a typical Japanese handset which is indirect and traffic is usually proxied through a server on the carrier side that formats the content for the handset BEFORE it reaches the handsets browser.
The iPhone needs no such filtering and has basically a clear shot to the internet for every application run on it while every Japanese handset I have ever owned did not have the same access to the network.
So for this privilege, you pay more and a flat fee for data unlike other Japanese handsets which are typically metered using packets sent and received (old school). This difference meant the new separately provisioned iPhone specific Softbank SIM was a must for the purposes of preventing the SIM to be used by a phone that had comparable direct internet capabilities like the iPhone such as a Nokia and perhaps to prevent someone from using a metered Softbank 3G SIM which would allow an unlocked iPhone 3G to freely access the data network without an iPhone specific contract.
Actually the cell portion could work just fine on an unlocked iPhone 3G but the 3G data may not, or it would be metered which would mean stratospheric data fees. But I suspect it won't be able to connect at all on the data side. We will only know the answer to that once the iPhone 3G is unlocked and a non-iPhone 3G Softbank SIM is put in.

  • Using E51 as a modem to dial a data call

    Hi,
When I send the following to the phone via the USB cable:
    ATDT0211234567
I get the message: 'NO CARRIER'.
What exactly does this mean? If I use a regular modem + phone line the system works fine.
    TIA.
    Glen.

I'm sorry but this is a hard question for me to answer. I believe that you will have to turn to our developer site to get some info about this.

  • Using AirMac in Japan

Can somebody help me, please? I've just moved to Tokyo. My apartment is fitted with an NEC router and NEC warpster wireless (both apparently very new). For obvious reasons, I wanted to switch to Airport Extreme which I've used for years in the uK without a problem. So, i bought an AX in Tokyo, but I cannot get it to be reconised by my 15" MBP. i've tried connecting the ethernet cable from the NEC router into the MBP, but cannot make that work. If I'm doing something wrong that's really obvious, I apologise, but I'm slowly going mad!
    Any pointers, please, greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks

That's a helpful comment. I now realise that I'm going to have to put another router in between the internet connection and the AX.

You cannot. No Japanese carrier offers unlocking. You'll need to sell the phone and buy one you can actually use outside of Japan.

  • Unable to connect to my E51 using PCsuite 7.1.18.0

Have been using E51 phone with older PCsuite version for the past few months with no problem (BT connection)
After upgrade to PCsuite 7.1.18.0 began unable to connect to phone.
Downgrade back to older version of PCsuite but problem still remains.
Try to unpair phone but prompt 'Unable to unpair phone'.
Try to Rename phone id name and do a 'Search for more phone' but no new devices have been found and it looks like the search is only last for 1 sec only instead of doing a longer search.
Try to uninstall what ever BT stack in my device manager and reinstall but no success.
Would be hoping and praying for some advice on this matter.

When you say you downgraded PC Suite to earlier version, did you use PC Suite Cleaner from here as notorious for leaving corrupt registry entries behind?http://europe.nokia.com/A41198596

  • Using 3G iphone in Japan

I wonder whether I could use 3G iphone in Japan? I am using it in HK with a 3G supplier. Is it possible for me to use it in Japan?
Is it possible to use the GPRS in japan as well? When I searched Japan map here, all the maps are written in the Traditional Chinese. Will the maps turn to be Japanese while I am using in japan?

The iPhone 3G is now sold in Japan, so yes. Not sure about the map thing.
you need to check with your carrier to see what you need in Japan to ge airtime. Possibly a prepaid sim card or something
    This may help: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2223.html

  • I want to exchange my Japan iTunes card to U.S.!

I want to exchange my Japan iTunes card to U.S.!
Is there a way to do this???

You probably can't. You'll most likely need to sell the card to someone who can use it in Japan and buy a US iTunes card.

If you like my post or it helped you, Give me Kodo

I've been able to find this software which apparently allows one to do that:
Symsmb (www.telexy.com). Current ver. 3.50. Have not been able to test it though (time constraints...). It is not free but 15 days trial is available. If anyone does try it, pls. share your experience here.
Nokia should make this available free as a productivity tool...!!!
    Thanks.

  • I phone 4 locked by AT&T, can I use WIFI in another countries?

I bought my Iphone 4 in USA. I am going to Japan. As I know, as long as my phone is locked by AT&T, i cannot use in another countries, how about WIFI? Can I use WIFI in Japan even my Iphone is locked by AT&T?

Wifi has nothing to do with the lock. That is why you can turn the iPhone to Airplane mode and then turn the Wifi back on. If you have an iPhone 4, is it out of contract? If so, you can request an unlock from AT&T so you can use a local SIM card in Japan too.
