Using Echo AudioFire4 with Quicktime Broadcaster

Just purchased an Echo AudioFire4 to use as the input source for Quicktime Broadcaster on my Mac mini server.
The AudioFire4 shows up just fine in the audio source drop down and if I use either of the front panel inputs, which are inputs 1 & 2 it works.
However if I connect the source to either input 3 or 4 on the back panel it get nothing in Broadcaster. The audio shows up just fine in the AudioFire Console application. From trying the AudioFire4 with other audio applications its pretty clear that the applicaiton needs to have a place where you can choose inputs 3 &4 before you can get the audio from these inputs. So either QT Broadcaster has a place to do this I don't know about or I'm out of luck and can't use inputs 3 &4. Does anybody know of a way to make inputs 3 & 4 work with QT Broadcaster?
Thanks
Alan

I had thought of that but I am worried that i would shell out the money for one only to find out that Broadcaster doesn't recognize it. The documentation for Broadcaster claims that it requires a firewire camera. I am wondering if anyone has had any success or failure with this?
Not a QT Broadcaster user myself, but do have v1.5 installed on my G5. On reading your query, I tested it with an old, original (unstable stabilized) Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and newer Canopus ADVC-300 converters. Both were correctly identified by name if properly connected when QT Broadcaster application is opened. And, although "hot-swapping" the converters did not cause any problems while QT Broadcaster is running, neither did it force the software to rescan and identify the "change" in hardware device.
For the purpose of the tests Nikon digital still cameras (990 and D-70) with analog video output and a Sony camcorder with analog and digital outputs (in both tape and throughput modes) were used as the source and the output was recorded/saved as a QT movie file by QT Broadcaster. While I could only get the D-70 to output singleframes (didn't take the time to look for the book), all other sources produced much better quality than expected using the default DV to QVGA/15fps settings -- even when using an old 1930's B&W movie as the taped source.

  • Using a non-firewire cam with quicktime broadcaster

I have this very nice ptz analogue video conferencing camera... worth about $2000 to tell the truth. I would love to be able to use it with quicktime broadcaster. The problem is the video output is S-video, not fire wire. Does anyone know of some sort of hardware adapter or something that can take the S-video signal and output it in such a way that will trick quicktime broadcaster into thinking that there is a firewire video cam connected?
    any suggestions would be appreciated

  • ISight with QuickTime Broadcaster or QuickTime Streaming Server

Could some one tell me if it is possible to use iSight with QuickTime Broadcaster or QuickTime Streaming Server
    Thank you
    G4 DP Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yup. It is. Those, and other apps that will work with iSight, are linked in Some Applications You Can Use With iSight.
See the Apple links and tutorials for specifics on the uses of these powerful applications.
For a quick "how-to" on capturing video on your Mac using QT Broadcaster, scroll down to the Capturing Video with QuickTime Broadcaster section of this article on Making Movies with the Apple iSight .

  • Can't sleep iMac display with Quicktime Broadcaster

When I run Quicktime Broadcaster on my iMac, the computer's display will not sleep. I clearly don't want the monitor on 24 hours a day. I can briefly force the display to sleep with hot corners set to sleep the display, but it will wake within a minute or so.
If I quit Quicktime Broadcaster the display will sleep just fine. Also, I don't have to actually broadcast anything for this to happen, just running does it, as will running QTBroadcaster from the command line via "broadcasterctl."
    Any ideas?

  • Using Log&Transfer with QuickTime files?

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? I have been given a drive with .mts files converted to quicktime. The file names are utterly meaningless. Example: I have 30 QT's with duplicate names in different folders, from different shooting days. Obviously I need to relog everything, give it scene/take info. Wondering if I can use Log & Transfer to log the QT files?
The footage was shot 1080p, should I just bring in the .mts files thru log&transfer, ProRes?
Suggestions and guidance very much appreciated.

Thank you for your reply -
The .mov files are Apple ProRes 422(HQ).
As mentioned earlier I also have the original .mts files. Everything was shot AVCHD 1080p.
Short of slogging through thousands of incorrectly labeled .mov files I was thinking of just starting fresh with Log & Capture of the original .mts files.
One of the reasons I'm thinking of working with the .mts files and Log & Capture is that I can rename the clips while retaining the metadata of the original .mts files. My understanding is that this will preserve the link between the 'work print' and the camera original 'negative' so to speak. It will also afford me the easy ability to work in ProRes proxy and uprez later, tho I assume I can bring in the 'mov as proxy and do the same thing?
I've been known to be totally wrong and thus, I am here seeking wisdom.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster: Only with OS X Server?

Talk about austerity! I have what must be the simplest set-up. PowerMac G5, 12 Mbps cable connection (ethernet), iSight, and QT Broadcaster. The sum of that is that I immediately get a 5420 cannot connect to server error. There is nothing in QTBB Help, and I find nothing by searching Apple's support files. I don't even find anything that could qualify as instructions on how to use the application.
Does it work only with the $500 OS X Server?

  • Help using Quicktime Broadcaster

Alright, so we want to set up a small, live internet broadcasting of some church services. We're still trying to figure out how to do this though. We're going to use my Macbook and use Quicktime Broadcaster. How do set my application up to send out the audio stream and how do others connect to the stream? Also, do the receivers have to be Mac users with Quicktime Broadcaster or can it be PC users with Winamp or Quicktime for Windows or Windows Media Player?? Any help, suggestions about other programs or alternative ways would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • QuickTime Broadcaster camera settings ignored

Since there does not seem to be a separate forum for QuickTime Broadcaster, I'll put my question here...
I am using a cheap little Logitech USB webcam with QuickTime Broadcaster. It works fine, but after I set up brightness, contrast etc in the camera Options window, the settings go back to the defaults when I turn on the broadcast. This is not the case if I use the built-in camera on my MacBook -- the settings stick where I want them. Any suggestions?
    Thanks...

I discovered that if I use the Macam app to adjust the Logitech camera settings, and save them, that those settings are then used as the defaults within QuickTime Broadcaster.
    Problem solved.

  • Streaming Audio A2DP and Airport solutions or Quicktime Broadcaster...

    Hi everyone,
(first post for me, I hope this is not the wrong place for this)
So here it is : another topic about audio streaming, sorry about that.
What I want to do : Since all my music is on my Macbook with Leopard, I want to be able to stream less or more in real time some audio from iTunes, and maybe later if possible audio from movies or else outside iTunes. The stream has to be played on my stereo speakers that are currently plugged on my desktop Windows computer.
I know there is couple of solutions for that, and here is what I tried :
The airport express was the first easy thing, worked quite good but couple of things could have been better :
    - This imply that you put on your network a 54G device (trying to avoid that to go fully N)
    - You can not really use something that is not on itunes (Airfoil enables it, but still limitations) About that I ll be glad to hear from you if someone tried to stream from a movie with that - issues with a/v sync?, etc..
Then I thought about using A2DP, but the Leopard support seams not reliable, so I did not try to buy an A2DP receiver - that has an audio output for your speakers. There is couple of them on the market (http://sonyfanboy.wordpress.com/2007/05/27/new-sony-a2dp-bluetooth-receiver-tdm- bt1/), but some reports indicate that the sound is bad, the range is poor, and it interferes with the wifi. - any comments on that would be appreciated! - also - do you have an a/v sync if you play a video this way?
The third solution is the one I am using for now. Not perfect, but the better for me so far:
I am using a combination of Quicktime Broadcaster, Soundflower and Soundsource to create a virtual sound card that stream everyhing that is sent to it. On the other side my desktop computer receives the stream via either Vlc or Quicktime.
This works quite well since everything goes through the existing network (My desktop has a 100mb link to my router). I had to look for the right settings for quite a while, and sometime Quicktime broadcaster has strange behavior (stops responding while launching or closing, or when starting or stopping the broadcast). But once it is launched and broadcasting, it is solid - the broadcast can sometimes be on for couple of days without me noticing it. Since I am using vbr, the stream is going down to about 15Kb/s when no sound is played on the macbook.
Still, It would be nice to have a solution that is more flexible, maybe with no latency to watch movies, and maybe something that does not need my pc to be started and to run a client to play the stream.
So I am looking for some insights about similar solutions : maybe one of this internet radios that would pick up the broadcast, but also that would output the sounds on external speakers.
That s it, I am done typing. Sorry for my English and this (too long) post. Again, comments appreciated.
The problem remains here the latency (at least one second even with all cache or buffer turned down) - so you can not stream the audio of a movie that you watch on a wireless device.
    Vincent

The audio found on a CD is recorded using 44.1 kHz.
Your DV camera records at 48 kHz only because that is the setting used in .dv files.
It's a waste of bandwidth to use such a high setting. Heck. You probably don't even need "stereo".

  • Quicktime Broadcaster on iBook Clamshell (G3-466Mhz-FireWire-520MB) ?

    All,
Not sure if this is the right place to post that - can't find any other...
    I have an opportunity to acquire an iBook Clamshell or a good price. It has 466MGZ, 512MB RAM, 8MB Vid, and a 10GB HD - Model M6411;
I want to use it to run Quicktime Broadcaster to live encode video from a FW device; The hardware requirements on the broadcater homepage are PPCG3 - 128MB - but they recommend intel or G5 for H.264 encoding. I know for afact that a G4 1.2 is enough to do it.. ;but what about the G3 specs ...?
    any idea or advice ?
    thanks
    laurent

If you used QuickTime 6 and Sorenson Video you might squeak by.
QuickTime 7 and H.264 wouldn't work on that CPU.
You could barely even view H.264 encoded files on that machine let alone create them in "real time".

  • Iphoto movie wont open with quicktime

Movies in Iphoto used to play with quicktime but have stopped playing

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
2 - try playing the videos again in iPhoto.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Best settings to export with Quicktime to 1080i

I made my movie with iMovie.
Now I want to export it with the best HD quality.
I use +share - export with quicktime+ and then what are the best settings?
    thank in advance.

    It depends.
If you are burning a BluRay Disk, use Export using Quicktime to Apple Intermediate Codec.
This will produce a very large intermediate file, but you will not need it after burning your BluRay disk with Toast 9.
    Details:
    Share as Quictime...
    Quicktime Movie
    Compression Type: AIC
    Frame Rate: Current
Compressor preset: Other. interlaced, top field first
If you want to play the file on your Mac, or on a Sony PS3, you will want to create a more compressed file.
    Use
    1) export from iMovie using Share using Quicktime...
    2) select format MPEG-4
    3) select options:
    a) under file format select MP4 (not MP4 ISMA)
    b) under video tab select H.264
data rate in of 18000 kbits/sec
    image size---1920X1080HD
    frame rate---select 29.97 (I am NTSC)
key frame---select either automatic or every 24 frames
video options---select "MAIN" profile and single pass encoding
under audio tab select default AAC-LC
under streaming tab select default "not enabled"

  • Using QuickTime Broadcaster with QuickTime Player

I have one computer streaming video/audio using QuickTime Broadcaster. How are you supposed to view the stream with QuickTime Player on another computer? None of the QuickTime docs says how you view a stream. I tried entering the IP address of my broadcast computer into the Open URL field, but nothing happens. I have the latest SW on everything.

Thanks. This helped, although it still didn't work. I found the solution in the help file although I still had to experiment. The description below is one way for it to work, although there are probably other ways.
To get it to work from one computer to another, you have to export from the QTB an sdp file. This file gets stored on the viewing computer. On the QTB computer, on the Network tab, the IP address needs to be the viewing computer's IP. Once broadcasting, the QT Player on the viewing computer opens the sdp file. It should then work. If anything on QTB get changed (MPEG-4, etc), you need to export another sdp file.

  • Distorted recording with QuickTime 7 using USB Audio CODEC

I am running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.8 with all the latest update from Software Update which includes QuickTime 7.1.3.
I am using QuickTime Broadcaster to stream back to itself (loopback) and record to disk at the same time. The input audio device is set to USB Audio CODEC (the default driver that comes with Mac OS X Tiger, and I am using an Alesis MultiMix 16USB mixer on a PowerMac Dual Core G5). I am using MPEG-4 Audio compression (no Video) of 16-bit, 44.1kHz and 128kbps (stereo).
The problem is that sometimes I get recordings (ranging from 1.5 hours to 2.75hours long) with distortion. Here is a short 20-second audio clip with distortion-free audio for about 6 seconds and then distortion sets in:
    http://www.netmedia.com.sg/files/SampleDistortion20s.mov
Whether it overlays on top of the original audio or replaces it, I cannot tell, but the transition is instant and smooth with no audible clicks or pops. The distortion can come in and go randomly. For example, I had one recording with distortion coming in at about 2 minutes plus and it remained until about 2hr10min when the distortion went away. Sometimes it didn't go away; other times it came in about an hour later. I also had once where the distortion last only for about 6 minutes somewhere in the middle of a 2.25 hours recording...all in all, it occurs at random. And I do get distortion-free recordings.
This problem also occurs on an iMac G5 with a Alesis MultiMix 12USB mixer, and in another Vara Software's Videocue PRO software which uses QuickTime for recording and playback. QuickTime 7.0.x and all versions of 7.1 also had this problem.
Because of this problem, I may need to use a convoluted method to stream and record to disk via QuickTime. By the way, I also tried streaming to another local subnet IP address just as a troubleshooting without success.

I too am having distortion problem (Sorry no solution here).
    Using OS 10.4.8, QT7.1.3, & Adobe Premiere 6.5 on a G4.
After I down loaded QT 7.1.3, my problems started. Is this when your problems started too?
Audio is in "slow motion" sound when editing. On rare occations, it sounds correct for 10 sec or so but sync is out and eventually reverts to "slow motion" sound. Even more bazar, when viewing a clip in a thumbnail preview, it works fine. So I know the orginal is good.
My contention is QT is causing this. All I want is my previous version of QT back. I think this might fix your problem too. Unfortunately, there is no reinstall that I can find that takes QT 7.1.3 off and puts QT 7.1.1or2. The reinstall QT 7.0.3 which is on the Apple website will not restall.
Looking for a reintall that will take QT 7.1.3 off, help anyone?

The problem is that I usually get recordings (ranging from 1.5 hours to 2.75hours long) with distortion. The distortion sounds like audio going through Logic Pro's BitCrusher plug-in, that is, audio recorded with less than 8-bit resolution but kept at 44.1kHz sample rate. Whether it overlays on top of the original audio or replaces it, I cannot tell, but the transition is instant and smooth with no audible clicks or pops. The distortion can come in and go randomly.
