Using Element 31" LCD TV as display

I have a 2008 macbookpro15 with the big video output plug on the upper right side as you face the computer. In the past I have used it successfully with my 2008 vintage 46" samsung to display photos stored in iphoto. (mac output to HDMI input). now with this new TV I get the MAC screen turning opaque gray blue, a line scrolling up the screen and then a message in 5 languages saying I have to restart.meanwhile the TV screen says "no input". when I push the power button it will not restart and the only option is to hold the power button down for a minute and then it shuts off. everything else (DISH DVR & Panasonic blue ray) works with either HDMI inpute just fine. Don't suggest I go to preferences because once it's hooked up, it's locked up in the warning message mode. thanks.

The problem is the way the iBooks are designed to output a secondary video signal. In most computers, attaching a secondary monitor gives you the option to either mirror your first display (ie, a copy) or extend your desktop (giving you twice the space for, say, icons).
iBooks, on the other hand, only have the ability to mirror. The ability to extend your desktop to the external monitor has been disabled in the firmware. This means that your iBook, essentially, sends the *exact same* video signal to both screens. What you see on your laptop screen is what you get on the LCD. Including resolution.
If I recall correctly, you can scale that image down, but not up. The grainy image your describing is the signal being, as you said, blown up by the monitor itself.
Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about this. There are ways of hacking this problem, but none of them are supported by Apple.

    Thanks

Saving each image as different size - is it an option for you?  I would save images with their name as: 20x30.png, 16x20.png etc etc.
Or explain whether you want these in a webpage  in which case only one image is necessary and different sizes are displayed with good CSS code.  this is question for Dreamweaver forum if this is what you want.

Expanding on what deggie said, with an iPad 1 the app you're using must support video out. Only the iPad 2 can mirror the screen. The apps included with the iPad that output to external monitors are given here:

For third-party apps, consult the app's documentation or contact the developer.

  • Disable my MB display while using an extenal LCD?

Hi, when i have a dual display on my macbook, and i close the display on the macbook, the computer goes to sleep, autimatically,
    yeah, that's normal.
now, if i click on the BT mighty mouse, the computer wakes up, and since the internal display is closed, my MB goes into a single display mode on the external display.
so i am wondering if its possible to toggle that single external display without going to sleep, because i beleave it wont be a good thing for my mb.?
    thanks!!

    you can open the lid
after the external screen comes on and the internal
    screen will stay off.
exactly, that's the final result i want have, use only my lcd while the internal display is off(lid stays open). but i wish i could do that without going to sleep and then wake it up.
i thought if i put MB to sleep then wake it to quickly, it will eventually break the HD.

  • Apple LCD M7649 Studio Display & Early 2008 MacPro?

Can I connect a 17" Apple LCD M7649 Studio Display with my Early 2008 MacPro?
I have one, and might pic up another, to use as my 3rd and 4th monitors (respectively) on my early 2008 Mac Pro.
I just wanted to know if these would work?
These are the ones that are self powered, and is currently working on my G4 Dual 450 PPC.
    Thanks.

You need an adapter that includes the display power supply.

Just saw your thread, and it looked like a candidate for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back the Driver issue. If your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card, then the following applies to you. You do not want to update the driver. Rather you want to roll back the driver version, probably to about May 2013. For your convenience I have done a copy/paste of the forum announcement which gives all the details and fix of the matter.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found

A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
This matter has been very specific to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce card user. So, if your computer is using other than a NVIDIA GeForce card, it is likely that the message does not apply to you, and we can then explore other troubleshooting possibities.
Looking forward to your follow up. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything written here.
    Thanks.

  • Does anyone use a second LCD

I was wandering if anyone is using a second lcd attached to their iMac and if so is the display the same or better?
The display on my dell laptop is real crisp and easy to read.
Now before you get on me for having a dell, it is something I have to use for my work.

I'm using my old Apple 17 inch LCD display for a second monitor. It's truly plug and play...except in my case I had to get two adapters: the mini-DVI to DVI and the ADC to DVI. I believe that Apple no longer puts the ADC plugs on their monitors so that shouldn't be a concern if you're considering a newer Apple monitor/display.
At any rate...you'll need the mini-DVI adapter to use a second monitor. I've had no problems at all and the resolution is beautiful. Others have reported the same results with non-Apple monitors.

  • Use iPod Photo on a larger display

I am looking to build a digital picture frame to hang on a wall. My hope is that I could build a large unit (17" display) for a lot less than I have seen them advertised. If I were to mount a 17" LCD screen within a case of some type and make it look like a frame, can I attach an iPod photo to the screen input so that the iPod provides the slideshow? This would eliminate the need for an OS or application in the frame and would allow me to use the iPod for music when not showing pictures.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
    David

One reason your frame will cost less than the ones you've seen advertised is that your image quality won't be as good. I believe the iPod photo only supports RCA video out. The Apple iPod AV Cable picture shows a cable with three jacks, probably RCA video out plus RCA stereo audio. It looks like it does basic NTSC video, approx. 640x480 if you're lucky. The quality ladder looks like this, from worst to best:
Analog NTSC video, RCA composite (iPod photo, older TVs)
Analog NTSC video, S-video (better TVs)
Analog VGA (CRT monitors, low-end analog LCDs)
Digital Video Interface (DVI) (High-end LCDs, iBooks, PowerBooks, Apple Cinema Displays)
Due to the iPod photo's video output, which is designed for a family room TV, you can't use just any LCD monitor designed for computer video input, since most of those take VGA or DVI. You will need to locate an LCD screen that has analog TV inputs that match the RCA jacks on the iPod photo AV cable. They do exist, I think Samsung makes a few.
Some do-it-yourself LCD picture frame projects use the guts and the video hardware of an old laptop. That achieves at least computer-quality video. I don't know what the expensive frames use but I guess it must be something laptop-like, such as DVI, showing far higher resolution and better color than analog NTSC.
I'm not telling you not to do it, I'm just setting your expectations. If you're happy with the way the iPod photos look on your TV, then you'll be happy with your project.
If there's another, better way to get video out of an iPod photo, someone can correct me.

  • Using mission control/spaces on extended displays

Is there a way to assign spaces and use mission control on an extended display (i.e. LCD TV) on 10.7.1?  I have connected an LCD TV as an external display to my MBP. When switching spaces on my MBP (primary) display, the external monitor transitions as well.  I have been unsuccessful utilizing multiple spaces strictly on my external display or having a static dispaly when switching spaces.  I would like to be able to switch spaces independently on each display or make a static desktop on my extended display.  Thanks

When I'm working with any other apps on my system, I can take advantage of Mission Control, but have forego these advantages when using the Creative Suite. Isn't it really about time that Adobe put some effort into supporting these OS-level features. Whether you favour Mac OS or Windows, you should be able to take advantages of the system you prefer to work on.
Is there any word on whether CS6 will support these features? (I'm not exactly holding my breath).
There is no word on anything about InDesign CS6 yet. (Those who know can't say, and I'm not aware of any substantive leaked information.)
I think that Spaces/Mission Control support is probably predicated on the Carbon to Cocoa conversion. So until InDesign is a Cocoa app, this is unlikely to improve. Personally I manage to avoid using Spaces to any significant degree, so I don't really notice these things. Have you tried Photoshop, which is a Cocoa app? Does it behave better?
I don't know to what extent these issues are specific to the app, or all tied up in libraries that are common to all the Adobe apps.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

I have just downloaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements onto my Mac Book Pro (10.9.4).  The installation to my hard drive went fine so I attempted to use Elements on an existing Photoshop file.  I did not see the Elements option in my filter menu and am uncertain as to how to "add" the Elemnts to my existing filter choices.  Please advise.

I'm sorry but it's very hard to understand what you mean. What filter menu? In which program? Do you mean you're trying to use PSE as an external editor with some other asset management program? Which one?

  • There is a lot of talk aout there about using a 27" iMac as a display with the mini displayport to displayport cable. It is so exciting! I am trying to connect a PC laptop with a VGA port to a 27" Dell Latitude D620?

In 2010 there was a question about using a 27" iMac as a display with a Dell laptop.
I am trying to connect a work Dell laptop Running Windows XP via a VGA cable to my personal iMac 27"
    running iMac 27", Mac OS X (10.6)
Has anyone tried this or know if imac 27" Mini port with a VGA adapter can work?
I apologize if I missed this discussion already
    Kind Regards
    Gilly

    Hi Gilly,
I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt.

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.
