Using elements 8 as default editor in mac iphoto - four image limit

When I "select all" of a batch of images in mac iphoto and click on "edit", PS Elements 8 opens but only accepts the first four images.
How do I get PSE to accept the entire batch.

This is an iphoto limit, not a PSE limit. iPhoto can only send four photos at a time to any external editing program.

You are prevented from Airplay mirroring certain things like DVD content as the material is usually protected so you get a checkerboard type display.  I think there is a theoretical risk that the Airplay stream could be intercepted and the protected video copied, albeitin lower quality.
Apple may be being cautious or are required to do so with the DVD player app by movie studios/licensing authorities.  It makes no sense to the average consumer who is just trying to send their purchased DVD to the TV via the computer and AppleTV.
Playback in something like VLC should work - not tried it myself but others have commented it doesn't have the restriction.

  • How to setup PS Elements as default editor for LR4?

    Hi all,
I have both PS5 and Elements 10 installed on my computer. Lightroom 4 selected automatically PS5 as my default editor. I am planning to switch completely to Elements 10, so I would prefer to have this program as my default editor. Unfortunately I do not see how to do this. Lightroom only allows me to setup additional editor and this option I am already using for Topaz Fusion Express. So my goal is to replace PS5 with Elements 10 as primary (default) editor. How to achieve this?

the default editor is set by lightroom.
When Photoshop Lightroom starts, it checks to see if Photoshop is installed. If it can't find Photoshop, it checks to see if Photoshop Elements is installed. If it can't find either, Photoshop Lightroom disables the Edit In Photoshop command. The Additional External Editor command is not affected.
If you uninstalled Photoshop CS4 after installing Photoshop CS5, some of the data required to Edit In Photoshop could have been removed. Reinstalling Photoshop CS5 fixes this issue.
On Windows, Photoshop Lightroom checks for the Photoshop.exe or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe keys in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\ directory of the registry. These keys provide the file path to the applications.
On Mac OS, Photoshop Lightroom checks for the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist or com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist files in the user's preferences folder. These files provide the file path to the applications, as well as other OS-related information about the applications. The plist files on Mac OS are created the first time applications are started. The files are also created any time the application is started and the files are not present.
however you can have as many editors as you want as presets.
thought... only the two "primary" have a keyboard shortcut.

Bridge has somehow lost its connection to CS6. Clicking on an image causes it to open in an old version of Paint I had forgotten was even on my computer. Can anyone help?

    Thank you, Curt.
I figured it out an hour or so after my original post, but forgot to revisit and update.
I still don't know how all the extension  settings were broken, CS6 was working fine until three days ago!
Anyway, thanks for responding, this seems like a very helpful forum.

I have Elements 13 (I have the hard copy) installed on my iMac using Yosemite. I do all my iPhoto work on an external drive where I have copied my iPhoto Library, can I also install Elements 13 on my external harddrive or drag Elements 13 over from my iMac so that I can do work with Elements 13 via the exteranl hard drive? Thanks tb

Yes you can store images on an external hard dive and have them referenced in Organizer. It’s best to export copies to separate folders/subfolders and that will ensure iPhoto does not get corrupted.
Alternatively you could continue to use iPhoto with the Elements Editor set up in the iPhoto prefs as your external editing app. Then there is no need to use Organizer and no need to duplicate your images.
You can then call up photos directly from iPhoto as normal with the additional option e.g.
Double-click on a thumbnail to edit in iPhoto editor.
Control (right) - click on a thumbnail to edit in the elements app.

  • IPhoto 11 and PS Elements 10 - external editor issue

My Imac has been upgraded to Mountain Lion, iPhoto 11 and PS Elements 10. Now right-clicking shots in iPhoto browser brings up external editor choice and will then open PSE 10, but not the shot ( I have to drag shot to desktop, open with PSE10, save, import back to iPhoto - a huge step backwards). Same software ( iPhoto 11 and PSE10) works fine, albeit slowly) on my Macbook Pro running Lion. Please help?

You're selecting the wrong item as the editor in the Adobe PSE folder.  It's fooled a lot of us in the past.  This is the file you want to select as the external editor:
I may be preaching to the choir here but maybe the following will enlighten a bit on using PSE as the external editor:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
My apologies if you've already seen the above.

  • What organizer is better for Mac, iPhoto or Elements 12?

This is somewhat of a re-post because I could not find a way to respond to a reply.
Right now I have duplicate libraries and want to go to one Library.  I am trying to figure out the best way to go.  It looks like I can get the same kind of organization as in the Elements organizer with iPhoto Smart Albums but I didn't know if I could import PSD files to iPhoto and Barbara B. says that iPhoto does not like PSD files.
So if I want to be able to save in PSD I need to stay with the Elements Organizer and Editor.
To make my best decision I want to know what I am loosing in general Macbook utility if I eliminate iPhoto and go with the Elements Organizer.  I have only had my Mac for a few months but I see that iPhoto drops photos in programs like Keynote very easily.  If I stay with the Elements Organizer will I loose some utility or will I be able to drag and drop everything I need to simply?
I am asking the question because I have space problems with my 9K photos now.  I only want to delete one of these libraries once and want to make the right choice.
    Thank you.

Well, the right one is the one that works best for you. I'll start by saying that in real life I don't use either one, because I dislike asset management programs, so I have no dog in this fight.
The advantages of iphoto are that it's much better integrated into OS X, has much nicer options for slideshows and projects,  and is generally a more polished performer than organizer.
The advantages of organizer are that you can save as many versions as you like, that your photos aren't in a proprietary library (you can just file>open in any program to get at an organizer photo), and it gives you more options for working with raw.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Two other options to consider would be aperture and lightroom, too.
It's not something that anyone can answer for you. It depends so much on how you like to work.

I have just downloaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements onto my Mac Book Pro (10.9.4).  The installation to my hard drive went fine so I attempted to use Elements on an existing Photoshop file.  I did not see the Elements option in my filter menu and am uncertain as to how to "add" the Elemnts to my existing filter choices.  Please advise.

I'm sorry but it's very hard to understand what you mean. What filter menu? In which program? Do you mean you're trying to use PSE as an external editor with some other asset management program? Which one?

  • Using elements 9 as external editor

Hi, I bought elements 9 today. I have all my pictures organized in aperture 3. I want to use elements as an external editor. I selected elements as the external editor in aperture 3, but when I try to edit a picture using the external editor via aperture 3, the image will not load into elements.
I get the welcome screen in elements, when I choose edit, the editor opens but no picture is loaded. I also tried to edit via elements used as external editor from aperture when I had elements open. What happens then is the exact same thing only difference is that elements opens again (so that I have to elements apps running at the same time)
Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong.

You chose the wrong file in the PSE folder. This is about iphoto, but the problem is the same with aperture, lightroom, or any other external editor. See step 2 for directions to the right file:

  • Using Aperture as external editor for iPhoto

    Hi all,
I could be classed as a "keen amatuer" I suppose. I import all my photos into iPhoto, and use it to publish photos to the web for family / friends.
I then import the "best" photos into Aperture so I can work my "magic".
I've recently returned from a very sunny Italy and I want to use Aperture's shadows / highlight editing to enhance a few pictures, then band these up onto the web using I photo.
I've set Aperture as my default editor in iPhoto, and when I double-click Aperture does open, but the photo I want to edit does not.
Is it possible to use Aperture in this way? If not, what are the best options for moving photos in and out of both of these apps? Also, I've not used Aperture's web publishing facilities. Are these as good (read "easy") as iPhoto?
I don't really want to make the move over to Aperture and completely remove iPhoto because the family know and like iPhoto to browse things.
    Cheers for the help.
    Stuart

Once your Aperture photos are in iPhoto, they are shared just like any others in iPhoto.
If you're willing to make the switch, then once you switch over to Aperture (moving over all or some of your photos), delete and re-add them to iPhoto. Then you should see any Aperture made photos. Be sure they're added and copied over so when you delete from iPhoto, you're not deleting your only copy.

  • Using Elements 10 with iPhoto

I have always used iPhoto 11  on my iMac for my photo editing and organising, but have decided to broaden my editing/organising opportunities by purchasing Elements 10, which I have just loaded successfully.
However, when I right click a photo in iPhoto 11 and select 'Edit in external editor' - although it opens up the Elements 10 workspace, the selected photo doesn't appear.
I've also tried changing in iPhoto's preferences (Advanced) to using Elements 10. Again, when editing is selected in iPhoto it opens up the Elements 10 workspace but not the photo.
Any idea what's going wrong here? An alternative is to drag & drop from iPhoto to Elements 10 editing workspace - which DOES work, but I shouldn't have to do that, should I ?

Thanks Barbara B, as usual very helpful.  From these screen shots can you tell if I have done this correctly as per your instructions ?  Is it best to store the jpegs only in the elements organizer? and keep the raw and XMP files on the hard drive or should they always be together?

  • Can I change Bridge CC default editor to photoshop elements 13?

In Bridge CC, can I change default editor to photoshop elements 13? Or at least list it as an external editor?

In bridge cc if you go to Adobe Bridge>Preferences>File Type Associations you can set pse 13 for the default for whatever file types you want.
One catch to using photoshop elements with bridge is if you open a camera raw file in the bridge camera raw, the open button will open the file into photoshop instead of photoshop elements.
You can press the Done button and then open the file into pse 13 and it should retain all the settings, though you won't be able to change some of them in the pse 13 camera raw dialog.
