Using encryption on one drive of server for W7 clients

Hi,
I run Win 2008 R2. It has an SSD boot drive, 9 Spinners and a USB attached drive.
The Spinners are 2 & 3 TB drives. Two of the 2TB drives are set up as a spanned volume
One of the spinners has several partitions.
I am considering encrypting the data on that one partition. It contains user folders that are mapped on the clients, which are Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Linux Mint
I don't want to use bit locker. I'd prefer something "other". I guess that won't be TrueCrypt given the media frenzy about that product lately.
Can someone please provide some guidance as to where to start. Perhaps some advice on whether I should do this (Opinions are fine, as long as they are respectful).

I was advised by someone else to stay away from bitlocker because if is extremely insecure (and Googling it certainly indicated there were a number of concerns for people using it). For example, the rumor that Microsoft did not impede government agencies
attempts to circumvent the encryption (to put it nicely).
Given that, a third party option is where I thought I would have to go.
But before that, I'm wondering if it is even a good idea? Can any serious agency break any encryption? Is there a performance hit that is going to annoy people? etc.
That was the sort of advice I was after.

The answer is “yes”. Two events have happened both of which concerned the Time Capsule:
The telephone company, with which I have access to the Internet and I have my email account, installed a new modum. After the technician left I had to try and get the Time Capsule and WiFi working again which ended with my having to call Apple for technical assistance. The Apple technician walked me through a number of procedural steps which effectively re-set up the Time Capsule.
Access to the Internet failed and the telephone company reset the modum. I had to call Apple again. This time the technician did not reset the Time Capsule but walked me through a number of steps tha included renaming the “site” (not the Time Capsule).
Another piece of information that may be relevant is that the MacBook Pro uses the Time Capsule for backup. Everything appears to be in order. When I enter the Time Capsule for this laptop I have backups going back for a long time.
Also, I do a weekly backup of the two computers onto another external hard drive using the Time Machine software. So I have another backup of both computers.

I know that it works marvelous for printers connected via USB, but I'd like to know if you can use it as a more general print server.

No, you can't, but what do you expect to gain by doing so?
The main advantage of the print server is to provide multi-user network access to a printer that typically only supports a single connection. Since, by definition, your printer already has a network connection and can be used by multiple users.

It sounds like you have a farm scoped solution at work. In that case you can only have a single instance of it per farm, you'd have to branch each version so they appear to be seperate solutions entirely (thus ruining your clients upgrade process).
Bluntly i don't think a single farm can manage all your user environments.

You can use only one drive at a time as a TM backup destination, though you can switch among as many drives as you like. They'll all back up the same set of files, unless you keep changing your exclusion list (which I wouldn't recommend.)

One Open Directory server for multiple businesses?

Is it possible to have one Mac OS X server seen by client computers through different domain names?
See, I have one server now, with name:
server01.it.lan
As we are managing three different companies, I'd like the users working for one particular company to see the server with that company's name:
server01.bizA.lan
or
server01.bizB.lan
...and so on.
And I'd want whatever service used by that user to have a path or address that refers to that name, even though it will point to the same server in the end...
After some reading, I have different avenues available which would each require quite some reading. So I'm turning to you to narrow the field of researches.
1. First of all, is this possible? I mean, not-too-complicated possible?
2. Where would you recommend I spend time learning?
- DNS aliases? AFP seems to go back to the primary name when I use an alias in Directory Access... (shows server01.it.lan/share instead of server01.bizA.lan/share)
- Network configuration duplicates, to have more than one IP address pointing to the same machine?
- Other ideas? I don't need/want a full walkthrough. Actually, I'd prefer to just have simple hints to direct my researches...

Using more than one PU and PC for the same database

which uses Seam, EJB3, JPA, Hibernate, Richfaces (modalPanel) and JSF.
The question I have is the following:
is there any negative consequence (memory consumption, performance hit, etc.) of using more than one persistence unit in the persistence.xml that points to the same EntityManagerFactory? I was thinking of having one PersistenceContext (Seam-managed PC - an extended PC which is conversation-scoped) which uses one PU and reserving the other PC for the modalPanel forms and backing beans (SFSBs).
The reason I needed to use this solution/approach is so that when using Hibernate MANUAL flush with SMPC, I can achieve isolated synchronization of the PersistenceContext without updating values in the modalPanel forms and vice versa.
Any tips on best practices or alternative solutions? thx.

Yes, you can use multiple iCloud accounts in multiple User Accounts on one computer, but, as you know not multiple iTunes Match accounts. Keep in mind that the two services are not the same.
Since you've posted your question to the iTunes Match forum, which it really doesn't pertain to, you might want to also post it to the iCloud on my Mac forum.

Boot server for solaris clients

Can any one give me the steps to configure a temporary boot server .. so that i can boot one of my failing server which does not have cdrom .
I do not want to configure full fledge jumpstart box .. i need it just for recovery purpose. And i want to set it up in one of my other servers .. which is running several solaris zones.

Setting up a "full" jumpstart server is quite easy. You just don't have to make lots of customizations to enable non-interactive installs.
Run the setup_install_server on the media to copy the data to the server. If using CD sets, go through each of the other disks and run the update_install_server scripts. Then run add_install_client in the destination Tool directory to set up all the config files for the client.
(It's possible to skip the first step and do the client setup from the DVD directly, but this is usually simpler).

You can use the the same wage type for both number and amount but you can't assign 2 indirect valuation method for the same wage type at 1 time. I would rather suggest you to go for some customer specific indirect valuation instead of the standard one. You can use BAdI HR_INDVAL for the same.

Well, it tends to be that saving over the network from Adobe and Quark apps "just works better" over AFP than it does over SMB.
Put another way, people wouldn't be paying $4000 for a software license form Extreme-ZIP so they can serve AFP from a Windows 2003 server if there wasn't a real benefit to this. You can get an Xserve for this same $4000

Mail deleting messages daily instead of using Mailbox Behavior to keep on server for 1 Month

I have a Mailbox Behavior for Trash set to:
Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox
Store deleted message on the server
Permanently erase messages when: One month old.
But it is not respecting the latter. The messages are deleted daily. I think this is a recent (Mavericks) gift.
Anyone having the same problem? Any solutions out there?

POP accounts will only give you control to server settings at the inbox. If you never remove it from the server, it will download all messages when you log into your account from another computer. This could be a problem with thousands of messages left on a server.
For IMAP, your inbox will atuomatically sync to the IMAP inbox, so what you do in Mail or Webmail will reflect the change at the other.
For the other mailboxes, storing messages on the server in Mail settings basically syncs the IMAP and local mailboxes like the inbox does. So, if you trash a sent message in Mail, it will trash it at the IMAP site.
If they are left in those mailboxes, then the server setting in Mail will control how long the remain in those mailboxes unless you move them or delete them manually.
If not set to store on the server, the local mailbox will not sync with the IMAP. So, deleting a sent message from the local sent mailbox will not delete the sent message in the IMAP sent mailbox.
Some accounts like GMail have settings at their site that will let you further control how mail is handled.
You can make settings to archive messages automatically when deleted from the inbox or sent folder. I believe that is the default setting in GMail. That would be what you want to save all your mail. That would keep your inbox and sent mailboxes clean. Look at your IMAP site to see what settings you can make there.
In GMail, the "all mail" is just a reflection of all messages kept and archived. You have no settings control of this mailbox on your mac in Mail. But, you can view the "all mail" under the IMAP folder in Mail.
You can still set up a smart mailbox on your mac in mail to show the messages in the "all mail" mailbox that are greater than a year old. Only those would show up in that smart mailbox and you can just select all and delete without having to visually look at all the messages in the IMAP "all mail".

I'd love the ability to have iPhone be used as a target disk for storage of small files but more importantly to, via USB, download my Digital images from my camera.
So, can I use the usb to download from the camera?
Asking too much would be having the iPhone's app put a album togeather when you download jpg's etc... but I could really use the storage of images etc...

The iPhone does not support disk mode.
The only way to transfer data to and from the iPhone is via a USB connection to your Mac. You can import photos taken by the iPhone to iPhoto just as with a digital camera and you can transfer photos (select photo albums) from iPhoto to the iPhone.
