Using Enhannce Tool to increase saturation of images viewed after iDVD...

Some points to throw out for comment.
Scanning 4x6 prints into iPhoto, then FotoMagico, to iDVD. End result is quality is good to great, with respect to sharpness, but a little washed out. Should I use the Enhance Tool in iPhoto, to restore the richness and sometimes the color balance--does applying that do anything strange to the images as they are encoded/rendered etc later in FotoMagico/iDVD? Recent customer I had expressed that images in their slideshow looked washed out (simply raising the color setting on their TV may well be the solution!)
Also, I'm using a HP Deskjet F340 All-in-One to scan. Up to 1200x2400, 48 bit color, but I scan at 300x300 for 4x6. Adaquate scanner and dpi?
Thanks, Dale

OtherCaveman:
Not sure the size you're referring to for the 4 x 6s. are you referring to 300 dpi. If you're scanning 4x6's at 300 dpi for printing that should do the job quite well.
Enhancing in iPhoto before using in MagicFoto/iDVD shouldn't have any adverse affects. I found that stills show much brighter when played the a TV from an iDVD disk than when viewed on the monitor. Same goes for video clips.
To adjust the severity of the Enhance mode you can try this hidden trick:
How to Change the Size of the Retouch and Red-Eye Removal Tool
Type Caps lockControl9
Undo caps lock
Click on the Retouch or Red-Eye Removal tool
The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle
The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the tool imparts on each pass.
This was described in the most recent MacWorld magazine, Page 90.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

How to get tools and other bars back in view after deleting show-bar?

    Hello Jouko.
You can go into View > Toolbars and select the ones you want to see. If you can't see the menu bar you can simply tab ALT on your keyboard (I think F10 works too) to show it.

  • Problem With Image View After Cropping

    Hi All,
I have a problem when I try to crop an image in CS4.  The crop tool works perfectly, however sometime the cropped image has parts of the image “out of line”  I believe the problem is just with the view, not the actual file.  I have saved the image and opened it in MS Picture Viewer and the image is perfect.
I was using Windows XP without a problem.  I have only experienced this since I upgraded to windows 7 64 bit.
Below is a screen shot of the problem, not the bottom right of the image.  Any suggestions please.
    Thanks  - Vicki

No, it was me.  Feel free to review the thread history at this URL if you'd like:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4206899
Your display driver IS out of date.  You really don't want the one from Microsoft's WHQL
If you would like to be able to use the OpenGL-specific features, listed on the page below, as well as not have display corruption, I recommend you update SPECIFICALLY to Catalyst 11.7 (which carries driver version 8.872).  Anything up to 11.12 is probably okay, but 12.1 has some very specific problems with Photoshop.  Several of us on the forum here have had particularly good, solid results from 11.7.

  • How to make CS3 the default image viewer after reloading CS

I had to reload my CS software and have not been able to use CS3 as the default vile viewer. Now CS is loaded when using the "open" and CS only appears in the "open with list". Obviously I would prefer all Photoshop programes (PS6, 7, etc) to be available, but will settle for the latest (CS3) to open my images. It would seem that because I reloaded CS the OS sees this as the default image\file viewer. Have not been able to find an answer in the forum replies or FAQ's.      Chow, Hydatus.

John, Many thanks for the promp reply. By the way, do you know why PS CS3 wants to only open files in 32 bit.  I have probably changed a setting somewhere in preparation for new PC (Vista 64 bit) which I will be networking with 2 X windows XP PC's. CS opens these 8 bit jpgs ok but CS2 and CS3 tell me the docs arent 32 bit?   Looked at PS Image mode and 8/16/32/bit all there and 16bit normally ticked.  Sorry to be a pain, but you seem to be on the "Ball" with PS.!!

  • Image disappearance upon using crop tool.

Using photoshop elements 6 , OSX 10.5, image disappears after using crop tool.
Have reinstalled software, but no affect. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Barbara... I am wondering if I can still get a bit of help in this topic. I tried that, but the files you mentioned are not in my preferences folder in my library. I am running CS4 on OS X 10.9.5 with a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card(s).in another forum it was mentioned to go to Preferences>Performance>Advanced Settings>Change the drawing mode to 'Basic', but that didn't work. Another said almost the same thing but to check off the Open GL tab... also didn't work... I am at a loss... Can you or anyone else for that matter, help?
    Thanks!

  • How can i use gradient tool in Illustrator

    Hello,
I am trying to use gradient tool in illustrator.
My image is active but how can i start using gradient tool.
I clicked the tool and tried to drag with my mouse but, i can not activate the tool itself.
Can any one help me, I am using CS4 extended with Mac.
    Thank you very much.
    Steve

First in order to use the gradient tool you must have a gradient fill applied to an object not an raster image it can be a vector illustration..
Select the object or objects or groups of objects
Now click on the gradient bar in the Gradient Panel while the object(s) are still selected that will fill the object with the default gradient.
You can also use a gradient swatch in the Swatches panel, you can make a gradient swatch as well.
Now your object(s) is filled with the default gradient fill.
Now in the tool panel select the gradient tool this will allow you to control the way the gradient is oriented and applied to the object.
Now you can change the colors and add colors to you gradient by clicking on the color markers below the gradient bar which will bring up the color or swatches panels.
Now finally and this is the most important factor to consider you have to purchase a book and or tutorials and the book that will probably do you the most good at this stage is Mordy Golding's Real World Illustrator CS 4 this you shoud do before you go any further. Honest.

  • Image viewer with a selective zoom.

Well, I've been looking for an image viewer where you can select where on the image you want to zoom into.
For example. Say you download hotchick.png and you don't like her face, but want to zoom into the rest. You could select where you want to zoom into. Think of GIMPs rectangle select tool.

I've tried every image viewer I could find and none of them have this feature, seriously? It's such a basic feature..

  • JPEG color difference between Adobe Raw and Microsoft Image Viewer

When I calibrate my monitor or use the monitors ICC file which came with the Monitor, there is a color difference between Camera Raw image and the JPEG I save from Camera Raw, displayed in Microsoft Image Viewer.
However, if I make my ICC file for the system to be SRGB Color Space Profile, and go through the same conversion, the JPEG image created and viewed in Microsoft Image viewer is identical to the one seen in Camera Raw.
It appears therefore, that the operating system only uses SRGB Color Space profile for Microsoft Imaging Viewer?
Most people I give photos to, do in fact look at them in microsoft viewer.
How can I use the ICC profile for my calibrated monitor and end up with the same results in terms of color with Camera Raw and Microsoft image and Fax Viewer.

All profiles are not created equal.  There's a basic version issue (ICC v4 vs. earlier), and profiles are complex things containing many fields.  Lots of things can go wrong in the creation of a proper color transform from the combination of the document and device profiles, and it kind of depends on what color management code the software uses whether it can be done properly.  Adobe has their own - the Adobe Color Engine - and there are others such as LittleCMS or even Microsoft's system-provided ICM that application designers may be using in their code.
It may be that the profile your calibrator/profiler has produced for your monitor (or other device) isn't compatible with every application.  It happens.
This isn't intended to provide a solution or workaround, just to help explain things a bit.

  • Can I use ACR tools in an image already opened in PS5?

If I have opened a RAW image in PS5.5 and it has several layers already modifying the file, can I convert the bottom layer to a smart object and then use ACR tools like de-fringing, etc.? I notice flaws in the image that would be corrected that way, and I don't want to start from scratch. I am able to make the layer a smart object. I don't know how to invoke the ACR tools.
This image arrived from Lightroom with "no Lightroom effects" chosen at transfer, if that makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance, folks.
    jonathan7007

If you open a RAW file through lightroom there may be a way have Photoshop open it as a smart Object I do no know I do not use Lightroom.  If you open the Raw file through the Bridge or Photoshop in ACR which is a Photoshop plug-in ACR can open it as a Smart Object layer in Photoshop where the embedded object is a copy of the RAW file and Adobe RAW conversion engine settings.   Embedded object can be reopened. If the embeded is a RAW File it will open in ACR.  If the embedded object is a Tiff or Jpeg file it can be openned in ACR or Phptoshop. If the embedded object is a raster layer or a grout pf layers that have been converted into a smart object these smart object can be opened in Photoshop.  When a Smart Obkect is reopen in ACR or Photoshop it opens as a temporay work document the when changes are made and committen by ACR or Photoshop  the original reopened smart object will be upstare with the changes made to the work document .
If you open the RAW file through Lightroom or ACR into Phoroshop as a RGB image a background layer its a raster layer converted to a smart opject it would not open in ACR. However there is a Photoshop Script you can Download from Russell Brows web site that you could  run with the Background Layer the active Photoshop target. The Script would save the Active layer as a Tiff file and then Place the tiff file into the current document as a smart object layer where the active layer is.  This Placed Smart Object layer contains a copy of a tiff file that was saved using the active layer after the place operation the Tiff file and the old active(ie background image) layer are deleted.  If your ACR preferences are set to open Tiff files doubling click on the smart object icon in that layer in the layers palette will open the Tiff in ACR.

  • How do i set up to use the spacebar to navigate within an image while using another tool

when using a tool (such as eraser, clone etc.) i used to be able to navigate within an image by using the spacebar. for some reason, this option is not working any longer and i'd like to know how to set it up again.

You don't need the background image -- you supply THAT in FCPX. Just work the text effect and publish it.

  • Using selection tool to Cut image into pieces...

    Hi all,
I was just experimenting with my Painter image editing software in my computer, and I just thought about an effect that I performed in my Painter software.
Actually, what I did is best show in images attached here. Please use them as a guide to my questions.
In Painter, I used the selection tool to seperate parts of my image as seen in my attached image. I just wonder whether one can do the same thing in after effects too.
Thanks and hope to here your responses to my question.

Ok. Thanks for your great tips as I'll see where I can go from here.

Like Steve said, you'll have to use masks. To keep it clean and predictable, draw all your masks as needed, then duplicate the layer (Ctrl+D). then delete the masks on a given layer that you don't need. What is to become the background with "holes" also will need the mask modes to be set from the default Add to Subtract. Once you have everything, you may wish to use the pan behind tool (Y) to move the layer anchor points into the centers of the masked shapes, so animation becomes a bit more predictable.

When I use a tool on an enlarged image the image freezes and I can't get it to move unless I change tools. I tried resetting tools and uninstalling and reloading CC. What should I do?  Once any tool is used I can't change its size or move the image.

    Howdy,
Sorry for the lack of info. It is Adobe Photoshop CC, I have been using
CS5 and am trying the trial version of CC to see if it worth changing
to. Any tool works once but freezes the tool sizing and image movement.
I am also using the Beta version of Mac Yosemite. But the CS5 version is
    working fine.

Usually Acrobat has linked to PhotoShop to do the photo editing. You might check the updates for Acrobat and PhotoShop.

  • Increasing saturation/color in one area

I have a photo , which is a close up, that i would like to increase the color or saturaion in just the blue of her eyes. the rest of the photo is fine the way it is. i would like her blue eyes to really pop off the page so to speak and i am not sure of how to go about doing this. any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    George

    George,
    1. Zoom way in on the eyes
    2. Use lasso tool to select one eye
    3. Hold down shift key to to select other eye. Don't stray on to the eyelids
    4. Feather selection by 1-2 pixels
    5. Bring up Hue/saturation adjustment layer
    6. Click on colorize
    7. Adjust the sliders to maximize blue effect
    8. Can change opacity of this layer and blending mode.
