Using escape key in finder to navigate backwards
wondering why this function was removed. in mountain lion i could navigate backwards in a finder window by hitting the "escape" key. each press of the button would take me backwards through my finder path the same way that i came into whatever folder i was in. like a bread trail through the woods, it was really nice.
any way to reactivate in mavericks? why would you take away something so simple and functional?
Why always the best options are removed in the latest version, It happens with Adobe always, now Apple joined it seems.
Pressing Escape let me out from selected folder in Finder window, it helps me move around top and bottom folder with help of arrow keys.
Now, it's uneasy to come out of the folder without mouse.
Whats a breakthrough here, any command which activate this function back?

Using auth key to find existing session
I wanted to know if it is possible to pass an AuthenticationKey to the AdobeHSAuthenticator and have it find the existing session that I was logged into. Currently when I do this the the connect session logs me in again so now in the roster I would see chris turner 1 and chris turner 2. I wanted to know if its possible so that chris turner 1 is the only being displayed in the roster. The use case for this would be that I have two separate flex applications that I would like to login to the same room as the same person.
Thanks.
-chrisIf you run two Flex applications (or two instances of the same application) at the same time and with the same user you will see two entries in the roster. They are for the same user (if you look at the debugging messages the user id will be the same for both of them) but we add a suffix to the name to identify the application instance.
Physically there are two network connection to the application, so you have to entries in the roster. What is the use case for wanting to see only one ?
If you really want to you can easily build your own roster (a list populated by the user manager collection of users) and filter out the "duplicates". -
Acrobat X Pro 10.1.12 Mac
Yosemite OS X 10.10.1
Acrobat now crashes when attempting to use arrow keys to navigate. This is true on both MacBook Pro 15 retina and Mac Pro.I ended up upgrading to Acrobat XI. This works, but Adobe is up to its old tricks changing the interface from what we're used to using. They now have decided to hide all the tools. You have to delve deep into the program to find the tools, then set up your own tool menus. Lord help you finding a tool that you use too occasionally to put on a custom menu.
Adobe has been doing this for years now. In Photoshop of olden days, it was simple to set up a brush, say, that you used frequently. Quite a few updates ago they made that vastly more difficult. And they've replaced words with happy little icons, that are not at all intuitive to use. I challenge you, too, to look at the icon for the airbrush and tell me whether it is on or off. (Sorry, this is mainly about Photoshop, but what they've done to the latest Acrobat is just as bad.)
Of course, their ultimate cuteness in making things difficult for the user is their essential abandonment of a Help system. You can't do a simple look-up of a function -- you have to go to an internet site and sort through a bunch of forums and user comments to get any information.

Using the Escape key in simulations and assessments
I have recently recorded a simulation/assessment that needs to use the Escape key to close a pop-up window and returns to the main application window. The recording has not been an issue; however, using Escape with failure messages is proving to be tricky. Here's what I have discovered while resording my sim/assess, along with my questions:
When I press Escape, Captivate captures this keystroke as a shortcut attached to a Click Box. This works on the assessment side, but fails to produce a failure message on the assessment side when the user does not press the Escape key.
I need to produce a failure message when the user does not press Escape.
Can I storethe unicode value of Escape in a TEB variable and then use an if . . . else statement to either advance to the next slide (success action) or produce a caption that mimics a failure caption? If so, how would I write this item?
Could I use a Loss of focus trigger instead?
Does Captivate have a variable that records a unicode value (Something like CPKeyPressedValue"?
Are there any other alternatives?In the case of buttons and clickbox objects, where clicking is allowed, the failure is normally registered when the user CLICKS OUTSIDE the button or click box. The evaluation of Success/Fail happens on the click.
In the case of a Text Entry Box, the interactivity is all about what the user enters into the text field and whether or not it is correct/incorrect when compared to approved answer text. The main purpose of the TEB object is not centered on the clicking of the button that accompanies the text field. The button just provides a way to trigger the Success/Failure evaluation of the user interaction with the text field.
Since you have deselected Allow Mouse Click for your click box, you've effectively made it mandatory to use keystrokes to trigger the Success/Failure evaluation of the object. So clicking outside the box is no longer going to do anything because Allow Mouse Click is off. You'll get a failure message on this click box now for many (but not all) keystrokes that are not the one assigned.
By the way, using the Escape key as a keystroke if you Preview the project in Captivate just shuts down the preview (as you've probably already found out). -
Using Escape as a hot key?
Hi Guys,
I am working on an application where we are running into some inconsistencies in the use of our hotkeys that makes it confusing for the end user (some pages alt-c triggers "continue", and sub pages that do not contain the continue button it means triggers "cancel"). What we would like to do is use the escape key as the hotkey for cancel, anybody have some insight on how to accomplish this?
Thanks,
ChrisThanks for the answer, and I can do this with the windows format, or is there an Apple utility?
Anyways, thanks very much for the answer.

Using multiple key values to find data
Hello, It's me again.
I had a question about bring data out from Database and show on an ADF page on Jdev 11.1.1.3.
And Mr. Daniel Atwood answered my question with this follow blog he wrote.
http://www.avioconsulting.com/blog/datwood/2012/06/19/using-bpm-process-variable-adf-form-retrieve-database-information-0.
But I have another question on the top of that.
The example Mr.Atwood provided is when you using "one" key value, what if I have two key values, how to set this up?
Here are some details:
I have a table like this
ID Type_code Name
0001 05 a-blabla
0002 25 b-blabla
0002 26 b-blabla
0003 08 c-blabla
0003 25 c-blabla
0003 79 c-blabla
What I want to do is after input the ID(0003) and type_code (25), it will show me the result on three input text components in ADF page with value 0003, 25 and c-blabla.
Currently, I can use only ID to query the data, but I would like to use two key values to find the specific data.
Thank you very much for taking time to think about this,
Sincerely,
ViolaDear Daniel, may I ask one more question please?
what if I have 4 tables?
table1
ID * ID_Type_code * Name
0001 * 11 * abc
0002 * 12 * abcd
0003 * 13 * abcde
table2
ID * OID_type_code * Name
0001 * 22 * abc
0002 * 23 * abcd
0002 * 25 * abcd
0003 * 23 * abcde
0003 * 22 * abcde
0003 * 28 * abcde
table3
ID * OID_type_code * OGAD_line_id * address
0001 * 22 * 1 * a street
0001 * 22 * 2 * b street
0002 * 23 * 1 * c street
0002 * 25 * 1 * d street
0003 * 28 * 1 * e street
0003 * 28 * 2 * f street
0003 * 28 * 3 * g street
table 4
ID OID_type_codeOGAD_line_id*COP_line_id*phone number
0001*22*1*1*2222222222
0001*22*1*2*3333333333
0002*23*1*1*4444444444
0003*28*2*1*5555555555
0003*28*2*2*6666666666
Primary key for each table
table1, primary key is ID
table2, primary key is ID , OID_type_code
table3, primary key is ID , OID_type_code, OGAD_line_id
table4, primary key is ID , OID_type_code, OGAD_line_id , COP_line_id
I would like to show each value in each table in the separate input text fields.
Therefore, this is an advanced question based on the previous one, not only get values from one table but also from several tables based on input for example 0003 and 28 as the ID and OID_type_code?.
Let me know if you need more details,
Thank you so much,
Viola -
Exiting programs using the escape key
My team and I are design games for autistic children. One of the problems we are having is that we do not know how to quit the application using the escape key. Our team would really appreciate it if you could tell us how this is done.
Quick example:
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class ExitOnEscape extends JFrame
public ExitOnEscape()
setSize(300, 300);
addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter()
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e)
int key = e.getKeyCode();
if(key == KeyEvent.VK_ESCAPE)
System.exit(0);
setVisible(true);
public static void main(String[] args)
new ExitOnEscape();

How can I get the escape key to work again?
I've used "esc" to get out of VI's insert mode for 40 years. I am not going to relearn that keystroke as "ctl-esc", period. Even if I were to do that, then I'd be typing ctl-esc on other platforms where it would not work because I have to type "esc" alone. If there is a way to fix in in System Preferences->keyboard, I cannot find it. If there is not, then it is completely 100% brain-dead wrong. I hope that's not the case. So there is definitely a bug:
The key-up event on the escape key does not cause the escape key code to be delivered to the active window when no other key is pressed, or
The UI is sufficiently obtuse that the cause of the suppression cannot readily be found.
I do hope it is merely the latter because I am compelled to use Outlook and Outlook does not work properly under OS/X 10.6. (Our Exchange Server is rigged to only allow Outlook clients to send email outside of the company.)
Thank you.The answer is: The bug is in the UI. Speech recognition was enabled, by default it uses the bare escape key as a "mic on" indicator, and it does not leave any trace in the keybord configuration. So that is the bug. It needs to leave a trace there, a la: "X Listen-for-voice-command ^" under Mission Control.

Using alt key in console vim.
Hi folks,
Does anyone out there have a working method for using alt-<key> mappings in vim on the console? I've read a fair amount and the consensus seems to be "tweak all these different things to find what works on your system". So, what works on Arch (on a standard PC)?
First off, I read this:
http://vimdoc.sourceforge.net/htmldoc/m … p-alt-keys
I am currently trying some vim maps like
nmap <a-s> <C-w>s
And I'm using urxvt, so have tried the following in my .Xdefaults:
URxvt*meta8:true
This stops urxvt from converting alt key presses into esc-<key> patterns, but it's not activating the vim map. (It works in gvim BTW).
Has anyone got this to work? Or is the consensus that esc-<key> patterns are the way to go, with a .vimrc adapted to accept them, e.g. as in this:
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Fix_meta-keys … nsert_mode
A working config would be much appreciated!

Ah ha - okay. So you're using escapes too, rather than meta8 (this is the default, so makes sense). Yeah, I got it working doing that, but had to adapt my .vimrc to get it to acknowledge the ^[ as "alt". Didn't you, or did a simple map of e.g. <A-a> suffice?
Are you running it in screen/tmux btw? and what is your TERM set to?
Yeah, I thought that too and though I do run it in tmux usually, I've been testing it both with and without (TERM is set to screen-256color BTW) and it made no difference. Still, unless I specifically map the ^[ to alt in vim, it doesn't work. With meta8 it works so long as the locale is not UTF-8.
Guess I've got a workaround for now, but it would be nice if meta8 and utf-8 worked nicely together.
Thanks.
Could you please show how your vimrc looks like? I have the same problem and I'm interested in your workaround. -
Richt Click Mouse with user32.dll and String Constant for Escape Key
Hi, could some one provide the input parameters to use with Mouse_Event function in user32.dll to Right Click the Mouse? Also, what is the string constant to send if one want to type the Escape Key (Esc)?
I have searched this forrum but only find the parameters for Left Mouse Click. Thanks for any help.Hi,
The mouse_event function has been superseded by the sendinput command. To learn more about the function calls with user32.dll, have a look at the msdn.com website. The user32.dll website is shown here. The syntax for the mouse_event function is shown below:
Syntax
VOID mouse_event(
DWORD dwFlags,
DWORD dx,
DWORD dy,
DWORD dwData,
ULONG_PTR dwExtraInfo
);I hope this helps,

Re: Using Alt-Key combinations
Unfortunately this happens not only with Alt-Key combinations. It also
happens with the ordinary F10 key: Windows activates the menu and then
Forte gets the FKey event. The problem is that now the user has to press
ESC to deactivate the menu and continue normal processing. There is no
known cure yet...

We are attempting to use Alt-Key combinations for a shortcut key combination
for push buttons using the SetAsFunctionKey method and FunctionKeyPress
event. When we press the Alt-Key combination, it appears that Windows is
trying to find a menu item with that shortcut combination or a button with
that combination. Since Windows can not find the proper element with that
combination, it beeps at us. At that point, Forte picks up the key
combination and will post the FunctionKeyPress event.
The application will work fine, but the beep is not only annoying, but also
is misleading for those individuals using accessibility tools like screen
readers who rely upon audible queues for detecting errors in keyboarding.
Has anyone found any viable solutions to this problem?--

AppleScript to press Escape key (3x) for Excel
Hi all,
I'm trying to automatically convert Excel files to PDFs using Automator. Although, every time the Excel file is opened, I get a message about links to other workbooks. I really don't care about these links and just want to convert the file to a PDF. I just can't get Automator to press the "Ignore links" button on the Excel message.
Now I've found out that pressing the escape key on my keyboard activates the following buttons on the Excel message about the links:
- "Update links" (then there's a Finder window popping up)
- "Cancel" (the search for other workbooks) (another Finder window pops up)
- "Cancel" again
Then Excel opens up the file I need to convert, so I can actually convert it using Automator and do whatever I want with it.
I have absolutely no experience using AppleScript.Is there a way to make a AppleScript that presses the escape key three times, so that Excel just opens my file?
Thanks in advancePressing the Escape key is trivial:
tell application "System Events"
repeat three times
key code 53
end repeat
end tell
Invoking this script at the right time is what's harder (plus, you might need a small delay between each keystroke to allow for the OS to handle the keystroke and display the next dialog, otherwise the second and third keystrokes might get lost. -
Escape Key ruins my application
Escape Key messed up big time with my app. To name the
problems, there were three major bugs possible to occur when I
repeatedly hit the ESCAPE key when my app is running (of course on
Projector) :
1. Some animations (sprite) drew back to frame 1.
2. Sometimes in some part of my app, it failed my projector
to call certain Custom Functions. And in some other cases, it
somehow disabled (or maybe removed) certain Sprite Behaviors. Thus,
making that game not playable when it happened.
3. It also made some error such as :
Handler not found in Object. #play
I knew it's gotta be something to do with my Flash Sprite,
but to surprise me, I found out that no keydown script should be
running when that error occured.
In my conclusion, these things related to my pressing ESCAPE
key repeatedly when playing the app.
Is there anyone else who has experienced the same problem
with me? Is there a solution this? Maybe I can lock the Escape key.
But, hey, I need the Escape key to let user Skip certain parts of
my game.quote:

No, wherold. It was not exitLock. I already set it to False.
Now I know that the sprite that drew back to frame 1 was my
fault. But, how the Escape key messing up with Custom Functions
still amaze me. I managed to find a solution: using baDisableKeys
at certain events in the game. -_-
