Using Ethereal with EFAH05W workgroup hub

Using Ethereal to sniff network data.  Trying to capture all traffic on the subnet, but only captures TCP traffic going to the machine running Ethereal.  Read that some hubs are actually 'switched' hubs, therefore will only capture data going to that machine.  Is the EFAH05W a 'switched' hub?  If yes, are there any recommended 'non-switched' hubs that will perform this task?

I've been trying to do the exact same thing with my EFAH05W hub.  I've found that if I use a seperate PC to run the packet analyzer SW and monitor the network traffic, I won't be able to reliably see all the traffic (none of the traffic most of the time).  I loaded my packet analyzer SW on one of the notebooks on the network and was able to see all the traffic.  I suspect that the EFAH05W hub does not share all traffic on all ports.  I've been reading some of the info on the Wireshark.org website and learned that the Linksys RVS4000 might be a good choice for sniffing network traffic.  Apparently the RVS4000 has a feature that allows traffic on other ports to be mirrored on one port.  When I read the User Guide for the RVS4000 this wasn't very obvious to me.  I'm still digging on this topic.

  • Using with a USB Hub

    Hi. Right now I have an old iMac, and I use a USB hub (I have way too many USB devices that I like to have connected at once). If I were to switch to a Macbook along with one of the new 24" LED displays, would I still be able to connect the USB hub to the back of the display, or should I not do this since the display technically functions as a USB hub itself?

    USB hubs can be used with other USB hubs as long as the hub they plug into has power, such as the display hubs.

  • Problem using static IPs on PCs with BT Home Hub 2

    Hi
    Have today just been upgraded to BT Infinity using the new VDSL modem and BT Home Hub.
    I have a server running Ubuntu and several PCs and laptops, mostly connected via ethernet.
    Prior to the upgrade I was using the 10.x.x.x range for the network with most of the devices using static IPs.  However, it seems that the 10.* range is not acceptable when configuring the IP address and Subnet mask on the Home Hub.  Great! .... Not.
    Anyway, so decided to switch to using the 192.168.x.x range (subnet 255.255.0.0).  Have configured the router as .1.1 and my server as .3.1.  However, the server is unable to ping virtually all sites on the Internet (I say all as some times www.google.com works ok.)
    Also all PCs will not work with static IP configurations (using IPs like .4.1, .5.1, etc.).  The only way I can get the PCs and laptops to work is to use the DHCP setting (Obtain IP from server).  This is configured on the home hub as .100.1 - .100.254
    I really need the PCs and laptops to work with static IPs.
    Am I missing something or is this a known problem with the Home Hub?  It seems that the Home Hub will only connect to the Internet if it is configured to grab an IP from DHCP on the Home Hub.
    Thanks for any help in advance.
    Sarah

    Ok.  I think I have found a work-around for this, which shows that the problem is the BT home hub.
    Delete all the devices showing on the hub (in the Advnaced Settings).
    Configure each PC with a static IP address with the required IP. Reboot the PC.  After logging in, go to the router and enter the device showing in the home hub and set the device so that it always uses the IP address (as it will have registered the IP - even though it is outside the DHCP range).  Save this.  Go back to the PC and reconfigure the network settings to use DHCP and reboot the PC.  The PC will then continue to re-use the original IP address, which allows this to be used as a static IP address, thus allowing it to be used for apps that need to have a fixed IP.
    Repeat for each PC.
    Although this works I have a feeling that the IPs used may only be retained as long as the home hub is not rebooted.
    It shows that it is possible to use "static" IPs outside the 192.168.1.* range and outside the DHCP range (I was using 192.168.100.* and it worked ok).  Therefore there is no reason why this should not work as static IPs, other than that the firmware on the home hub does not allow it.  What rubbish.
    I cannot wait until some of the other manufacturers (like Linksys, Netgear, Belkin) jump on the VDSL bandwagon and produce compatiable routers.
    Regards
    Sarah

  • Can I use preset with Lightroom mobile

    I Would like to buy a set of Lightroom presets and a wondering if I will be able to use them with the mobile app and if so how?

    Yes, no problem at all doing that.
    I would make sure that it all works before you start travelling, as its easier to sort out from home. Make sure you are opted it, and try it from your own BT Home hub BT Wifi signal first.

  • Issue with configuring Hyperion HUB 7.1.2 with SQLSERVER 2005

    Hello Experts,
    One of my customer has an issue with configuring Hyperion HUB 7.1.2 with SQLSERVER 2005.
    "We are trying to configure the SQL server 2005 database with Hyperion hub and we are unable to get the cofiguration completed. We suspect the driver class (hyperion.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver) used in the domain.xml (path \Hyperion\HyperionHub\7.2.1\deployments\Tomcat\4.1.30\) is not helping to connect with sql server 2005. We would appreciate if you can provide new driver class which we can included while deploying the app under the web server."
    Please suggest. Thanks in advance

    Hi
    Please redeploy only the Web Server under shared service. It has to be redeployed once EPMA and others are configured.

  • Problem with a Open Hub Extraction

    Hi Experts,
    I have a huge problem here.
    I´m trying  to extract some data with an Open Hub application, but i´m having trouble with the application server.
    See, I have to extract the information from a DSO to a file in a application server, but the company has one application server for each environment (BD1, BQ1, etc) and the conversion it´s not working and the transportation of the request always fails.
    Anyone knows how to fix this??
    Thanks.
    Regards.
    Eduardo C. M. Gonçalves

    Hi,
    While creating the open hub, you need to maintain the file name details under T-CODE - FILE.
    I hope you have maintained that.
    There also you wil have to use the variable to change the file path which will change the file path in each system..
    There you will have to define
    Logical File Path Definition
    Assignment of Physical Paths to Logical Path
    Logical File Name Definition, Cross-Client
    Once you have define this and transport , then your Open Hub will go smooth.
    Thanks

  • Apple TV 2 Airplay/Mirroring with BT Home Hub 5

    Hello,
    I've just had BT infinity 2 installed along with a Home Hub 5. Internet is working fine and I have numerous iPads, iPhones, Android phones and computers connected and working fine.
    I have an Apple TV 2 which will stream from Netflix and Apples own movie repositry fine however if I try and use Airplay or Mirroring after around 5 seconds my Apple TV gets booted form the wireless network and I have to reconnect.
    I've recently moved from Virgin Media where I used a modem and a DLink Dir-655 which worked flawlessly so I'm sure its the HomeHub 5 which is the problem.
    Has anyone got Airplay and/or Mirroring working with their HomeHub 5? I am wondering if its anything to do with the 5ghz band as I notice the Apple TV connects on 5hz where as my old router was only 2.4ghz compatible.
    Any help apreciated.

    Have you tried disabling the 5GHz frequency on the home hub?
    I believe that there are things you need to do, to synchronise the two SSIDs, but as I only have a HH1, I am sure someone will be able to help.

  • Lightroom with a Workgroup

    Is it possible (and advisable) to use Lightroom among a workgroup? Here is our situation:
    Over 20,000 images currently stored on a shared server accessed by both Macs and PCs
    About 6 people need to be able to see the same keywords, catalogs, and collections to find images quickly for print and web publications.
    Currently only I have Lightroom 1.0 but we would buy additional licenses if this would work.
    Currently the workgroup is using no database program, just keeping images in directories. Very cumbersome. We also have Cumulus which nobody is using yet. Lightroom looks much easier to use so I would like to know if this is possible.
    Thank you, I was not able to find this topic in the product documentation.

    No this won't work. Lightroom is not suited for multiple user use. You need a real DAM app such as indeed cumulus. This is unfortunately a rather difficult problem to solve as soon as you have more than one or two people access and you are not going to get there with a relatively simple program such as Lightroom.

    after itunes finishes restoring my ipod touch 8gb, itunes still says itunes has detected an ipod touch recovery mode. You must restore it before using it with itunes. and i dont know what to do

    Are you sure it is 1043? I've never seen that error before. But you can try disabling your security software, connecting the phone to a USB port directly on the computer (not a hub), and trying to restore again.

  • Send both Toast and Tile Notification simultaneously using Template feature of Notification Hub

    Hi, I am using WNS(Windows Notification Service) With Notification Hub to send Push Notifications to my WP 8.1 Application. I am basically sending localized notification using Template feature of Notification Hub. I have used Localized
    News example  reference for sending localized used.
    Here are my templates and how I am registering them, also How my Dictionary payloads look like :-
    Toast Template Method :-
    public static string GetToastText01Template(string param,string line1)
    return string.Format(@"<toast launch=""$({0})"">
    <visual>
    <binding template=""ToastText01"">
    <text id=""1"">$({1})</text>
    </binding>
    </visual>
    </toast>", param, line1);
    Tile Template Method :-
    public static string CreateSquare150_150BackgroundTextTemplateWns(string backText)
    return string.Format(@"<tile>
    <visual >
    <binding template=""TileSquarePeekImageAndText01"">
    <image id=""1"" src=""ms-appx:///ApplicationIcon_173_173.png"" alt=""alt text"" />
    <text id=""1"">$({0})</text>
    </binding>
    </visual>
    </tile>", backText);
    Registration With Notificaiton Hub (Part of Register Method basically) :-
    var toasttemplate = GetToastText01Template("NavigateToPageUri" ,GetToastCultureKey(culture));
    await _hubClient.CreateWindowsTemplateRegistrationAsync(ChannelUri, toasttemplate, tags);
    var tileTemplate = ToastFactory.CreateSquare150_150BackgroundTextTemplateWns(GetTileBackTextCultureKey(culture));
    await _hubClient.CreateWindowsTemplateRegistrationAsync(ChannelUri, tileTemplate, tags)
    Toast payload In terms of Dictionary :-
    Tile Payload Dictionary :-
    Note :- I have ensured that Keys for both the templates must be different during registering the templates so that both templates doesn't mix with each other.
    Problem :- When I am registering only one Template, doesn't matter Whether it is Toast or Tile, I am able to get the notification on my app successfully(Both of Toast and Tile ,individually, working fine). But When I register both of the
    Templates simultaneously or Individually, then none on them is working.
    Questions :-
    1) Can you let me know how basically Notification Hub select the Template from Payload Dictionary ? Like in case of two different registered templates.
    2) How can we send Two localized Notifications simultaneously using Template feature of Notification Hub?

    Hi Tanuj,
    Selection of template/registration always based on tags not based on payload keys.
    Just to explain, you have following two devices.
    device A - toast template,  tags: {"en-us", "toast"}
    device A - tile template , tags : {"en-us", "tile"}
    device B - toast template,  tags: {"en-fr", "toast"}
    device B - tile template , tags : {"en-fr", "tile"}
    If you call a method  SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us”)) like this,  That will target the toast and tile both notifications to the device A.
    But if you just want to send the toast notification to device A, you have to call something like this,
    SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us && toast”)). FYI Second parameter is a tag expression: Please refer following link to know more about tag expressions:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn530749.aspx
    To answer your second question, register template with language tag along with other tags (just like above example). Then when you are sending notification, include that tag in your tag expression.
    Example: SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us && toast”)), this one send toast notifications to all “en-us” local devices.
    Thanks,
    Sateesh

  • Airport extreme with BT Home HUB 5

    I had airport extreme Time machine + two airport express.
    Since I connected with BT Home hub 5 very unstable and range very limited.. time out all the time . and even close to the AE time machine very slow connection.
    ?? what should I do?
    I wna t to keep my Apple Wifi and my network name?

    What model is the TC and running which firmware??
    How well does the wireless on the HH5 work with the wireless off on the TC? That will give me some idea of the level of signal you are getting.
    You always need to take this one step at a time.
    Wireless is a technology more akin to voodoo.. add a healthy dose of black arts, some gremlins and stardust.. and there you have it.. chaos in a box.
    Apple has a wireless diagnostic software onboard. Since Mountain Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5606
    The utility section is a big help at figuring out problems.
    Load it onto a laptop and do a wireless survey around your house.. it can also show if the neighbour is fighting you will new equipment.
    Survey both 2.4ghz and..
    5ghz
    Do it from HH5 only.. TC only and both together..
    Check channels and check interference levels.. take notes so trying to overcome the voodoo with some science.
    Take screenshot in different parts of the house and store them in a document so you can compare different charts..
    Watch particularly for link speeds. and as you move away from the same room how quickly the signal drops.
    If you post some of the screenshots as above we might be able to say more.
    But a general observation.. try to put the TC near where you need it.. if that means several rooms away run ethernet to that location.. and run the TC there with ethernet if possible to desktop computers. Only use wireless to clients that need it. EOP adapters can replace ethernet if wiring is not possible although it is less than reliable it is still better than wireless.. they pack them with lower gremlin counts.

  • Time Capsule compatibility with Wireless USB Hub

    Is it possible to use a wireless USB hub with the Time Capsule? I am thinking of using a Belkin wireless USB hub, which would have the USB receiver/antenna for the hub connected to the TC, and my printer connected to the hub.
    Below is the link for the Belkin Wireless USB hub that I wanted to use:
    http://shop3.frys.com/product/5845573#detailed
    My reason for doing this is because I want to keep my wireless printing capabilities, but I want to move the TC downstairs and "bridge" it with my AT&T U-Verse wireless router/modem. At the moment I am not able to have my TC and router/modem in the same room.
    My thinking is that this will not work because the TC will not recognize that type of USB device (i.e. the USB receiver/antenna for the hub). But if this works this would solve a great deal of logistic problems.

    I still have questions about how to connect the Brother printer through ethernet. When connected does the airport utility have some area where you can identify the printer as a network printer as opposed to USB?
    The AirPort Utility would only come into play if the printer was attached to the TC's USB port. Printers, attached by Ethernet, would have to "network-ready." Controlling these types of printers would be through the printer driver that you would access through the operating system interface.
    In my HP example, the HP printer driver does provide access to a number of features particular to this printer model. Most manufacturers include an installation CD that provide useful utilities ... albeit most are written for Windows. I would suggest checking out the Brother support site to see if they have Mac-specific drivers or utilities.
