Using existing .me account on iCloud Mail

Hello,
I have few questions with regards to the above. First here's the facts:
I have existing .mac account, but never use it for Mail. Only for iTunes & everything else related to my Mac including this community
I've tried using MobileMe for a trial period and never subscribed to it after it was over. Therefore I also have a .me account under my (chosen) username
I am currently using MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3
I do sync my Mac with iPhone (or vice versa) via iCloud for many apps except Mail
Now, I'm trying to enable Mail & Notes from my iCloud setting on my Mac. But it's asking me to create an email address ([email protected]). I tried keying in my existing .me account but obviously that won't work. How do I do this using my existing .me account or better if I can use my .mac account. Personally I prefer my .mac account of course
Appreciate if some experts can shed me some lights here
Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you only had a trial MobileMe account and you allowed that to expire - if you had an @mac.com address this must have in fact been a DotMac account before the change to MobileMe, since only @me.com addresses were available on MobileMe.
You can use the @mac.com address as an Apple ID because that needs only to be a text string in the form of an email address: it doesn't have to be a functioning address as long as you have another address associated with it.
If you are running Lion 10.7.2 or above you can sign in with your @me.com address in System Preferences>iCloud (you will need the original password). By doing this and activating Mail in the checklist you can use your @me.com address. You cannot activate an @mac.com address if you did not have a MobileMe account with it running on 6 June 2011. You can use this account in addition to your current iCloud account by signing in with it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars - I'm not sure whether this will activate it or whether you will have to sign in temporarily in System Preferences>iCloud.
If you are, as your signature indicates, in fact using 10.6.2 you cannot do any of this.

  • How do I use my iTunes account w/ iCloud and leave my MobileMe subscription intact?

I use several Mac applications that integrate with MobileMe, so I'd like to keep my MobileMe account intact (NOT move to iCloud) so I can continue to use this functionality until those apps are updated to support iCloud.
I am hoping there's a way I can use my iTunes account for iCloud (I already set up iCloud backups on my iPhone and iPad with this account) while leaving my MobileMe account as a MobileMe account.
Here's the rub: when I go to System Preferences > iCloud, all I see is a message telling me to "first move your MobileMe account", which I don't want to do.

Nothing to do with iCloud, sign in to your iTunes account on your Mac, in iTunes.

I use a gmail account for my mail.  When I send an email I sometimes get multiple duplicates (up to 10-12) of the same sent message saved in my sent file.  help

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

Tell him to contact the Apple account security team for his country and ask for assistance changing the password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.  If his country isn't listed, he can try contacting iTunes store support by filling out this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • How do I add a second email account in ICloud mail

How do I add a second email account to my iCloud mail, like a POP account?

I talked with Apple and they have taken away the ability to check other email addresses on iCloud like you could in MobileMe via POP or whatever.
Not sure why I would use iCloud if I can't check all of my email there, and I'm certainly not going to configure four POP accounts on my phone, my laptop, ipad, and work computer...
    Bummer...I'm going back to Gmail.

  • Using a hotmail account as Mac Mail?

A friend has an Apple which a few years ago downloaded a plugin to allow all emails from hotmail come to her Macmail application on her Macbook. She can also send mails from here as normal and they are sent as if in her hotmail account.
However, she cannot remember how this is done. I'm looking to do the same, use my hotmail account email without having to sign into the hotmail browser, and use my macmail application. Does anyone have the details/plugin details to do this please? (I only have 10.3.9 by the way)
    Many thanks,

    I have found this -
    http://www.automagic-software.com/products.php
check your mail->preferences->accounts, and click on your hotmail account.
in the 'account information' tab, i have the following--without the brackets:
description: [what shows up in the account pane to the left]
    email address: [your hotmail address]
    full name: [um...yer name]
    incoming mail server: [hotmail.com]
user name: [your email address before the @]
    password: [your hotmail password]
    outgoing mail server:[services.msn.com:myusername]
if i click the 'server settings' button below that pulldown, i can type in 'services.msn.com' easily enough. but, in order to get my username to show, i change the authentication pulldown to 'password' and enter my username and password.
ok...that last bit is where it gets a little hinky. mine works just fine with authentication turned off. but, in the main view my outgoing server still shows my username after the colon.
also, make sure you configure the other tabs....especially the 'advanced' tab where you have to enable the account.
and, that the httpmail url is set to:
    http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
If this works, could someone please confirm?
    Thanks,

  • HT4759 Is it true that when setting up devices with the find my phone app you must use the same account for ICloud ? If so how do I delete a current account to make it read as the other ICloud accounts?

I'm setting up my devices with the find my phone app. I have accomplished setting up 2 devices. The third I can't setup because I can't change the iCloud account.
My understanding from reading that the iCloud accounts must use the same name on all devices. How do I change that account in my phone settings?

You don't have to use the same iCloud account in order to track all your devices.  You just have to sign into the iCloud account being used on the device you are trying to track in order to track it.  When you sign in on icloud.com and open Find My iPhone, you will see all the devices with Find My iPhone enabled that are using the account you signed in with.  To track a device using a different account, simply sign out, then sign back in using the ID the new device is using.
The Find My iPhone app works the same way.  It will display devices based on the iCloud account you sign in with on the app.  To track a device using a different account, sign out, then sign back in with the iCloud ID that the new device is using.

  • HT204053 cannot sync calendar on my new ipad mini. my mac and macbook use a .me account for iCloud. How can I change this?

I cannot sync calendar on new ipad mini. My mac desktop and mac book have an old .me icloud account name. Cannot change that so how do I sync?

If you had a passcode set on your iPad your data should be safe.  The thief would have to force it into recovery mode and restore it in order to use it, which would completely erase it.
This shouldn't keep your daughter's device from accessing the iCloud account however.  If you can no longer sign into the account on iCloud.com from your computer, contact Apple support for assistance.

  • Changing existing user account to forward mail: how to send stored messages

    Hi there,
I have changed one of my user accounts to forward mail to another mail-adres. There is quite some mail in his mailbox, that still needs to be downloaded. I want these stored messages to be sent to his new address, but I can't find a way to do this.
    Do you have an advice?
    thanks in advance

Is the new username an established email account with an email provider? If not, that is your problem. You cannot just make up a username and expect to receive email with it.
I would not suggest changing usernames due to a new email account. I would set up a new account in Thunderbird for the new email account.

  • Why can't i add multiple email accounts to icloud mail, just like i can on my devices?

I am wondering, iCloud now has the iOS7 update and all the apps sync exactly the same way they do with my devices, even the app icons are identical.  Then there is the Mail app, which doesnt allow me to "Add Accounts" from a third party like i can on my devices; making it useless for people like me with private domains.  Even the Mail app icon is the same indicating that its the same as on devices, except it only allows you to use your @me and @icloud adress.  Whats the deal?

I'd just add that iCloud has nothing at all to do with iOS 7.  iOS 7 is an operating system for Apple's mobile devices.  iCloud is a distributed computing email and storage service running on Apple's server farms scattered around the globe.  iCloud does not "run on iOS" and in fact has nothing at all to do with iOS or OS X.
Apple makes clients and applications to access iCloud services from iOS, OS X and windows, but iCloud itself has nothing to do with any of these.

  • How can I have a different default reply account for iCloud mail?

When I reply to emails on my iPad that came from the iCloud server the replies are from my iCloud account unless I manually select the @gmail.com account in the dropdown list. I want all replies to automatically default to the gmail account. Is this possible? I have set the default account as the gmail account but it is not working the way I want. On my Macbook it does work!

    Hi maus100,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
iOS: Configuring additional outgoing mail servers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4519
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Setting called Default account. change what you want to send from.
    Best of luck,

  • Mail using weird default account for new mail

I recently upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion, and am having some trouble with Mail.
I have five email accounts: Comcast, two Gmail-based and two on an independent company's servers (Pair Networks).
When I'm in one of my inboxes and send a new email, the sending account is set correctly to that of the selected account. Likewise, if I respond to an email the sending account is set correctly.
BUT - if I am anywhere else and send a new email - unified inbox, local folder of filed mail, etc. - the sending account appears as a sixth option that doesn't exist in my settings anywhere. The dropdown to select a sender account now shows six options instead of the usual five, and this is the last one, and is selected.
The email address for that account happens to be the same as one of my accounts, but the name shown is strange.
    The original account reads like:
    Firstname Lastname <[email protected]>
This weird sixth account reads like:
    "Firstname Lastname (s)" <[email protected]>
    - adding quotes around the name and a parentheses s at the end of the name.
The original account is not the first in the list, nor the last. It is second. The first is a Gmail account - not sure if that is relevant.
iCloud is not enabled for Mail - all my devices do their own connecting to mail.
Soooo.....hmmm. What do folks think? Is there somewhere I should be able to set an overall default account, when a sending account can't be determined based on the selected folder?

    "Account of selected mailbox"
The bogus account doesn't appear in the list. The original (Firstname Lastname <[email protected]>) does appear, as the second option in the dropdown list.

  • Cannot set Use only this server for iCloud mail

Each new versions of OS X add more bells and whistles and brings us closer to the fun that made me move away from Windows, 9 years ago!
So this update appears to have problems saving my setting and mail is really having problems.
I have 7 accounts and each has thier own SMTP out going mail server which I set in the Edit SMTP Server List.
For some reason my iCloud account has lost this setting and now when I try to set it Mail tells me it cannot save the setting while the Incomming mail server is empty.
But iCloud sets it's own incomming server! I cannot change the setting!
I'm very disapointed with the way the quality of OS X has dropped with each new release. I'll soon be back sitting up all night trying to keep the Mac working just like I did in the bad old days with Windows, only with less money in my pocket!

    Hi there
If you have more than one Mail account on more then one server, you can select the server from which you want to sent the mail. If you select "Use only this server" you can't select the smtp server on sending. thats all
    regards

  • IPhone 4s & iPhone4 using one iTune account via iCloud??

Hi, I have an iPhone4s and my wife has an iPhone4. I've just brought iMatch to convert my music to iCloud. Can both me and my wife use iCloud for the one iTunes account? My wifes phone seems to have the iCloud symbol next to each album but I don't on my phone. Any help would be great.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes providing that both phones are logged into the same iTunes account, then they can both use iTunes match.
Check on your phone under settings> music, that iTunes match is turned on.
