Using express to stream stereo problem

Hi,
I have a P.C with a DLINK wireless router. Using the discussion forums ive managed to get the express set up as a client and can finally stream music.
However, everytime I turn the computer off and come back next time I have to go into the Admin Utility and update the express in order for itunes to see it again. After 30min or so of listening to music, the express will often drop out as well. Any ideas? Is it something to do with the wireless network? I have seen with the MACs the solution is to move the preference of the connection up, but I cant seem to be able to do that here with the PC... Any ideas? Thanks

If the PC doesn't have wireless capability, then it is streaming iTunes via it's Ethernet connection to your wireless router. In turn, the router is streaming iTunes wirelessly to the AX.
If you are using wireless encryption (WEP or WPA), try turning it off to see if this helps.
Also, let's double-check your AX setup...
To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
- Wireless Network: <select the existing wireless network>
Music tab
- Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
- Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
- iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
- iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
In iTunes:
iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
- Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Airport Express/Extreme w/Stereo problems

I missed tech support by 3 minutes tonight and am hoping someone "out there" can help me. I'm having a party tomorrow night and would really love my iTunes to be playing on my speakers by then!
I can't seem to get my Airport Express to show up on my computer(s).
Here's what I've got, then I'll ask questions:
iMac hooked up to Airport Extreme Base Station for printer and cable modem internet, as well as for wireless networking with my iBook. The iBook obviously has an Airport Card, but the iMac doesn't, because it is directly hooked up to the base station. I thought that the iMac and the Express weren't seeing each other, perhaps, because there is no Airport Card in the iMac. But, when I tried the same on my Airport Card equipped iBook, I still get no recognition, even after running Airport Utility again on both computers.
    Questions:
    1) Any obvious answers?
    2) Even though my iMac is hooked up to the wireless network via wires, does it need an Airport Card?
    3) What port should the monster cable go into on my receiver? It is an old one (1993) and has no auxilary input ports, so I tried to use Phono (is that a dumb move?)
I know it is a lot of questions, but I am desperate and you all seem to know what you're doing all the time!
    Thank you!

You have no available ethernet ports for the Express to be plugged into so it must get connected to your network wirelessly. This is possible but to configure it you'll want to temporarily connect to it with ethernet. Then use Airport Admin Utility (not Airport Setup Assistant) to connect to the Express and make it "Join an existing wireless network (Wireless Client)" with your wireless network's name and security requirements.
    2) Even though my iMac is hooked up to the wireless
network via wires, does it need an Airport Card?
    No.

Phono is a bad choice since it gets extra amplification. If you have an available tape recorder input use that. If one isn't available unplug your tape recorder for the New Year's Eve party! Hope that helps.

  • I am using an airport express to stream from iTunes to my stereo.  My router is a net gear type G.  Setting up is no problem for the first time.  But, when I close iTunes then restart I have to reset (using the reset button)and reset up.  Wanna do it one?

Using a. Airport express to stream from iTunes.  My Router is a Netgear type G.  The express sets up fine and works the first time.  When I try to use it at a later date after closing then reopening iTunes I have to physically reset the express and then go through the process of finding it again.  Is this normal?

I have a 3rd generation (802.11n capable, 2.4Ghz only) airport express, my problem is that I've tried using it to extend my network and that brick wall, no matter how close I get the express to the room, the signal and throughput in that room becomes abysmal.
As you might imagine, brick is a lot like cement, and it will not allow much of the wireless signal through.
Regarding your Express, there is no such thing as a 3rd Generation model....yet. You likely have a 1st Generation AirPort Express. Check and confirm the Model No on the side of the Express. A 1st Gen model is A1264.
Here's my problem, I don't think the express supports "extending" a network from a wired network jack.
The Express can "extend" wirelessly, or using an Ethernet connection. The configuration for this is very simple, but post back if you need it.
The jack just seems to be shut off
Have you temporarily turned off the wireless on a laptop and tried to connect it using an Ethernet cable to the wall jack as a "test"?
If you can get a good Internet connection this way, then you know the Ethernet cabling and jack are working correctly.
On the other hand, if you cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop during this "test", then this indicates that the Ethernet cable or jack is not functioning correctly and the wiring will need troubleshooting before you can proceed any further.
I need to create a whole new wireless network in this room for this configuration to work?
AirPort Setup will take care of this for you automatically during the configuration of the AirPort Express.
If I have an apple TV connecting to the express and an AppleTV connecting to the extreme, will they both be visible when connected wirelessly to either network?
    Yes
Will I be able to connect to my network seemlessly?
    Yes
Post back after you have confirmed that the Ethernet cable and Ethernet jack are functioning correctly in the temporary "test" mentioned above.  Then, we will continue.

  • How to set up to use Ipad to stream pandora to my home stereo using airport express

I have just purchased Airport Express and want to use it to stream pandora from Ipad to Home Stereo.  I have the necessary RC jack and already have a home wifi network.  any suggestions?

While playing Pandora double click the home button, swipe left twice.  you should see music controls and an "output" icon.  Click the output icon and select the appropriate device.

  • Best Practices for Using Airport Express to Stream iTunes via Ethernet

So I've been reading various posts about using Airport Express to stream iTunes and I've been reading various posts about using the Ethernet port on the Express. However, not sure I've yet found an inclusive listing of settings for both. Wondering if anyone out there has such a thing?
I have an (older) Aiport Express (802.11g, no 'n') running the latest Firmware (6.3, I believe). I have it lashed into my switch via a Cat 6 cable and the 3.5 stereo mini running out to RCA jacks into my RussSound (home audio system) amp. I'd like to make the Express ONLY a iTunes streaming device getting its network link over Ethernet (AirTunes). So, what does everyone suggest for best settings for turning on the Ethernet, turning off the WiFi and running AirTunes?
    Thanks much in advance!
    cheers

Airport > Wireless > Wireless mode "off"
Internet > Internet connection > Connect using "Ethernet", Configure IPv4 "via DHCP"
    Music > Enable Airtunes
Enable Airtunes over Ethernet (if this choice appears).
When I first did this, the remote speakers didn't appear in iTunes. I poked around to see what I missed and couldn't find anything wrong, but the next time I ran iTunes the remote speakers appeared.
If you run into a firewall problem, make sure your OS X firewall is configured to "set access for specific services and applications": http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/18503.html
Firmware 6.3 is correct for your Express.

  • How do I set up iPad with airport express to stream music to stereo without internet connection?

how do i set up iPad and airport express to stream music to stereo without using internet connection.

Your 4th gen iPad does have the necessary software to connect to the AirPort Express but not to administer it. To do the later, you would need to install the AirPort Utility applet.
You said that your iPad can "see" the AirPort's wireless network, but can't connect. What happens exactly when you attempt to do so? Do any of your other wireless devices have any trouble connecting to the Express? Did you configure the Express for a closed network ... that is, not to broadcast its Network Name?

How can I stream Pandora thru Express to my stereo? Safari doesn't seem to provide option to deliver
sound to other than speakers on my Mac.

You will need to use a third-party application, like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil to stream sources other than from iTunes to the AirPort Express or Apple TV.

I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.  I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable.  Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph.  The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output.  Does th stero have an AUX input?  That should be compatible.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • Simplest way to connect my laptop to the airport express to stream music

what would be the simplest way to connect my airport express and my macbook so i can listen to the music i have on itunes on my stereo? Would it affect my purchased band with if i do it thru my wireless modem? can it be done without using cables? Too many questions, thanks!!

Configure Express via AirPort Utility to Join your existing wireless network. Plug the Express into an outlet near your stereo and plug the audio out from the Express into your stereo. You need a 3.5mm plug or optical cable to whatever is available on your stereo.
Would it affect my purchased band with if i do it thru my wireless modem?
Affect your wireless bandwidth? Yes, but it's still the most efficient way to stream. Affect your internet bandwidth? No.

    Yes.

  • AirPort Express with PC -- Setup Problems

    Hi
Just wanted to share my experience -- I wasted most of a day getting my AirPort Express network up. Problem was, the setup software assumes that you have a wireless card in your PC. If, like me, you have a simple ethernet connection to a wireless router, then the program apparently has no way of finding the AirPort Express.
After hours of fumbling with suggestions on this forum, I finally found the tech support number and we figured out that I needed to run the setup program on my laptop, which does have a wireless card.
I would STRONGLY encourage Apple to re-write its setup software to recognize this very common hardware configuration and work with it, lest more customers waste more of their time. I was THIS CLOSE to angrily returning the box. Now that it's up, I really love it, but I almost didn't get there.

I had the same problem as you did with the setup of the AX from a PC connected to the router by Ethernet. I was able to run the setup by using the "Other ..." button at the bottom of the Base Station Chooser and giving it the IP address of the AX.
Does iTunes on the PC connected to the router by Ethernet find the AX? It doesn't for me. It works great from my other 3 PCs that are connected to the network by wireless. Of course, the PC with the problem is the one across the family room from the stereo ...

  • Anyone using Express w/ATT Uverse

hey, I'm getting AT&T's Uverse tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone else is using it. will the Airport Express work with Uverse? how would I hook it up so that my laptop will read the Express' wireless to play music? I'm only using it to play music...Uverse comes with a wireless router. thanks.
    J.

Update: As I was going through the "client" mode setup I realized that is what I have been trying to do all along. And again, no dice.
I did try creating a new network using Express and was able to stream music from my laptop to my Bose with no problem. Of course, when my laptop is "connected" to the new wireless network to send music, it can not connect to the internet because that is on the other "wireless" network. And unfortunately, it is my desktop (without its own wireless) that has the main music library and, of course, my iTunes on the desktop could not see the "new" network. I am getting very tired of working on this. Perhaps I should just go that route; use my laptop as a "dumb" server of music when I want to listen to music and at the same time use my desktop for computing.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

    Is this stream's bug??
Or what mistake do i make??
Can somebody give me some advice??
    Thank you in advance :)

you should have made a new thread of this.
    Hello All,
    Can anyone help?
I'm implementing a chat program with swing, sockets
and threads. I have got a basic version working
perfectly. I decided to upgrade it to include a
configuration (which is loaded and saved to file one
way or another). This configuration makes a record of
    the users' favourite font.
i assume this part works. :)
In version.1 fonts were not implemented, so I was just
reading and writing (printing) from and to the
    socket's I/O streams - no problem there.
In version.2 I have implemented a Message class, which
when sent contains the name of the sender (ie. what
the sender signed in as) the actually message as a
String, and a Font which is the font the sender uses.
I have tried to use the socket I/O streams :
    1). to create Object I/O streams;
2). to create Bean XMLEncoders and XMLDecoders.
Neither of these two methods work and they are the
only way I can think of achieving what I want to do.
To be honest I don't know what happens - the JVM
doesn't throw an exception, just the instance acting
as the client hangs, while the instance acting as the
server ticks over as per usual. If I end the client
process (through task manager) an exception is thrown
    in the server.it sounds like:
    1. your server isn't very robust. :) any server operating in the real world should expect and deal with broken messages.
    2. you need to read up on ObjectInputStreams and ObjectOutputStreams. if you want to go that route, they're what you need to look at.
personally, i'd recommend that you provide methods in the Message class to convert to and from a String, and send the Strings through a Writer attached to the socket. it's easier to recover from errors that way: you could throw a MessageFormatException or other such error without trashing your input stream. plus, it'd be easier to write non-java clients, in case you ever decide to go that route.

  • Streaming stereo via blue tooth

I have read posts regarding streaming stereo bluetooth and how it is not on the iphone. I also read some ways using v/m that people have faked the phone...
Do you think that streaming ipod music in STEREO via bluetooh is a software update? I know we cannot speak to when it will happen, i am just trying to determine if it is software update or would require new hardware (new gen iphone)
I am trying to decide if I want to get a bluetooth stereo headset or not
    Thanks

I stream music in stereo to my Jabra 8010 Bluetooth headset. It supports two items pairing with it so I have my iPhone paired and the the Jabra A120S trainsmitter. It works perfectly UNTIL and WHEN/IF A2DP is activated. I would then use the transmitter for other purposes but for now works perfectly like I have bluetooth stereo. There are other transmitters available from Blue Ant, iSkin and others.
    Good Luck!
