Using External CD Rom drive to import music from CD to Itune

I have itunes 6.0 on an XP laptop, and an external TDK DVD/CDrom drive. Itunes imports music from CDs when I use the drive on the laptop, however, only imports links (seem like URL links) when I use the external drive to import music from a CD into a playlist.
I am trying to use the external CD rom drive for importing music into Itunes, but there seems to be a problem, or I have not checked some box or the other. Can someone help??
Thanks

First, Jaguar does not come on a DVD. The standard Jaguar release comes on two CDs. What you probably have is a gray color OEM DVD or a copy that was made for a specific Mac model and will not work with your computer. Furthermore, in order to run OS X on your computer you must first install a firmware update.
You also need at least 128 MBs of RAM for OS X and at least 3 GBs of free space on the hard drive during installation. Your particular model requires that OS X be installed on a drive or partition that is less than 8 GBs. If your hard drive is larger than 8 GBs it must be partitioned such that the first partition is no larger than 7.85 GBs and OS X must be installed in that partition. The drive must also be formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+).
Furthermore, you cannot boot OS X from a USB drive, only from a Firewire drive.
You will need to get the correct Jaguar installers. You can purchase the right package at www.applerescue.com. Your particular model is compatible with Panther thru 10.3.9. Panther would be a better choice than Jaguar because it is much faster even on your iMac. However, OS X will not be very fast on your computer because it lacks CPU speed and video horsepower. If you continue to install OS X, then you should plan to install the maximum of 512 MBs of RAM that iMac supports.

I have a Samsung s3 and would finally like to import the music to my ITunes library via windows 7 desk top or Mac pro laptop?

See turingtest2's user tip on Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for information on various 3rd party tools that can be used to recover content from iDevices to iTunes.  You can also achieve a partial recovery (media only, possibly without artwork), as follows:
Run iTunes with your iPod not connected, select Edit > Preferences > Devices and check the Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically box
Connect your iPod, select the Summary tab and check the Enable disk use box
    Exit iTunes
You should now be able to see your iPod as a disc drive in Windows Explorer.  Make sure that you've configured Windows to show hidden files and folders (Organize > Folder Search and Options, View tab).
Open the iPod_Control folder on your iPod, and copy the Music folder that you'll see there to your desktop
Still using Windows Explorer, right click on the Music folder just copied to your desktop and make sure that both the Read-only and Hidden flags are cleared.
Run iTunes, select File > Add Folder to Library..., navigate to and select the Music folder on your desktop
The previous content of your iPod should now be added to your library.  Any songs/albums for which you'd previously used the Get Album Artwork function will no longer have associated images, but these should be easily redone.
This should be regarded as an "emergency" procedure only.  There's no excuse for not maintaining an up to date backup of your iTunes library (as with any data that you value) - computers, and in particular hard drives, always fail ... you just don't know when it's going to happen.  See another of tt2's user tips - Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy - for a suitable/recommended method.  Although cloud-based backups are the way things are headed, its probably still simpler to use an external hard drive - this may not be as high-tech as using the cloud but is more robust, at least as far as not having dependence on an internet connection.

  • Importing music from iPhone onto iTunes on another computer

ive recently moved into a new house and have no permanent computer/laptop, i've authorised my phone on 2 computers but each computer has different music on. i just want to put all the music onto one computer, how do i import the music currently on my phone to my intended iTunes?

Why hot just use your backup copy to move your music or copy them to dvd,cd, external drive, flash drive etc?
The music sync on iphone is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
Otherwise you will need to use ( at your risk) a third party program ( not supported by Apple).

  • ITunes won't import music from iPhone to iTunes Library

I have a large Purchased playlist on my iPhone. However, none of these songs will sync to my iTunes. They are shown in my Music tab under my phone but not in my actual iTunes library. Clicking sync shows the songs greyed out in my library with the progress wheel momentarily, but then they disappear from the library - as if it cancelled the syncing to my laptop. This is just one of numerous issues I am having with iTunes. Anyone know of a fix? I've already restored my phone due to other issues I was having as of a couple days ago, and I've already deleted all my music from my phone and attempted to re-sync it, but nothing works. So many issues with this program. What gives, Apple?

  • How to i import music from the new itunes to the iphone5

i recently upgraded my iphone4 to iphone5, i used iclloud to back up everything but my music, all my music is on itunes (the new itunes - i had to download the new itunes because of the phone) i have tired several times to sync my phone to import my music onto this new iphone but its not working.
    i have authorised the computer
i tried to import my music with itunes match - this didnt work
i have switched itumes match off
i tried to sync automatically - this didnt work
i also tried to manually import my music and this didnt work either
i dont know what else i can do... can anybody help?

iTunes will transfer the purchases made from the iTunes Store from your iPhone to your computer. It treats all other music syncing as a one-way street, to comply with copyright laws (wont sync stuff not purchased on iTunes from your iPhone to your computer).
But, you can import the other songs from a computer backup or rip them from a CD again. Then sync them to the new iPhone.

  • How do you import music from an ipod to itunes?

How do you import music from an ipod to itunes?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to import music from iPod to iTunes. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • Externa cd rom drive

i need to buy an external cd rom drive but i cant find one that can work with tiger, do you know where i could find one?

    re: Tiger2010 & OldSchoolApple:
To reply to two first-time posts, following a thread of slightly different
content, which original posting questions had been answered...
You should open a new thread containing your own questions and
cite your own circumstances; then the item would not appear to be
"answered" in the line-up of inquires in the Discussion your appears.
And, as users of Mac products, we cannot cite policy and have no
authority beyond unsubstantiated speculation (against forum rules)
to give you an answer regarding Apple Inc policy on their products
or any services you may have had performed by their agents; so
you may have to call Support or Sales support if your question is
about a product and you need a definite answer.
If you bought a product at retail, you probably have to take it back
to the point of sale, and discuss the matter there; or call ahead to
the store (or if Apple online, their main number in web page header)
to see about getting the matter taken care of under their rules.
Since you (both) +appear to have a mirrored-exact post and ask of+
+the same product+ I could easily surmise both were one person &
the answer here, from me would be the same. As Mac users, and
not employees or representatives of Apple, we can't answer policy
or return or credit matters. And there is a matter of protocol involved.
You may have to check for additional driver support from the drive's
manufacturer web site; to see if there is anything different. Or check
the software if any was included with the third-party drive, and read
to see if there is a reason to believe it is needed at all.
And, an answer does depend on what you intend to do with the product.
Some external drive units are best if they have their own power supply
and do not depend on the computer; and if they are to boot an OS X
from the drive, to install or repair the computer software, then be sure
the product you choose has the correct design within it to do so.
One answer would be to return the product and get something known to
be more supportive of use with a Mac, either Intel or PPC-based, per
the needs of respective circumstances and needs in each environment.
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!
