USING FACETIME ON INTEL IMAC

DOES FACETIME WORK ON AN INTEL IMAC?

My wife has it on her MBP to FaceTime me on my iPhone and vice versa. Works well. Does cost $.99 though. I also have it on my MBP (only have to pay once if same apple ID) and we can FaceTime on our laptops. You could iChat too, but you need two screen names. FaceTime seems quicker.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

  • Anyone using a NEW intell iMac with Logic?

I've got many great responses on both sides to my question regarding my quest to determine which machine to use with Logic -- new Mac Pro (the ultimate) or new iMac (likely cover my bases for a long while and save major cash now). One point raised against iMac was fan noise smack dab in the middle of the listening field with the older iMacs. So a sub question to my original is this:
Are there any NEW intell iMac users out there who are using Logic? Is fan noise a problem? Generally, how do you like the iMac's feasibility as a music workstation with Logic? How many tracks/effects are you running and how is it working for you?

Before those concerns are completely alleviated, go over to the iMac hardware forum and do a search for firewire issues. Like actual physical problems with the jacks on the 20" iMac and having drives just completely "disappear".
the reason you will find issues including firewire ones on the imac forum is because it is a forum for people with issues. it may or may not be the case that there is a subsantial issue with FW on the intel imacs, but obviously people who are having issues are going to pop up there making it seem like everyone is having an issue.
for certain types of music production, an imac would be completely unsuitable. but for others it will be ideal.
there drawback of having 800 and 400 FW bus shared is that if you have a 400 device it will slow down 800 devices to 400. that means it would be ideal for impiro to have either both FW drive and interface as 800's or not go to any further expense of getting an 800 hard drive to use for audio since he would not beneift from the speed.
not a great big deal IMO.
iMac DOES lack expandibility, but it doesn't lack horses. actually i would say (and have said) that impiro would do better with an older tower to allow for expandability because he doesn't need that many horses to do what he needs to do. and i certainly feel that it is unnecessary to spend money on a computer that would be better spent on other things relating to the move to computer based music mixing.
never-the-less, the kind of live musician-audio-based music impiro is going to be making is childs play for modern computers. he will be able to run loads of tracks and plug-ins before a new imac will even break a sweat. even with an interface and a FW drive on 1 bus running at 400. he just won't be able to run loads and loads.
and man....even if he decides to get more heavily into it and start buying third party cards and this that and the next thing he can look at the next computer being a tower. personally, i am changing my computer every 3 years or less - it'll take him at least that long to find the ceiling on a new imac.

  • I want to use facetime but my iMac says I have to use a different email addys!

I want to use facetime on multiple machines but my iMac says I have to use a different email addys!  Needing multiple email addresses for using Facetime on multiple Apple devices seems really ridiculous to me.  What is the way around that?

you won't get that feature until apple releases the new IOS 6 http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/#facetime for normal users.
Are your friends developers who are trying out the beta IOS 6?

  • Turbo Tax For windows and Mac - OK to use on Core Intel iMac??

Won't be long before taxes are due! ..My wife bought Turbo Tax at Costco and I'm hoping that it's ok to use on our new Intel iMac. Have any of you loaded this on your iMacs? Any problems??
    Thx,
    Syd123

I also bought TurboTax at Costco, and used it without any problems on my iMac Core Duo. I was a little bit concerned because others on Intuit's support forum have reported that they're unable to get the version purchased at Costco to update, but everything went smoothy.
Now just waiting for my refund!

  • G3 iMac used to boot Intel iMac?

This may be a bit of a lame question, but can an old 333mhz iMac boot an Intel iMac in the event of a crash?
I have a local seller of a CRT iMac for $75.
Besides giving to my 3 year-old to play with(games, etc.), do I have better options?
    A response would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stephen
17" iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2-5G iPods, iPod Shuffle and 250Gig Lacie HD

Well, the level of incompatibility is such the one machine cannot be used
to boot the other one; no matter the semantics of the situation. And the
other one, can't boot the first one, either. Their installed systems and
hardware are far different; but file sharing and networking allow some
other useful experiences if they are configured & a network set up for this.
The answer, as per "re: G3 iMac used to boot Intel Mac?" is still "no."
But if you had two machines that could each, separately, use a full retail
universal 10.4.8 (intel and ppc) dual system supported installer, you could
boot both machines from said boot/installer disc#1; so long as both supported
the optical drive required and other hardware was up to the necessary support level.
Migrating is a nice way to move some older computer things over to a new
computer; some documents and unsupported software would not work in the
newer computer; unless there was some provision to use the older pre
Intel software in the new machine, that would be a dead end, too.
But that was not the initial question as I saw it; though I may have missed something...
[If the old iMacG3 had Panther 10.3.9 installed (from CD set)
    and more RAM, a larger hard disk drive, a new clock battery;
and if it checks out OK and worth this effort, it could be more
than a toy for a kid. Or it could be a good toy, if you get some
    educational software and games, maybe.]

  • I cannot use facetime on my iMac

Everytime that I try to use FaceTime, it tells me the person that I'm trying to call is not available. My Daughter can call me but I cannot call her. I'm trying to call her using her e-mail address, the same way that she contacted me. I'm totalally at a loss, as to why this is happening
Thank you for your anticipated help with this matter.

  • Using Tiger on Intel iMacs

From what I have read on these posts, there are quite a few people who are upset at not being able to boot into Tiger on the new Intel iMacs and I include myself in this group. I understand that the reason this is not possible is that the firmware doesn't allow this, only allowing Leopard to be run on machines that originally shipped with Leopard installed. It seems that a fairly easy solution would be for Apple to come out with an optional firmware revision that would allow this. It sure would make a lot of people happy, people who don't want to run Leopard for whatever reasons or by people who would like the flexibility of a dual boot system on separate partitions like I was able to do on my old PPC iMac G5 and I had the best of both worlds. I would like to hear the thoughts of other users on this issue , maybe if enough people were interested in this, Apple would solve this problem by coming out with this optional firmware revision. They could even charge a small fee for it and I'd be willing to pay. What you think?

    Donald Kerian wrote:
Just bought the iMac (model identifier: iMac 7,1) last week from Apple Store. I assume that it's the newest model and it DID ship with Leopard pre installed which, according to all info I've been able to gather, installing Tiger on it would be impossible because of the firmware limitations.
What Kappy said! All intel iMacs can run Tiger.
The new ALU iMacs were originally shipped with Tiger (before Leopard arrived)
and the hardware hasn't changed since then, so there's no technical obstacle
to running Tiger on your hardware.
However, you will need an ALU iMac compatible version of Tiger -- and that's
available ONLY on the install disks that came with the pre-Leopard ALU iMacs
(because there has never been an Intel-compatible "retail" version of Tiger).
Call Apple and order a "replacement set" of Tiger install disks for your iMac.

  • I use the oldest intel iMac, 1.86 GHz Intel I have iTunes 11.1.2 on it but it will not open.  Do I need an different iTunes?

My iTunes will not open when I click on it.  It thinks it does, it records that it was opened but it is inaccessible to me.  I wonder if I downloaded one that is too modern for me.  I just downloaded iTunes 11.1.4 but I discover I need a 2 GHz processor and an Intel Core 2 Duo Hard Drive for that version.  It makes me wonder if I needed that for the 11.1.2 version.  I run OS 10.6.8 and that is the requirement for the 11.1.4 version.  I have only an Intel Core Duo hard drive.  It is the first Inter iMac that was made.
    Looking for help.  Susan

11.1.4 simply specifies and Intel Core processor and 10.6.8 so it should run fine. I should start by going to (user)/Library/Preferences and deleting all .plist files beginning with com.apple.itunes (there will probably be quite a lot of them) - do this with iTunes not running, of course. See if it then opens: you will need to reset your preferences.

  • Kernel Panic using modem on Intel iMac

Received the new iMac two days ago and all seems well under Rosetta, including the AOL client, which Walt Mossberg reported would not work. I got the external USB modem as a backup if/when my cable service dies. Every time I try to dial out I get a kernel panic as soon as I click connect. I sent the problem logs into Apple support with note upon restart. Anyone else try this and have a problem?

  • Using intel imac for live radio?

hello,i need to use my new intel imac for live radio broadcasting, how do i do this??????...my mate who runs the server says i download winamp the shoutcast, can get shoutcast but winamp wont download properly, all i get is a picture which is blank of the file
can i use itunes????..or summit else??
    thanks

"Mac OS X, Tiger Edition" by David Pogue (2005) briefly discusses the issue I raised on page 649ff. Under "The Software Base Station Effect," he says that a Mac with an AirPort card and an Ethernet or other connection to the internet (e.g. via DSL or cable modem) can serve as a "gateway" for other 802.11g equipped machines.
I've ordered a D-Link DWL-G650 802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter to install in the Dell laptop, and will see how it goes.

  • Intel iMac with failed LogicBoard - can I use it as display for my MacMini?

I have a Intel iMac with failed logic board (the display comes up while booting sometimes and sometimes, it doesn't). I bought a Mac Mini afterwards. I connected it to a Dell monitor with HDMI and the results aren't great. I experience interminttent video losses (Grains on screen every 1 minute or so).
So, I am now thinking about using my failed intel Imac as a display. Will it work?

No, the failed imac is dead until you replace the logic board.

  • HT6001 updated iTunes on intel iMac and now it won't open at all

I'm using a 2007 intel imac 20" (2ghz intel core 2 duo) and itunes just updated automatically (to 11.1.4). Now it will not open, I just get an error message "iTunes quit unexpectedly" before it even opens. There seems to be no way to uninstall itunes on OS X 10.9.1. I have restarted to no avail. Any ideas? (no, time machine is not setup)
    Thanks!

please, any help at all? I'm about to throw this imac out a window and never by another apple product again.
