Using "Favorites"

I'd like to start including the Favorites tool in our help
file as I think both our own staff as well as our customers would
appreciate it.
However, I'm wondering how Favorites is affected when we
update and send out new help files. If they replace an existing
.chm with a new one, are their existing Favorites blown away or
will they still work?
Help is not, well, helpful, but I assume that a user's
favorites settings are stored in a separate file. Would this file
be compatible with a new version of the same .chm (assuming the
.chm and the bookmarked topics retain the same names)?

Hi KC,
HTML Help favorites are stored in the Windows user's
Application Data folder. In file called HH.dat to be more precise.
And yes, assuming the .chm and the bookmarked topics retain the
same names the favorites should persist throughout new versions of
your Help. That's been my experience anyway.
For Windows XP machines you can find hh.dat in 'C:\Documents
and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML

If you mean the Blank starting page for Safari, you can tap open the box with the arrow ion Safari when visiting a Page to Bookmark it and add it to the Favorites list. It will then appear in the Favorites start page for Safari when you open a new tab.
If you mean your Phones home screen where your Apps are you can use the same process except tapping on Add to Homescreen instead of Bookmark.

Why can I no longer use "favorites" since the last Firefox update????

I imported all my Favorites from Internet explorer when I first began using Firefox. I click on "favorites" and I get a complete list of all the URLs I use a lot. After the last update, the list no longer appears. I've reloaded the app and no joy. It still works if I quit firefox and use IE.

Alternately, you can import your IE Favorites into Firefox's Bookmarks system. However, if you plan to add new Favorites in IE, then they would not be the same between browsers, so perhaps that isn't the right approach for you.

You dont use Font Book to change fonts in Mail.
open Mail > open a new message > Show Fonts
click in the text message pane
click on the font, size and colour you want to use
type your text

One more thing:
What's missing is favorites is a way to use the favorites space in the Common Open File Dialog Box.
Please obsolete or (re)develop components in Windows, so those components support any new workflows in Windows!
On example of an application where you cannot use Favorites is Adobe Photoshop. It uses the Common Open File Dialog Box in Windows (which does not support Favorites).
Comparing Finder (MacOS) with Windows Explorer - you "seem" to have the option of using favorites to pin folders.
Well, if your application calls Windows to use the Common Open File Dialog Box - it's actually NOT POSSIBLE AT ALL to navigate to the user concepts (user folders) pinned to favorites.
Again, the favorites namespace is completely unused (not provisioned) out-of-the-box. That's may be ok, however it's not fully implemented across Windows and just another example of stuff accumulating up to being unusable.

In ios 6.1.3 I do not have an add to favorites button at the bottom right of my contacts - how do I add a phone number to favorites?

New in this forum and looking for help with ios 6.1.3. In previous versions I could add phone numbers to favorites - most recently using "add to favorites" at the bottom right of my contact. Now there are only 3 choices - "Send Message" - "Face Time" - "Share Contact" and no "Add to Favorites." Any help on this would be appreciated - I have used Favorites for years and can't do it now with new contacts.

Your suggestion worked perfectly. I can't believe there is nothing in any of the instructions I have seen online at the Yahoo and Apple help sites about the making sure the right default account is checked. I don't think I was even aware there was a "default account" setting. Thank you so much.

When I use firefox and have several tabs open, I can only navigate between them by minimazing and maximazing FF in the taskbar and then clicking on the other tab. When I want to click on content on the website (say a link) I need to mini/maximize again.

If I want to switch to the other tab again, it only works if I do that again. It seems that I can either use the content of a website or use the functions of firefox, (like navigating between tabs, using favorites, typing in the address bar) but not at the same time. I always need to minimize and maximize the program by clicking on the task bar. This goes back and forth forever.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Anyone else have the favorites bar showing up on iPhone?

I Have looked all over to see if anybody else is having this same issue, but have found nothing. I have a very annoying issue where the favorites bar (also called the bookmarks bar) that is in Safari on the desktop or on the iPad in landscape mode, showing up on my iPhone (only in landscape). I have the 6+, running 8.1, and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be there, because as I scroll down, and it goes into full screen, the text from the bar is persistent and is clickable. this also causes an issue where the selectable items on websites become off. I click buttons and nothing happens, but if I tap off to the side of it, then the button would work. I've added a screenshot

It looks like something happened to the pictures. (they were working) So i'll but them back up. also I have more news on this issue. I am able to reproduce the issue if I open safari on my iPhone while my iPhone is in landscape mode. If I open safari in portrait mode, then turn it to landscape mode, the favorites bar will not show up. I also think this might be somehow connected to how I set up my iPhone when I first got it. I did not have an iPhone before I got the 6+, but i did have an iPad mini running IOS 8. I "restored" my phone from an iPad backup. In the iPad, it has the option to use favorites bar in safari, and I did have that turned on. I'm not 100% sure this is the cause of my issue, but it something to look at if anybody else is having this issue. Because the iPhone is not supposed to support the favorites bar in safari, there is not way of turning off the favorites bar in the settings. I still have no current way of fixing the problem, But i was just sharing my findings and thoughts.

my client requirement is when he run reports on Internet Explorer(iviews),
he wants to save his reports on Favorites by using Favorites-->Add to favorites.
when he came back & click that saved link, he wants to display the report as usal.
is it possible? if yes, please let me know how we achieve this?

Yes its possible through Bookmark. but what user wants is he used Fav-->Add to Fav. menu item in Internet Explorer. how he says the report in IE is,
After Query initial view, means selection conditions.., user enter all desired input to the selections, and executed the query.., now report is displayed.
Now user is trying to add in his favorites menu by using Fav--> Add to Fav.
when he came back again, he used the link in Fav. and wants display the Report with all selection conditions. is it possible AHP.

What is the "Bookmarks Bar" and how do I use it?

I've been all over my iPad user guide and can find zero information about the "bookmarks bar" except how to make it appear and disappear. I am now able to make a blank area near the top of the Safari screen appear and disappear - GREAT!!!! Information as to what this area may contain, how to place and remove items from it, etc is NOWHERE! If there is anyone out there that uses this feature, please explain what it is and if you find it useful.
In windows internet explorer, there is a "favorites bar" near the top of the screen where I can place the icons for my most used favorites. Instead of opening a favorites menu and scrolling through it to find what I want, I just click the icon that is always present at the top of the internet explorer page - really useful. I imagine that "bookmarks bar" is a similar feature in Safari but it's completely ignored in the iPad user guide.

This was easy and does exactly what I thought it would do! What threw me off was the menu that pops up when you go to save a page as a bookmark. The menu lists 6 choices: Add bookmark; Add to reading list; Add to home screen; mail link to this page; Tweet; and Print. Notice there is no choice to "add to bookmarks bar". You have to select "add bookmark" and then within the next process box you have the option to specify an alternative to bookmark. When you look for the alternatives, "bookmarks bar" shows up. Not exactly obvious, is it?
It's almost like they don't don't want you to use it. This is absolutely OBTUSE!

Can any oneadvise me how you tell when you have used a clip in your time line. i am finding it hard to work out which clips I have used.

in FCPX, this should be a 'switchable', optional indicator
a well-known, common workaround is:
select a clip in the Project timeline
hit shift-F = find that section in the Event
hit F = mark this as a 'Favorite'
=> now used parts are 'marked' with a bar.

Real Menu for Safari Favorites?

Since I'm a hyper-organized type, I maintain a lengthy Bookmarks database in Safari, with a multi-layer hierarchical structure. At the top of this structure is a folder called " • Favorites" which contains a longish set of duplicate copies of-- you guessed it -- current heavily used favorite links. (The " • " is of course a way to keep that folder at the top of the Bookmarks menu display.)
Menu access to any of these favorite links is then Bookmarks >> • Favorites >> someFavoriteLink. But I'm realizing I want it to be even quicker. I'd like to be able to create a "Favorites" menu -- a real menu bar menu item, sitting right between the "Bookmarks" and "Window" menu items in the Safari menu bar, that would contain all these wanted favorite link copies, and nothing else.
Any way to do this, in Safari itself (no complex third-party addons)? Thanks.

In a word, no I've not heard of any third party tools that can do this either.
Have you considered having the 'Favorites' menu on the bookmark bar of Safari instead of under the application menu? E.g. The News, Money, etc folders I have on mine shown below

Clicking on Favorites gives "operation could not be completed"

Unknown operating system error has occurred.
I'm using the latest version of Bridge. I reset preferences with no effect. I then trashed the prefs file--no difference.
I can add things to favorites, but when I click on the tab name I get the error. If I hide the Favorites window, then display it (thus giving it focus) I get the error when I click on anything in the window.
I also purged the cache.
Basically, I can't use favorites. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video, can't see anything strange on it and it should work
without problems. You are looking at folder and files on a second internal
disk by the look of the path bar but that should also not be a problem. I
just tried this on my system and there where no problems displaying the
favorite items after clicking on them, whether on the root disk or on other
disks (internal and external).
You are using the Essential Default workspace as I think I see. Have you
already tried to reset this workspace using the triangle next to the row
with workspace names and from the menu choose reset workspace?
Other option is again quit Bridge, from the user library preferences folder
find Bridge plist file (for CS5 this is Bridge4.plist) and delete this
manual to the trash.
Then from same user library go to application
support/Adobe/Bridge/Workspaces and delete "!!LastMenu.workspace" to the
trash.
Restart Bridge holding down option key and choose reset preferences.
Then add the wished favorites again to the favorites panel (if correct the
default favorites panel would be restored after resetting and your old
custom folders should not be present anymore)
First add some folders without setting any preferences and try if it works.
If OK set prefs to your wishes and then again try if it still works.
Could you report back on this

Bookmarks and favorites locked together

After the new update a few things changed that i want to change back.
The favorites and bookmark icons is locked together. I used to have them on separate locations.
When pressing the bookmarks iron, a dropdown menu appears. I would like it to instead instantly open the bookmarks sidebar like it used to do before.
How can i change these 2 things back to the way it used to be?

Favorites and Bookmarks are different words for the same thing. IE uses Favorites.
Ctrl + B would give you the Bookmarks sidebar.

The term favorites, or favourites, is used by other browsers such as Internet Explorer, whereas Firefox uses the term bookmarks.
The technology behind the two also differs somewhat, but it is still for instance possible to import favourites from IE to Firefox see
