Using "File" as the technology in ODI Designer to populate dimensions

I am currently following your blog on "ODI series 4 - Enter the Designer" and so far I have been successful with the following:
1) Connecting to the planning application
2) Performing Reverse operation
However, when I create a new model by selecting "File" as the technology, even after selecting "Standard" under the "Reverse" tab and selecting proper context (as created earlier), I am not able to see the "Files" tab as shown in the blog.
I am not able to get to the following "Insert a new DataStore and give it a name and if you click browse for file button it should open up in the correct directory and you can select the csv file." Where do I insert a new Datastore?
Without this option I am not able to move forward. I would appreciate any help with this.

Hi,
First of all have you set up the physical schema for the File technology in the topology manager, adding the context and logical schema name.
Next in the designer you will need to Insert Model using the file technology and the logical schema that was created in the topology manager.
Now you can right click the Model and insert Datastore, you should be able to click the Resource Name, select the file and carry on from there.

Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.

The scenario is:- say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!
If i don't solve it, she will get fired!

If you mean an AirPort base station other than the Time Capsule, it doesn't have internal storage.
If you mean a Time Capsule, its internal drive can be used for regular file storage but shouldn't be; as with all drives, it'll eventually fail. You're better off using a standalone drive and setting Time Machine to back it up as well.

I disabled GateKeeper's automatic blocking of unrecognised developers, and so I was able to install the driver.
The Mobile Connect program is now installed, but the computer still does not recognise the modem.
I also borrowed a USB hub from a friend and it didn't make a difference.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Hi Mani,
The hierarchy is like Data Models/Stores are Used In Interfaces, Interfaces are used in Packages.
So if you wanna delete anything in this hierarchy you need to delete the referenced one.
For deleting an Interface you no need to delete the data models/stores, you need to delete the interface in Package where its used.
Cross check again and there should be some reference in the Package for that Interface.
Also you can't able to use an Interface at MODEL.

I have my iTunes Library on and external hard drive. I have a new computer and want to use iTunes and KEEP my files on the external drive.

My iTunes library is on an external hard drive, and I was able to access / add to the library from my windows laptop.
I now have a new laptop, and want to be able to KEEP the library on the external drive while being able to use iTunes from the new laptop.
I have selected "choose library" in iTunes, and have chosen the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.
My media populates in iTunes on the new laptop version of iTunes, but when I click on a song iTunes says that it cannot locate the song.

Thanks. Were the settings shown in your last screenshot in force when you added the song that's shown on being on the C: drive? It is also possible that at some point you ran iTunes with the external drive disconnected, in which case it will have defaulted to the library on the C: drive, or that you've run iTunes without explicitly selecting the library on the E: drive. To make sure the latter is the case, hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes, then when you get this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to the location of your current iTunes Library.itl file, and click Open.
Part of your issue may that its not obvious where that current database file is located. The folder layout on your E: drive isn't the one that's most easily managed - so its possible that the database file could be in:
E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes
E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes
E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes 1
I suggest that a lot of your issues can be addressed by reshaping your library into the reliable "portable" layout as described in tt2's Make a split library portable user tip. Comparing your screenshot with the equivalent on my system (where I have a "well-formed" library on an external drive):

there is just one iTunes folder with everything used by iTunes inside it
all media is held within subfolders of the iTunes Media folder
The way you have yours set up, where the iTunes Media Folder location is set to E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes rather than E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes Media is probably why some of your media is not being located correctly - the extent to which iTunes can correctly resolve locations is, to an extent, reliant on the folders for the different media kinds (Music, Audiobooks, etc.) being inside the iTunes Media media folder. One common misunderstanding (not helped at all by Apple's documentation!) is that the iTunes Media Folder location setting in Edit > Preferences > Advanced does not tell iTunes where to find anything; rather it determines where iTunes will put new additions to your Library, in conjunction with the Copy files to iTunes Media folder ... flag:
I would definitely take the time to work through the steps to bring your library into the "portable" shape - there may be few remaining issues with broken links when that's complete but this will be much easier to fix if your library is in a more standard structure.

IPhone 5 using data all the time

My husband has had his iPhone 5 for a couple of weeks. We have Verizon 300 mb plan, as he is mainly just using it for calls and text. But it is using data all the time! Today our online Verizon account is showing 59 episodes of data usage. They are small, but still, why are they there? All he has done is call and text. He would like to keep the cellular data on because he texts by talking to it. He did not send anything close to 59 texts.n was not on the Internet.
We have turned off practically everything. Location services, stocks, weather, email, notifications for everything except text and calls. Stopped it from sending data to Apple. He has added only 4 apps- cam wow, talking bird, talking cat, and free cell solitaire. Not signed in for iCloud or Facebook or anything.

Is Digi a CDMA carrier? or is it GSM/UTMS?
If CDMA, that's normal. The technology was not designed for data and calling.
If its GSM, give them a call to seek resolution.

Mac Pro accessing SMB shares on a windows server. After being left on all night, the MP gets "file unavailable" messages when opening files on the share.

Windows Server 2003 accessed by several PCs and Macs without previous incident. This one Mac Pro after it's been left on all night (running jobs, or just left idle), and a user tries to reconnect to an SMB share, can go to Finder, Go, Connect to Server, enter the Server info as normal, login as normal, view the directories and files as normal, but as soon as they try to open anything they are given one of the following messages:
"Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, \ /). (<filename>)" - when opening a word document
"<filename> could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted." - when opening an excel spreadsheet
Note that these messages are popping up AFTER the user has double-clicked on them to open them. So the files are certainly there and correctly named (and contain only letters, numbers and underscores). After restarting the Mac Pro, the error messages are gone and the files can be accessed without problem. Would like it so that they can connect to the server without having to restart every day.

I would like to store all my files (music, photos, etc.) in the cloud or on NAS. I would then like Air to automatically store a subset of files stored locally based on limits I set (favourites, certain photos albums, playlists, and most commonly used files) aka the 20% of files I use 80% of the time. I would then like it so that if I was connected to the internet, I could access any file (without having to use some alternative application / website to access them).
Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Cannot insert Model using ODI designer?

I have installed ODI in Windows XP. When I log in ODI designer, I want to insert a new Model.
For definition->Technology, I select "Oracle", for "Action Group", I select "Oracle Default", but "logical schema" is shown "Undefined", so I cannot select anything, just select "Undefined".
For Reverse->Context,it is showing "undefined", this is the only option I can see in Reverse->Context.
But if I want to apply and save the setting, an error message pop up and say: "the field Reverse contet is mandatory".
How to insert Oracle Model in ODI designer?

Here is my step:
1. Connect to Designer
2. Insert Model.
3. In the Definition tab, fill in the Name field.
4. In the Technology field, select the model's technology. - I select Oracle
5. In the Logical Schema field, select the Logical Schema on which your model will be based. - No Logical Schema can be selected?
6. Go to the Reverse tab, and select a Context which will be used for the model's reverseengineering.
Click Apply. --No context can be selected?
7. Apply - Error happen!

Did you check in the Topology Manager if the Logical schema that you are referring to has been defined for the Technology Oracle ?
It seems like you have not created a Physical and Logical Schema in Topology Manager.
Also, the Contexts need to be defined in Topology Manager. Only then you can see them in the Reverse tab.

I read up and I think I am supposed to use exFAT or FAT32? I also saw MS-DOS. Which format should I should use? Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
My little memory stick uses MS-DOS and it works on both mac and windows.
Please can you just tell me a little about each and suggest which one to use.
I know how to change it once you tell me so don't waste your time writing about changing it.

WARNING: FORMATTING A DRIVE ERASES IT COMPLETELY !!
If you need to carry large files (e.g., larger than about 4GB) back and forth, you may need ExFAT. Otherwise MS-DOS works for smaller files.
The Mac can Read, but not write Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) without an add-on program such as Paragon NTFS.

When using a Seagate 1T external hard drive and Time Machine to back up hourly, if I delete photo files from the Mac hard drive before the next back up, are these retained on the Seagate drive or will they be lost (overwritten) in the next backu in the ne

Does Time Machine erase previously saved files if, say, photos are deleted from the Macbook upon the next update, or will they be stored indefinately despite the current status of the files stored on the computer? Eg. can I bckup photo files to a Seagate 1T disc and then delete them to make more room on the computer in the knowlwdge that they are always going to be on the Seagate disc? Sorry if this is very elementary but I have not used a back up before like this, and am not sure how successive backups are overlaid or retained. Thanks!!

TM is not designed to do what you ask. As Allan wrote TM is an incremental backup not an archival solution.
If you delete a file from the HD it will eventually be removed from the TM backup (if it ever makes it on to the backup at all).
How long before it is removed depends on a number of factors, TM disk drive size being one factor but not the only one.
Material that is impossible to replace and is important to you (image files usually fitting that description) need to be backed up to as least one other drive and preferably more for long term storage.

Not sure if this would solve your requirment but just in case might be helpful:
1. We can mix up the HTML and HTMLB components in the JSP Page. However, can access only the HTMLB components in the controller. The following link refers to what customizations are offered by the HTMLB framework:

2. Another option would be to use AbstractPortalComponents or a simple web app if that's feasible. (where custom UI themes, css and layout are more in control of the developers.)
