Using "find my iPhone" abroad
Hi:
I live in the UK and can use the "find my iphone" app using iCloud and my Apple ID to track my phone (and other devices like iPad etc). I use it quite often when I've left my phone somewhere in the house and can't find it, reasurring myself that it is in the house, and then using the alert to help me find it !
I'm going off to Spain for a few weeks cycling the Camino, and I want my partner to be able to tell where I am. I'll often be in the middel of nowhere, probably with poor phone signal and poor wifi coverage. So, I was wondering if my partner can log on to my iCloud account and by using "find my iphone" get an idea of when my iPhone is (and where I am) and check my progress.
Will this work just with a phone signal and gps positioning ? Or does it require wifi ?

Find My iPhone should work with any data connection to the internet, whether through wifi or your cellular data network. If you're out of the country, however, unless you have an international data plan this may require very expensive data roaming charges.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

Can you use find my iPhone with iPad and iPhone and the same icloud account for both?
I have an iPhone and iPad. I use find my iPhone for both. If I use the same icloud account for both, how do I separate them on the map, or if I lose one and want to remote wipe the lost one but not the one in my possession?
It will list each device separately, I even have two macs along with my ipad listed

My iphone was stolen, I used find my iphone app, and found that it was offline, however when tried locking mode option, I pressed remove device by mistake. Is there any way I can restore the iphone to my icloud/ apple Id again? No manual backup on laptop
The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

How would i use 'find my iphone' to locate my husband's ipad?
My husband and i would like to be able to find each other's device, (iphone 4 and ipad) by using 'find my iphone'. We frequently lose each other.
How would we set that up?

After doing so, you can track devices by signing in with the iCloud ID that the device you are trying to track is using, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f2442. You can do this from a computer by going to icloud.com, or from your iOS device by downloading the free Find My iPhone app from the App store.

We have two iphones and only one ipad - no mac. We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones. How do we get the ipad to accept two iphone accounts? icloud is enabled on all three devices.
Also, be aware of the following:
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. Something as small as an iPod/iPhone should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries. -
How do I get back my iPod if I can't use find my iphone and no internet on it?
I recently lost my iPod and I went back to go find it and it was gone, I filed a report on it being lost then stolen. The thing is I cant use Find my iPhone because I didn't have it on at the time. Also I reset my iPod because there was to much stuff on it. I never connected it to the wifi after i reset it. Please help.
I do have my serial number!You did all you could. The SN will only help identify the iPod as yours IF it is recovered. Make sure you change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.

How am I supposed to use Find My iPhone?
I do not understand how you are supposed to use Find My iPhone, FROM my iPhone.. it doesn't make sense to me.
Shouldn't there be a Find My iPhone app on the Macbook?
Also I have not recieved a verification email for my iCloud Apple ID setup.
It keeps telling me to "Check Email" yet nothing is there...
If you could help me with anything, that would be great.

or the find my iphone.app to search for your device from your second device/ a friends device.
If a mac runs 10.7.2 it will also be searchable if "find my Mac" is activated in icloud preference pane.
Again, you use any Internet-Cafe or a second PC/Mac to seach your lost devices or Macs. -
I have remote locked my mac using find my iPhone app via my iPad - I am unable to enter the unlock code as the mac keyboard won't pair with the mac - I guess that will teach me for playing...any ideas?
Thought so - ace - find my phone really needs an unlock function. - another £40...

my iphone has been lost in my house and i need to find a way to track it and its offline. it wont connect to the internet so there isnt a way to use find my iphone. i just want to play a sound on it. is there any way i can get a app that connects my ipod from a laptop or a different way to find it.
If your phone is offline, the ONLY way to find it is to look for it the old fashioned way. Your phone CANNOT be located electronically if it's offline.

I was using my ipod at night then all of a sudden on the sceen it said ipod has been locked then it said my phone number and it said call me or the police will. I knew my brother locked it from the computer using " find my iphone" it was on lost mode like if it was lost/stolen. The problem was he knew my apple id and password. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -
I like the new iOS 7 for iphone... But i think it's not a good idea to allow switch the iphone on flight mode when it is locked.. What happens if your iphone is stolen or lost? You couldn't be able to locate it using find my iphone... Can i remove this from the bottom menu?
And have your phone set to require a passcode before it can be accessed.

I misplaced my iPhone and used Find My iPhone to locate it. The map showed my home and the apparent location of the iPhone which was five miles south of my home in a heavily wooded area. It turns out that was an incorrect location as I eventually found my iPhone in my office three miles in the other direction. Can anyone provide m with an explanation for the discrepancy and inaccuracy?

I Lost my phone at the office building with more than 10different company and thousands of employees. since no one returned the phone and the device was already turned off i tried logging in and use find my iphone to send a message. But after days since no one is returning it i tried putting passcode on lock mode... And who would have thought that after a week someone will call me and told me that she will return the phone. But unfortunately i forgot the lock code so i cant use it. I dont want to restore it since my photos and videos are not sync to my itunes. if only theres a way that it would only just require my apple id and not the 4 digit code
There's no way to unlock it without restoring it.

Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

i recently lost my 3rd Gen iPod and ive been using find my iPhone to send messages to it, my email then instantly tells me that it had been displayed or it suonded off however it doesn't find the iPod's current location. you guys think this app actually works? i feel like my alerts are just bouncing back at me. please help. ... AFAIC Location Services is a joke.
With both devices sitting side by side on my kitchen table, Location Services has NEVER shown the devices to be any where close to each other, and at times Location Services has been as much as a 1/4 of a mile off between the two devices.
Your iPod Touch has no GPS receiver so determining its location relies upon wireless routers whose location is known. Its "location" is actually that of a wireless router. Your iPhone 4 can use GPS, cellular triangulation, and Wi-Fi. One would think GPS would be most accurate but urban areas have a greater density of cells and GPS signals are easily obstructed so cellular triangulation is often more accurate.
Therefore the two devices' locations can be expected to be different. Differences of a quarter mile are easily explained if you understand how location services works: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1975

Location Services is not a "joke"; its intended use is for basic navigation and for such applications as determining where the nearest restaurant is. It cannot tell you that your iPod is under the couch cushions and that your iPhone is in the car.
