Using Flash 8 swfs in Captivate

Does anyone know of a backdoor method of making flash 8 swfs
work when imported into Captivate? We are then publishing the
Captivate movies and integrating them in a Flash 8 interface.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
J

Hi J and welcome to our community
There is no way (back door or otherwise) that I'm aware of to
do this. Unless, of course, you mean to use Flash 8 and export the
Flash in a version 6 format.
Hopefully we will see Flash 8 files working just dandy in
Captivate version 2.

  • Problems in using Flash swf in captivate 5

    Hi,
    I am using captivate 5 and in that for a project I created some flash animation in flash cs4 and using the swf output file in captivate.
    So the problem is this:
    When I publish the project and try playing the project(exe/html output), those flash swf animations are not playing properly or not at all playing.
    There are around 40-50 slides in captivate and around 90% of those files contain flash swf animation. Some of the animations are playing and some are not.
    In flash cs4 the action script version is 3 and also I tried publishing the project in both flash player 9 and 10 but still some animations are not playing. Its random.
    Any fix for that? Its urgent.
    Thanks in advance.

    There's a known issue with the way Captivate 5 loads SWFs.  If the animation is not all on the main timeline level of the SWF, but the animation has been placed inside a symbol, Captivate triggers the animations to play when the SWF is loaded right at the beginning of the movie instead of making them play only on the slide where the SWF should play.  This means that by the time your movie gets to the slide in question, the animation has already finished playing, and it looks to you like it won't play, when in fact it already HAS played.
    This issue only affects SWFs with animation inside symbols, which is unfortunately the way most Flash animation designers are taught to create them.  It can be fixed via some AS3 code inside the SWF, but this is only possible if you have access to the FLA files used to create the SWF, and you know how to use Flash.

    Glad you got it all working! Good job!
    Just a note (for yourself and anyone else using Flash) on the rumor that all Flash files must be in the root folder... simply not true. In my opinion, as with any other type of files on your site, I'd suggest putting them in organized folders.... all the images in one folder... then subfolder for diff categories of images, flv video files in another folder, maybe keep all the .swf files in another, the xml data files in another, etc. Flash asset files can be just as organized as any other type of files.
    From an old article.... for review:
    Pathing issues
    Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
    You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
    Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
    In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
    So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • Flash animations in Captivate look choppy

    I am using Flash animations in Captivate 3. The animations
    are published to Flash Player 6 before being embedded in Captivate.
    The Captivate project is in turn published to Flash Player 9.
    The animations look good in the published Captivate SWF when
    I run the SWF directly in Flash Player. However, if I run the SWF
    in a browser (I tried both IE & Firefox, having Flash Player
    9.0.45.0), the animations look very choppy and slow. What could be
    the reason?
    Regards,
    Mohsin

    Kevin & Rick,
    Thanks for your responses. I diagnosed the problem. It did
    not have anything to do with frame rates.
    What was actually happening is that my Captivate SWF was
    1024x768 originally, but when opening it in an HTML, I was NOT
    loading it at 100% of its size. Instead, I was loading it at
    880x660 in the OBJECT tag of my HTML, which was causing the issue.
    Even when I would open the SWF directly using IE, IE would resize
    the content in order to display it completely, thereby causing the
    animations playing within to rescale. This, somehow, made them look
    choppy.
    Cheers!

  • Bringing Flash .swf files into Captivate

    Greetings,
    I use Captivate 2.0. I have been trying to bring a Flash .swf
    file into Captivate with very little success. The flash file is
    clickable (so that users can review case study information as they
    complete Try It simulations). When I bring the Flash .swf file into
    Captivate, it works. However, correction (or failure messages)
    display every time the user clicks the Flash .swf file. Is there
    anything that I can do within Captivate to stop this issue?
    Ideally, I would like the Flash .swf to run on top of the Captivate
    file so that users can view the case study details without having
    to see the failure messages.
    Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I
    hope it makes sense to you.

    Hi Zabcde (or PMW or P?)
    Can I just understand (sorry for being thick) your situation.
    You're trying to get a flash movie into a captivate session that
    the user can work on, see, interact with whilst they're also going
    through a Captivate simulation (try it)? Does that mean that slides
    are advancing for the simulation whilst you're watching the flash
    movie? Or are they watching the Flash movie as a kind of help to
    then go and do the Try It session?
    If it's the first, then I would suggest calling the Flash swf
    and the Captivate swf as seperate instances in flash (using
    loadmovienum or something). If it's the second, you should be able
    to remove the failure captions from that slide so they don't bug
    you.
    Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick though
    Cheers

  • Will Captivate 4 fix my FMR issues, using Flash 10

    Hi,
    I currently have Captivate 3 and we recently upgraded to Flash 10. I work in a large organization so I cannot control the Flash version, downgrading to 9 is not an option.
    I need to do minor drag and drops of folders (not the window itself, cuase I found a method of doing this using only the keyboard).  But when I hit End to end my recording, captivate freezes.
    My question is will Captivate 4 enable me to do these basic drag and drops, using Flash 10?
    (I saw the link about the FMR editor, but this is not an option for us)
    Thanks :-)

    Hi Jacksig,
    The answer is YES. Adobe captivate will allow you to do your drag and drops with Flash Player 10. Infact that is the least Adobe Captivate could for you...

  • Using a swf generated by Flex from a Flash component

    I know you can include and control a swf generated by Flash
    within a Flex component. But can you do the inverse? Can you use a
    swf generated by Flex within a Flash project/component?
    We plan to develop a "core" module that would be used in a
    lot of other Flash and Flex components we'll develop in the future.
    This core would be a package of classes that could be easily
    re-used by the components. There would be nothing visual in it,
    only standard classes.
    Even if this core would not contain any visual components, we
    would like to develop it using Flex since we prefere Flex Builder
    to the Flash editor to code and debug.
    But I'm not sure if:
    1) A core module like this, developped in Flex, could be used
    by our Flash components or only by other Flex components?
    2) If we use Flex to generated this core, will the resulting
    .swf be bigger than if we would have used Flash to develop it?
    Since there will be no Flex visual components in it, maybe it will
    be as small? Is there a compiler parameter to tell Flex to only
    include the minimum things possible in the generated .swf?
    Any help or link about this would be really appreciated!
    Thanks you in advance!
    P.S. I apologize to those aware that this message was also
    posted on another Flex related forum, but I received no reply on
    it!

    try this. for me it has worked.
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var timer:Timer;
    var myclip:MovieClip;
    //load the Flex Component
    loader.load(new URLRequest("IS.swf"));
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,
    loaderDone);
    addChild(loader);
    function loaderDone(e:Event) {
    timer = new Timer(100);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, handleTimer)
    timer.start();
    function handleTimer(event:TimerEvent):void {
    //cast the loader.content into MovieClip to access
    currentFrame.
    myclip = loader.content as MovieClip;
    if (myclip.currentFrame == 2)
    however, i need to access properties of IS.mxml..
    any data member would work..
    or if i could dispatch an event in IS.mxml and catch it in
    flash through IS.swf, it would work.
    Pls somebody suggest.

  • Using Flash Learning Interactions in Captivate

    Hi there,
    I am developing a short practice quiz in Captivate, but for
    one of the questions I want to use a Flash CS3 learning interaction
    (the "Hot Spots" one). I get the Flash file built, import it into
    Cpativate, and everything works.
    Now for the big question - how do I get Captivate to track
    the successful/unsuccessful action from this question in a quiz? I
    want to present users with a results page at the end of the
    practice quiz, but since this question is not built with a
    Captivate question slide (like m/c, t/f, etc.), how can I track the
    result and include it on the results slide at the end?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Cheers,

  • .swf to .flv  using Flash 8 Video Encoder

    I have brought a .swf file in to Flash 8 Video Encoder to
    convert to a .flv file, after Queue is completed the .flv file
    doubles in size. I tried changing the "key frame placement" and
    "Date rate" to bring the file down but the .flv file doesn't go
    down that much. So what am I missing? I want a .swf 8,166 KB to be
    a .flv about half that size, is this possible? If so, am I using
    the wrong program?
    vicky

    well that's the thing - the metadata never traces out if the
    video was encoded with flash video encoder, but that code would
    work fine with video encoded with sorenson squeeze.
    think I have worked it out now though: in order to pause the
    video at start I am calling NetStream.seek(0) when I receive
    "NetStream.play.start".
    For some reason when I do this with flvs encoded using flash
    video encoder, it stops the onMetaData event from firing - but
    works fine with other flvs! weird... shall have to find another way
    of pausing the video at the start I guess.
    thanks for the reply though

  • Track completion of embedded swf within captivate project

    I have a swf created within captivate 4 which is a traiining simulation.  Now I want to embed this simulation on a screen within a new host captivate project and enable the next progress button only when the embedded training simulation is done. What is a good way to do this?
    While trying different options, a problem I am running into is the embedded training simulation does not close when all the interactivity is done even if the swf publish options are set to close upon completion.  It wants to run for a set time. Any ideas are much appreciated.

    Hi Gaspar,
    Are you using a preloader for the project? If so, the default
    one in Captivate waits for 60% of the project to load before
    playing. Perhaps try to add the preloader if you aren't using one,
    or remove it if you are to see if that makes a difference. In
    Captivate 3, you can change this option in Preferences -->
    Project --> Start and End --> Loading Screen.
    Good luck,
    David
    Edit: I just tried this too and got the same results when
    publishing with all versions of Flash - I was a little surprised to
    see it even with Flash 7 exports, because Captivate has let me
    embed .swf animations into a single .swf project file using Flash
    7. I'm guessing that whatever Flash "engine" Captivate uses to
    create its own FMV .swfs must be Flash 8 or 9. That would be
    something that would be nice to adjust - especially because of the
    lack of the ability to merge .swf files into one file. I guess I'll
    send a feature request again...

  • Swf within Captivate

    Hi,
    I've got an interactive flash swf file that brings in another swf file (via loadMovie).  I would like to bring this into Captivate.  I have tried a couple of ways;
    1)  I dragged it into Captivate - This shows the first flash file but not the one it loads in.
    2)  I then tried creating a new widget, loading the swf into this and then importing into Captivate, but am left with a blank screen.
    Is there another way I can do this or somehow fix it?
    Thanks, Andy

    Markus,
    I use "this." in the Actionscript, but I don't think that's the problem. In the attached file you'll see my problem.

  • Importing Flash swf

    Hello,
    I'm as new as it comes to Captivate. From what I've researched and seen, Captivate looks like an interactive Powerpoint that captures scores, answers, and responses,etc.
    Right now, I'm looking for an authoring program to help me use some of those abilities -- but also host the main interactivity that I've built into a flash swf.
    Before I go off and start programming, is it possible to embed a fully interactive .swf into Captivate -- or is this the wrong use and I should be attempting to rebuild that in Captivate? The program I'm going to build in Flash includes a time slider with simultaneous videos and animation.
    Are time sliders possible in Captivate? (A scrubbing bar back and forth)
    Thanks for your time.
    Kristin

    Everything you speak of is possible in Captivate, and it certainly does allow you to import SWFs created in AS3.
    Whether or not your program will work well with Captivate depends a lot on your programming abilities and how well you understand the Captivate architecture so that your app integrates well with it.
    It might be wise to consider building your app as a Captivate widget.

  • My Flash Swf file dont load

    Ok do i made a Flash Swf, when i view in on adobe flash it works fine, but i need to upload it so i can use it on my site problem is when i do nothing loads, images, text. Its just a black box where the content should be but it just says Loading.

    Was there an answer to this issue ever? I have this problem in Captivate after importing an swf. The swf shows up fine in editing mode on the slide... but when I preview or publish (even locally), it stops playing prematurely and jumps to the next slide.
    No content management system is involved in my case, and this is local, not online.
    Please help!!!

  • Issues Playing SWFs in Captivate 5.5

    Hi all,
    I'm hoping you can help me out with this problem.  I am trying to insert about 10 .swf videos into my Captivate 5.5 project and they will not play in Preview or in a browser. I added them by going to Insert > Animation and the animation outline shows on the screen.  The linkage shows the clip located locally on my desktop and the source points to the .fla file, which is also local.  Each .swf was created by me and is done using AS3.  I do have the files in .flv but am trying to avoid using them due to receiving a loading screen for about a half second before autoplaying each video.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  There is nothing on the slides besides the .swf file.  The .swf files play without any issue from my desktop using Flash Player 10.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Welcome to our community
    Sorry but we need more information. Your post is similar to walking into a garage and saying your car won't go. It leaves too much to the imagination.
    Does it start? Does it go into gear? Does it sputter and die when you press the accelerator pedal? Are the brakes locked up?
    So you told us you inserted an FLV and it doesn't play. Where are you expecting to see it play?
    Did you expect to see the FLV begin playing immediately upon inserting it on the slide? Like you would if you opened a YouTube page on the web? If so, that doesnt' happen. You just inserted a placeholder that will present the video after you publish your movie.
    Did you preview and you aren't seeing the video play during the preview? If so, how exactly did you preview? There are many ways. Perhaps the manner in which you are previewing doesn't allow the video.
    Did you publish and you aren't seeing the video after you publish? If so, where are you running the file from? Local PC or did you copy it to a web server?
    As you can hopefully see, there aren't any pat answers. We need lots more information.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Problem with inporting Flash buttons into Captivate

    Hello
    I have tried looking around for the fix to this issue, I think I have seen the problem sorted, but not how they have done it.
    The problem is that i have made an interface using flash, and inported the SWF into Captivate, this is just a simple pop up menu with buttons and hyperlinks. The issue that I have come accross is that when I come to close the pop up (inside the flash swf) if there is a captivate button behind it it will click this as well. I was wondering if there was a line of AS3 coding that I can add so that when the pop up is loaded it will disbale all the captivate buttons, mouse interactions etc.
    Not sure if this should be here or in the flash forum, but as its a captivate/flash issue ive posted it here.
    Thanks in advanced for any replies
