Using Flash Technology In The Portal

I'm looking for suggestions/information on the best practice for getting Flash to operate inside the Aqualogic 6.1 portal.
My company's Marketing department has an individual who insists on creating their content in Flash; but we don't really have any way to integrate it into the portal.
I tried creating a publisher presentation template that opens the published SWF file, and this seems to work; but only half way. The SWF file references another SWF file, and that content doesn't display even though it's published with the main SWF file. I also can't figure out how to search for published content; it doesn't seem to appear even after the search job has refreshed.
I'm considering creating another IIS webspace to host web content that references images and files to display properly; but then I have the problem that I cannot embed the content and cannot search for it in the portal.
I'm a bit lost on what the proper solution is. All help is appreciated.

Would love to hear if you found a solution. I have been trying to put flash (we have a groups that insists as well) into 5.0.4 that needs to talk to backend data. Plumtree/BEA support has told me this can't be done due to gateway. An outside firm has told the other department that absolutely yes it can be done, but they did not give specifics (they are a consulting firm, so they will probably want a contract). I thought about putting my xml data and other resources on the imageserver, but have not tried yet.

Yes and no. Some bloat as you call it is necessary to support all browsers. That said, this on-line tool takes your Flash code and converts it to valid XHTML Strict standards. In the process, the code is minimized a bit. Be sure to test in an XHTML Strict doc type page.

Is it possible to use flash player on the iphone 4S?

I tried to open a greeting card in my hotmail account and was told that the IOS doesn't allow the flashplayer pluging. Is there any way to view FP media on the IPhone 4s?

Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.

Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.

Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

How To use APEX logout inside the Portal

I am not using APEX at the moment, but I would like to use it. At the moment the only thing I want out of APEX is to give me the ability to log out (users) completely from the portal ( all sessions killed, cleared cookies etc, such that user after logging out of portal even if he tries to copy and paste URL ( of the portal page) can not log back in to the portal (of course on the same browser), rather gets redirected to SSO login page, where once again he is challenged for his credentials.
Based on the little knowledge that I have about APEX. Can I achieve this in the portal. I have developed current portal using Portal Builder (IDE), using OID(LDAP) method of accomplishing SSO. I understand APEX is also another
web based IDE, uses it's own way of implementing SSO. Will there be any difference between portal users and APEX users?
My questions are:
1. Do I have to rewrite the portal page for users, if I use APEX?
2. If I leave my portal page the way it is, How can I accomplish users logging out?
3. Does the login also have to be done by APEX, if I choose to do logout by APEX?
4. How can I integrate APEX with existing portal page? I am not writing any APEX web applications. Just wanna use it for logging out.

Has anyone used VNC successfully with the portal?

When I try to connect to vnc through the portal (eg http://server:5803), I can view the correct login page, but get the error "java.net.ConnectException. Connection refused", yet it works when NOT through the portal. Anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Never tried VNC through the rewriter and http, but am not surprised at all that it won't work.
We have created a VNC netlet that works nicely.

Is Extension Builder 2.1 using Flash compatible with Photoshop CC also in the future? (There are speculations, that it will be switched off, what will destroy my investment in that code)

I have codes a lot of stuff using Extension Builder 2.1 using Flash technology to be compatible with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC.
There are speculations, that the support for this would be removed in Photoshop CC. This would destroy my investment in this code and my customers would not be able to use my products anymore, when they are using Photoshop CC.
Is there any workaround planed for customers using Photoshop CC to be able to run extension build with Extension Builder 2.1 and Flashbuilder 2.6 also in the future?

I have been using flash player to watch foxnews and it has recently started reseting the volume to 0

I have been watching fox news .com using flash player and the web site is set for auto play. As it advances to the next news story the volume keeps being reset to zero at the start of each segment. This is very annoying since I must turn the volume up on the adobe control panel before I can hear the segment. Is this intentional or can it be fixed?

Okay, That's NOT in Flash Player but in the web page. It's read and displayed by Flash Player, but the code for it is embedded in the page as part of the video, the "minimum volume setting" could be a "cached" setting in your browser. Try clearing your cache and history, but there ISN'T any setting in your Flash Player plugin that can change or set volume for websites.

Konqueror browser for Linux has an useful CPU limitation feature for websites using Flash content. Can you add such a feature in Firefox?

I have recently found that Konqueror browser for Linux can help user to limit cpu usage while visiting a website using flash technology by changing settings in the Flash section and adjusting the slider from VERY HIGH settings to HIGH and MEDIUM and so on. It actually works, and it does not have a direct impact on the general performance for flash player but it may generate some conflicts if other extensions such as add-blocker or click-to-flash are enabled also.
Maybe you can add a similar setting in Firefox in the browser option section or just as an useful addon or extension.

Sorry for being late with my reply. I've just tested that addon that you mentioned in your post ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../system-monitor/ ) , it looks like a system monitor and nothing more than that.
As for the memory tip ( about:memory ) I agree that it can be extremely useful for users that have less than 1 gb memory installed on their system. I know very little about computers but I can tell your tip for optimizing memory usage in firefox has merits.
Me, I have another problem with cpu overload in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and most of the browsers with flash support enabled. Each and every time time I visit a page that features all sort of adds and gadgets based on flash technology, and each time I try to watch a video online my cpu goes all the way up to 100% and stays there until i finally decide to close the browser.
I am running winxp and also linux on a Dell Optiplex GX260 machine with 2000 MHz cpu, 1024 Mib ram and 128 Mib video card, it is not the best computer in the world but still 2000 MHz should be enough for a limited and uneventful web experience.
It is not as much an issue with the web browser, any browser, the whole problem is caused by funny people claiming to be deeply involved with web development, and promoting flash technology for ages instead of choosing other alternatives, more user friendly. All I am saying is that flash ruined the entire web experience making people to believe that they actually need dual-core cpu and coreduo and deepfreeze cpu and so on which is only partially true.
I always get better results for cpu usage when watching online videos that use media player as default player and not flash player, and my cpu stays below 70% usage which is not much but still it is not 100% usage.
Konqueror offered me a nice surprise, and I was able to limit cpu usage once I moved that slider from Very High setttings for flash player to Medium settings. I got something between 80-90% cpu usage as a result, and I was very pleased to finally see a working solution to my problem at least for linux if not for windows.
The only other browser that I can use for windows only, which handles both flash player and cpu usage well is Kmeleon browser which is a long forgotten project but does offer nice features once you find some plugins that it needs to make it come to life again.

How to retrieve all users in the portal with UME API

I would like to know how to retrieve all the users from a portal, which uses LDAP as a source (there are users created in the portal as well)
My code snippet is :

My problem is that with the code above, only the users created in the portal are displayed, and no LDAP users.
Does someone know how to retrieve all the users whatever is the source?

prakash's code should work.
however, mine code below doesn't user a search filter. it retrieves everyuser including users like indexadmin etc. Note:
result.next().toString();
returns a weird uniqueID used in the portal world.
getUniqueName()
gives your the usernames (sAMAccountName in Microsoft AD) people use to logon to the portal.

Flash CS6 and the old Packager for iPhone?

Hi,
I was wondering: now that it's possible to select an Air SDK version in Flash CS6, would it also be possible to use Flash CS6 with the old 'packager for iPhone' that came with Flash CS5?
I know, I know, I should get rid of that old thing, but reality is that I used packager for iPhone to create one of my first apps and now I can't update to a newer version of Air. Apple doesn't allow that, because existing users wouldn't be able to update anymore.
It would be great if CS6 can work with the old Packager for iPhone.
Does anyone know the answer to this?

OS 10.5.8 was the LAST "Universal Binary" OS that Mac released. It could be run on PPC or Intel Macs.
You can use Flash, but NOT the current version. Flash Player 10.3.183.90 is the latest version that will run with 10.5.8.
Apple ended all support for ALL PowerPC hardware and software just over four years ago, so there will be no further development of ANY apps that run with PowerPC Macs, from ANY developer.

Using flash for synchronization

Hi,
Flash does a great job at abstracting out data storage requirement across multiple browsers. But my concern is whether it provides data access synchronization. Lets say i've multiple tabs/windows loading the same swf file (loaded from the same domainA in a page from domainB). What is the behavior if they start writing onto LSO (local shared object) simultaneously. If you see, its basically multiple reader/writer problem that browsers are incapable of handling (until HTML5). Can flash really help? I understand that flash also follows single threaded model but i was just wondering if there is a semantic in actionscript or otherwise that could be of help here.

When you move your mouse the the speaker icon, a "slider" will appear to the right.

Can I use iPhone 4S outside the U.K.? Foreign sim cards work or not?

I got a sim-free iphone 4s and will travel to Russia soon, my question is can I use Russian local sim card in my phone? is that works?
The only thing I'm sure is Russian network carriers they use same technologies as the UK's, 3G(WCDMA) and 2G(EDGE). But I got several words from carphonewarehouse website, said "SIM free iPhones can only be used with a UK-network SIM card, and will not accept foreign SIM cards."
Ok, does it mean the UK version iPhones specially locked for foreign carriers? Maybe I have to take a spare phone.

iPhones purchased from Apple Retail stores and Apple.com/uk are unlocked and can be used with any Apple approved carrier WW
iPhones from ALL other sources are locked to a carrier
Carphone Warehouse sell sim free iPhone4S but it will lock to the first UK carrier sim
that is placed in the iPhone and then becomes locked to that carrier
They cannot therefore be used with any other carrier unless the UK carrier authorises unlocking
Which UK carrier are you using
AND UK does not support CDMA all UK phones are GSM
