Using Folders in Logic 8

I'm newly switched to Logic from Cubase. Question on using folders properly!
If I drag say 6 guitar tracks from the bin in to the arrange page. Then select all those new regions/tracks and 'pack' them in to a folder. I'm left with a bunch of newly created empty tracks in the arrange page, that I then have to delete. Am I doing this right? I also have to rename all the channel strips in the 'all' mixer page, otherwise they are all just named 'audio<x>'.
The track names in the folder all match the region names which is what you'd want. (When you double click the folder, to navigate in to it).
This could simply be my lack of interpreting what's in the manul - or is it a bit clunky yet??

Welcome to the forum and to the sometimes illogical world of Logic.
Yup. That's pretty much the way things are. You're left with unused tracks. The reasoning goes something like this. You may have several regions on a track but only want to pack some of them. You'd do this, for example, if you have a bunch of regions that you then wanted to loop. You can loop folders but you can't loop separate regions that are consecutive.
So, you pack some regions but you want to leave the tracks behind because they have other regions in them. Logic's answer? Never delete the tracks, regardless of whether you've emptied them or not. I can see a lot of people applauding this approach. At least Logic doesn't get rid of things that you're about to use. If you don't want them, just delete them.

In the DTP select the file location as application server and give the logical file path. The actual file and logical path can be created using transaction "FILE" and "AL11".
Rest of the process is same as that of extraction from local file.

In detail, the scenario is like I have created an Open Hub. Its working fine. Now I am planning to execute this open hub using process chain and for that I have to define the file output on application server along with logical file name (using tcode FILE). The logical file name contains two variables (defined in FILE) i.e. z_dept and z_fiscperiod.
Filter value in DTP ( I will read these values from Ztable using routine )
Dept = R&D
Fisc period = 004/2009
Variables defined in tcode FILE:
z_dept for Dept
z_fiscperiod for Fiscal Period
Logical file name : <z_dept>_<z_fiscperiod>.csv
Now the challenge is to populate filter values in these two variables so that the filter value can be used for naming the output file.
My last option is to read/update SAP standard table used for storing variable values (i.e. PARAMVALUE)
Please let me know if you can help me in this issue OR is there any standard method/FM to populate value in these variables

Hi Ujjawal,
Use the Tab-order property of IR object.
In design mode, select the any command button, right click and select the property. you will find the window for "Tab-Order". It lists all the objects available in that dashboard. Here you can arrange the tab order..

Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

I'd like to know if it's possible to use spaces together with Logic. I tried to grab my mixer and drag it to another space but that didn't work.
If it's not possible at all I would recommend this as a new feature in a Snow Leopard update.

You can use Spaces with Logic,either drag the Mixer tab out or open a Mixer window in Logic Pro>Window>Mixer or press ⌘ +2 ,activate spaces and drag the Mixer window where you like.

Upgrade 10.2.0.4 RAC to 11.2.0.2 RAC using a transient logical standby?

Has anyone performed a successful upgrade from 10.2.0.4 RAC to 11.2.0.2 RAC using a transient logical standby? I found one reference to this white paper "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10gr2-transrollupg-168590.pdf" that describes steps to us transient logical standby to upgrade to 11.1.0.6 but I wasn't sure if it also works for upgrades to 11.2.0.2.

I try to make some goods loops with Logic pro 9, but for live events it's very bad. In mainstage there is a good Loopback, but I need to make some mixage in the same time, and I prefer to use Logic. Is there a solution to use Loopback in Logic Pro 9?

If it includes the serial # then there shouldn't be any problem. Just watch out to receive the whole Logic Studio v9 package and not only an update package.

Any way to have a list of "most often used folders"?

is there any way to define a list of folders most frequently accessed (by opening them or saving files to them) in the last X days? I'd like to have such a list in my dock, or on the left panel of Finder windows that open up (e.g., for file saving). Is there any way to do that? I work on stuff that's divided into a pretty deep folder structure and instead of a static Favorites list (which would get too unwieldy), I'd like to have it dynamically figure out for me which are the most commonly-used folders for the recent week or whatever. How to Use Vienna In Logic

ok, so I bought vienna special edition. I used it in logic by creating several vienna instrument instances. They cluttered up the screen and made work sloppy, so my solution was vienna ensemble. Instead of opening many vienna ensemble instances I just created a multi timbral track and was able to have many vienna instruments loaded in one vienna ensemble instance. The only problem is that the track is multi timbral so all my midi editing in one track does the same for all of them. Is there a way to have a multi timbral track but split the tracks so editing will only change the track I'm editing?

The MI can be created in any layer. I created a new layer just for these kind of MIs.
I've always been confused by the "Cable and channel Port is Set" dialog. It has to be "Remove", I think.
"What selection do you make in the TI to convert CC7 to CC11?" -- Do you mean in the TO "Transformer Object"? It's hard to explain. You really need to read the manual on the transformer. But basically, the top line is stuff you want to process and the bottom line is what you want to do it. So top line is status: controller, byte 1: 7. and bottom line is fix byte 1 to 11. Or something. I'm doing this from memory.
To cable an object in one layer to an object in another layer: hold down the Option key while click and holding on the cable arrow. This will produce a list of all objects in the session, categorized by layer.
"What “plug-in” do you assign to respond to CC 11 for volume?" -- In the case of VSL SE Multi Ensemble, I guess you make the changes on an instrument by instrument basis inside of Ensemble? But I don't remember having to do this, so maybe it's set to 11 already.
Or in Spectrasonics Multis you do it in the Mixer with their MIDI template or something. Maybe they default to 11 too.
I haven't had any issues with this setup. Yet. Knock wood. All MIDI data except CC7 passes unmolested through the Transformer Object.
One final tip. In the arrange window there is a menu item: "Same Instrument with next MIDI channel". Assign a key command to this (or is there one already?). Then after you assign the first channel of the MI to a track in Arrange, you can hit this key command as many times as necessary.

Using macbook pro + logic for live - what to consider

so i just received the macbook pro which I will use live with logic for playing back bounced audio tracks, audio instruments and live inputs + effects.
I want to avoid (if possible) an additional external drive in order to keep the setup simple.
I`m thinking of partitioning the internal drive into two parts and use one partition for the audio material.
Or is it maybe better to keep the whole drive as one partition (80GB)?
Any further suggestions? e.g. Which os do you think is more stable 4.6. or 4.7?

Hi. I use my MBP live for Ivory Grand piano sounds and occasional backing tracks with live piano. I suggest you set it all up and suck and see. You will quickly get an idea of what will and won't work. Set up a scenario where it is doing a fair bit more work than you anticipate it doing live, and then you will be confident of it doing what you want it to do.
Partioning a hard drive just means that the same single hard drive is trying to split it's attention to two places at once, and so will probably give worse performance. It is no real big deal to carry a small firewire drive these days. By the time you have plugged in MIDI interfaces and cable, an extra firewire cable will not make much difference. Samples stream much faster from an external drive. Audio should play back just fine from the internal hard drive.
I am using 10.4.7 and I don't seem to be having any problems so far, touch wood.

did you run the au validation programm? maybe if the validation crashed or didnt work you should update battery with the au hotfixes. battery 1 and 2 working for me since first installation.
if the registration of battery or other plug-ins expired they will also crash in the au manager.

Need advise on dual systems to use fcp and logic

i just got a imac 27" i7, 12Gb ram, 1TB HD and 1GB vRam.
i was using a imac 20" Core 2 duo 2.33Ghz, 1TB HD for video,
On this machine i ran FCP studio, FCP refuses to boot on the same machine with some of my 3rd party plugs in Logic.
So i then went to the macbook pro17 2006 2.33 GHZ with a 500GB HD for audio.
On this machine i ran pro tools, logic etc
now i wonder what the best solution is with the imac, like if i can somehow install one of these as a virtual machine or dual booth partition, i would rather run them at the same time since i switch between often., if the imac is fast enough to i hope., anyone have ideas? will vnware or parralel work out well?
any advise appreciated, seriously

It is not advisable to relocate the sounds that came with LP to an external drive. LP uses a certain hierarchy in the order it looks for sounds. LP "expects" certain sounds to reside in a certain place.
You should move all your Akai, EMU and other sounds that are visible to you, to your external drive. Use aliases in the original folders on your internal HD. You can also do this with your user-created Apple Loops.
Try to keep around 20% of your internal HD space free.
After you moved your files, use Project Manager to scan all your drives and organize your files and directories.
Under LP > Preferences > Global > Project Manager, check "Load Project Manager database on program launch" and select "Search files using: Project Manager database", or "Search files using: Project Manager database and Search Engine".
Your EXS24 files will load like a charm.
