Using Font Folio in InDesign to export in PDF to app store

Our customer is creating applications using In Design.    These applications are exported into PDF format for viewing on mobile devices.    Is there any additional licensing needed from Adobe in this scenario?
Also, in the future (not now) if the customer would like to look into perhaps fonts to be embedded in a app the customer is creating, what licensing would be needed?
Thanks in advance!

For export of PDF from InDesign (or saving PDF from Illustrator or Photoshop), no additional license is required for embedding fonts sourced from Adobe (including all the fonts in the Font Folio and any bundled with Adobe applications).
This is not true for use in applications where text is being generated on-the-fly and/or can be entered by the user. Others will comment on those licensing requirements.

Do I need creative Cloud to use Font Folio or does it work with CS6?

The Adobe Font Folio has absolutely nothing to do with the Adobe Creative Cloud offering. I think you are thinking about TypeKit which is included with the Adobe Creative cloud, integrates with the Creative Cloud applications, but also allows use of the fonts therein with other applications.
The Adobe Font Folio is a disk with pretty much the entire Adobe Type Library. You install any number of fonts on the disk onto your system and they act just like any other fonts with any applications, including the CS6 applications.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If you change your Apple ID you will need to sign in with the new information or password the next time you use an Apple service or feature that uses Apple ID. If you have multiple devices that use features and services that require an Apple ID, you will need to sign in again on each device.

If you plan on buying anything from the App Store, you need to register a credit card with your Apple ID.
This has nothing to do with your iPhone.

    Hello,
There are some Microsoft product like Windows Phone 7 Connector on the Mac App Store but for the moment Office is not there.
In an interview last year Microsoft’s Amanda Lefebvre told Mobilized : “It’s something we are looking at”.

If you have applications like iWork or the free OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) you will be able to read files created by Microsoft Office.

  • Font Folio on InDesign

I have had Adobe CS6 for 2 years now. I use indd. pretty rugularly, so I just downloaded Font Folio 11.1 to have a better array of fonts. Is it at all possible to load the fonts from Font Folio directly to indd? If so, what is the most correct and best way to do so? Thanks.

You can either install the font folio which would load the fonts in the system hence making it accessible to all applications including InDesign. Or In case you wish to just have it available to InDesign then there is a way, you can locate the "fonts" folder InDesign installation directory, i.e. on windows it should be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6 or C:\Program Files \Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6 depending weather your system is 64 bit or 32 bit. On Mac it should be under Applications/InDesign/Fonts
Any font placed in the above directory will only be available to InDesign, Specifically to the version of InDesign that you copied the fonts over too.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Why does an InDesign document exported to PDF using data merge result in very different sized PDFs?

I've got a small sheet that I update on occasion and use data-merge to add people's names to the sheet. It's very much like an invitation where every invite has a different name on it. I use the data merge feature to select a list of names and then they get inserted into the document. Then I use the Export to PDF command in the data merge window to create a pdf that has all of the invitations in one big file. They are four-up per page on letter sized paper. Sometimes I print 2000 of them and the resulting PDF is about 2mb, sometimes I print 1000 of them and it's 20mb. Document, settings, method of issueing the commands to output the files are all the same. The only difference is the list of names and those are all almost identical in length. Anyone know what could be happening?
One clue is that it takes about a minute to run when the result is going to be a small file and about 5 or more minutes when the result is going to be a large file.
My guess is that sometimes it includes a copy of the images once per page, and sometimes it only includes them once per document, but I'd love to know why and how to control that. Thanks.

And you verified that the links panel shows everything as up-to-date?
The only other things I can suggest at the moment are the standard two trouble shooting steps: Remove minor corruption by exporting and Replace Your Preferences

  • InDesign documents, exported to .pdfs then printed on PC and Mac laser printers - what are best settings?

Our in-house creative department produces a lot of materials that are no longer going to our commercial printer.
Projects are created in Adobe InDesign, exported as .pdfs and stored on a site, where marketing partners can then download the .pdfs and print.
Usually from laser printers, usually pcs.
I would appreciate any advice on choosing settings for the .pdf (export) to help manage color etc.
    thank you

If you are printing to laser printers by people that are not knowledgeable about color settings and device capabilities. I would not use Color Management. I would stick to something simple like Press Quality so that all the fonts used in your document will be embedded into the pdf so that you do not have to worry if the person printing the file has the fonts used in creating the documents.

  • Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

    Hi there,
I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Many thanks in advance!
    Weronika

It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

  • Indesign links exported to PDF

    Hey,
I am using the latest version of indesign as on 2014. I am confused about how linked images work with exporting a PDF. When I export a pdf without all the links being embedded, do those links still show up in the PDF for someone opening it on another computer? Or do all links need to be embedded to appear in an exported PDF? Thanks so much, any opinions are appreciated.

Links have not to be embedded when you export the file to PDF. If the links are OK in the InDesign file (not missing or modified), the exported PDF will be absolutely fine and viewable on any computer.

  • InDesign CS5 export to PDF created hyphens

I exported a pdf from InDesign CS5 that created hyphens in a paragraph where none had existed. What gives?
    Thanks, Sidney
Also using Acrobat Pro 9 and Windows 7 64-bit.

Ah, sorry for the exporting misunderstanding. I thought it was implied that since you can't export using a product, it's through ID. The NitroPDF is what it is exporting to and thus where I thought there could potentially be a driver disconnect within the workflow.
I'm confused. From ID you export to PDF (and get asked where to save the file). It sounds more like you are printing to PDF using Nitro PDF as a substitute for Distiller. Would you mind listing the commands you use to do that so I understand the workflow?
And I guess things have changed with reader... the X version gives you a limited amount of printing, according to the download site? Never heard of that before.... Who knew? I was always steered towards Acrobat Distiller if using any printing where an Adobe product was accessible.
What do you mean by a limited amount of printing? Distiller has no print function at all, nor any other fuction than to distill postscript into (flattened and primitive) PDF.

  • InDesign doc exported to PDF won't print

I'm experiencing issues with an exported PDF from InDesign. More specifically, when I export the InDesign doc to a PDF and try to print, I don't have any issues, nor does anyone else in my office, however some of the people that I'm sending the document to are experiencing trouble printing it. They get to 44% flattened and then the printing process slows down, and then once it reaches 50% they get a pop-up window saying that the document can't print and the whole thing stops. They can print the first page by just selecting that page, however the second page cannot be printed this way. I have re-exported the PDF several times and these folks having the issues have cleared their browser cache, re-downloaded the document, saved it to their desktop before opening, and tried renaming the document as well.
What's going on here, and what can I do or tell them to do to fix this?
Also, updating their Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat does not solve the problem.

Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

  • Font color changes when I export to pdf

I'm using Pages 08 still, and I'm creating newsletters, should be simple enough.  But when I export to pdf, there are portions of the text that change color.  For example, I have white text and a brown background, and for some reason the text changes to black.  The Pages document still shows it as white, it only happens with the exported pdf document.  I triend deleting the brown background layer, re-exported, but the font color still changes.  Thoughts?

You have not said what version of Pages '08 you are using nor what version of OSX.
For problems like these usually simply updating both Pages '08 and the version of OSX to the latest versions, fixes the problem. That does not mean upgrading to Pages '09 or OSX 10.8.2, just the latest of those you have installed.
Failing that you need to look at what color model your text is. Stick to the cmyk that OSX's pdfs use and avoid rgb which is screen color.

  • How to embed SWF in InDesign and export as PDF?

I am trying to do something that seems very simple, but I can't get it to work. I have a simple SWF animation that I have exported from Flash CS5, and I have placed it into my Indesign CS5 document. I checked these items in the Media panel:
    Play on Page Load
    Poster: From Current Frame
When I export the PDF, I select PDF/X-4 and choose Interactive Elements: Include Appearance. I get a still image of the animation in the PDF, but it doesn't play. Why?

Hi, I have the same issue??
Even when exporting as an interactive pdf.
My problem is that I am trying to figure out how to export my swf embedded file into an interactive pdf.
I have created an interactive presentation with buttons, effects etc. After which I exported to swf so that all the effects work.
But when placing the swf file back into indesign and exporting again as an interactive pdf it doesn't work at all, all I get is a white screen. (I need a pdf for clients basically, they dont want any swf or flash files.)
Even though after placing the swf file, in the media window I ticked play on page load as well as chose a cover image for the swf file. Still just a white screen when exporting.
To repeat, I need to know how to convert my swf file into an interactive pdf.
Any pointers please would be great I have some swf presentations I need to change into pdf as soon as possible or before tomorrow to be exact before our monthly meeting with clients.
    Please help

  • InDesign CS6 Export to PDF has missing objects

When exporting to PDF, I have a 6-page document that has missing objects from the master.
Here's the document with the content removed:
    lab.cyke.net/pdf/MissingObjects.pdf
The first and last pages were constructed correctly. All pages in between are screwed up. Any ideas?

@Jongware – I have a case with InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 where master pages based on each other lead to false representation of page objects.
Not only in pdf export, but also on the actual InDesign pages. Made an IDML from it, opened that in InDesign CS4 and the error was gone.
This problem is documented at the German-Swiss forum "HilfDirSelbst" at:
    http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=496285#496285
Some screen grabs together with the IDML are attached there.
After opening the IDML from InDesign CS4 with the error gone, I exported another IDML from CS4, opened that in InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 and the error was present.
To detect the error look at pages 1* and 4 of the mentioned screen grabs.
    Uwe
//EDIT: *the screen grab of the pages palette of InDesign CS5.5 shows the error on page 4 only. The error is present outside of page 1 as well, but cannot show on the screen grab.
