Using fonts located in Fontbook in Word

I am trying to use a foreign language font which I have found in the Fontbook application but for some reason it does not come up as a font in Microsoft Word 2004. Can anyone please tell me how to make the fonts in Fontbook available for use in other applications.

What font and what language exactly are you talking
about? MS Office cannot do certain scripts and may
not recognize the fonts for them -- Devanagari is
one. Also in Unicode apps you normally switch
languages by changing keyboard layouts rather than by
changing fonts.
Hi Tom, I am trying to use Arial Hebrew. How would I then change a keyboard layout? I have used Hebrew fonts in OS9.2 previously without a problem.

I'm afraid that we're not able to retrieve this option value. The Advanced Options are actually stored as application level. Some of the options can be accessed with the Word.Application.Options property. But there're also many options that are not
exposed in the Word Object Model. As you can see in this figure, there's no property corresponding to "Use fonts that are stored on the printer":

Armenian Mshtakan font not working in MS Word

Hello,
I am able to use the Armenian Mshtakan font on a Macbook pro using OS 10.7.5 only in Text Edit. It will not work in MS Word.
Is there any way to get Mshtakan font to work in MS Word for Mac? Currently using MS Office 2011.
Microsoft's website states that it does not support custom fonts due to security issues, and yet there are some custom fonts that DO work in
Word, Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?
I've tried clearing the cache file for MS Office Preferences, tried copying the font in fontbook to the Microsoft fonts folder. None of these things have worked.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. The standard answer with all text issues simply is, that you have a "bad font" on your system and need to get rid of it.

Appleworks crashes when using "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature

In the past I was able to use the pull-down menu for "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature. Recently I found that this no longer was working, as I had trashed the preferences folder and the plist preference file for Appleworks. When I reselected the "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" item in the General preferences and selected OK, the program unexpectedly quit. This happened repeatedly, even after repairing permissions and pre-bindings, trashing the current preferences for appleworks, validating the fonts in the Font Book program, trashing other preferences, etc. It turns out that sometimes I get past the saving step for the preferences in Appleworks, but when I go to the pull-down menu for "Fonts", on the first try, I get a viewing of the fonts in their actual format, which crashes then if I am scrolling down through the fonts list. On the next try, I crash immediately when I highlight the fonts pull down menu. These symptoms are repeatable. Is it that I have too many fonts in my Font Book list? I have 148 listed fonts for my user account in Font Book. Also the font for Equation Editor named "MT Extra Plain:001.001" that I believe is associated with Appleworks is listed as having minor problems by Font Book in the name usability table and in the name table structure. If I delete the equation editor fonts this does not solve the problem. Similarly, If I de-install Appleworks, including preferences, and reinstall it, this also does not solve the problem. Are you able to help me stabilize Appleworks so I can use the "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature again? Thank you.

I looked for this font, yet it is not in any of the Fonts folders, either in the Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts location or in the user account/Library/Fonts folder which I accessed as you indicated via the "Go to Folder" menu). I do find however using EasyFind a file named Bauhaus 93.0_B8B8.ATSD in the following location: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ ATS.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Fontinfo/. Information on this file indicates that Bauhaus 93.0_B8B8.ATSD is a Unix Executable File. Is this a needed part of the system, and should I delete this?
For your further information, my version of Appleworks is 6.2.9, and per another posting by ptr66 Nov 3, 2008 (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8397234#8397234), not related directly to this posting, I also have disabled the Autosave and Recent items functions in the General preferences of Appleworks, which that posting indicated stabilize the program. These had no effect. Thank you for your input.

Sync Fonts (using Font Book) with other computers

Just purchased a new Intel iMac. Is there any method used to sync all my fonts from 3 other macs used at my studio. I would like to use Font Book and make it as easy as possible.
I use Photoshop CS2 and InDesign CS and I am sure they came with fonts loaded in both of those programs (at least I ASSUME they do...).
I want to sync the fonts so that if I bring up a photoshop file (or indesign file) that was created on one computer to another I don't get the message that I am 'missing fonts'.
Anyone know how to do this???

It's not clear what you're asking about. There no fonts button to push. However, there is a preference setting for automatic font activation. AFAIK, font book is a font management and validation tool. If the fonts are located in /Library/Fonts/, then they should be available for all users.

Font Location?

I have created a business card in Photoshop, and want to utilize the same design on my company vehicle. The sign guy doesnt have the fonts in his program. So I am trying to find the font locations on my computer, anyone know where the Photoshop fonts are located, I looked under Program Files but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also are they vectorized, can they be used as line art? Thank

Using Core Location to Get Directions

Hi,
I've been learning iPhone development for the last few weeks and now I started an app where i'd like to do the following:
- User browses through table to get to detail view, where it will show address in detail view and button to get directions to address based on GPS (core location).
I know I use core location to get user's coordinates.. however all the examples I've seen seem to use only one hard coded address to get directions. What I want to do is import the address from a SQLite db so I can have it get directions based on the selected table cell. So in other words, the items in the table contain different addresses so I want to know how to write it so it will just pull the address based on the value in the database rather than just having one hard coded address.
I can do this using a SQLite database right? Any suggestions on the approach?

I would like to know if the maps app has this ability as well. For right now my only solution is to use an alternative map such as google maps and do it that way. The maps has a long way to go and many more features need to be added. I would also like to know how to modify the route (on google maps you have the ability to drag the route where you want it after you see the suggested routes)

Since you can see it in your device list it must have Find My Mac activated, but you're going to have to wait for them to take it online in order to either locate, lock or wipe it. Until it goes online you can't do anything. http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/find-my-device/

Using service Locator pattern to dynamically access remote EJBs

Please help to guide me how I can use a service locator to retrieve a remote object (residing on another application but on same domain) .
I do not want to use Dependency Injection since I want to dynamically discover them ( there are many implementations of same interface (POJO)). Each EJB implementation implements its own remote/local interface that extends this global POJO interface.
I have two J2ee-Applications on same domain. J2EE-Application 1 has an EJB module (EJB Module 1) that intends to access an EJB Module (EJB Module 2) in J2EE-Application 2. Following observations:
1. Dependency Injection fails if (include the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1). Reason App Server complains the EJB has been deployed (Deployment fails)
2. Dependency Injection works if (exclude the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1) and include the Remote Interface in EJB Module 1(J2EE-Application 1).Positive Observation (Deployment success and DI also success)
3.Using Service Locator to retrieve the remote object if (exclude the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1) and include the Remote Interface in EJB Module 1(J2EE-Application 1). Negative and Positive Observation.
Positive Observation: Using dependency injection I can still retrieve the Remote Object
Another Positive: The Service Locator remote lookup to another Bean in same Application but different EJB Module is successful.
Negative Observation:
The Service Locator lookup to this same remote object with Successful Dependency Injection fails (An Ejb in a different application).
Can't retrieve the Remote Object with Service Locator. Message from Server:.
NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial.

If you're calling ejbs from other ejbs or servlets, the same could probably be acomplished by using dependency injection (@EJB) in a number of instance variables typed with different remote/local interfaces or even with different beanName attributes (for when more than one bean implements the same managed interface in the same app - not sure how it works outside the same jee app...) , and dinamically selecting one of them; or encapsulating those injected variables into a stateless ejb as your service locator to make them accessible from POJOs too (which, due to concurrent acess, wouldn't work for statefull ejbs references...).
Anyway, using the jndi lookup service locator pattern seems ok in this case.
What doesn't seem ok, given the nature of the error for the negative observation - jndi context initialization - is that

Can you check your code and reconfirm that you're using the same context initialization code for both the positive and negative observations ?

Font in GTK2 apps are not using font smoothing in cinnamon. GTK3 does.

Yes, unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I did put the environmental variable in .profile and relogged, the result was unfortunately the same. I've managed to fix fonts in Clementine using qtconfig-qt4 after some fiddling, but applications like Docky and Chromium still have the monospace font.
