Using footnotes as a hyperlink to supporting pdf documents

How do I create footnotes that are hyperlinked to source pdf files in combined binder?  I recently completed a 50 page report with 65 footnotes for a consulting firm.  The consulting firm took my pdf report and used the footnotes as a hyperlink to the source backup documents.  they then used the source documents with my report and combined all the files - some 2,000 pages - into one binder.  So now I want to know how to create a reeport using the footnotes as a hyperlink to the source document.
I am using a very current iMac running OS X, and using in Adobe X Pro.

The labels idea seems like the simplest to me. I know there's a way to do hyperlinks in an HTMLEditorPane (don't know if this is exactly the right classname) but it isn't simple, and I have no experience with it myself. I really like your idea of displaying the licence agreement in Notepad though, it gives the licencee a chance to modify it before agreeing to it. Other licences I have agreed to are so rigid, they don't let you change anything.

  • Why does it take 2 or 3 minutes to access a url from a hyperlink in a pdf document?

With either Adobe Reader locally or the plug-in on a website, it takes a huge amount of time for a url called by a hyperlink in a pdf document to appear in a browser window. Can anyone explain why this happens and, hopefully, how to fix it?

Yes, sorry about that. I am using Win XP Pro and Adobe Reader 11.0.08 and plug-in 11.0.07.79. The browser is Firefox 35.0.01. The problem goes away if I disable the Adobe plug-in and use the native Firefox pdf handler. The same problem also occurs in Safari for Windows.
During the delay between clicking the hyperlink and the target url's being displayed, the "not responding" error appears for the browser in question.
This happens on both my desktop machine and my portable (also running WinXP; the Adobe plug-in is 11.0.8.4)

  • Locate location of hyperlinks in a PDF document

I have a requirement, where I need to be able to location (X,Y coordinates) of hyperlinks in the PDF document. I understand I can convert PDF to text or XML but that does not provide me location of hyperlinks.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can create a script in Acrobat that loops through the links and adjusts the link's "rect" property to suit your needs. You'll want to consult the Acrobat JavaScript Reference, and look at the doc.getLinks method in particular: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.479.html
along with the Link object properties: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.802.html
Post again if you get stuck.
I don't know what control you have over this on the InDesign side of things. You may want to ask in one of the InDesign forums if you haven't already.

  • Hi. I use ExportPDF. Does Adobe support pdf documents written in Arabic Language? Does it change the documents in arabic language into microsoft word??

I have PDF documents written in Arabic. I would like to convert it into Microsoft Word. Unfortunately I am unable to do this. Please help me in my quiery. Does Adobe PDF converter support Arabic font??

    Hi Yousif04,
If your document has fonts attached you can convert to Microsoft word that is quite possible. But if the fonts were used to create the file arent present in the system the Microsoft word may not be able to retain the layout of the document.
There shouldn't be any problem for ExportPdf service to convert your document.
To check fonts used for that PDF. Open PDF either in Reader or In Acrobat. Click on File go to Properties. Document Property windows will appear there is Fonts Tab. You will the fonts embedded for the document.

  • Hyperlinks in a PDF document converted from Word 2003

I have a large document for our state's mathematics vocabulary. It has internal hyperlinks to help someone navigate the document. I created it in Word 2003 and converted it to PDF using the tool in the menu bar. When finished, the PDF document has some working hyperlinks near the beginning (about a third of them), but most of the links (in the last two-thirds) do not work. I have also tried doing the conversion from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 (8.1.4), but I get the same results. Can someone help me solve this problem so the PDF document has all working links? Thanks.

  • Use xml file to create a word/pdf document

i have a xml doument created using jdom i need to create a word or a pdf document from this file
is there a way to tackle this using java? or what else would you recomend?

    Without knowing any details, I would guess that you have a couple of options;
Parse the xml using SAX or some similar tool and use the data recovered to create the document using an existing API; HWPF for example would allow you to create a simple Word documnet or, if you were much braver, you could use the SWT to 'drive' Word using OLE/COM.
If you are very lucky and the xml document conforms to the format Word has recently begun to recognise, you could just try opening the document in Word using the Desktop class.
As far as I am aware, there is no one tool that will do all of this for you. Of course, you could try using Google of visiting Sourceforge to see if anyone is working on such an application.

  • Bulk update height of Hyperlinks in a PDF document

When we export our InDesign document to PDF, hyperlinks are automatically generated for each item in the Table of Contents (TOC). This is great, but the problem is the hyperlink area of each line overlaps with the hyperlink area of the next line. This can create confusion in Adobe Reader and Apple Preview when a user clicks near the top or bottom of a TOC heading on a line, thinking it will take them to that heading in the document but instead they are taken to the preceeding or following heading in the document.
We currently have to open the PDF up in Adobe Acrobat and manually go through and reduce the height of every hyperlink in our document, particularly in the TOC (using the Link Tool). Is there anyway in InDesign to change the height of hyperlinks that are exported? If not, is there a way to bulk update the height of all the hyperlinks using Acrobat rather than doing each one individually/manually (maybe some sort of script)?
    Many thanks : ) Lee

  • How do I add a hyperlink into a pdf document in OS X Mountain Lion?

It appears that Mountain Lion does not allow you to add links to pdfs docs in preivew. Does anyone know a work around?
Why would Apple remove this festure?
    Thanks,
    S.

    1. I deleted the HP folder in the printer folder in the library and the orgcups.plist and anything HP related in the preferences folder. Restarted and I checked the app store for updates..nothing.
2.Added my printer via print and scan in system preferences restarted checked the app store..nothing.
3.So out of sheer aggravation I went back to # 1 and checked the app store and wouldn't you know the newest update was there.
I learned a little trick for both the app and itunes store, hit command and r at the same time, it's almost like a reset. I'm sick of downloading updates from the apple website so am trying to be patient but this one came faily quick as for how I got the update from #3, no idea, I don't ask or research, just happy I got it. Good luck and lmk if you need help.

  • How to hyperlink from a pdf file to a specific page in a second pdf file

I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open in acrobat pro and have hyperlinks that jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
It seems to me to be something that everyone would want to do and should be simple enough.
But I seem to be missing something.
I had partial success a few years ago using what I recall are the following general points:
    Create files in word,
    Use absolute address
    Use / not \,
Converting the spaces in the address to %20
Set the hyperlink base to “file:///T:/PdfDocumentsFolder/”
Add location with  #page=3 to end of file name,
Convert to pdf with acrobat pdfmaker
Open pdf with web browser into reader.(could not get it to work on mac with OS 9) by Checking Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF in browser
This will allow the pdf to open to a given page, but only in the acrobat reader under MS IE, Not in Acrobat pro and not on a mac even in the reader.
Now I have a large (500) PDF documents with a very large number of comments and a key user switched to a Mac and can not automatically go to the page and would lose or have to transfer comments that have been made on the pdfs.
I have looked at and tried a number of things that have not worked:
Change all the links by hand:
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link
    Action-Open file
I can not see where when Inserting a link by hand one can place the page number
    Action-Open weblink
Close, This can open a file,
If Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF is checked it will jump to a page
But if it is not checked it will open in acrobat pro and not to the page
Does not seem to work on a mac
    Looked at acrobat javascript
Don’t seem to see any method that would allow a page number
    Under open document
    Open under a URL
    app.launchURL("Document.pdf", true);
seems to error if a #page=2 is add to file name
    Looked at security
Don’t seem to see that there is anything in the preferences that can be set to enable the jump to page action
Looked at privileged and non-privileged and did not see how that would help
    Looked at adding disclosed=true;
    function Disclose()
    this.disclosed = true;
Looked at Portfolios to see if some kind of group of documents would allow the jumps but could not find a solution.
I have not looked at bookmarks to see if I bookmarked every page “Pagexxx” and then jump to the bookmark would get around the problem.
So I am not getting the right combination and could use some help
    Thanks
    John
    Current Systems in use:
    Windows XP
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or
Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    P.S.
In a similar vain within the word source documents I was able to get a hyperlinks to make the same kind of jump to a page using a VBA macro with the following call:
    Shell "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe  /A page=" & iPageNum & "&Zoom=125=OpenActions """ & sHyperlinkBase & sHyperlinkAddress & """", vbNormalFocus
After parsing the hyperlink and to get file name and  the page number
So I know acrobat pro can be called as an application to jump to a page

    Thanks for that information.
I did not see that the “go to view link” could change documents. I thought it was only within a document.
I manually added two “go to view links” and that seems to work on both mac and pc computers.
    That brings up two questions.
For old files can a acrobat java script batch file be setup to read the hyperlinks in a pdf document  and replace them with a “go to view link” style?
Can one place a “go to view link” style in a word document and then have the adobe convert to acrobat process it into the pdf format with the rest of the document? (or set up the converter to make word hyperlinks change to pdf “go to view links”?

  • Relative hyperlinks in pdf documents printed from visio 2007

Hello to all. The problem we are trying to solve is to maintain relative hyperlinks that were created in visio 2007 when we publish or print a pdf document. The pdf document that we printed is written in adobe reader 9, and it maintains the hyperlinks but as absolute ones and we required the hyperlinks to maintain as relatives. The idea is to distribute the pdf document with its hyperlinks and the documents that are linked to it in different computers that are not in the same network. The documents that we are trying to link are pdf, word and excel 2007 documents. The operating system we use is Microsoft vista home premium. Does anyone know how to maintain relative hyperlinks in a pdf document printed from visio 2007? Thanks in advance!

Bernd Alheit, thanks for your answer. We print the pdf document from visio 2007 and then we read it in adobe reader 9. The relative hyperlinks work fine in visio 2007, but they change to absolute ones in the pdf document.

  • Hyperlink to a pdf in KN

Hi! I'm trying to hyperlink to a multi page pdf document. I.e if we come to talk about special features and want to go deeper into it I want to click on the link and open the datasheet. I have tried to add a slide and drag 'n drop my pdf into that slide but then it appears as a one page only. I can not see the other pages. Any solution anybody?
    //Peter

I would guess you want to scroll or page through a document lengthy enough that it doesn't fit on a single KN slide. The "hyperlink" part is secondary.
I believe you can't do what you want the way you want to do it, at least, not in KN alone; you'll have to make a work-around. I can thin of two basically different solutions:
    1. Using KN only: Each page of your pdf document has to be a separate object - in your case, probably a single page (or even less, perhaps, depending on readability) of your original pdf document. When you've made those, you have 2 basic possibilities: either put them all on one slide, and build the animation to show one after the other; or put each page on a separate slide; you may want to combine both methods. You can then hyperlink to wherever you want to go. The first of these is probably unsuitable for your purpose, since you may not always want to start showing your datasheet from beginning to end each time.
A somewhat more tedious (depending on how large your main presentation is - how many slides) task is getting back to your presentation where you left off. For this, you'll have to put hyperlinks on your datasheet slides to those individual main presentation slides to which you may want to return.
    2. Using Exposé, or, better, Spaces: The datasheet remains a separate document, pdf or whatever, open on your desktop while you're running your KN presentation. The KN presentation has no datasheet in it, and no hyperlinks; and, in KN slideshow prefs, you've checked the "Allow Exposé ..." box. Then, while you're running the KN presentation, use hotkeys to switch from KN to your datasheet, and switch back to KN by clicking on the KN icon in the dock. The whole hyperlink problem is eliminated, you always return to KN where you left off, and you can scroll through your whole datasheet however you please. I prefer Spaces over Exposé.
Of these two methods, I prefer the second, using Spaces.

  • Hyperlink Problem, slow PDF load

I had previously built a Web site with an earlier version of iWeb, and posted it on my site (not .mac) with no problems. I needed to redesign the site; I used iWeb version 2.02. I did everything the way I did before as far as creating hyperlinks, but this time there were problems. The hyperlinks assigned to text mostly work, but the pdf's associated with them load incredibly slowly. Much slower than previously. Additionally, I tried to use images to create hyperlinks, also to pdf files, and some of them worked and others didn't. They were just dead. I tried several times but to no avail.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, when installing a hyperlink, and choosing the related file, is there anyway to edit the file's actual pathway? The dialog box just allows me to choose files, which it then loads automatically.
    Thanks,
    Rex

    Hi,
Well, then why don't we get right to figuring out what the reasons are.
-Can I assume we are talking about PDF documents created using a MAC?
-Being exported using either Pages or the Print dialog?
-Using what quality setting if in Pages?
-Compressing or not compressing using Quartz Filter in the Print Dialog?
-Exported files to be opened using which application, browser or program?
If you are making these decisions as necessary than the only other thing you could look at would be the content imported into the documents at time of creation. That is unless your documents have security issues that created problems for those using other platforms during the last year.
Working your way through the above checklist should help you answer your original question.

  • Can commenting tools be used for a PDF document created by scanning another document?

I have Adobe Reader X.  It has commenting tools.  I
created a PDF file by scanning another docu
ment (a newpaper clipping) to the PDF file for an attachment to an Email. I am not able to use the highlighting tool on the new PDF document.  Since I was the author of the PDF document in this case (but obviously did not use Adobe Acrobat to create it), can I somehow enable use of commenting tools for the document?

The highlight tool works for highlighting text that is in the document (as text objects). Images of text, which is what you get with a scan, cannot be highlighted with this tool, even if you had Acrobat.

  • Border getting added to PDF document when printing using ePrint

We have HP LASERJET PRO 200 COLOR MFP M275nw printer. We are using the Version 2.3.1 of the HP ePrint Android application to print a PDF document from an Android tablet. When document gets printed, it has borders all around and the document. Because of this the document appears "shrunk". If we use Adobe Reader application on PC and print the document at "Actual Size" then no borders get added to the document and the document appears to be printed at exact scale. Is this a limitation of the printer or a bug in the ePrint application. Is there a HP printer (other than what we are using) where using ePrint application we can print "borderless" PDF documents from Android tablet?

    Hi,
You have to wait for Android (Google) or HP to produce an app which can print borderless.

  • How to sort pdf documents by modified date using Javascript action

    Hello,
I want to use a Javascript action to sort multiple pdf documents in a folder before I run a Javascript action that prints the last page of multiple pdf documents.  I received help from this forum on the last page print script and it works perfectly.  The downside is it prints in default NAME order and I need them to print in accending DATE MODIFIED order.  I'm not sure if the sort function could be incorporated into the print script or if it would be a seperate code/action.
This is the script to print the last page of several pdf documents:
    this.print
    ({bUI: false,
    nStart:this.numPages-1,
    bSilent: true,
    bShrinkToFit: true});
I would appreciate help from anyone that is willing to share the code to "sort by DATE MODIFIED".
    Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro
    Windows 7
    Thank you in advance,
    David C.

I'm not a code writer.  I'm trying to streamline some operations here at work.  The original code assistance was to print the last page of several pdf documents (sometimes as many as 100 to 150 at a time) without having to open each file, scroll to the bottom, Ctrl-P, current page, Print.  Can't express how beneficial it was to get that to work.  I realize I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, but when it prints out, it would be great to have them print in DATE MODIFIED order since they are kept in processed order rather than alpha order.
If the two processes are too labor intensive I fully understand and appreciate all the assistance thus far.  I was hoping it would be as simple as the first script coding to do the actual printing.
    Thanks,
    David C.
