Using fotos from aperture in indesign

how can i use pictures from my aperture-library in indesign?
when i create a frame in indesign, press cmd-d for placing an object in the frame, i'd like to navigate to the picture i want. but that's not possible any more since the aperture library is a package and can't be opened in the import-dialog of indesign.
in iphoto i was used to search a picture, copied the name of it, opened indesign, cmd-d, pasted the name of the picture in the search-dialog and it worked fine. in aperture that doesn't work ...

Have you tried using the Media Browser?
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
+*(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)+*
Note that this yields the Aperture previews. If you want anything else you'll need to export from Aperture.

  • How to import high rez photos from Aperture to inDesign

I have done a fair bit of research on this but it seems no one has found a good way to do this.  It seems simple enough though...
    - My photos are in Aperture 3.x.
    - I just got inDesign CS6 in order to create a book.
    - I can click and drag images from Aperture to inDesign without a problem, except...  that it only brings in the preview.  Not the full rez file.  I don't mind working with the low rez preview of course... as long as it then brings in the full size one at export time.  But that does not seem to happen.
System:  iMac 24", Mac OS 10.8, all the latest version of the various softwares.
I suppose I could first export all of the photos to the desktop but that would represent a time consuming extra step.  There has got to be a better way.  Uhhhh... right???
    Thanks for any help.

You mean like selecting "Icon view" from the 4 different view modes at the top of Finder windows?
You can also adjust the size of the previews with the slider at the bottom right of the window in icon view.
Click the below images in the forum to see an enlarged view.
Or like "Coverflow view" one of the other views. You can cycle through the photos using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Or by clicking the icon of one of your photos, press the Space bar on the keyboard.
You can then use your right and left arrow keys to cycle through your photos. The subsequent photos will replace the current photo on screen.
Or if you have Creative Suite you can use Bridge to view your photos all at the same time. There are also other features in Bridge. You can even drag photos directly from Bridge to InDesign and it will automatically create the links.
In newer versions of MacOSX and InDesign you can even drag photos directly from the Finder into InDesign and it will again automatically create the links.

  • Use image from Aperture in Xcode image well

Is it possible to extract an image from Aperture and display this image in an Xcode image well?
I have a script that searches for and extracts a required image in the format:
image version id B4bCHCfeR969OQ7SEcUsOQ of library id LibraryFolder
I now want to display the image in an ApplescriptObjC project, how do I build a path to the image well?
Hope this makes sense, as usual, any help gratefully received.

I have been trying to use that same script but changing selcting an image to searching for an image but it won't work, please show me the error of my ways!
    set theImage to "Image 1"
    tell application "Aperture"
set ims to every image version
              set names to {}
repeat with i from 1 to count of ims
set n to get the name of item i of ims
set names to names & n
              end repeat
set imageSel to first image version whose name is theImage
export imageSel using export setting "JPEG - Original Size" to (path to desktop)
    end tell
Giving this a closer look you could condense the script down to
    set theImage to "IMG_08067"
    tell application "Aperture"
              try
set imageSel to first image version whose name is theImage
              on error errTxt number errNum
display dialog "Error: " & errNum & return & errTxt
                        tell me to quit
              end try
export imageSel using export setting "JPEG - Original Size" to (path to desktop)
    end tell
You don't appear to be doing anything with the repeat loop or variables and you're always taking the first image you find with the name.
So here we look in the whole library for an image with the name and if we find it we export it. The try/error block is to catch times that the name you are looking for isn't in the library.

  • Use photos from Aperture 3 as Wallpapers problem

I chose photos from Aperture projects as desktop wallpaper by right-clicking on desktop>change desktop background. But the photos all shrank to maybe half size on desktop. I used to store my wallpapers in iphoto, so I can process them a lit bit when I want to. I am planning on migrating from iphoto to aperture 3, and I know aperture 3 can do a much better job in processing. But unable to display wallpapers in right size really bothers me. Anybody can help with this? Thanks in advance.

You might find reading [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3781|Aperture 3: How to optimize Aperture for the best looking slideshow] useful in expanding on what PilotGuy74 has said. Although it's written about slideshows, what they explain there applies to your wallpapers situation too.
I have already missed the simplicity of iphoto. Maybe aperture is just too pro to me.
Don't be put off. Aperture is a very complex powerful application - you can't expect to learn how to use it all, all at once. Take it a bit at a time. Learn a little as you go and you'll find that, over time, you will develop your skills with it.

  • Using Photos from Aperture in FCP X

I am brand new to FCP X, and am trying to use photos that I have in Aperture.  When I bring the photos to the timeline, they are much smaller files that the files I have in Aperture.  How can I get the full version into my project in FCP?

Thank you for your reply.  I tried that, and it did fill the frame, which will be very useful on this project.
The problem I am having is that in Aperture the photos are failry big, for example, in Aperture one image is 1.66 MB
but when I see it in FCP it is a small file size, 49.6 KB:
    Any ideas?

  • Is there a way to use music from multiple users itunes libraries on one iMac for a slideshow in Aperture?

I am trying to put together a slide show for a trip my wife and I took to England. I would like to be able to use music from both our itunes libraries in the slide show. I am using Aperture to create the slide show since it seems to be more versatile than iPhoto for this. Only trouble is that when I log into my username on the iMac I only see my iTunes library and similar when logging into her username. We have different music but would like to use some from each library in the slide show.

You can only use one library at a time in an Aperture slideshow, so I'd suggest to simply collect the audio that you want to use in a folder (export the songs from both iTunes Libraries) and then import this folder to Aperture. Now you have a project containing the audio files; you will see it in the Aperture Audio section of the audio Browser, right above the iTunes section.
You can use the Apperture audio just like the audio in iTunes to drag to the timeline of your slideshow.

  • I used to send pictures from Aperture to Facebook, now it's giving me this error

"An unknown error occurred. Please try again later."  What does that even mean?!  No error code, I've tried deleting my account and reentering it.  I know I have Internet connection and I was able to send photos just last week.  What's the deal?

"An unknown error occurred. Please try again later."  What does that even mean?!  No error code, I've tried deleting my account and reentering it.  I know I have Internet connection and I was able to send photos just last week.  What's the deal?
When does this error occur? When you ctrl-click images in Aperure's Browser and use the command "Share > Facebook"? Or when you try to open your Facebook albums in Aperture's "Shared" section?
    What is your Aperture version?
When I just tried to visit my Facebook test album from Aperture from the "Facebook" drop-down menu
I also got an error message.
That vanished, after I signed directly into my Facebook account using Safari. Then I opened each album on Facebook and checked the settings.
After that, FB uploaded the albums again correctly from Aperture.

  • What file size is used for when uploading to MobileMe from Aperture?

When I upload my photo files from Aperture (and previously from iPhoto) I routinely use the upload setting named "dowloading of optimized" files.  I know that this downsizes the files for faster upload/download, but still gives a file size acceptable for great onscreen presentation and for a resulting small print of someone downloads.  Can anyone tell what downsizing Aperture does in this case?  For example, 50% jpeg, email sized jpeg, etc.  Since Apple will kill the MobileMe galleries in June I have to switch to another photo presentation host.  For upload to such a host Aperture gives choices like 100% jpeg, 50% jpeg, etc.  What I want to do is end up with something similar to what I now get with the "optimized" setting.  Thank you.

You will note that I referenced both programs (iPhoto & Aperture) in my original message above, and I have posted in both forums.  Since both programs offer the same (at least on the surface) option of "optimized" to MobileMe galleries, one might assume that both use the same or a similar system.  Lengthly testing of my own is the "best" solution only if I can not find anyone who is knowledgeable about what these programs do in the upload.  It has been my sincere joy over many many years that I often find people on these forums who possess knowledge much greater than I.  As to the programs changing the algorithum at any time, I doubt that since this MobileMe function will disappear in June.  Seems like a strange time to make changes.

  • What is the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc.  tiff? psd? 16bit? dpi?

What are the best settings to use in the export manager when exporting from Aperture 3.5 to Photoshop cc for editing?
Should I use tiff or psd?
    8bit or 16bit?
    How many dpi?

That will depend on the photometric resolution of your originals. For jpegs it would be a waste of space to convert them to a higher resolution than 8bit, but if your images actually have already more than 8bit, you will want to preserve this quality. Then he 16bit format will help to prevent color clipping.
Both tiff and psd will preserve the lossless workflow. With Photoshop as external editor I would use he psd format for better support of layers and transparency, e.g., when you want to create watermark files.
The dpi will only matter, when you export the file for printing.

  • Can you use photos from outside of iphoto or aperture?

I now use Lightroom as Aperture is painfully slow so Albums are folders in the Pictures folder. iWeb appears not to let me drag a folder into an Album page. Will I need to fire up Aperture again?

It seems that we're not able to drag folders of photos from the Finder into an Album page in iWeb. However, there's a workaround.
open  the Media pane in iWeb and drag a folder of images from either Aperture or iPhoto into the Album page (neither have to be open).
open the album and delete all of the photos.
drag the photos from the folder in the Finder into the photo page in iWeb.
Create a dummy album in Aperture or iPhoto with just one photo to drag from the Media Browser in iWeb.

  • Problems printing from Aperture using Epson R340

I have an Epson R340 and happily use all the paper settings such as Glossy print from Photoshop to the printer. Having now installed Aperture I find I am not able to do this. I have reloaded the Epson drivers but still not able to do this. To elaborate when I press Print image from Aperture I go into Print settings - and find that the following items have a line through them - Print Settings, Colormanagement, Printoption and Extenstionsetting. This is not the case when I look at the menu via Photoshop. Can anyone help me on this.

I have an Epson R320 and all the Epson's printer driver options are available to me in Aperture. My list is slightly different: Print Settings, Color Management, Page Layout Settings, and Extension Settings with the words separated by spaces and each has a capitalized first letter.
I'm wondering if Aperture isn't seeing your Epson driver files. You might want to remove the Aperture plist file from your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Aperture.

  • How do I upload photo versions from aperture to my Ipad using photo stream.

I am not able to upload photo versions from aperture to my ipad using photo stream.  The only photos that upload are the ones that have not been retouched.  However when I try other unretouched photos in a different album they do not upload.  Do I have some incorrect settings that need to be adjusted.

The photos that hove not been altered in aperture are uploaded in photo stream however the altered photos (versions) are not.
That is puzzling. My shared photo streams do upload all image versions I am dragging to them - original version and edited version. But both versions have to be shared to the stream, and they have to be unstacked, as Thomas already pointed out.
Sometimes it takes a long time for the images to appear in the Shared Photo Stream, however. Maybe your Aperture Library needs repairing. Have you tried the Aperture Library First Aid Tools? Launched Aperture with the ⌥⌘-kys held down?
