Using free hotspots in Italy and Greece

Question

I am going to be on a cruise and taking my iPad to Skype (video) to home when on land at free hotspots.  Is this going to be possible?  If I want to call a mobile number back home, what do I buy? Skype WiFi? Skype credits? or get a subscription for 3 months?

If you are wanting to use Skype to call a mobile number, you would need to either keep Skype Credit on your account or purchase a subscription.  You don't mention where the mobile number is located.  Depending on where it is, you would have either the option for an Unlimited subscription that covers calls to mobiles (the USA is an example of this), or you would have to purchase a subscription with a bank of monthly minutes that would cover calls to mobiles.  Most subscriptions are available monthly or for 12 months at a time.
