Using GeeThree Vid Mix in iMovie

Although I have done it before, iMovie and in particular the GeeThree Plug-in called VidMix is not letting me choose an "Overlay Movie", all DV and MP4 Video files are greyed out, This is driving me nuts, I've verifyed and repaired permissions, and restarted the iMac I'm using all to no avail, help please.
Thanks in advance

Have you gone to the GeeThree website to see if they have any news for you?

iMovie starts to locate resources as photos and audio's by checking iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBande etc. Libraries and if there are problem in these - iMovie can not find needed material only thumbnails may be left intact.
So I would start by (reserve a lot of time - as this can take many hours 6-12 not unusual to me)
    • CONNECT Mac to Mains (adaptor)
    • Closing all applications
    • Start iPhoto - BUT KEEP cmd-key and alt-key down during up-start
    • Then select all alternatives
    • Let Your Mac be - in several hours during repair process
    When done
    • Turn off Mac
    • Turn on Mac
    • Now test if iMovie finds the needed photos
If this still do not work
    • Trash iMovie Pref. file
    • Repair Permissions - Disk Util tool
Now most probably all is well again.

  • We are recording 2 voices over an instrumental track. Every time there is a rest in the vocal part the volume of the instrumental track noticeable increases. Is this fixable? We are using Alesis multi mix 8 with 2 microphones.

  • Why can't I use the content library in iMovie?

I can use every other feature in iMovie except for the Content library. It is not in my side bar, and when i get it from the tool bar above the options are gray like I can't use them.

    Hello taigepeves,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you're trying to get your Content Library to appear in iMovie, please make sure you have a movie project open, as it should then automatically appear.
You can find titles, transitions, music, and maps in the Content Library. The Content Library is at the bottom of the sidebar once you open a movie project.
If the sidebar is not already open, click Show in the toolbar.
At the bottom of the sidebar, select an item from the Content Library.
In the Browser, your selection appears (titles, transitions, and so on). Drag one to the timeline to add it to your movie.
If you add a title, map, or globe, you can adjust settings in the Adjustments Bar which is located above the Viewer.

If you add a transition, double-click it in the timeline to adjust its duration.
To return to your video clips in the Browser, select an event in the sidebar.

  • I asked this question before but I can't find it now. Anyway, I'm trying to import a DVD video that was made on a MAC and use it on a new iMovie project.

I asked this question before but I can't find it now. Anyway, I'm trying to import a DVD video that was made on a MAC and use it on a new iMovie project.
How do I do the importing.

If the video is already on a DVD:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Why is using an external mixer important?

    Hello,
I am still a little confused on a couple of things. I know that it is best to monitor sound externally but why should you also need a mixer. Is the mixer used just for monitoring/adjusting the sound coming out of the speakers or is it for making adjustments to your project's audio in final cut pro. How is the mixer being hooked up to the computer (Mac Pro)? Is it via some sort of capture card? Please explain. I am used to using the audio interface that final cut pro has built in with its own set of mixers so I am wondering why do you need (or should use) an external mixer also.
    Thanks.

Thank you for the response Silal. I guess I may still be a little confused. Is the mixer directly affecting the audio in final cut pro or is it strictly monitoring the audio in the time line. With the use of the mixer I can connect a mic..., Which I understand, but if that is the case than I will be able to directly alter the audio content by being able to add the audio from the mic, and if that is so, then I guess FCP will recognize the mixer and I will be able to directly affect the audio. Is that correct? I know I am probably making this harder than it is. I just want to know fundamentally if using an external mixer allows me to alter the audio directly or just monitor the output. And is connecting it via the standard Mac audio input all that is needed or do I need other hardware. Sorry if I have made this even more confusing.

  • Can i make a video and use an external mixer for the sound?

can i make a video and use an external mixer for the sound with my ipod touch?

You need a special plug to use the iPod's mic in for the headphone jack. If you compare a headphone plug for a set that includes a mic and one that does not you can see that there is a difference.

  • What is a decent sound card to use with DJ Mixer Pro?

I'm having trouble finding a compatible external sound card to use with my Mac Mini. Specifically, I need one that supports surround sound to use with DJ Mixer Pro. I am currently unable to use the "Preview" function of the program during my sets to ensure proper blending from one track into another. I've gotten pretty good at working around it, but with the proper sound card I should be able to preview a track in the "rear" of the surround sound without disturbing the "front", which plays live to the crowd. Most information I can find on sound cards pertains to home theatre application, which I have no interest in. I also don't need anything too sophisticated as I use the program for local club performances instead of professional production. I would prefer something that connects through firewire to prevent any kind of delay, but most of these seem to be discontinued or expensive overkill, so I hope a USB 2.0 will suffice. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Using two different versions of iMovie...Please help!!

I am new to using iMovie and need to know whether it is possible to jump between two different versions of iMovie on two different computers. I have created my movie on a computer using a higher version and need to put it onto a computer using a lower version of iMovie. Is it possible to do this without any problems? Thanks!!

    Hi newvopo,
    welcome to this forum
it is recommended to stay within one version of iM while working on a project (no updates/no "file sharing"); many/all (?) iM versions are not down-compatible, e.g. iMHD has a different file-management then the versions before, or iM6 has totally new effects, transistions, not supported by any other version...
you haven't told us, which two version you like to use...
    besides:
you help yourself by giving us as much info about your Mac and apps as possible... use My Profile to add info....
    recommendation:
export your movie done so far back to tape, import into the older version of iM on other machine.......

  • Using a digi003 mixer with logic

i just purchase logic the other day and i cant figure out how to use my digi003 mixing board with it. does logic even support the digi003? the guy at sam ash told me that it did.

Ok - select an audio track in Logic. In it's channel strip, in the Input box, select the first input that Logic says your system sees.
Click on either the red record enable button, or the yellow input monitor button. Play your source through the mixer - do you get levels in Logic? If not, repeat for whatever other inputs are available in the input menu.
If none of those pass signal, then you need to look at the routing setup on the Alesis mixer to make sure you are routing signals correctly. Unfortunately I don't know that particular device, but check it's manual for how to route channels to the computer.

  • HT4864 I must install Snow Leopard to use iCloud fully. Is IMovie 6 and iDVD vs 7/0/4 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I must install Snow Leopard to use iCloud fully. Is IMovie 6 and iDVD vs 7.0/4 compatible with Snow Leopard?

You were misinformed. iCloud requires 10.7.2 or later. Snow Leopard is required to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion. See the following for the upgrade path and information to determine if your computer can be upgraded.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
