Using generic drivers in 64-bit mode for eSATA card with Marvell 88sx7042
Hello, all. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to plug the eSATA card's pnp info into, for example, one the plugins in the IOATAFamily kext so that it will mount in 64-bit mode. I've tried this, and simply inserting the supplied kext in the IOATAFamily kext -- the card is recognized in 32-bit mode, but in 64-bit mode, the card is recognized, but System Profiler reports that no drivers are installed. Of course, my generic JMicron card will load, but it is not Port-Multiplier aware, which renders it useless as the relevant external is a hardware RAID. TIA for any replies.

Have you got AppleCare or had the machine less than 90 days, if so give Apple a call.

Cannot go back to 64-bit mode for A3
I had been running A3 in 32-bit mode for the last few days. I saw that Hyrda and AperturetoSmugmug export plugins were updated to 64-bit, so decided to go back to 64-bit mode. I did the "Get Info" dialog, and de-selected 32-bit checkbox. Then when I try to start A3, I get a crash, it will not start in 64-bit mode. I tried removing all my plugins from the ../Application Support/... directory, still cannot open in 64-bit mode. I then tried to re-install the Trial verison (temporarily renamed by Aperture.app file in /Applications). Well, I could not even open the newly install trial version in 64-bit mode! When I set the trial version to open in 32-bit mode, everything was fine. I Have included the crash log here. Just wondering if anyone has an idea? Least I can run in 32-bit mode for now...

I used to be able to print labels for burned CDs with the cover being the playlist name and the other side the song titles...now the titles print out compacted, overlapping each other and illegible. I thought it was the printer but it happened w/1 other printer as well, which I used before for this exact thing w/no problem.
Try cleaning the print head with rubbing alcohol wipe, then replace your print head. Keep pushing the Ok.

I need to use ODBC drivers to access some Excel spreadsheets.
On my production box I am running Server 2008 64 bit and CF
standard which is 32 bit. The 32 bit CF application can chat with
the 32 bit ODBC drivers quite nicely.
The problem is my development box. I am using the developer
edition on Server 2008 64 bit but because no serial was entered on
the install CF installed as a 64 bit application. This means that
CF cannot talk with the 32 bit ODBC drivers and in fact will not
even "see" the drivers in the CF administrator.
So, is there a way to force the developer edition into 32 bit
mode during the install?
I would think that the developer edition would install as the
lowest level edition which would be 32 bit and would restrict the
IP addresses as it currently does.Select the browser you will be using with the key. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the uppermost panel check the box for Open in 32-bit mode.

I am hoping to use Spectrasonics instruments such as omnisphere in LE 9 but I was wondering if I need more ram to cope qith this. Also, should LE 9 automatically be in 64 bit mode or do I have to set it myself.

Logic 9.1.5 using more CPU in 64 bit mode
Yesterday updated to Logic 9.1.5
Have opened up projects in both 32 bit and 64 bit mode (but only 32 bit kernel as my mac pro is too old for 64 bit kernel).
Projects in 64 bit mode spike the CPU meter, and result in clicks and pops during playing.
Quit Logic, change to 32 bit mode, reopen same project. CPU meter reading lower, no clicks and pops on playback.
Now its an older machine (Mac Pro 1,1) and I am also running Vienna Ensemble Pro with a 9 GB template loaded up, but not connected to these projects I am opening, naturally this is taking resources.
Anyone else notice similar results, that the 64 bit mode causes projects to use more CPU?In 64bit mode, are you using any 32bit 3rd party plugins within these projects? The 32bit bridge might be taking a hit on the cpu. From my experience, Logic in 64bit mode with 64 bit plugins has slighly less cpu usage than 32 bit mode. You may want to try a project with only Logic plugins in both modes for a true comparison on your machine.

If that is the case then that plugin may require Firefox 32 bit mode. On Mac 10.6 Firefox 4 run as a 64 bit application by default and not all plugins support 64 bit mode.

How can I use my computer as a Headset device for my phone with Bluetooth?
Hello, Both my laptop and my phone support A2DP but for some reason the service (from the phone) does not show up while I add a new connection and the phone does not let me initiate a connection with any other profile except FTP, even though it detects other services in the service list like A2DP and works perfectly fine with other profiles like DUN, HID, OPP, SSP if the connection is started through the computer. I am currently using the latest version of the Toshiba stack [v8.00.12(T)], I have tried using WIDCOMM but it refuses to install drivers for both the internal Bluetooth and the USB Bluetooth that I use on my desktop. The standard Microsoft stack (generic driver) does install but it does not seem to communicate with my internal and external (USB) Bluetooth. With BlueSoleil (the default stack that came with the USB Bluetooth) I could set my device as "headset" instead of only "laptop/desktop", and this allowed both my phones to detect my laptop as a device they can use as a headset, but the problem with this stack was that only the older phone could actually connect to my laptop and that the internal Bluetooth could not be used. Basically, I want to set the device type as a "headset" for my phone using the Toshiba stack like I did with BlueSoleil. Is there any way this could be done? Thanks. Attached: Device type selection

Untitled.jpg 120 KBIt's not possible. You can use the iMac as a display for the MBP, but the reverse is not possible. The MBP does not have Target Display Mode as a feature and no third-party app nor hack can enable something that doesn't exist. The only way to accomplish this will be one of the network solutions.

Should I use an i686 or x86-64 install for a PC with only 2GB of RAM?
I'm going to be mainly using it for browsing, movies, music, work, and also some Wine gaming.
If it matters, it also has an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz and an ATI HD5770 1GB.
Also, I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon...I got a 64 bit laptop in jan 2009. That's when I decided to switch to 64. All I can say is that (a) my laptop does everything I want (b) it was easy to make the switch, things are improving and I expect that to continue. Conclusion: go with 64.
However, I have not done any benchmarks to compare 32 vs 64. I doubt I'd notice any subjective difference. I also keep a partition with a "frugal" install of puppy linux and this is way faster day-to-day (loading apps) than any traditionally installed distro.
My main problem could well be something you may encounter: ATI GRAPHICS I use fglrx day-to-day because my laptop operates at a lower temp so I'm hoping to give it a longer life with less fan noise. BUT I get HD video tearing so I have a separate arch partition for video using the radeon driver which works just fine. -
Best bit rate for blu rays with Toast 11
I'm burning a ProRes422 (uncompressed @ 18GB) movie to blu-ray using Toast 11 Titanium. The maximum bit rate is 9.0 Mbps. Is this sufficient? It seems very low...
Compressor has never worked properly with burning a blu-ray (I know there are more custom settings). I would use this but have had no luck, the blu-ray never burns properly only had luck with Toast.Thanks for the info, somehow I've had to pay extra for the blu-ray plug in to burn a blu-ray at 26Mbps.
Now I need to figure out why the audio now is 'cracking' on the deeper parts of the soundtrack. The audio is set to PCM 96kHz 24 bit just like the original Pro Res file. In the original it does not 'peak' or 'distort' on the deeper parts of the soundtrack when playing in Quicktime, not sure what is happening to the audio after being burned to blu-ray. I might have to post in Soundtrack to get some feedback, any suggestions? -

Web dudeYea, I thought about an adapter for the USB 2.0 port, but for a few bucks more, get the USB 3.0 adapter and be able to connect to Ethernet at Gigabit speeds!
Since Lenovo has not commented on the absence of an Ethernet port, I'm guessing that the slim height of the Yoga prevents it, unless you go to some funky slide-out module and connect at a 90 degree angle (which would be a worse design). I had an old Thinkpad (or Dell?) with that design, and they are intermittent and subject to being broken off.
Bundling in the Ethernet Adapter would have been a nice touch. Perhaps they were trying not to increase the Yoga's "above market" price further.
