Using generic ipod charger...

is it safe to use generic ipod charger??

Most non Apple branded chargers work ok, but there have been reports of some that don't.
Don't think anyone will be able to say for definite whether they'll cause problems or not.

  • After use of iPod charger - iPhone goes kaplooey

has this happened to any of you ? As far as I can tell (from the ultra miniature type on the chargers) both my iPod (60Gb) and iPhone chargers supply 5vdc to said devices. Thats a good beginning but this fact may not expressly imply 100% compatibility between these chargers. Ive read some of the reader comments on these forums but there doesnt seem to be anything *from Apple* that authoritatively states either:
    a. yes these chargers are 100% compatible, and therefore, covered by warranty
    b. no these arent guaranteed to be 100% compatible
Asking the Genius Bar folks (for me at least) - yields a range of opinions which are frankly not all that helpful in trying to determine authorative compatibility.
Anybody know of a link where Apple themselves discuss this issue ?

Use this compact, convenient USB-based adapter to charge your iPhone or iPod at home, on the road, or whenever it's not connected to a computer.
According to this listing, the same USB charger can be used with the 2nd gen iPod shuffle, 2nd and 3rd gen iPod nano, iPod with video, iPod classic, iPod touch, and iPhone.

  • Use of IPOD charger in UK

I am a US resident and use my charger in the US. Is it compatible to use with UK electricity if I use an adapter plug without a transformer? Please advise soonest.

    Yes.
See if you have the proper plugs though.

  • Using 4g iPod Charger on iPod Touch

Replaced my 4g iPod with a Touch and was wondering if the AC power charger that came with it would work on my Touch. I think the adapter is the same, just wondering if the power output is compatible and won't fry my Touch.

  • Where can I buy 3 pin adaptor for Official IPOD charger

    Hi
I am using the IPod charger that came with my son's IPod to charge my IPod Nano which works fine. However when we bought the IPod, the charger that came with it has a 2 pin attachment rather than a 3 pin (UK type) attachment. Although we can use the charger using a 3 pin to 2 pin adaptor plug I would like instead just to replace the 2 pin attachment on the charger with a 3 pin one. However I can't find them on sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Thanks

The UK Apple store sells them. Select store from the buttons at the top, and scroll until you find a list of countries. Select UK, and find the charger. I think they're £19.

  • Can I use my iPod Cord to also recharge my iPhone?

someone told me I could NOT use my iPod Charging cord for my iPhone...gee, they look identical.....is there any reason they can't be interchangeable?

No, the only difference is that the iPod cables have squeeze release buttons, as opposed to the one that comes with the iPhone that just pulls out.

  • Can I charge iPhone with old iPod charger

I left my iPhone charger at work. Can I use the charger from the 2nd gen iPod?

Sure. I have an original 10G iPod and, after calling Apple Store help, was advised I could use the iPod charger. I've been doing so for at least a month. No problems. Good luck.

  • Ok to charge iPhone with iPod charger?

I was looking at the specs on both:
iPhone AC adapter: 5 volts @ 1 amp
iPod (5th gen) AC adapter: 12 volts @ 1 amp
Obviously considering the numbers don't match and the total power output is not the same (12 watts for ipod adapter and 5 watts for iPhone adapter), it is not good to charge the iPhone on the ipod adapter.
But I was wondering, can the iPhone handle it? Has anybody tried it?
Or do I have to keep charging the iPhone through the computer (I have no more outlets for the iPhone AC adapter to plug into)
The reason I am asking is that the iPhone is taking a long time to charge through the USB port on the computer. I plugged in to charge this afternoon and it is only about 80% done. This is the first time I am charging it since I got it though so that might be the cause.
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

OK, I give up. Which is the right answer?

  • Non-compatible iPod charger?

My brother has a iPod charger, not apple branded.
It's something like a multi-charger. It has a apple charger,
    then a couple more chargers.
He says it wont connect the iPod to iTunes.
Now my first thought is, maybe because it isn't made by Apple.
I have seen it before and used it to charge, but I've never used it to connect to iTunes.
If iTunes doesn't reconize the charger or driver, would there be any downloadable driver software,
for the charger, to make iTunes compatible with it?
If not I will have to use my iPod charger.
I don't live in the same house as him.
So the cosiquices would be he wouldn't be able to sync with iTunes anytime he wanted.
Unless he spends $20 for a Apple branded charger, which he really doesn't want to.

I don't understand.  You don't use a charger to connect to iTunes.  You connect to iTunes using the cable that came with the iPod.  One part of the cable is connected to the iPod Touch, the other end connects to the USB port on a PC or Mac that has iTunes installed on it.  A charger has nothing to do with it.

  • IPod charger for iPhone

Can I use my iPod charger for iPhone? I think it's second generation iPod mini. The voltages are different.

Well, I took the iPhone workshops at the Apple Store on Saturday and Apple's "official" word is, if it doesn't say "Works with iPhone", don't use it, because it's "not optimal". Of course this all only applies to the actual power converter, not any iPod dock to USB CABLE. But I've been using an iHome clock radio and I just bought an Extreme Mac Luna clock radio, and they both seem to work well. Since they are not DESIGNED for iPhone, they both give me the airplane mode message and make strange noises periodically if I don't tuen airplane mode on.

  • Charging with iPhone with iPod Charger ?

This may be a simple question, but I have not seen anything offical on this. Is it acceptable to use an ipod charger to charge the iphone?
I have been doing this successfully so I can charge at home (with my old ipod charge) and at the office (with the charger that came with the iphone), but I do not know if this will cause any issues.
Could not think of why not, but thought I would throw it out there.

Well I have old iPod 4 Gen charger and the output is 13v. my iPhone charger actually print "iPod charger" on it but the output is only 5V! So I'm worry if I use the old iPod charger for the iPhone it will smoke my new toy! will it? I haven't try.
