I have a 20 dollar gift card to buy lion ($30). If I enter this into the mac app store, will it just charge me $10?

The iTunes Store and Mac App Store use the same user database, so any credit in your account can be used in either place. Gift cards, while they may be labeled as one or the other, are actually identical and can be redeemed though either the iTunes Store or the Mac App Store.
Note, though, that gift cards for the Apple Store are completely different and cannot be used in either the iTunes Store nor the Mac App Store.

What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

Getting Error Message when trying to use Software Update in the Mac App Store...

Hello,
I was wondering if someone knows what this error message in the Mac App Store means. I am trying to run Software Update by clicking in the Apple Menu however, I am not able to see my available updates and instead get the following message on the Mac App Store:
I have tried to fix the error by deleting both the Mac App Store Caches and plist files in the user library and made sure that I am properly logged into the Mac App Store with my personal Apple ID.
What else can I do?

However, today I wanted to update iTunes to version 10.7 and decided to use the standalone installer rather than the SU version. I am trying to download the yosemite installer from the mac app store, but can't seem to log in. I receive no error message. What could be causing these issues? I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8.

It says an error has occurred the request timed out. I even know iTunes has a update. Please help.

Can iTunes Gift Cards be used in the Mac App Store?

I want to buy a MacBook Pro, and am wondering if I can use iTunes Gift Cards to buy apps for my Mac in the Mac App Store. I dont want to use a credit card, I would rather buy iTunes Gift Cards or be able to ask for iTunes Gift Cards as Gifts to use on my Mac. Is it possible to use the gift cards on the Mac App Store?

You can use iTunes gift cards in the App Store for the Macintosh to purchase applications for the Macintosh computers; however, you cannot use iTunes gift cards as an Apple Gift card for the Apple Store.

Starting an hour ago, the Mac App Store says I need to download Lion 10.7.4 again. Anyone else?

I am currently running Mac OS 10.6.8 with all updates on a Mac Mini (3,1--the model with 5 USB ports). Previously, I purchased, downloaded, but did NOT install Lion 10.7.3. Yesterday, I successfully downloaded 10.7.4 via the Mac App Store, but as before I didn't install it (planning to do that this evening). However, starting about an hour ago, the Mac App Store indicates that Lion has been updated and that I should download 10.7.4 -- again, apparently. I'm using the same AppleID account (the only one I have). Anyone else have the same experience? Is there a 10.7.4 version 1.1? If so, nothing in the software description mentions it...

This answer sidesteps my question. I'm aware that I could have upgraded from 10.6.8 to my previously downloaded 10.7.3 and then updated to 10.7.4 using the smaller updaters (I would favor using the Combo). But since the 10.7.3 FileVault security issue directly applied to me, I wanted to upgrade straight to 10.7.4, where it was addressed. Also, since my internet connection is quite fast, taking 15 minutes to redownload all of it again was not a deal-breaker for me. Interestingly, the instance of 10.7.4 I downloaded last night is 25 bytes longer than the 10.7.4 I downloaded the day before. Performing a 'diff -ra' within 'Terminal' between the two instances of the 10.7.4 Installer app revealed that the changes are confined to a single file within: 'Install Mac OS X Lion.app/Contents/_MASReceipt/receipt', and that they look like timestamp differences, so I'm now guessing that the two instances are functionally identical...

How to reinstall the mac app store after an accidental removal?

I have a real problem, and I could use anyones help. I am running Mac os x 10.6.8 and was trying to to upgrade to lion, however I was experiencing issues with the mac app store and had to delete, not in the knowledge that I cannot download the combo pack of 10.6.6. Is there anyway to reinstall the mac app store after 10.6.6, current is 10.6.8.

About The Mac App Store? is it doing well in Business, like do a lot of people go on it & buy & download Free Apps? cause I Worry what if it will be like if we had no Mac App Store like we used to? then I Would never be able to really find anything good if Apple did not come up with Something Papular to find Games Apps & other apps, I Go on Mac App Store & i look at Reviews but it is not up to today's date, very few of them have up to today's dat Reviews & Some don't even have any Reviews & some only have 1 Review in there that is up to date, it looks like Apple Mac App Store is Dead? or there just not Accepting Reviews?, so is The Mac App Store doing well? or is it ready to go out of Business? How do I disable the Mac App Store?

I have a special needs son and for this reason I have to limit what he has access to on his iMac.
With the Mac App Store coming I had made the choice to simply not install/download the Mac App Store. I realized that this morning that is not an option, it is installed as part of the 10.6.6 update.
I removed it from the dock but still I realize it is installed on the Mac and for example it's an option on the Apple pulldown menu and I know there is an option of when a file cannot be opened there is an option to open the app store to find an app.
I looked at Parental controls but unless I am wrong could not find an option to completely disable the app store. I don't mind enabling it when I want to install certain apps on his mac that he will need. This may be convenient but simply don't want him to be able to get into the app store to install apps.

I agree. Current MAC is my first and I was happy with it. But this new direction means it will be my last. I've deleted AppSotre.app (or whatever it was called). but I still be Finder offering to search App Store for me !!! It is well and truly tied into the OS.
With windows you take what Microsoft what you to have. Now with Mac you take what Apple require you to have. So looks like Linux (where you still seem to have a choice).
Seems to be a lot of bad feeling caused by the fact that it cannot be globally disabled. Fanboys love it and hate any criticism yet many others are disappointed. For me, I'll give Apple a wek for a global disable/remove, them commit to Linux. (Of course I'll keep the Mac for Photoshop but no more updates and no replacement).

I am unable to remove an application from the mac app store update even if the application is not present

I am using a Mac mini (wich was used by another user in our company) and for some reason it is showing Angry Bird update form an unknowed Apple id. There are no trace of angry bird in the machine and I would like to know how to remove it from the liste of update in the mac app store beside buying it.
