Using GIMP with Mac

I cannot get the the Foreground select tool in Gimp to work. I can select the part of the image I want but then I am asked to press the enter key to accept the selection. Nothing happens.
Am I using the right key (the return key) or is there some other problem?

If your question comes about because you have a single button mouse, it's time to visit your local computer store and get a ''real'' mouse for that MAC. I don't "get" Apple, they sell their hardware for almost twice what a comparable PC would sell for - and then they leave out what is probably the most important time saving control, the right-button.

I installed 5 but now I can't use it with Mac osx - how do I go back to my old version?!

I was prompted to install Firefox 5 on my Mac. Now when I try to open it says I can't use Firefox with osx. How do I go back to using the previous version - has it been written over? My previous version was fine!

Searching the 9.2 doc set turns up a reference. Looks like you are trying to use an option that isn't available in your version of Oracle.

Cant use POP with mac mail from yahoo

everytime i try and set up my POP account from yahoo into my mac mail, it says the server isnt responding. tried it weeks ago and now today. my trial of .macs expiring soon and i need to import my email onto my desktop. anyone know how to make it work???

I'm having the same problem. Have been running Mac Mail for several months using POP with Yahoo without any issue at all. In just the last day though I haven't been receiving any inbound mail, but I can send outbound. I've called Yahoo and they say they don't support Mac Mail. They've tried to help, in fact found one setting at their end that was off, but they don't have the tools to troubleshoot Mac issues very well. I suspect it's a problem at Yahoo because I have two other non-Yahoo accounts that are coming in through Mac Mail just fine. So I'm going to call them back and see if they can find anything else.

Use iPod with Mac AND PC?

Hello all!
I use an iMac G5 at work and a PC (running Widows XP) at home. I plug my iPod in on both computers and everything seems to work just fine. Not too long ago, when I plugged my iPod in at work (Mac) I get the 'there's an update for your iPod' message. I might be paranoid, but I'm worried that if I start installing Mac updates, my iPod won't work on my PC. Am I just being crazy? I would say that my PC is 'home' for my iPod since I load most of my music, video, and photos from that computer. I'd be really bummed if anything went haywire & had a hard time using it with my PC.
So - if that was a crazy notion I had......is there anything else I need to consider using my iPod with a Mac and a PC??

Using iSight with Mac Messenger ?

I was just wondering if anyone knew a way to use the iSight with Mac Messenger, and, or view someone else's webcam? I've been told by friends that it's not possible but I just wanted to check here incase there is some 'backalley' way to do so.

Thanks, but i was just really looking if it was possible with Mac Messenger. I've tried aMSN in the past and it gave me a lot of problems so i don't want to go down that route again.

OK, the latest SVNKit only support Subversion 1.6.5 (http://svnkit.com/documentation.html), so Subclipse 1.6 is the latest version supported.
Rats. I'll have to use a separate svn client just to work with Subversion 1.7 repositories.

Using Nano with Mac and PC - can I?

I have an eMac and a Nano. Initially, I am using it with my Mac, but I will soon be using it in the office, which has a PC. Is it possible to use the same nano with iTunes on a PC, that I am currently using on my Mac.
If I cannot use on both, can I at the very least use the PC to charge the nano when I am away from my Mac, which could be a week at a time...or do I need to get a wall adaptor.
Sorry for the very basic questions, I have searched t he board but did not find the answer - so any help would bbe most appreciated!

If your iPod is formatted for OS X there is no way to convert the file system to Windows format (FAT32) without a complete format. All the data on the iPod (music, files, contacts, ect.) will be lost. But it is OK! You have all that stuff on your eMac. After you have formatted it with the newest iPod Updater for Windows, found at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download , you can go home an put all your music back on.
Another good thing to remember is that whenever an update is available for the iPod you must update it on a Windows PC. For example, if I tried to updated my Windows formatted iPod on my Mac so that I could, for example, use the new Podcasting feature, the computer will try to format the iPod to the OS X file system. All iPod updates from now on must be made on a Windows PC. Hope this helps.

Using itunes with mac book pro and mac mini

I have had a Mac book pro with all my music on external hard drive, and running to my through my network of 1 apple TV, 2 airport expresses. Working great.
Now I have got an old Mac Mini and hooked up the external hard drive that has all my music on it and hook it up to my network. I want to use the Mac Mini as a Music Server. The music plays on the mac mini not the Apple TV or the airport expresses.
I think it's something small but any help whould be great.

Dreamweaver CS6 is not retina ready. Dreamweaver CS6 Cloud I believe was patched at 12.1 for this. However, I do not believe Adobe sees this as a patch but rather as a new feature thus if you are using Dreamweaver CS6 you will not get this release until Dreamweaver CS6.5 or CS7.

Using AExpress with mac and PC at the same time?!

I spent all day with this issue, not resolved some...but
I am getting a blinking amber light after reseting my airport express, but yet it is the only way it connects my mac and my pc together on the device at the same time, without shutting one out,
How can I get them to share the base station and have the normal green light? if they have a green light it disconnects my pc wirless connection. Are there shared settings somewhere?

well, after 12 hours and trials I solved it myself, but I am considering more people have this issue, so I will share.
(make sure any adapter you buy is 802.11g/n/b compatible)
I had a Belkin F5D9050 USB card,
so install the latest updated driver for it, not the one with the cd!!!

depending on your OS, pick one...but install driver first, then connect the usb card.
Then install the latest Airport Utility (*NOTE: there are alot of old ones that do not work out there!) Only use this one!

If the AE utility doesn't detect your base station, press the reset button (until amber light flashes quickly), and then try re-scan again! do this until it shows up, then the installer will begin, if the amber light keeps blinking you need to reset again, once it works the lights will alternate between green and amber, then stay green.
IF YOU HAVE A MAC HOOKED UP: uninstall your airport base station from the unit for now, you can install it later after you configure your pc! The PC is sensitive and will not share the network, but mac will after.
Once the green light stays on you will be connected to wireless internet. Now you can connect your mac again.
I stumbled through this setup through trial and error, so do not quote me, but it worked for me.
If you have a password for it, write it down, you will need to enter it to connect to your base station again. This is the best way to stay online, and not have others stealing your wireless, or files.
You can share files to your PC and vise versa, just be sure to read up on sharing in Mac Osx.
If all goes well, now your PC and mac can be on the same base station at the same time.
If it works with amber light flashing it does, but is NOT connected right.
The light should be solid green.
TRUST ME, NO ONE HAS GOOD TIPS OUT THERE, AND CHAT SUPPORT DOES NOTHING!

Is there a problem using Flashplayer with Macs?

I have been a Flashplayer user for sometime using a iMac (using Osx version 10.7.5) and have been experiencing a lot of problems recently when trying to visit various sites e.g. BBC News, Tom Tom for upgrades. The website state I need to download the latest version of Flashplayer, which I then do and then once I have downloaded the latest version and click the prompt to revist the site I was on a) it doesn't take me back and b) when I go back to the same site it still saying I need to get the lastest version of FLashplayer! Annoying or what !!

Spotlight search “Flash Player.plugin” (Search “This Mac” and choose "Show All in Finder")
Right click the Plugin and select “Open Enclosing Folder” Trash the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt files.
Go to: [user]/Library/Preferences.
Note: You'll need to hold the "Option" key when you click "Go" from the Finder menu to access the [user] Library:
Without the "Option" key
And WITH
Trash the Macromedia folder there.
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support. Trash the Macromedia folder there.
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Preference Panes (not Preferences, but Preference Panes). Trash the Flash Player.prefpane file there.
Empty the trash.
Download the Flash Player (For Mac OS X) again if necessary.
Quit Safari and go to your downloads folder. Double click the DMG to “mount it”.
It will appear on your desktop and a small window will open.
Double click the installer. If you see a warning, click “Open” to let it run.
Click “I have read and agree… etc.” and click “Install”. Enter your password when asked.
You may see the following: click “Force Close All” if you do, and then click “Retry”.
The installer will run.
Choose your update preference, and click “Done”.
Open Safari again and click Safari>Preferences (Cmd+,)
Go to the Security tab. Make sure “Allow plug-ins” is checked.
That should be a COMPLETE "clean install" for OS 10.7.5.

On iOS 8 (and earlier) - PHOTOS for iOS lets one import EVENTS from the Mac -- but now I am wondering: If PHOTOS for MAC no longer supports (or has) events - then there are no events to import- and in iPhoto, EVENTS are much different than ALBUMS…
And what about FACES and PLACES in the new PHOTOS for Mac?
Any comments appreciated.

Only iPhoto 9.6.1 will run on MacOS X 10.10.3.
If you did not yet have updated to that version, it will be difficult, because the update is currently not available at the AppStore.

iPhoto has automatically created Moments and Years to structure the library. You can add albums and smart albums.
Your events will be migrated as albums.
And what about FACES and PLACES in the new PHOTOS for Mac?
You can add Faces, but they are not fully supported in iCloud Photo Library Beta, and don't sync to other Macs.
Photos uses the GPS tags of your photos to create the places for the Moments view, but has no tools to add places manually.

Can I use AE with Mac at home and PC on road.

Currently I use my AE at home to enable wireless printing with my airport extreme base station between my powermac, a mac mini and a windows laptop. The AE is configured using the airport admin utility on my powermac.
So my question is can I take my AE with me when I'm on the road with my win laptop and setup wireless internet in my hotel room. I'm assuming to do this I'd have to change the firmware in the AE to the windows version or am I able to just download the windows airport utility and not have to change firmware?

Yes you could take the AE unit with you, but you would only get wireless internet in your room if the hotel offered broadband through an Ethernet port. You'll find more and more hotels now offer wireless access in their rooms.
As you are wanting to change the functionality of the AE unit while on the road, you will need the Airport configuration software for the OS you will be travelling with. There's nothing as drastic as changing the firmware in the AE unit. You will find that the settings you left in the AE unit while configuring on your PowerMac will be re-configurable with the Windows Airport software. You can install the Windows Airport software on your laptop now and configure the AE unit just as easily as you can from your PowerMac.
