Using Gmail Domain Name Within Apple Mail??

I REALLY need your help. What am I doing wrong?
I want to be able to send mail "From" [email protected] vs [email protected]
I've redirected my [email protected] to my gmail account.
The problem is when I set up Apple Mail with my Gmail information, I can't send "From" [email protected]
I have already changed my "settings" in google & added an account making [email protected] the default. Also the always reply from default address is checked on.
What am I doing wrong or is this even possible?
Thanks

What you are asking for is not possible, as directly as you are trying to do, but you can achieve the same results you seek with the tools you have.
You can easily separate the two email accounts and use them separately on your iPhone. I currently have about 25-30 separate email accounts configured on my iPhone and each one receives its own mail, and sends out its own replies.
The second option I can think of wold be for you to setup the separate account as mentioned above, but to continue to forward the email to your GMail account. When you reply and want the message to come from your domain account, just tap the "From:" line and select your domain's account and send the reply from there. Yeah, it will go out using your hosts server, but it will allow you to send from a different account than received the email.
One more thing that might work for you is to use Google Apps. I help administer a domain for a local group, and they use Google Apps (standard) which is free, and it has their domain essentially hosted by Google. When I receive mail, it comes in to my [email protected], and I send out from my [email protected], even though it uses the GMail servers. I just have to login to the mail server using my full credentials for both sending & receiving. This would require you to use Google for managing your domain, and would still require you to have 2 separate email accounts like the second option above, but they both have their own login accounts on the GMail servers and the Google servers handle all the traffic.
Of these options, the last seems to be the best fit, as you no longer need to forward all your email to a GMail account to access it, it is hosted by Google for you, and you just use their servers for your domain email. If you really want to have a GMail account that does nothing by masquerade as your account at your domain, then the second option seems to be a closer fit, but it requires you to do a little more work to manage the masquerading you desire.

  • Anyone using gmail imap and and Apple Mail?

Can you tell me if, when you use Apple mail for imap gmail access, what address source does it use?
Does the imap pull up the address auto complete of gmail or does it rely on your address book on your mac (or both)?

I'm using Google IMAP with Mail and it uses the addresses I've got in my Mac's Address Book. Can't tell you if you can also use addresses from Gmail but I'd be inclined to think you could. Joe Kissell provides an excellent, if lengthy, explanation of how to get Mail and Gmail to work together here: http://db.tidbits.com/article/10253

  • Design a site, use my domain name, and host it via .mac

It sounds simple, and I thought a search through these forums would yield some easy answers, but no luck, so here goes:
I'm an advanced Photoshop and Final Cut Studio user, running an audio/video/image restoration and transfer business, but I'm a total beginner in the iWeb/.Mac area.
About three years ago, I decided it was time for a web site, so I went to a local company; they designed and still host my site, for which I pay them $30.00 per month; it's a simple site with no ecommerce, and six or seven pages. There is a contact form through which potential customers can email me.
I also have a domain name, for which I pay $15.00 per year to the same company.
My site is OK, but it's the same as it was three years ago; any small changes I have asked the company to make (mostly just text additions/changes) they have done at the rate of $75.00 per hour.
What I want to do is cancel my account with them, design a totally new site using iWeb, start a .mac account, and have the site hosted using my domain name, so that the average customer who sees my newspaper ad can navigate to my new site exactly as they can with the current one. (I only have one email account, through my ISP, which I don't want to change.)
I've got lots of questions, but mostly, what else do I have to do to make this switch besides cancelling my account with my current company? (After an overlap period, of course) What happens with my domain name--who will I pay to keep it? And finally, what simple things am I not thinking of?
Many thanks in advance to anyone with enough patience to read through this, and still find time to provide some assistance.

You can design your site in iWeb and upload it to either .Mac or a commercial server.
You would then provide the domain name registrar with your server ID number or, in the case of .Mac, your .Mac URL and instruct them to point your domain name in that direction.
.Mac is neither intended for, nor the best option, for a business site.
For example the company I host with - Host Excellence - allows you a free domain name registration and up to 6 sites with unlimited web mail and more server space than you are likely to need for about the cost of a .Mac account.
Commercial servers are a lot more reliable than .Mac, have wider bandwidth and usually have good tech support.
You only have to look at the number of problems in this forum concerning .Mac to see that tech support is not readily available from Apple.
I'm not putting down .Mac. I use it myself for various purposes and it is good for its intended use of one clicking publishing of personal websites.

  • Problem with gmail not working with apple mail..

    Hi,
i'm trying to set up a gmail account to the apple mail program on mac (still works in iphone and ipad). after many diffrent approaches,
i think i have all the right setnings. But i still cant connect to the google IMAP, both with or without SSL.
i guess perhaps that the problem could be within the google settings.
does anyone have another solution i could try?

it dosn't work.. have tried that at least 5 times..

  • Using Multiple Domain Names to Access Our Portal

We operate one domain corp.company.com but all internal intranet web servers get  assigned the address inside.ZZZ. The inside.ZZZ is on our IE exclusion list but company.com is not. Adding company.com seems to be a miserable task so we are looking at adding an alias so our users can access the server at the new inside.ZZZ url. We have DNS pointing the URL to the right server and that seems to be working properly.
Something within the application is redirecting the page to gnwhepdev.corp. company .com (our server’s domain address) after the initial login.  Since *.corp. company .com is not in the exclusion list, it is considered an outside address and rerouted.  We are trying to find some way to pass the alias within the  application itself so that we don’t need *.corp. company .com in the exclusion list and we can point users to the inside.ZZZ url.
Our team researched this issue and found documentation that supported the use of multiple domain names to access a Enterprise Portal.  The documentation that we found is below:
    How To…Configure the J2EE Engine Deployment Descriptor (Version 1.00 – July 2004)
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0eb8120-b66c-2910-5795-894f384fc054
Particularly on page 13-15 in the documentation it talks about enabling the portal via multiple domain names (Section 3.7:  Using Multiple Domain Names to Access the Portal).  Also, the documentation says the following:
You must have sever proxy servers, each with a different domain name.  You then activate the filter mechanism and configure it to work with several proxy servers
We have several questions about the possiblities of being able to set this up and whether it would require another server where Web Dispatcher would need to be installed for this configuration to work properly.  Can someone please provide some insight into what needs to be configured and answer the question about the Web Dispatcher?  Also, if Web Dispatcher is required, what steps need to be done to configure?  If Web Dispatcher is not needed, what will we need to do apart from that to set this up for our Enterprise Portal system?

It is but you have to use masking......

  • Using own domain name , duplication of web address HELP !!

    Hi all,
Although this is not a big problem it is quite annoying. I am currently building website within Iweb 09. I have managed to set up my own domain name with no problems at all. The only thing is I get a duplication of my website name on the browser here it is :
I would ideally like to just have *http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk*
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this ??
    cheers
    T

One way would be to use standard domain name forwarding (not CNAME) and enable masking. That would put http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk in the URL window of ALL your pages. The downside to that is visitors can only bookmark your first page which may or may not be a problem. My tutorial site, http://toadstutorials.info , is set up that way.

  • Accessing WAN domain name within my LAN

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that Subject was very helpful.
I have a home LAN with several computers, including a laptop that goes with me to work. My desktop hosts a number of services (IMAP, SSH, HTTP, etc). I use dyndns.org to point to my home LAN, and my router uses port forwarding to point those services to the desktop.
When I'm in my LAN, I reach my desktop by using its local IP address (i.e., 192.168....); when I'm outside my LAN, I reach the desktop using the domain name.
Since I use my laptop at home and on the road, I need to do annoying things like change Mail.app's server settings everytime I change location.
Surely there's a better way. Any suggestions?

I didn't catch what OS the desktop system is running, but configuring bind/named is pretty well documented and not a major task. In my opinion, you're just front-loading all the work at one time rather than messing around with changing your mail application settings.
If you decided to go that route later, search for "caching name server" and set that up. Then simply add a zone file for the domain you're looking to override on the local network and you're pretty much done.
I don't know how you retrieve your mail, but if IMAP is an option, you might want to consider using separate mail programs and use IMAP as the method in which you retrieve mail. IMAP assures the clients will be in sync, and you simply configure Mail for one location and another mail client, like Thunderbird or Entourage, for another location. Kludgy, inelegant, but it works because I've used that solution myself. If IMAP isn't available, you can probably get by with POP3 and tell the mail clients to leave the mail on the server. Mail and Thunderbird do a fair job of keeping things sync'd, although IMAP is much more preferable.

  • Error message when publishing to MobilMe using GoDaddy domain name

    Hi all,
I am trying to publish my site from iWeb '09 to MobilMe. I am using a domain name purchased through GoDaddy. When I publish the entire site in iWeb, it seems to publish fine, but when I click to "visit site", I get a page with an error message, "Looking for something on MobileMe?
The account you requested doesn't exist or is currently inactive. Please make sure the URL is spelled and capitalized correctly, and try again.
MobileMe Login | MobileMe Support | Learn more…
I have checked my login info, etc. I have no idea why this isn't working. Any thoughts???
    Thanks so much - Chris

That Vist button has been a problem for others also. Why, I don't know. Try using the File ➙ Visit Published Site menu option. That has worked for me when the Visit button wouldn't.
If that menu option works you can try the following to see if you can get the Visit button to work:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Cant connect using another domain name

Hi. iChat is up and running, we're able to connect to it using user@servername, but when we try to use another domain name it doesnt work (dns is pointed to that server, if i ping it it does give the correct ip), i know the dns is working because if i check the server log it does say i connected to it, but 1 sec. after it disconnects any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You must ensure that you list the other domains in the Host Domains section of the Settings tab Server Admin application. Assuming you have done that and you still have problem, it will help us help you if you post the entries you have in the log file and the domains and one of the usernames you are trying to use.

  • Using a domain name with the mac site

If I use a domain name on Site #2, does that mean that Site #1 will automatically have the same domain name?
I already have a Site #1 up and running. Now I purchased a new domain name that I would like to use only for site# 2. I was worried about going in with any edits to Site #1 just in case it would go to the new domain name instead of where it is right now.
    Any light on that subject?

If you have 2 websites in the same domain folder the uppermost site or the site that you most recently published will be linked to your domain name. If you don't want it to be then you need to re-publish with the site that you want to be linked to your domain name is uppermost. You can move the sites around by dropping and dragging.
The easiest thing to do is to separate the sites so that you have site 1 in 1 folder and site 2 in another. Following this, the site that you publish first will be linked to your domain name. If it is not this site that you want then just publish the other site.
How do you have the first site set up? Is it using CNAME or web forwarding? Have you entered your personal domain name into your .Mac account?
If you have one .Mac account and two websites and two personal domain names, then you can use CNAME for one site and web forwarding with or without masking for the other site. You can only enter one domain name into one .Mac account.

  • Internal hyperlinks within Apple Mail

Does anyone know how to create internal hyperlinks within Apple Mail?
For instance, I want to put something like "contents" at the start of an email where I can click on the title
    Content 1
    Content 2
    Content 3
to bring me to the paragraphs below
    Content 1
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Content 2
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Content 3
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Thanks! Much appreciated.

I think you would probably have to create an HTML page with anchors and then "share" that via e-mail. While HTML does support this, and Apple Mail supports HTML e-mail, such a thing was never intended. Modern e-mail is big hack-job. It is unlikely that such an e-mail message would really work in practice the way you expect.

  • Using Gmail Aliases with iOS 8 Mail App

I'm wondering if there is any way to use gmail aliases with the default mail app. I've already tried the methods listed on these two sites:
    http://www.nathanpjones.com/wp/2014/01/using-gmail-aliases-in-ios-7/
    http://tbb.co/sending-from-a-gmail-alias-on-ios-8/
I can already send from a few different aliases with the default mail app on Mac. I have two step authentication setup on on my gmail account so I've these methods with both my normal password and app specific passwords generated by Google. Is there something that I'm missing?

Seems to work properly for me. Are we looking at the same place? to instruct it to Delete instead of Archive:
In Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (select account) > Account (select your e-mail address) > Advanced.
Mailbox Behavior for Deleted Mailbox: Trash.
        then
Move Discarded Messages Into: Deleted Mailbox.
It wasn't this way by default.  Move Discarded was Archive, and it gave the results you described.  Changing that to Deleted works for me.
I set the Swipe left-to-right to Archive.  So now one swipe will Archive, the other will Delete.
oooh... p.s.... this seems to work as well:

ok well lets say i want to use a domain name such as
www.mywebste.com. if i forward it then all u have ot
do is type in www.mywebsite.com and it will bing u to
    web.mac.com/whatever?
    Yes.
If i do it this way will i
still be able to use all of the iwebs fatures such as
    blog comment, hit counter...?
I think so, but since I don't do this I don't know for sure.
also if i do it this way will i have to pay for the
    .mac subscription too?
Yes, if you keep your site physically on .Mac you have to pay for it.
can you send me a website where i can find lots of
effects i can use in my iweb page because the effects
    on iweb are very limited.
The best thing for you to do is search this forum using the term for the effect you are interested in.
If you find iWeb too limited and don't find workarounds in this Forum for adding the effects you want, you can consider using another app. Here is one list:

  • New issue breaking Gmail when using custom domain name

I have been using my own domain name in conjunction with Gmail since the launch of Gmail.  The use case is fairly straightforward -- I have my own domain name and have created an email address alias on this domain ("custom email address') that forwards email to my Gmail account.  I have configured Gmail to override the From field with this custom email address.  With this configuration, Gmail is happy.
On my Z10, I had created a Gmail email integration account via the Advanced Settings with my custom email address in the "email address" field and my gmail email address as the username with the appropriate gmail server settings.  When I continue from the advanced screen, I was taken to the Google account login screen where I grant permissions for my BlackBerry to access my account.  On this screen, I logged in using my gmail email address.  This worked fine and I received email without incident on my Z10 since I bought it on the Feb launch date ... until this past weekend.  My Z10 then suddenly reported that my settings had changed and nothing I could do could convince it to accept the above settings as correct.
If you have a similar configuration and have noticed recent issues, there is a solution.  This new "issue" appears to be that when you log into the Google permissions screen during the BB10 email account configuration process (i.e. the Google login page after you enter all the server settings in Advanced section of BB email account setup), you are no longer allowed to enter a username that differs with the custom email address you are setting up.  It won't ever tell you that this is the problem.  You just get a vague email settings error at the end of the process and you can't get your mail.  It is possible that Google is the one who introduced this glitch, since the solution is within your Google account configuration, not BlackBerry.  Simply put, you must associate your custom email address with your gmail account login within Google.
To do this, log in to Gmail using your usual gmail address.  Click on your Gmail address in the top right corner, select the "Account" link in the drop down.  Click the "Edit" link to the right of the Email heading.  At the bottom of this edit page add your custom email address in the field next to the label "Add a new alternate address".  After you add it, you will need to verify this address via an email that will be in your Gmail account.  I probably should have done this long ago, but never had the need to until now.
Now you can get BB email working again.  Go back to the BB10 account settings page for your Gmail account.  This time when are kicked over to the Google login page to grant permissions to your BlackBerry to access your account, use your custom email address as your Google username and use your usual Gmail password.

    Amazing, Thanks !
