In Gmail i am using two different outgoing adresses the first one is [email protected] and the other one is my work adres i pay for the usage off gmail because i want everything from one account or application.
When i use the email app in yosemite and let it communicate with the gmail servers everything works but i cannot select from which adress i want to send an email like xxx@kpnmail or my work email.
So i have read almost everything on the net but i cannot find what im looking for so maybe that you guys can help me out to sorten this out and then i am an very happy person.
if you speak/write dutch thats perfect but english may also

Hi Vincent 76,
If you are not seeing the options I mentioned above, check the settings that you have in the Mail Preferences for each email account:
The image below is from the Help Menu within the Mail application.  It shows the button to the right of the Send button that you can click on to add fields like Reply To, CC or BCC.  The From field is shown in this diagram, so I'm not sure why you are not seeing it.
Write and send messages
When you want to write or reply to a message, Mail opens a new window where you can add recipients, text, photos, and more, before sending your message.
Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences

Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences
Change Mail settings
Use Mail Preferences to set or change options for the email accounts you use in Mail, and for working with messages and mailboxes. Choose Mail > Preferences, then click a preference pane to view options:
General: Change settings that range from how often to get messages, to the kinds of messages to include when searching for messages in Mail.
Accounts: Add, delete, and disable your email accounts in Mail. Use the Mailbox Behaviors pane to control how draft, sent, junk, and deleted (or “trash”) messages are stored. The Advanced pane includes options for messages, attachments, and more.
Junk Mail: Enable the junk mail filter and change settings to improve it.
Fonts & Colors: Select the fonts and font sizes used to display messages.
Viewing: Change settings to control how messages are shown in the Mail window.
Composing: Change settings for spell checking, and for addressing and replaying to messages.
Signatures: Create signatures and have them automatically appended to all of your messages, or use them in only some messages.
Rules: Create rules to do things like have messages from a certain person automatically moved to a mailbox, or highlight messages about a birthday party.
To learn about the options in a pane, click the Help button at the bottom of the pane.

Judy

  • Using Gmail over Mail.app

    Hi.
I was wondering if there were any mac users using Gmail.
I tried to sync (this has been a problem with Tiger Mail as well) and all the mails are downloaded from Gmail server.
However, similar messages (i.e. those that the recipient replied) were not grouped together as the original, just like what Gmail does when u access it online.
Would there be some function of mail that can do that so it makes it more compact like accessing Gmail online?
Also, deleting the messages from Mail.app would not delete the messages in the Gmail account right? In that case, if i accessed my Gmail somewhere else, i would be reading "unread" or "undeleted" messages that were actually "read" or "deleted" on my mac at home.
i hope im making sense here and some help can be sought.thank you. enjoy leoparD!

    Jeffrey,
Gmail has a setting to delete mail from the gmail inbox after downloading to the mac.
Login to Gmail on the web
    Go to settings
    Go to forwarding and pop/imap
Under item 2. When messages are accessed with POP, choose delete gmail's copy.
    That works for me.

  • Using Gmail with Mail.app and Notes

I have the preference set to store notes on Gmail's server. If I create a note on my Mac it just looks like a funny message through Gmail with the subject and the body the same and the sender as (Unknown Sender) which is no big deal but I would like to be able to create notes with Gmail because I have a G1 and use it constantly.
Is there a way to create a note with Gmail so that it shows up like a note in Mail.app?

Open the Print & Scan preference pane in System Preferences and delete the print queue, then add it back. If there's no change, reset the printing system.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • Very very slow to download gmail in mail APP iPad

As I wrote in the title, in the last days, from when I updated iOS 7.04, I've some problem with the mail app in iPad 3rd gen.
With the account gmail: it's very very very slow to download the emails.
First of all, I reset the iPad, but nothing.
So, I deleted the gmail account and set up it again... but nothing.
So, what's the problem: Gmail? Mail APP in iOS 7.04? Both? And how can I resolved it?
Thank you very much for yours replay. Best regards.

  • Using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion - issue with inbox syncing across multiple machines

Hi. I am using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion on my iMac, as well as Mail in my iPad and iPhone. Generally speaking Mail seems to sync well across the three machines. However for some reason when I view an email in my inbox on either my iPhone or my iPad, the inbox on my iMac does not reflect the fact the email has been read: ie, while the email is marked as having been 'read' across both my iPad and iPhone, it remains 'unread' on my iMac. It is really frustrating and stuffs up the process managing the flow of emails. Is anyone able to help me please? Thanks so much.
    Best

Hi SB. Thanks for your advice. I checked and I am using the recommended settings. I'm still not sure how to fix this. It's very irritating! I will read an email on my ipad, then hit my imac and see that the email is sitting unread in my Mail inbox.

Thanks for your response and yes I understand what you are saying. Maybe you could explain why "email users" hate HTML email with a passion.
These tend to be technical users who have a more purist attitude about email. They prefer that email be text-only, and consider HTML formatting to be superfluous for most messages. And I do think they have a point. If you have 100 plain-text emails and 100 HTML emails, you will notice that the HTML emails take up noticeably more disk space. And if the HTML email senders have loaded down their default emails with background images, signatures with corporate logos and winmail.dat attachments and all manner of embedded ornamentation, and (I never even thought people went this far) animations, then a simple email reply like "Thanks! I'll see you this evening," ends up carrying an tremendous additional amount of file size and network bandwidth overhead just to carry those six words. It not only means more disk space consumed, but it ripples all through the system: More space is required for backing up and archiving your emails, plus more mail server space and network bandwidth are consumed per message. Purists see this as an incredible waste of resources.
The message body of at text email can simply be "Thanks! I'll see you this evening."
The HTML version, at a bare minimum, must be
    {html}
    {p}"Thanks! I'll see you this evening."{/p}
    {/html}
(replaced angle brackets with curly brackets so Apple Forums won't try and format it)
Already that's almost double the amount of characters required to send the message, just to format it in HTML. And that's if no fonts, styles, graphics, or media have been applied. If they are, the number of actual characters sent balloons dramatically.
I'm in the middle. I don't hate HTML email, I'll even turn it on when I think formatting will help my message. But I like to use disk space efficiently, so I've set plain text as my default for sending messages.

  • Using built in mail app- my gmail will send but won't recieve. ?

Already removed and re-add acct? And synced, date is correct.. Any ideas

Any ideas, guys?  I had a similar issue on iOS 6 but the move to iOS 7 fixed it.
Yesterday, I moved a whole bunch of e-mails from my Gmail archive (on the web interface) to my inbox.  Now my Mail app on iPhone is missing a whole chunk of my e-mails....not sure how to fix this!
Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thanks.
EDIT: I should add, when I cycle to the All Mail folder, I can see everything as normal...but the inbox in the Mail app is missing all e-mails from before yesterday evening, choosing to show only those that are from months ago (and even then, they're just ones I've sent, all the received ones are missing).

  • GMAIL IMAP: Mail app on iPhone, random old emails showing as new in inbox.

    Hi all,
I've tried to get an answer to this elsewhere, hopefully someone here can shed some light on my problem.
I just switched both my GMAIL accounts from POP to IMAP: using the web interface, everything's fine; using the Mail app on my desktop, everything's fine; however, using the Mail app on my iPhone, one of the accounts is fine, but the other account only show a random smattering of email from between 2005 and 2007 as the "newest" emails. Now, new emails come in fine and dandy but as soon as there are fewer than 25, WHAM!, these random group starts showing up in the inbox. It's annoying as all get out. I've tried deleting the account from my iPhone and setting it up from scratch, to no avail. If both accounts were acting this way I'd chalk it up to either an error on my end, or some tick between GMAIL and my phone but these seem not to be the case. So, how about it? Any insight out there?
    thanks,
    christian

Yes that is normal. The sync between your gmail inbox and the all mail folder in gmail is not immediate, so you will have an emal that will appear as unread in the all mail folder, yet you did read it already in the gmail inbox. There is no way around this nagging issue at present.
I cannot comment on the other point you raise as uses/behavior for sharing one's computer vary greatly. If you have privacy issues and still share your computer with others, you may want to create a guest user profile and have others use this guest user profile when using your computer. That way they will be able to use a browser, or create a document and so on and so forth, but will be prevented from seeing the data/files/folders and applications - the way you have set them up - you see when you are logged in.
To create a guest account go to system preferences>accounts
    hope this helps

  • Gmail making Mail app run slowly!

I have been teaching my fiancé how to use his iBook G4 (for more than just writing school papers.) He has a Gmail account that I have set up to work with the Mail app on OSX Panther. He now has a bad opinion of Mail because the app is really really slow to load up his new messages, (lots of that spinning wheel action!) and it makes his computer respond slowly to everything. Sometimes we have to force quit the application just to make the computer usable again.
I have set up his computer to my .Mac email and my other POP mail server, and neither of those accounts make Mail behave like that. Anybody have any similar experiences with Gmail? Any suggestions? Should we download Gmail's app instead?
    Thanks in advance!

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.

  • GMail (POP3) & Mail.app

    Hello everyone,
I hope someone might help me understanding the behavior of Mail.app while working with GMail in POP3.
I switched yesterday from Thunderbird, wishing to give Mail.app a try.
I had no problems in the setup, but what is really annoying is the layout Mail.app gives me.
I have the "Inbox" and "Sent" folders (I hope I'm translating properly, since I do not use MacOS with the English interface), with the "RSS" menu on its bottom. After the RSS item, there is one more, called "GMAIL", which contains every folder of my GMail account (All Mail, Drafts, Sent Mail, Spam, Starred, Trash).
What's shocking to me is that Mail.app downloaded *every message* since my GMail account is active (2005!), for every folder. Moreover, whenever I receive a new mail it appears both in the "Inbox" at the top of the column on the left in Mail.app, and in the "GMAIL" section. Reading the mail from the "Inbox" section does not mark the mail as read in the "GMAIL" one.
So here there are my questions:
    1. What happens if I delete the "GMAIL" section of the left column? Will my mails be deleted also from the GMail account or just from Mail.app?
    2. How do I prevent Mail.app from downloading every message my GMail account stores since its opening?
    3. How do I get rid of the "duplicate inbox" behavior?
Thanks in advance for all of your help,
    Maurizio

Yes, you were right, the GMail account was configured as IMAP.
I mistakenly wrote "POP3" in the subject because I took for granted that the account would have been set as POP3 by default.
Unfortunately for me, I still can't understand how may I configure Mail.app for using POP3 with GMail.
Would you mind helping me through this, please?
sure thing. this actually took me a LONG time to figure out.
first you'll need to delete your gmail imap account from amil preferences->accounts then click on + there.
this will start Mail setup wizard and enter your gmail email and pasword press option. the "create" button will change "continue". click on it and on the next screen you can choose to set it up as POP.

When you delete a POP account in Mail it deletes the messages in the Inbox. These should download again as All Mail. BTW, when you select Archive it will move messages out of the Inbox to the All Mail folder.
I suggest you start with a new Mail profile. This will not include any previous emails and accounts. We can discuss importing those later.
    Quit Mail
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
Scroll to Containers.  Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop
Rename Mail folder to MailXX (you can revert if needed)
Go to Preferences. If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log in
    Open Mail
Before you add your Gmail account, I suggest you do a bit of clean up in your browser first.
    See suggestions here.
    Use Gmail with Mavericks Mail
    http://www.needhelp4mac.com/2013/12/use-gmail-with-mavericks-mail/
It will take some time to download 19 GB. Note: some users have selected not to sync the All Mail folder. You might want to disable sync at first until you get your folders and new Inbox downloaded. After adding All Mail, I would let it sync overnight.

  • IMAP + Gmail: will mail.app search function work for 100% of messages?

This feels like a dumb question, but haven't found any discussion of this issue on the forum.
I'm considering switching some accounts including Gmail to IMAP. I'm accustomed to having all mail stored locally on mail.app - and frequently search that whole universe (we use mail as an info archive).
The dumb question is what happens to an account that is switched from POP to IMAP? Specifically, when there is no internet connection (often for us, sailing around the world on our yacht).
    Thanks in advance!

Clarification: I forgot to say that I have configured my Gmail IMAP test account in Advanced to "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing".
But it isn't clear whether this applies to every msg on the server, or just to new mail sent/received since the IMAP connection was established.
I am afraid to convert one of our big primary addresses to IMAP until I'm sure that it will work as we require. Again, it isn't clear what happens to say a Gmail account when you switch it from POP to IMAP then back to POP again. What happened to the local copies of the traffic during the IMAP period.
Lastly, can an IMAP account be accessed via POP without messing anything up?

  • Can someone explain Gmail in Mail app?

I've got my Gmail email account hooked up with the Mail app on my iMac. I don't understand it at all.
In my inbox I have both my iCloud and Gmail inboxes. There is an email I recieved today that has 4 attached pdfs. If I select that email in the inbox the attachments don't show. The text is there and there is a link to ups tracking, but no attachments.
But then down the sidebar in my email app there is a section for Gmail. If I go to that part of my mail app and select the All Mail icon and then select the same email I see the PDFs.
    So the first question is:
Why does the same email look different in the different locations?
    The second question is:
Why are there two Gmails in my Mail app!?!
Also the third question is something I posted a while ago (but never got an answer to):
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18768216#18768216

Anybody? Does anybody use Mail.app to read Gmail?
