Using Gmail in the Cloud

I've got an iMac, an iPhone and a emailadress like @gmail.com. Now I want to make use of iCloud. What do I have to do to make it alle syncing like it should do. I really want to use only @gmail.com. Maybe the question is better like this: Is there a simple way to make use of iCloud, still using my good old gmailaccount?

iCloud handles only its own email. You could set up forwarding from your Gmail account to iCloud so that you would be able to read the messages there, but there is no point in doing this as you can just as well access Gmail in your Mail application. Also you can't send using iCloud's outgoing server with anything other than your iCloud address as the 'From' address.
Is the email address you give your actual address? I understand it may be just an example but if it's a real address it's a really bad idea to post it as it's an invitation to spam. To be on the safe side I've asked the Hosts to remove it. Your message is quite clear without it.

Google them to confirm the settings that you need for the outgoing server, then check the setting you entered on the pad. Pay real close attention to the outgoing server name, and port. You may need to change in on the pad.

Using iTunes in the Cloud

I was wondering if I can use iTunes in the Cloud just for offsite storage of my music? I want to keep the files on all of my devices and only use iCloud to store the originals. Can this be done? Thanks.

Hi,
No. Itunes in the cloud is not a back up service. This stores your iTunes purchase, not the rest of your music. iTunes Match is a different product, again it is not per se a back up service.

What match does is scans your library and matches your music with a version that is available in the iTunes Store. If it is not matched and is eligible, it will be uploaded. You will now have access to those tracks on other devices when you are signed into match.
Nothing happens physically to the tracks on your computer unless you opt to upgrade or delete them. Nothing beats a proper back up on an external HD

Google Mail recently implemented additional security measures "for your protection" of course. The manifestation of that may be the requirement to create a unique, "application-specific" password for each one of the various Google services you may use. That requirement probably includes Google Mail. So if the above Apple Support document doesn't resolve the problem, research Google's application-specific password requirements, and how to configure Mail to use it.
I asked the Hosts to edit or obscure the email address in your post.

Using Elements 11 with a MAC. I do not use Mail, but rather use GMAIL. I cannot find how to share photos from the Organizer with MAC / GMAIL. Only with MAIL. From Preferences - Sharing the only option is MAIL. Anyway to avoid this?

Proceed with caution. This does work for me. Road tested.
1. Protecting the Styles that you created in the Titler of Premiere Elements 11 Windows 7 64 bit.
When you "Save A Style" that you created in the Titler, it is saved to the Styles Folder in the default location of

Documents
Adobe
Premiere Elements

Styles
in the Styles Folder you are not going to see the individual Styles that you created. They will be included as an entire set in a file named "workingset.prsl". Save this specifically named "workingset.prsl" before the program uninstall, and, AFTER the program reinstall, place it in this Styles Folder as that folder's "workingset.prsl" file.
2. Protecting user custom export presets created in Publish+Share/Computer/
When you create these export presets, they are stored in the path

what to save at this point is determined by the type(s) you have created...check what is in the Presets Folder and then decide
a. Save the whole Presets Folder
b. Save just the whole PC Folder
These should be .epr files that you are protecting.
And, it goes without saying, whatever you replace from the cited locations before uninstall, be sure to replace them to the exact location.
There are other types of files that could be protected, but you seem to want information specific to protecting Styles and Export Setting Presets. So, I am compiling with that request.
I do not work for Adobe and am not affiliated with it in any way. The above are my observations, been road tested, and they work for me.
Do mini test runs if you have any doubts. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything that I have written.

Before the cloud I could "text" my son's iphone from my laptop and get the response back to my lap top......now I can "text" him from my lap top and the response only goes to my phone! What happened??? and How can I fix it?

If you go to this support article, it indicates that iCloud does in fact support Office and PDF. See below. Also, I have enabled iCloud documents in both my Mac and my iPad, but I don't see any way to actually share the documents - do you have to buy iWork for that? I don't get it. Normally Apple software is so intuitive and easy to use but not here. All I need is Dropbox-like capability.

I have a mac without a lot of disc space left and everytime I download InDesign, my disc space disapears. Is it possible to use InDesign in a cloud based app without having to download it? Any help would be much appreciated!

The whole Creative Cloud nomenclature is a marketing thing. InDesign (as well as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat) continue to be installed and executed on your own computer! The only cloud aspect of this is that you download from a server and there is a built-in feature in InDesign 9.1 to syncronize files on an Adobe server-based cloud directory.

While downloading Mountain Lion I was asked to connect my mail account (gmail) to the cloud. I did so. Once I entered mail after Mtn Lion installed all sub-mail boxes I had set up disappeared. How can I get them back.

You may have to open Mail, go to the upper left corner of the screen and click on the word Mail, open Preferences, click on Accounts, and make sure your Gmail account is still fully set up properly with all proper account and incoming and outgoing Mail Servers properly completed. When you added iCloud capability it may have upset the account settings for Gmail.

How to sync playlists if using iTunes in the cloud?

I don't fully understand this cloud thing...
I have successfully linked my iphone 4 to the cloud and downloaded a bunch of new purchases.
Now...I want to manually sync some playlists and the music they contain with my phone.
iTunes seems to want to erase all the cloud-downloaded songs and replace them with what I'm manually syncing.
Is there a way to keep the cloud-synced songs and add some others manually???

Yes, your subscription provides for having two working installations. You should only have to download and install that Cloud manager, sign in, then install the applications thru the manager... pretty much the same thing you did with the first machine.

Using Photoshop in the Cloud (monthly Subscription)

i already bought Photoshop (not Extended) in a monthly Cloud subscription. Everytime i open Photoshop iam asked if i like to make a monthly subscription of PSD Extended. Why? How can i switch that off...because i dont want to!

Did you have the software activated, then it deactivated itself?
If so, did you try reactivating it with your serial number?
I'm just curious. There have been several other recent reports of the same thing happening.

Using GMail as the mail app doesn't work

I have Firefox 11.0, OS X 10.7.3 Lion. In Firefox, I go to Preferences / Applications, and set the default MailTo app handler as GMail. I restarted Firefox, when I click on a mailto link nothing happens (just the click highlight). I installed Google Notifier, and when I launch the Mail app, I made sure the default mail program is Google Notifier. Still doesn't work.

Interestingly enough, clicking a hyperlink from Safari works great - launches Firefox tab with a new message composed.

Do I have to have iOS iWork to be able to use Documents in the Cloud?

I recently got an email from apple about iWork.com Beta being discontinued soon. They said I should use iCloud.
I do have an iPhone with an iCloud account but I don't have the iWork on my iOS device. Does this mean I can't just use iCloud to sync my documents from my Mac to my iCloud account unless I buy the iOS apps?
If so then are Apple changing this so I can use it like I do with iWork.com Beta?

I subscribe to the Cloud for Premiere CC only to find out it does not allow me to download the older version of CS4. I am still using Windows 32 bits. Anyway i can get the serial for the CS4 or the Cloud subscription is not valid for CS4 ??

You may use CS6 via the Cloud... or buy CS6 directly without the Cloud Creative Suite 6
CS4 is SO old that it is no longer sold
